As the guards raided Limbo, the traitors of Limbo had to wonder just how they managed to get the drop on them and for the ones they kept a close eye on the potential leaks, just how they managed to inform the guards without them ever noticing.
MOMENTS AGO BEFORE LIMBO RAID
"We have something to report," said the guard, seemingly leading the group of guards and inmates.
"Give us your report, Shi," Eris crossed her arms as she looked over the ragtag group. Well, the only ragtag factors were the inmates that accompanied them.
In terms of guards, it was Shi, Hokori, Tai, Alexios, Dahlia, Yukiko, Mizaru, Iwazaru, Kikazaru, Osamu and Suimin. In terms of inmates, it was just Mariko and Demelza.
The prison's Cerberus gave the inmate a nudge. "Go ahead."
Mariko Tsujihara stepped forward, holding out a piece of paper. "A note from Ashita." having the piece of paper taken from her, Eris immediately started to read it.
It didn't take long for the warden's golden eye to widen as she read the note. "Is this true?"
Both the inmate and guard nodded. "If it's Ashita, then it's true." Shi added as she stepped forward. "I fully trust in the information broker's abilities."
"What is it?" The other warden stepped forth as Eris tossed him the note and his eyes widened too as he read through it. "What the…!"
"Limbo…" the word left Eris' mouth venomously. "So…that's what Vito was talking about."
Slowly, things were starting to make sense. Though, there was still the red eye mystery…that would have to come later though as she gave the two inmates a look.
"Thank you for delivering this to us."
It was a good thing that they managed to deliver Ashita's note.
Demelza followed Mariko as they headed towards a guard, she had no idea which one. They passed a few guards already, but Mariko only said: "Not them."
So there was a specific guard in mind. Great.
"Who are we looking for?" Demelza asked, her eyes slowly turning a darker shade of silver over time.
"...Shi…"
"Uh…who?" Demelza Brathwaite was still new to the prison and the confusion would have shown beneath her mask. "I'm new here. Still learning the faces of the guards…"
Mariko, at first, didn't say a thing as she realised her error.
"...ah, she has a…jackal's head," the one that escaped mentioned as she held the note she was given tightly. She had no idea how the guards would even react to her, let alone someone like Shi or god forbid Tai.
It was then that the two came upon the guard in question after a little bit of time…and she wasn't alone.
It was a large group of guards too.
"That's her…" Mariko was a little hesitant as the masked Demelza followed her gaze…right to the jackal headed guard.
And the others that were with her.
"So many strong sour faces…" Killjoy noted, as she specifically looked at Tai, Dahlia, Shi and Osamu. She didn't really know them of course, but she was drawn to their emotions. "They're enough to drown out the others' happiness." she thought as she gauged the strength of their emotions.
Taking a deep breath, Mariko decided to face the music as she held a tight grip on Ashita's note.
"That's finally done, what a chore," Dahlia huffed as she crossed her arms. "Can't believe Bunri got out of that shit so easily…"
"Well, good work as always," Mizaru smiled, hanging back with his siblings as he adjusted the cloth over his eyes.
"I just hope I get to see Daedalus tonight…I really don't want to waste those tickets…" Yukiko sighed as she stretched as her lens-like eyes were met with a smiling harpy.
"Sounds fun! How many-" she was silenced by the camera-lens eyed correctional officer.
Shi just shook her head at the sight. "Hope Zugai isn't too bogged down with all that. She's the one driving most of them."
"Huh, never thought we'd hear you talk so much, Shi." the blind guard laughed, causing the muscular jackal headed woman to cough. "It's good though!"
Tai just growled, "at least we finally sorted out those Mares of Diomedes idiots." he then smirked. "At least we get to keep the working motorhorses."
The Mares of Diomedes.
An outlaw posse that resembled the old wild west outlaws right down to the crimes and motorhorses they used to re-enact riding horses like true western cowboys. Now, they managed to capture the five higher ups of the gang during their raid on Styx while all the nameless grunts were sent to other miscellaneous regular prisons.
It was a busy morning for the guards of Styx that day.
Though one guard was down in the dumps. That one was the last one Demelza noted, Osamu. He was left to himself as he mumbled about someone, only for Tai to shout.
