A dark void.
That's all this place is.
There existed nothing but darkness itself. Except for the one being who called this void home.
He was darkness incarnate, the very definition of it. And he seemed to be looking into a screen that had manifested out of nothing. The being watched the screen for a few seconds then sighed. "It truly seems like that, in every reality, the boy suffers from his lack of power." The voice of the being was that of a young man's albeit deeper than most.
The being flicked a shadow appendage and the surroundings shifted. The darkness was now tinged with a hint of purple as the being now faced another shadowy presence.
"Satella, I've come to bargain."
The being spoke, to which the Witch of Envy gazed at him with mistrust.
There was a pause, as the darkness that made up the being parted around where his face would be. The being was smiling and the Witch of Envy knew that, whatever transpired here-
-it will be something that would change the course of this reality's history permanently.
Natsuki Subaru looked around him in amazement as he walked through the streets filled with demi-humans and humans alike, each going about their day with varying emotions.
"I really did get isekai'd, this was really unexpected but definitely not unwelcome." Subaru muttered to himself as he stopped in front of a stand selling apples. "Hey kid, want an appa?" The green haired, muscular man with a scar on his face asked him as he held one up to the Japanese teenager.
Appa? Is that what they call them here? Anyway it looks like I know the language, but what about…?
Subaru took out his wallet and took out some yen and showed them to the shopkeeper. The man glanced at them before frowning and saying "Are you some sort of traveller? That currency is useless here, that means you're flat broke aren't you? Then move it kid I don't deal with broke customers."
Subaru speed walked away, albeit put off by the shopkeeper's attitude. "Man he didn't need to yell at me like that…" Subaru sighed.
A series of unfortunate events soon unfolded, some of which included Subaru not being able to read and thus walking into the woman's toilet and getting slapped in the face and even falling off a bridge into a river below.
Now he sat in an alleyway, drying his jacket on a crate nearby as he took stock of his belongings.
"Man my equipment is way too crappy, where's my isekai protagonist abilities?! At least give me Excalibur!" Subaru screamed out to no one in particular. He had his eyes closed but he felt something was…off.
Opening his eyes he found shadows had engulfed the alleyway and a humanoid figure made out of the stuff was standing in front of him.
Just looking at him terrified Subaru, as he could feel an aura of intense raw power, and madness. This being was not human, no, it wasn't supposed to exist even. It violated every single law of this world just by existing.
"Natsuki Subaru, it's an honor to meet you." The figure said in a somewhat friendly voice. Subaru nervously chuckled. "I don't know who you are but, uh thanks?" The shadowy appendage that represented the figure's hand went toward it's forehead and Subaru heard an audible slap. The being just facepalmed. It was something so human-like that Subaru felt confused. Just what was this…thing? Person?
"Ah sorry sorry, I should've introduced myself first. You may call me Innominate. I'm going to keep this as short and straight to the point as possible as Od Laguna seems to be trying to kill me, and Envy doesn't really like me being here either." There was a chuckle at the end as Innominate finished. "Natsuki Subaru, the path you're going to walk is full of endless suffering, no matter what reality I checked, that was the only constant that you had going for you. And frankly, I don't really like it either so, with the permission of Envy herself, I'm here to grant you power."
Subaru took this all in, confusion evident on his face. Endless suffering? Different realities? Envy? He had no clue what Innominate was saying but regardless, it seemed like that he really needed this power.
"Ultimately, the choice is up to you. You can repeat the same song and dance as before, or actually change the fate that was set in stone." Innominate paused then continued with a more solemn tone. "I've grown tired of your inability to prevent the tragedies without having to die more than anyone has to in their lifetime."
Subaru's eyes widened. "What do you mean?" Innominate shook his head, "I am unable to tell you due to my deal with Envy. Anyway, we've gone off topic. What will you choose Subaru?"
Subaru adopted a thinking pose. He didn't really understand anything that had happened in this conversation but, if what Innominate had said was true, then his future was going to be filled with a lot of pain and possibly he had somehow come back from death itself…more than once. If this was what he was going to face then of course he was going to need the power to protect himself!
