The next morning, Bob woke up feeling much more refreshed than he had the previous day. He looked around for Scooter, but the carrot was nowhere to be seen. The fire was still going, however, and Bob was grateful that he hadn't been left to freeze. Well, he said to himself, nowhere to go but out. Leaving the cave, he saw some prints in the snow and followed them. After walking for a few minutes, he heard grunts and what sounded like wood being hit. Suddenly the tree right in front of him started to sway, and the next second it fell right towards him! He immediately dove out of the way with a yell and landed face-first in the snow. "Ah, sorry son, I didn't realize you were there" came the Scottish carrot's voice from behind him.
"Cng yhh hephg mhmg ummggh?" Bob muttered from the ground. Scooter picked him up and wiped the snow off his face. "What was that again?" Scooter asked, "my hearing hasn't been the same since I was a lad."
"I said 'can you help me up?'" Bob replied.
"What are you asking that for, I just did!" Scooter said.
"I know that, just- oh, never mind" Bob exasperatingly replied.
"Anyhoo, if we want to find your friend, better do it while there's still daylight; night comes sooner than you'd think" Scooter said.
"Oh, I'm sure he's long gone by now" Bob sighed. "We didn't exactly have the happiest goodbye."
"Come on, don't look at it like that, you don't know what he's thinking now. Maybe he's in danger, or even trying to find you" Scooter persuaded.
"Well, I guess going is the best option. Logically, that is" Bob relented.
"That's the spirit! Now let's get a move on, this tree will still be here when I get back" Scooter said, while starting the march towards where he had found Bob earlier.
Bob glumly followed, still not sure whether Larry would even want to see him again.
Meanwhile, Larry was unconscious. In a cave. Stuck to the ice. Upside down. He woke up. "Hey Jimmy, where'd you put my hairbrush?" he mumbled. Getting his bearings, he woke up with a start. "Y'know, something about this situation feels familiar" he pointed out. A sudden roar sounded from deeper in the cave. "Yup, the author's definitely running out of ideas" Larry said. "Oh well, might as well see where it goes while I'm hanging around." Footsteps rumbled from the same area, the sound bouncing off the walls of the cave. Icicles fell from the ceiling, shattering on the ground. A huge body of brown fur appeared, growling. "Ah, a bear" Larry helpfully identified. "Maybe it just wants to be friends..."
In the meantime, our other friends had found the cave where Bob and Larry had spent the night. "Well, thank you for coming with me," Bob said to Scooter, "but I think I can find him myself from now on".
"Hold on just a second there, laddie" Scooter interjected. "You said you came from this way, right? Well then…" They both looked at a set of larger tracks leading in the opposite direction, fresh in the snow. "Where do those go?"