"Stop mumbling about your sister, siscon!"
"I'm NOT a siscon!"
"Are you sure about that? Cause it sure doesn't look or sound like it! Go be gross about it somewhere else!"
"Easy you two, now's not the time." Alexios said as he looked towards the approaching inmates. "We have guests."
All eyes fell upon Mariko and Demelza as they approached.
"Can we help you?" Alexios asked with a friendly tone that Demelza liked.
It was now or never. Mariko held out the piece of paper. "Ashita asked me to give Shi this…" the black sheep handed the note over to the electrical barrier creating guard, causing Shi's eyes to widen.
"...let me have a look," the jackal walked over, taking the note and reading it. "...It's Ashita alright. I gave her this…" a rare smile popped onto the guard dog's face to an uncanny degree before it turned into the usual snarling she was known for.
"Read this!" she passed it along the guards among them and one by one, their reactions varied. Anger, shock, disbelief. Some held a curious look while another guard seemed eager to rush right in.
"No way this has been going under our noses, how?!" Yukiko looked up from the passed note as Osamu filled Mizaru in on what the note said.
Tai punched his fists together. "Let's go fuck them up right now!" he sadistically grinned, but Alexios' hand squeezed down on his shoulder.
"Easy…" though, Alexios' eyes showed a similar glint after what he read, removing his hand from his fellow guard.
"Limbo…" Suimin tested the name. "Hm…"
After being filled in on what was happening, Mizaru joined in. "Before we act rashly, it would be better if we had more people we can trust. We could possibly be outnumbered."
"Who should we bring? The rookie? Bunri? Shimaru? Dion? Charon and the rest of that ward? Who?" asked the guard in the white uniform, Yukiko, who had a bad feeling about her music tickets.
The quirkless guard nodded. "They sound like the safest options. We have no idea about the numbers of Limbo."
"As long as we have Bunri, we'd outnumber them." Shi said, looking around the group. "We should only get people who we know and can confirm that have been questioned and screened by Eris."
"So who Yukiko suggested?" The winged armed guard raised her wings into the air. "Should we go to that ward?"
"It might take too long to get there before we get to Limbo, unless we have Shimaru. We should discuss it with the wardens first," the Greek guard Alexios shook his head, "besides you read the note, we need to go now before Limbo stops for the day. We have no idea when they're going to pop up next or when it's stopping. We should head out now before we lose the opportunity."
The red eyed Tai looked ready to roll out. "What Alexios said! Those fuckers are probably going to wrap up soon, the note says its supposed to be a short one today. We gotta get a fucking move on and ruin their day!"
As the jackal looked around the group, she closed her eyes for a moment. The note might have said that guards were participating in Limbo, but, "remember, we don't know who is in on it either, best to keep to the ones trusted and as I said, confirmed to be clean. The rest of them are to be considered off limits and avoided for the operation."
"It never stopped us before," Tai huffed, crossing his arms. "So who's going to get the others then?"
"We'll do it!" The short harpy raised her wings as she brought Kikazaru close. "We'll find them as soon as we can and meet you there!"
Alexios then added, "remember, if you can't find them or one of them, it's fine." He gave Kikazaru a smile as he signed her plan while her mute brother Iwa nodded.
"Roger!" Suimin saluted as Kika joined in.
"It's one thing after another," Dahlia muttered as she frowned. Seriously? What was up with this place? It was like the black hole for insanity in her eyes with how much shit happened in such a short amount of time.
No time to waste.
"We need to inform the wardens," Shi then turned to the inmates. "You two, come with us."
Kikazaru and Suimin then ran to get a hold of the other guards mentioned and Mariko was not looking forward to seeing the guard that brought her back to Styx.
As Mariko and Demelza were dragged here by the guards, they both wondered how long they would be here as the guards began to talk while Alexios escorted them away from the majority.
Hokori shot Styx's escapist with a sheepish smile, but Mariko wanted nothing to do with the fox. "Understandable…" he thought. He was suddenly grabbed by his seniors and dragged here as he was filled in on the situation. Once he joined up with the group, he made it really awkward for the inmate that was dragged back into Styx.