"I don't really understand anything you told me, but if my fate is to suffer endlessly and die more than once…I refuse to let that happen. So please," Subaru bowed, "Give me the power I need to become stronger, to protect myself and the ones I'll meet in the future and come to care about. I don't want to, d-die knowing that I could have done something. I'm a normal human so of course I don't want to feel pain. Truthfully speaking, I've done nothing but waste my life up until now so if this power can change all this, then please, I beg of you to help me."
There was a moment of silence. "Natsuki Subaru, stand up." Subaru stopped bowing and faced the being made of darkness with an expression of determination. "I'm going to bestow upon you a power from the fictional stories from my homeland. And I pray that you will use it wisely."
The figure waved his hand and a bright flash blinded Subaru.
"-least give me Excali-?!" Subaru's exclamation came to an abrupt stop as he felt a previously not there weight on his left wrist. Confused he brought his left hand to inspect what had changed.
He was met with a box like watch that was stuck fast to his skin, with black as its primary color. The faceplate was a glowing pulsing green hourglass. "Huh, is this my equipment? What the hell is this?" Subaru questioned as he prodded the faceplate with curiosity.
Innominate and Satella watched all this happen from within Satella's seal. "He won't remember our conversation as Envy had requested, and I've given him power, like how you requested." Innominate turned towards Satella whom was staring at Subaru with tears of joy in her eyes. "I don't know what you gave him, but if it will prevent my beloved from needless suffering that's all that matters." Satella turned towards him and with a shaky voice said: "I don't sense any malicious intent from you but why did you do this? Why are you helping him?"
Innominate looked towards her and shrugged. "No idea to be honest. I just don't like it when people suffer for no reason, and I hate it when people who actually need power, don't have it while the people who don't deserve power, have power." The incarnation of darkness started to raise his hand, intent on going back to his own void of black. Satella looked at him and mouthed a thank you before he disappeared.
"What's that thing you're playing around with? It looks like it'll sell for a high price."
A voice made Subaru look up from the watch on his wrist. A trio of thugs was looking at him. The one who spoke had pale skin and white clothes, white hair with streaks of pink. "Give it up and maybe we won't hurt you." The smallest one, wearing a cloak and had a brown bowl cut hairstyle spoke. "Or we could just hurt you and take it anyway." What seemed to be the strongest of them said, smashing his fist into his palm.
"Huh, this could be the perfect chance to see what this watch can do." Subaru said as he stood up. "I'll teach you not to underestimate me! Lumps of XP!" Subaru declared before dashing forward at speeds he wasn't supposed to be able to run at and punched the biggest one in the face with all his might sending him flying backwards and then roundhouse kicking the smallest one into the wall cracking it.
"Did I get stronger?! And what the hell was that speedboost? I don't even feel tired at all! My adrenaline is surging! I can do this!" Subaru turned his attention to the last thug and started running at him, intent on finishing this.
That's when the thug pulled out twin knives from behind his back. Subaru instantly prostrated before the thug and started screaming "I'm sorry! It's all my fault don't hurt me!"
The thug grimaced and raised his foot to kick Subaru in the face but was met with a green glowing barrier around Subaru. The barrier electrocuted the thug and he screamed in pain before falling onto his back and crawling away. "What the hell is this!?" The others said as they looked at the barrier around Subaru. "Huh?" Subaru seemed to notice that he wasn't being beaten up yet and looked up to find himself enclosed in a green bubble. He saw the hourglass on the watch glowing brighter than before and put two and two together. Grinning, he stood up and looked at them. "I'd run if I were you, before I figure out what else I can do with this watch."
That seemed to do the trick as all three of them ran away.
"Haaaaah, that was seriously stressful, if this watch hadn't protected me then I would've been beaten up just then." Subaru sat down and sighed. "Now how do I turn off this barrier?" He looked down at the watch and tapped it once. The barrier deactivated. "Huh, is that all this thing can do? Nah that can't be it." Subaru pressed a button near the faceplate and the faceplate popped up. A silhouette appeared, and Subaru was going to press it until…
There was the sound of footsteps and he looked up to be met with what he can only describe as an angel.
A girl with amethyst eyes with blue pupils, silky silver hair and a white dress that accentuated her beauty. Subaru felt his face heat up a little as he stared at her in wonder. He had many figurines of silver haired anime girls back in his room, but seeing one in real life was something else.
The girl looked around the alley before spotting Subaru on the ground. Initially she was going to question him about her insignia but seeing him on the ground, looking almost defenseless, she decided that he didn't have anything to do with the thief or her stolen insignia. "Are you okay?" She asked. It took Subaru an embarrassingly long moment to process what she said. "O-oh, ye-yeah I'm fine." The Japanese teenager stood up from the floor before asking "What's a pretty girl like you doing in an alley like this? It's dangerous."
"Something important was stolen from me, you wouldn't happen to know anything about it? The thief had blonde hair and was reaaally fast." The girl responded, ignoring the comment about Subaru calling her pretty.
"No, I don't recall seeing anyone with hair like that, I was busy trying not to get mugged." Subaru put his hand on his chin as he looked up, trying to remember anything of use.
The girl just looked at him curiously before shaking her head. "If that's the case then I'm wasting time, I have to go." She started out of the alley. "W-wait! I can help you look for it, I may not look like much but I can probably do some cool stuff." Subaru said while he ran back to grab his jacket off of the crate.
"Eh? But I can't repay you." The girl replied.
"I don't need you to repay me, I just want to help." The black haired boy zipped up his jacket before looking at her.
"It's okay Lia, I don't sense any malice from him." A floating cat appeared from behind the girl's hair and Subaru gazed at it in amazement. "Since when can cats fly?"
"I'm no ordinary cat that's for sure."
After a few hours of searching Subaru and the silver haired girl now stood on a platform that overlooked the city that was called Lugunica. "It's honestly surprising you don't know how to read, you don't know where you are. You're in a bigger predicament than I am…" She just realized that she didn't know his name. The floating cat seemed to realize this too. "It looks like we forgot to introduce ourselves."
Subaru, hearing this, pointed his finger to the sky as he took his signature pose and proudly declared. "My name is Natsuki Subaru! I have no clue where I am and I am flat broke, nice to meet ya!"
"When you say it like that, you're really hopeless." The cat said before it too introduced itself. "My name is Puck! I am Lia's contracted spirit and father! Nice to meet you Subaru." Puck stated as he floated next to the girl. Subaru looked at her expectantly. "My name is…Satella."
Puck looked at her, shocked. "Satella huh? That's a pretty name." Subaru smiled. Satella just looked at him in confusion and disbelief. "Anyway let's resume the search again, I think I know where to look now." Subaru started to walk away.
"You made a poor choice Lia." Puck sighed, shaking his head before settling inside her hair again. Satella shook her head as if to clear her thoughts then followed after Subaru.
"This is the place." Subaru said as he and Satella stood in front of an worn down warehouse. After hours of searching and questioning people, they finally got a solid lead that this was where they can find the thief, who they came to know was called Felt, and get Satella's stolen item back.
"Alright Satella, I'm going in. You can have dinner without me." Subaru started climbing up the stairs to the front door when he saw her flinch. "Satella?" He looked at her, concerned. She looked like she was about to say something but ultimately shook her head. "Mmh, it's fine, I'll apologize when you return my insignia to me." She smiled at him. Seeing her smile made him all the more motivated so he took the lantern near the doorway and opened the door, walking in.
The place was pitchblack, and Subaru was glad he had the foresight to grab the lantern before he entered. Stepping inside, the door closed behind him. "Now, did I walk into a snake's nest or some sort of death trap? My experiences in RPG games tell me that this can't be good." Subaru muttered under his breath as he looked around for any signs of people.
That's when he stepped in something. Looking down, he was met with a red liquid. His eyes widened as he slowly brought up the lantern towards the source of all the blood on the floor. A giant of a man sat leaning against a wall, his arm missing and throat slashed, with fresh blood still pumping out of his wounds. He had died recently.
"Ara~, you weren't supposed to see that. Oh well." Subaru couldn't turn around in time. There was a flash as the barrier erected by the watch was put in place but it was instantly broken, shards of solid light falling around him. He was now defenseless. "My, I didn't think you were capable of magic. It's saddening that you don't have any offensive magic we could've danced for a while before I had to kill you~"
Subaru was flung across the room, his body turning over and over multiple times as he skid across the floor before coming to a stop. "Ghk, that hurt…" He muttered before realizing something was very very wrong.