"Wow…just wow." Bunri read the note next. "How are they able to do this and not get caught?"
"Simple," Shi huffed, "they've got a large number of people all in on it and working together."
"Traitors…" Seimei hissed, gripping the wooden sword he usually used.
Alexios then stepped forward, "should we let Stygian's guards know about this?"
"No," Eris shook her head, "they've got enough on their plate, besides we need to keep a few back in case those behind Limbo or a third party take advantage of the lack of guards there. They've already gotten the other wards with ease. We can't leave the dangerous ones alone and unprotected, so they'll stay put."
"I should let Shimaru and that know to help guard the infirmary," the other warden thought, thinking to the other screened and clean guards.
They really didn't need a third party getting into the infirmary either…
"What about the others? Should we get anyone else?" asked Hokori, mainly thinking about the drinker he had been spending time with as the male warden shook his head.
"No, we're good with this size, play it safer this way. Too many trusted and screened prison guards gathering together might be suspicious when they know that a group of prisoners discovered them. If Ashita made other inmates deliver that note, they'll be on guard and take notice of a large gathering. Its good that you brought those inmates that can be used a cover, like their quirks. Besides, we have no time to waste in gathering more guards for the raid."
"We have no idea how long Limbo is going to go today, judging from Ashita's note, so we need to act-" Eris was unable to finish as everyone was taken off guard.
The conversation was cut short as suddenly, the room shook and Seimei instantly dived behind his fellow warden's desk the moment the rumbling occurred. The inmates, Mariko and Demelza, looked confused as the guards in the group tried to keep their balance.
It was short lived as the rumbling stopped.
"The fuck was that?!" Tai growled as the male warden sighed.
"It's safe…" he mumbled under his breath, making sure the wrapped up large egg was safe. As he stood back up, keeping the egg out of sight from the inmates (and anyone that didn't know), he turned back to the group as Eris narrowed her eyes at the rumble.
"Did you hear that?" she asked as Shi and Hokori frowned. Shi's frown looked serious compared to the confusion of the rookie's.
"Yeah," both nodded in unison.
"It sounded like it came from the co-ed ward." the jackal headed guard crossed her arms.
The fox on the other hand mentioned, "it sounded like…explosions?"
It wasn't long before the alarm came through. "...fighting in the co-ed ward," Osamu looked back at the others. "I'll take care of this."
Eris however raised her hand, "wait a second. Take some of Bunri's clones with you before you go." Osamu saluted as Bunri started cloning himself, creating another small army.
She then turned to Seimei. "This might actually be a good stroke of luck too. We can use this to our advantage."
It was like a lightbulb popped over Seimei's head. "True!"
"What do you mean?" asked Alexios as he stood back, making sure the inmates were alright.
"We can use this fight to disguise our discovery of Limbo, making it look like we're only going after the fight in the co-ed ward. We don't know how many people they have in the wards, so having that as a distraction will hide ourselves until we are busting down their doors."
A grin came from Tai. "Sneaky! I like it. I can't wait to see their faces when we break in!"
"The question is, who's going in?" asked Yukiko as she looked around the room. "Are we all going to raid Limbo?"
"No," Seimei picked up his bokken, giving it a test swing. "We'll split up into groups. I'll lead the raid team. We'll have another team surround the outside of Limbo to prevent any escapes."
"We should also have people around the ward as well to take care of any other traitors. We could have some guards and inmates in peril, like Ashita. Who knows what these traitors will do once they learn Limbo's been discovered." Eris added on. "I'll handle the escape prevention team."
"So who's on what team?" Mizaru asked, causing Seimei to give them all a look.
"Alexios, Tai, Suimin, Shi, Hokori and Bunri's clones are with me." he started as the now selected raid team nodded. "Yukiko, Dahlia, Mizaru will handle the traitors that try to escape with assistance from Bunri with Eris."
Now it was time for the other team to nod. "Osamu and Bunri's clones will attend to the co-ed ward problem. We'll start the operation now. Iwazaru and Kikazaru will handle the other wards in case of traitor attacks. Of course, Bunri's clones will still increase security as before."
"Roger," Bunri saluted as Yukiko signed to Kika about the plans.
The female warden then waved her hand, commanding the troops. "Now, move out!"
As all the teams moved out, prepared to take out Limbo, Eris gave a nod to Bunri who's clones escorted the pair of inmates out while a clone remained behind with the egg. "Maybe we can finally get some answers."
As the raid continued, many of the helmet wearing traitors were pinned, tied and cuffed. Many were restrained as the guard vs guard battle unfolded in the current location of Limbo. Many of the guard's forces, which were Bunri's many clones, had also been taken out in the chaos.
The guard vs guard war raged on as Seimei slammed another traitor into the ground.
"This is Bunri," came a voice as Seimei placed his finger to his right ear. "I have found where the inmates they used for these fights are, they are cooperative…though we have injured inmates here. Some are in bad condition."
"On my way," the voice of Alexios came through next on the earpiece.
"However, Inyoku started off cooperative, but he managed to run off and slipped by my clones saying that he wants to join in on the fun," Bunri continued with his message, "the other inmates are still here, just that Inyoku is loose and seems keen on joining the chaos."
"Understood," Seimei said as he swung his wooden sword to the side, hitting one of the traitors that went to take him down.
"There's one last thing," Bunri mentioned, "apparently there are some inmates that aren't here, besides Shi's inmate team. David and Jin are also somewhere and-"
Shi's voice then came through the earpiece. "Sae is with me."
Alexios then followed. "I already apprehended one of the inmates, he is located in the halls. He seemed insistent on…assisting these traitors…"
Seimei looked up to see Suimin put more traitors to sleep, though a few clones got hit in the crossfire and went down with them. "Oops…"
"We'll keep a lookout for Flannegan and Nakamura." the warden whacked another traitor across the room, removing his hand from his earpiece, he tossed the wooden sword back to his right hand as he sent another traitor flying across Limbo's room.
"Boss!" the harpy called out as she flapped her wings, slamming a traitor into the ground with her talon-feet.
"Yes, Suimin?"
"There's a FIRE!" she pointed towards the group of clones pulling back the captured traitors as smoke came down the hallways.
Activating his earpiece once more, Seimei alerted the rest. "We have a fire. Possibly started by the traitors, watch yourself. They might have altered the emergency sprinklers." getting off his earpiece, the male warden ran towards the smoke.
"If they willingly started a fire right when we discovered them, they must be covering something up!"
As he ran, he heard on his earpiece, "I got in contact with the armourers, they're sending in repair drones as we speak." the rookie's voice came through. "They'll deal with the fire and I have delivered Koneko to the infirmary. Lambert and Carna are ready for more injured inmates."
"Roger that," came Alexios. "I just got to where Bunri is, I'm taking the two heavily injured inmates to them now."
"I'll be right there to lend a hand."
"Thanks."
Shi's voice came in next. "I'll escort Sae out of Limbo. Do you require my assistance?"
"No, get her to safety first," was the electric blue eyed guard's reply. "Since they found Limbo, they still might target them."
As Seimei listened to the chatter, he kept running towards the flame, getting closer and closer as he noticed the small group behind him. Clones and Suimin. "You don't need to follow."
"Then you got another thing coming, Boss!" the harpy smiled widely. "You should have known us by now!"
The warden chuckled at that. "Silly me. Come on then! Let's get there before the fire gets worse!"
As they reached the room where the fire came from, Seimei busted down the door with a single kick.
"So this is where they pulled the strings," thought the warden as they entered the burning room. Everything was aflame!
"Quickly, grab any evidence that remains before the flames engulf the entire room!" he ordered and the clones rushed in with the harpy guarding the door.
As the clones raided the burning room, Seimei joined in…only to see something in an adjacent connected room.
"...Rhys?" The warden looked down at the bodies in the room. Calling them bodies wasn't exactly right anymore with how little was left of them and the flames that spread through the room. "How is that possible? He was shipped off to the funeral home…"
Seimei grabbed hold of the two bodies and rushed them out of the burning wreck, shocking the poor winged woman.