He looked down at this stomach to find blood gushing out at a rapid pace, and started panicking. "Is this, all mine?!" He whispered as he felt something come out of his throat, coating his hand which was pressed against his mouth to stop it. More blood. All he felt was pain.
It hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts.
Subaru choked as more blood came out of his mouth. "Subaru?" He heard the bell like voice of Satella as she opened the door. "No…run away…hurry…" Subaru warned her but his voice was too weak; she didn't hear him.
There was the sound of flesh being severed and Satella fell next to him, her hand was illuminated by the light of the moon.
Subaru crawled slowly towards her before grabbing her hand. "No…matter…what…" He choked.
"I…will…save…you…"
Natsuki Subaru died.
Gasping, he shuddered violently as he fell to the floor, grabbing his stomach. He was alive…?
"Oi kid, you alright?!" The appa vendor asked him. "Y-yeah, I'm f-fine." Subaru replied. What the hell? How am alive?!
He stood up and slowly walked away before finding the alley from before and sitting on a crate. He took a moment to gather his thoughts. "Was that a dream? A vision from the future? No, it can't be. It felt too real, too vivid. Did I, respawn maybe? No that can't be it. It's not nighttime anymore. Maybe I died and went back in time…? Could it be… I returned by death? To a certain checkpoint. I am so confused." Subaru grasped at his hair, trying to make sense of it all.
He knew what had happened before was real, and yet he felt oddly calm. He had to be rational right now. He can't afford to go running back there thinking nothing had happened. After a lot of thinking, he came to the conclusion that.
He died and had somehow wound back time. He didn't know how, he didn't know why. Maybe it was an ability? If so maybe he could use it without dying? He wasn't sure. He didn't want to die again.
"Hey, that's an expensive looking watch. Hand it over." He hadn't realized that the trio of thugs had walked into the alleyway until they were standing right in front of him. From their demeanor, it seemed like they didn't remember when he had beaten them up. This further cemented the whole him-dying-and-returned-to-a-certain-point-in-time theory. He sighed. "You don't wanna do this." The thugs were put off by his calm and collected approach, and if Subaru was being honest, he himself was surprised by it too. If he had looked at the watch he would've seen it glowing a little brighter.
The thugs stared into his sharp looking eyes before the strongest one decided it wasn't worth it. "Come on, he's trouble we shouldn't try anything."
The lean one didn't like that idea so he took out his blades. Subaru sighed before running at him suddenly. The thug tried to stab him only to find himself being electrocuted as the barrier appeared once again. The thug fell to his knees, still twitching. The other two quickly grabbed him and ran away once Subaru sat back down.
"Okay this barrier is really useful but, whoever it was that killed me managed to break it easily. So its not invincible and can still be broken. I shouldn't rely on it at all. And I don't know if the barrier itself is the watch's main ability." Subaru pressed the button on the watch and the faceplate popped out once more. This time Satella didn't show up so he looked at the silhouette before cautiously turning the faceplate around. The silhouette changed from a figure with fire on their head to a figure with four arms. Subaru kept changing them until he decided to press the faceplate back down.
There was a flash of bright green light and Subaru felt different.
There was a cracked mirror next to the crate he sat on and he looked at it only to gasp in surprise.
A pair of green eyes stared back at him, with a blue face that was encased in a black helmet like thing.
Subaru studied himself more. His body looked like a velociraptor. He had wheels underneath his feet. His body was mainly black but he had blue arms, legs and blue stripes on his tail. His chest was mainly white and sported the hourglass logo. "What the hell?!" He asked standing up, only to slip on his wheels and fall onto his back. "That's me?!"
Subaru then felt a flood of information fill his brain and suddenly, he felt accustomed to this body. Like this was his own body. He looked at the hourglass on his chest and instantly he knew.
The reason why he seemed faster and stronger, the barrier, the reason he wasn't panicking when he had died and instead thought rationally, and now this.
That watch. It was all because of that watch, it's like a cheat item. Even now it just filled his brain with information about the thing he had transformed into and made his brain get accustomed to the new body.
He shuddered, who the hell thought it was a good idea to make something so powerful, and who was the guy that decided it was alright to give it to him?!
(In a dark void, Innominate chuckled)
"Alright, if what I've been told is true…" Subaru got to his feet, the unease of being in a new body disappeared and confidence took its place.