The only reason he was able to recognize Rhys was due to damage done to the face…from earlier. The other body with him, was bald and muscular, the skinned survived much of the burning compared to the other, but it too gave out and succumbed with not much. It didn't take long for Seimei to realise who this was, though a test was needed to confirm it one hundred percent.
"This is Seimei…we've made a discovery," he sighed. "We've found the remains of the corpse of Rhys Dignam and…Gousen Hikudo."
"I thought Rhys was sent to the funeral home?" Alexios was the first to respond.
"So did I…" sighed the black haired warden who inspected the bodies. "Just what are they doing to corpses and inmates?"
"That explains where Gousen disappeared too…" Bunri sighed.
Removing his finger from the earpiece once more, he ordered the clones to transport the corpses. "It seems they found something," Suimin tapped the warden's back with her talons.
"The fire destroyed everything," one of the clones that emerged from the burning room coughed, before holding up a piece of paper, ripped as if to stop spreading flames. "We managed to salvage this."
"Good work, Bunri."
Taking the piece of paper, he gave it a look over. It seemed the damage had been done however, as what was left on the page didn't give out much info as he hoped.
"Drone?" instant confusion at what he read. "What does this mean? Multi-Type? Single-Type? Feline…bodyguard…and more odd details. I need to look over it later." he pocketed it away for a later inspection.
"Seimei!" one of the following clones called out. "We…we found something else. They tried to burn it too it seems, but we managed to get there just in time."
"Lead the way."
Following the small group past many tied and cuffed helmet-wearing traitors, unconscious or not, a foul stench came from the room they stopped before. Opening the door, Seimei, Suimin and the others learned just what made that horrid smell.
"This is Seimei…we discovered the dumping grounds."
"Dumping grounds?" Bunri's voice came through the earpiece.
Seimei looked down at the multiple corpses from Crazy Ape, Jolly Holiday, Iron Gauntlet and more. "Deceased inmates that participated in Limbo…or what's left of them."
Many of the corpses…barely had their bodies remaining. It was a miracle that he was even able to make out the very few remains to begin with. It was like…someone had a feast.
David was confused. The moment he woke up in Limbo's makeshift infirmary, he ran out as fast as he could, just as the chaos unfolded when Limbo was raided.
The reason for his confusion?
His parole!
The reason he was brought into Limbo by the guards was his parole! So he could be a hero! Turn his life around and BAM, heroism after serving his sentence! Now, Limbo was going under and…what happens to him now?!
His future was on the line!
Perhaps if the raid never happened, he would still be in bed, but sadly, that was not the reality he was in. He tried to talk with the Limbo guards, but to no avail.
They didn't spare him the time of day.
"Get out of here!"
"Now's not the time!"
"Fuck off!"
"If you're not going to help us, then fuck right off you hero wannabe!"
As the last one said that, he asked, "what's happening? What about my parole?"
"SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT YOUR SHITTY PAROLE FOR FIVE GODDAMN SECONDS! YOU WANT YOUR PAROLE SO BADLY YOU DELUSIONAL BASTARD? THEN FIGHT OFF THESE GUARDS!" they screamed at him, but David frowned at that.
"That…wasn't a part of our original deal…"
When David ran through Limbo, he had a bad feeling of what he saw when he did. Guards attacking guards. He knew he made a deal with them to partake in Limbo for his parole, but they never told him to attack other guards before, like now.
In fact, he heard one of them mention something about the warden being here!
On the raiding side!
Sure, he was willing to do what they said for his parole, but hearing the warden on the attacking side? It gave David only horrible thoughts when it came to his parole.
As soon as he said that though, the helmet-wearing guard stopped dead in their tracks. "...what?"
"Our deal-" David was cut off by the guard.
"If you still want your parole, then you'll get out there and help us!" The guard grabbed a hold of the inmate. "Unless…you never wanted your parole to begin with?"
"I heard the warden was here," he was then shoved back as the guard released him. "Fighting the warden, that sounds like the opposite of my par-"
David was sent back as he landed on his back!
"MY GOD HOW DUMB ARE YOU?!" the guard shouted, ready to strike down the inmate again. "IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO HELP, FORGET IT! IT'S NOT LIKE YOU CAN EVER BE A HERO ANYWAY! STUPID FUCK, WHEN THINGS GO SOUTH YOU'RE USELESS! IT DIDN'T EXIST! NEVER DID! GO CRAWL INTO A HOLE AND-!"
They never had a chance to finish a sadistic voice called out behind them.
"Found you~!"
The guard was slammed into the wall as a sun burnt brightly. As the mini sun shined brightly, its owner looked down at the inmate who just stared up at him.
"What do we have here? An inmate?" Tai grinned like a cat finding a lonely mouse. "You're not with the others…are you helping these traitors? Say yes, just say yes."
He was more bloodthirsty than the opponents he fought in Limbo…
"My…pa…"
"What? Speak the fuck up."
"My parole!" He was a lot clearer now. "What's going to happen to my parole?!"
All David got in response was: "Parole? What fucking parole?"
"I was promised a parole! We have a deal, remember? So I can be a hero-" David Flannegan was cut off by the howling laughter of Tai Yonamine.
"A hero? You? That's the funniest fucking thing I ever heard besides heroes themselves. You want to be one of those useless fuck ups?" as Tai laughed, David charged right in!
"Don't laugh at my-"
A fist crashed into his face. "As I said. Don't make me laugh. You're a criminal, you aren't a special case that can become one. You will never be a hero." the guard stepped forward, closer and closer. "I don't know who told you that bullshit, but among all the inmates that have a parole, your name was never listed with them. You never had a parole."
"What?"
Was he…being used? All this time?
WAS IT ALL FOR NOTHING?!
Releasing a primal scream, David rushed back in seeing nothing but red. There was nothing left for him now.
"Wow, aren't you fucking pathetic?" Tai watched as David lunged right at him and then, he struck as David flew into the wall thanks to a hot burning pain in his stomach. Tai's sun. Once he slammed into the wall, the sun disappeared right as Tai punched David's head deeper into the wall, letting the man slide down the wall and onto the floor.
"Don't act like you're some big shot when things don't go your way. It's embarrassing." Tai then immediately went to his earpiece. "What? Roger that, I'm on my way. I also found David and took care of him. I'll be there in under five."
Removing his hand from the earpiece, the red eyed guard glared down at the slumped against the wall inmate who stared into space.
"Consider yourself lucky trash, there's a bigger fish to fry…"
David never noticed Tai walk away, he was left in his own little world now. One that was shattering completely.
There…was never a parole?
"..."
Never?
Still against the wall, it was like the light in his eyes shattered, like a blown light bulb.
As he clenched his hands tightly, slowly turning his fists white, the helmet wearing guards rushed in. "David? Ah, there you-" the guard didn't finish as they were assaulted by the inmate.
There was nothing holding him back now. There was no point in continuing. No parole. No freedom. No heroism. It was like a rabid animal was unleashed within Styx.
"What the- Get him!" The traitors and liars charged him, only for David to violently beat them down. One after the other as they attacked him. It was the sight that the clones walked in on and they too were charged by the inmate.
David attacked all who got in his rampage, both the liars and the clones!
By the time Jin arrived, David looked like a mess. His uniform was ripped as he showed a few knife scars over his body, what seemed to be a bullet scar on his right shoulder and finally, a celtic bear paw over his heart. The bearded inmate just glared, not caring who stood in his way, whether it was these traitors or those clones as he ignored the pain, riding the power boost he gained from it.
David was the only one standing as the helmet-wearing guards scattered the floor and the clones were nowhere to be seen as they dissipated when destroyed.
"David…?"
Jin saw the usually friendly inmate turn to him as those dull green eyes shined a little brighter…and full of rage.
"He took them out…" glancing from the downed Limbo guards to David, Jin raised his fists the moment David took a step forward. "Guess he can only see red."
Jin's thoughts were confirmed as he dodged David's sudden lunge. "Guess we're doing this then."
Activating the move he created during the fight with Kajiru, Jin went on the defence as he played matador with the seeing red David.
"With all the fighting, his quirk must be stacked right now…just my luck," Jin Nakamura threw a punch with his Crystal Boxer in David's bearded face. "Not like I'm helping by fighting him…an opponent that keeps growing stronger the more you hit them. Great."