A visor snapped shut over his face and he dashed off at speeds higher than the speed of sound.
In a few seconds he found himself standing in front of the very house he had died not too long ago. "Friction control, so I can run fast as fuck. Damn." Subaru looked at the dust trail behind him. "Now what do I do?" He thought as the visor disappeared. "I don't want to let whoever that killed me and Satella roam free. The thief was probably hired to steal Satella's insignia and the killer was probably sent to collect it. Or the killer was just that, a killer that walked into the deal and killed everyone? Possible but not really. Dammit I'm missing too much information. At the very least, I can check out the house right now. See if I can gather more information. I don't want to use that ability and treat this as a throwaway life. Doesn't feel right." Subaru muttered to himself. "Actually I can't walk in there looking like this! Can I transform back?" He pressed the hourglass logo but to his dismay it did nothing.
He was about to think of what to do when a beeping noise caught his attention. The hourglass was flashing red while beeping and suddenly he was engulfed in a bright red light.
He now stood at the same spot but back in his old body. "Guess it has a timer," he said as he looked at the now red faceplate, it wouldn't let him transform either. He slapped his cheeks a little and then started to walk towards the loot house. It was when he was already knocking when he realized. "Oh shit, what if the killer is the owner of the loot house? Then I'm walking right into a deathtrap!"
It was too late as he heard a voice on the other side of the door.
"For the rat?"
Huh? A passcode maybe?
"Uh, poison?"
"For the white whale?"
What the hell was a white whale? It didn't matter. "Look I don't know the passcode but I really need to talk, it's important." Subaru said, frustrated.
There was a sigh as the door opened and Subaru was met with the sight of the giant from before, except this time he was alive.
After talking to the giant who Subaru came to know as called Rom, he discovered a few things.
Felt was indeed hired by an unknown source to steal the insignia today. The deal was going to happen soon. Subaru had initially suspected that the thief could've also killed Rom but just from their talk alone Subaru knew that was out of the question as Felt seemed to be like Rom's granddaughter. Then it really was an outside source that had killed Rom, himself and Satella last time. Felt was probably killed too, but it didn't matter.
This time he was going to save them. He didn't really know why but, walking away from all this and knowing full well he could've prevented this would plague his mind constantly. And he really wanted revenge on the person who had killed Satella and himself. He was sure Satella was finally opening up to him too!
There was a knock on the door and Rom opened it after the person on the other side gave the passcode.
"Who's this?" Felt asked.
"He's going to be bargaining for the insignia you stole, so a rival to your employer." Rom said as he prepared a glass of milk for Felt. That was the story Subaru had given Rom and it was true…mostly.
Subaru watched as the two talked and his decision to save them was further cemented. They really did look like family.
Subaru was then reminded harshly about the parents who he had left behind when he came here. He gritted his teeth, he'll…think about that later.
There was a knock on the door and his attention was brought to it immediately.
"It's for me." Felt said as she went towards the door. Subaru eyed Rom as he took a club from beneath the counter, and made a comment about how he looked like a barbarian carrying that. "You have to be ready in case of a deal going south, in the slums life is never easy." Rom said in that weird speech of his as he hefted the club onto his shoulder.
"I was right, it was for me." Subaru turned around and flinched. This was his killer, without a doubt.
A well-endowed woman with black hair and purple dead looking eyes. She wore a black cloak over a dress that barely covered her assets. Her cleavage and stomach was visible, along with most of her back. But the aura she gave off…Subaru was terrified.
"I was aware of the giant being here, but who is this?" She questioned as she looked at Subaru.
"I'm your rival, I'm here to buy the insignia as well." Subaru told her, his hand nervously cradling the watch. The woman saw his anxiety, but she didn't comment on it.
She sat down across from him at the other end of the table as Felt sat to the side. Rom stood next to her as Felt began.
"How much do you guys have to offer?" Felt asked. "My employer gave me 10 holy coins, but as a precaution decided to give me 10 more. So 20 holy coins." The woman spoke. "I have a metia," Subaru had already shown it to Rom to have its value checked before all this so he was confident in saying "that's worth more than 20 holy coins, depending on the person who's willing to buy it."