The inmate with the celtic bear paw over his heart threw wild punches at the rookie.
Jin kept up his defensive play, choosing rather to attack right after David attacked, which only fueled the man's quirk.
Going for a grab right after, Jin jumped back as he dodged the usually rookie friendly prisoner.
Throwing a punch with his crystal boxer, David threw his own punch as the crystal sphere covered fist landed against David's own! Jin heard two different cracks. The first was from David's own fist who punched the heavy layered crystal sphere fist head on. The second was from his crystal.
It didn't break, but a small crack on the crystal covered fist!
"He's getting stronger…strong enough to crack my crystals!" Jin needed to end this now, before David's pain-boosted strength gets even stronger. "Just go down to the pain already! You can't take anymore from the sounds of it!"
No Pain No Gain.
A double edged power where David would eventually fall to the pain if it grew too much despite the strength he received for said pain he received.
"Just go down!" Jin threw his other fist, only for David to catch it. Jin was kicked away, feeling the power of the strong boosted kick.
Jin was ready to attack back as he got back on his feet. David was already rushing in, right as Jin reared his fist back ready to take David down. "COME ON THEN!" he shouted at the rabid convict. "I'LL PUT YOU DOWN!"
Yet as David rushed in, it seemed the fighting served a purpose as he just stared at Jin with nostalgia, as if calmed with having an outlet for his rage. Sadly, his rage was still too strong and fresh.
If only for a second, did David see his younger brother in place of Jin, before he easily disregarded it and charged in anyway, throwing a punch as he was suddenly kicked away by a new arrival.
"Are you okay, Jin?" a new voice said as David just glared at the new arrival.
"W…W…Warden?!" Jin sputtered out, dropping his fighting stance.
"OUT OF MY WAY!" David screamed like a wild beast. It only caused Seimei Tokugawa to frown.
Standing in front of the inmate, the frowning warden scoffed. "It seems Tai was right." The warden pointed his bokken at the rabid inmate with a buzz cut. "I was filled in on everything thanks to Tai and seeing how the clones never came back, I came instead."
The frown deepened on the warden's face. "Yes, there was never a parole, you were used. You engaged in Limbo willingly for a long time and never once came clean about it. I'm sorry, but you will never get a parole or be a hero."
"You…YOU BASTARD!" David was already running in.
"You think that because you have nothing to lose now that your 'parole' is gone, that it never existed, that everyone should be afraid of you? That even the guards should be afraid? Cause of your tantrum? Don't make us laugh. As I said, Tai was right." the warden dropped his wooden sword as he charged in. "It's time for you to cool down!"
The warden moved way faster than what David expected, but he didn't care. The warden was strong, one of the stronger individuals in the prison!
It would only serve to strengthen his No Pain No Gain quirk!
Ignore the pain, it doesn't matter anymore.
The warden will make him stronger!
That's when the warden hit the inmate, within seconds of rushing at him. Yet, David felt nothing but pain! Pain that was so strong that it stopped everything!
It erupted throughout his body and the warden wasn't done yet. Seimei kept going, punching the inmate like he was a punching bag!
As David was hit by the warden, he was hoping that the pain he received would give him an incredible boost! However, as soon as the hits landed, David crumbled to the ground in pain! He could feel it, he wasn't getting stronger at all! It was like his quirk wasn't even working!
David's quirk was similar to that of a glass or cup. The pain he received was like water, the more he received the more the cup was filled. As David and his quirk grew in usage, the metaphorical cup grew as well to hold more and more water. What happened to the water within the cup? Spills? Evaporation? Remain? It didn't really matter, sometimes it stayed, other times it disappeared, but like a glass cannon, when the water overflowed, the pain caught up with David then and there. It was a double edged sword.
However, the pain he received was sometimes drops of water or a steady line or sudden fast shot from a sink tap, though that was against regular opponents.
So what about an opponent like Seimei?
It was simple.
He was practically shot glass while the pain Seimei dished out was equivalent to a high pressure hose (or regular hose) firing at full blast! It would normally break the glass but when it didn't? It left the cup with less water than what it started with.