The woman sighed, accepting her defeat. "It seems I've lost, it was really my employer's fault for not paying enough. Before I go though, for what reason do you want the insignia?"
Without even thinking about it (which in retrospect, he knew was dumb. Even with his mind enhanced by the watch, it seemed like his impulsiveness was something that not even the watch can help) "To return it to its owner."
As the words slipped out of his mouth, Subaru mentally facepalmed at his idiocy. The woman's gaze turned sharp. Felt jumped at Subaru and brought him to the ground, the two narrowly missing the blade that had been aimed at his stomach. Rom lifted his club and smashed the area where the woman had been standing but she weaved out of the way.
"Are you insane?! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!" Felt berated him as they stood up. "My bad." Subaru sheepishly chuckled before he looked towards the fight that was happening in front of him. His arm went for the watch, ready to transform and join the fight but he found himself unable to.
Fucking hell Subaru, this isn't the time for PTSD!
He shook his thoughts away and pressed the button before slamming the faceplate down with all his might.
There was a flash of bright green light and everyone's attention was brought to him.
Where Subaru had been standing was a creature comprised entirely of green crystal. He wore a full body suit that didn't cover his arms with black and white as primary colors. Its yellow eyes glared at the woman with barely concealed anger.
"You aren't going to kill anyone here today." Subaru spoke with hostility evident in his tone and he aimed his hand at the woman. Shards of crystal was shot towards the woman with speeds fast enough that she couldn't dodge them.
The crystals tore through her chest, stomach and head, before lodging into the wall behind her.
Subaru couldn't believe it. The woman he had been fearing was killed so easily, it was almost hilarious how scared he had been of her.
"I thought there would've been more fighting but it looks like she's dead. Was I panicking over nothing?"
That's when the woman stood up from the floor, her wounds already healed and looking at him with an erotic gaze. "My~, to think I'd find an amazing opponent today." She brought out two knives from behind her, now ignoring Rom and Felt who stood ways away from them, not sure what to do. "My name is Elsa Granhiert, but I'm widely known as the Bowel Hunter. And who is the dance partner I'm so lucky to be able to dance with today?"
"My name is Natsuki Subaru, and I'm going to blind you with my radiance." Subaru pointed at her before turning his arms into sharp crystal. The two engaged in battle. Elsa's blades clashed with Subaru's crystals leaving sparks. Subaru tried to roundhouse kick Elsa but she dodged before bringing the blades towards his head. Subaru merely let the blade hit, where it glanced off due to the toughness of his crystal body. Taking his chance, he morphed his arms back into their original shape before punching Elsa with all his might, making her fly through the roof of the loot house. Turning towards Felt and Rom he pointed towards the door. "Run! Get help if you can, it's too dangerous here!"
Now that he knew Elsa could regenerate, it was really a battle of attrition. Either she gets tired or can't regenerate anymore (somehow Subaru didn't think that was an option) or he times out and transforms back into a human, which means he had nothing but the barrier and inhuman speed and strength to fight her with. Luckily for him, this form's crystal body seemed to be invincible, so the chances of him getting injured and unable to continue was basically zero.
Elsa burst in through the wall within a flash, her blade aimed for his stomach. Subaru didn't attempt to block or dodge.
His mistake.
The blade sunk deep into his stomach, cracking his crystal body and leaving a visible indent through the cut in his suit.
He felt pain.
He felt pain.
This Elsa was no joke. Subaru pushed her away and touched the ground with his palm. The ground shook as shards of crystal thrust from beneath the floor and impaled Elsa through her abdomen. Throwing aside sympathy, Subaru made the crystal chunk explode, stabbing Elsa repeatedly and even cutting off her body in places and sending her limbs and various parts splattering across the floor.
He felt the urge to vomit at what he had done but to his surprise Elsa started to heal herself from where her head was.
Within seconds, she was standing before him again, blades already within her hand, a manic expression on her face.
"Show me more!" Elsa dashed towards him; this was the most entertaining fight she had been in.
Subaru clenched his teeth and got in a fighting stance. Elsa slashed at him, he blocked it with his forearms but grunted as he felt pain as she left an indent in his crystalline body once more. He smashed her head but she regenerated. She ducked under his haymaker and slashed upward, but the attack was blocked with crystal chunks growing from the floor.
He had to end this now.
Clenching his fists, he made shards of crystals form from the floor and stab Elsa once again. This time the crystals coated her entire body, leaving no room for her to move until eventually, Elsa was nothing but a crystallized statue.
"Impressive." Subaru turned around, arms raised, ready to fend off another attacker but was met with a man wearing white clothes and burning red hair with a fancy looking sword strapped to his side. "I was told there was a fight happening here by an old man and a young girl and they insisted that I assist 'the green crystal creature' but it seems like you have already taken care of the problem." The man smiled. "She was terrifying." Subaru said bluntly before realizing someone else was behind the man. "Satella?" She visibly flinched. "That's not my name!" She seemed angry. Subaru was shocked but immediately tried to calm her. "I'm sorry! I thought-," That's when they heard the sound of crystals breaking and Subaru looked at Elsa, only to see her dashing towards the silver haired girl.
Without thinking, he put his arm up and a dome of crystal covered the girl, protecting her from Elsa. The man with red hair dashed towards the Bowel Hunter, who jumped away before staring at them all before settling on Subaru. "I look forward to our next encounter, Natsuki Subaru." She licked her lips seductively before disappearing into the night.
Subaru sighed in relief as he willed the dome of crystal to fall apart, revealing a confused silver haired girl. Subaru walked towards her and bowed, his huge crystal body making the action look funny. "Please forgive me for calling you with the wrong name I didn't mean to." The silver haired girl sighed; she could forgive this. "Well, I suppose you did save my life. You can ask me for something in return, its only fair." She spoke. Subaru glanced at her with surprise before smiling and pointing his hand at the sky, adopting his signature pose once more.
"My name is Natsuki Subaru. Please," he pointed at her before snapping his fingers and holding out his hand. "tell me your name."
The girl was shocked for a few seconds. Then she laughed, bell like laughter that soothed his ears.
"It's Emilia, just Emilia. And thank you for saving me, Subaru."
It was then that Felt and Rom appeared. Subaru watched as Emilia and Felt conversed. The man with the red hair walked towards him. "Subaru, right?" Subaru nodded.
"My name is Reinhard, the current generation Sword Saint, if I may, can I ask what you are exactly?"
Subaru thought about it for a while then shrugged. "This isn't my actual form. Its all because of this watch that allows me to transform into things, along with giving me enhanced strength, speed and a protective barrier." Subaru didn't find any reason not to tell Reinhard this, he seemed trustable. "Is that perhaps a metia? I have never heard of magic like this. And what you say is true, this only shocks me more." Reinhard said. Subaru chuckled, to be honest he didn't really know what it was either but it saved his ass already so he was grateful.
That's when the beeping began. Everyone looked at him, specifically at the flashing red hourglass.
"Oh sorry wait just a moment." Subaru said.
In a flash of red light, Subaru transformed back into human form. They looked at him in shock, with the exception of Rom and Felt who had seen him transform before.
Subaru made to walk towards them when pain blinded him. He looked at his stomach to see that the cut he had gotten from Elsa had transferred over to his human self as well.
Shit.
Subaru fell over backwards as blood spurted out of his stomach like a geyser.
The last thing he saw was a worried Emilia against the moonlit sky. She's beautiful even when she's panicking. Truly a fantasy world miracle.
He closed his eyes.
If it's not obvious yes Subaru got the Omnitrix. I've fantasized about it for a while and decided; you know what? Lets see what happens. Obviously I've made changes to this version of the Omnitrix, there's gonna be more changes as well but for now the Omnitrix other than giving him the ability to transform into the original 10 aliens (it's the original omnitrix) it also has a passive effect of enhancing his speed, reflexes, strength and all his senses, along with the protective barrier that can take most hits unless they're really powerful. It also gives him a higher IQ, I like to imagine that the some of the abilities of the aliens are increasing his human self's power. Like his mind is being enhanced with Grey Matter's smartness, his speed is a quarter of XLR8 and is strength is a quarter of Four Arms. He's still weaker than most characters in Re Zero in his human form but isn't weak as he was before. I'm not sure if I'll continue this, this chapter was chockful of plot holes and grammar mistakes that I'm not proud of. For now tho I think Ill focus on finishing Arc 2