The amount of pain Seimei was dishing out was too powerful for David's quirk to keep up with!
David was getting tossed around by the warden as nothing but pain filled his body! In fact, he felt weaker! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger…yeah right! Here he was barely keeping conscious as the last thing he thought about as he blacked out was his parole.
And the reality of it.
There never was one.
Located in the solitary confinement ward, a few inmates were locked in the cells as they heard something.
Chaos.
The guards all ran around, talking or mumbling about something. It was hard to tell from their cells.
Kuroishi, who sat in the middle of the cell he was thrown in, glanced towards the cell door of his solitary confinement. Whatever was happening, it seemed big. "What was that noise earlier? That vibration?"
It came out of nowhere.
First he was thrown into solitary confinement after what he and Gin did (who was also locked up in a different cell), then two different groups were thrown into solitary as well from what he heard and finally, as he waited, a rumbling that came out of nowhere.
Now, the guards were rushing everywhere while security increased.
"Was it a person?" he mumbled as the masochistic and sadistic sides of him were thrilled by the possibility, which didn't happen much out of combat…is what he told himself. "It definitely wasn't an earthquake. It had to be man-made, right?"
Sadly, from where he was, he would never get an answer to his question.
So the extremely tall bone horned man returned to waiting. It wasn't like he could do anything else.
…
In another cell close by, Gin stared at the ceiling while laying in bed. While what put him in here was worth it, now he was curious about what was going on outside. Not only did they get increased security, but now the guards were moving out? Plus that rumbling that happened earlier? It felt like he was missing out.
"Hmph," he made no effort to move as he remained in the solitary cell as his thoughts went back to the manhunt he went on with Kuroishi. "That team up wasn't so bad, eh Kuroishi? Now, whatever is going on out there?"
As the minutes passed on by, the greyish skinned inmate closed his grey eyes.
Apparently the guards had something planned and he was more than curious to see just what that was, but for now, the only thing he could do to pass the time was sleep.
…
Another cell, another prisoner.
Rin Yonaga rocked back and forth in his straitjacket, being awakened from the rumbling that shook the prison. A part of him wondered what happened to Remko, but that could wait. He stood and threw himself against the door, but it didn't budge an inch.
Whatever was the cause of that rumbling, it drove his instincts wild! He wanted nothing than to consume the blood of whatever caused it!
Speaking about blood, he remembered something.
His payment!
Remko owed him a lot of blood for the chaos he caused! With renewed vigour, he kicked the solitary cell door many times. "REMKO! MY BLOOD! GIVE ME MY BLOOD!" he screamed to deaf ears as he kept kicking. Wherever Remko was, he felt a shiver down his spine that afternoon.
…
Nearby, in another cell, Akita just looked at the door. Normally, if it was a normal cell, like one in a regular prison, she would have slipped out by now. But no, Styx had to have countermeasures for all inmates. Not to mention her quirk only worked for less than five seconds.
It had been a while since she was thrown into this cell after being brought back. It had been so long since she walked around the female ward. She was the top dog of the female ward and she needed to get back soon.
Her thoughts were preoccupied to the point she didn't care for the rumbling, it was just another occurrence at Styx.
"Soon."
While the raid on Limbo was underway, the traitors were surrounded as soon as some broke off from the main group and away from the raiders, what awaited them was the prevention team!
Not only did they have to fight or slip past the guards that raided them, they now needed to deal with the guards that waited outside for them! Something one of the traitors let the rest know as soon as they realised.
"WE'RE SURROUNDED!"
Nothing left to do but fight as many of the traitors lashed out at the escape prevention team!
As they rushed out, the world went dark to a group. "What?"
All it took was one blink.
Not long after, a wooden sword slammed into the first traitor that muttered the confusion.
Mizaru, who was using his wooden sword as a walking stick, turned on his feet, slamming his wooden sword into another traitor as they fumbled around.
"Shit, I can't open my eyes!"
"Mizaru's about!" a second called out as they were hit in the side of the head.
"That's enough out of you," the blind guard huffed, adjusting the black cloth over his eyes. It didn't take him long to hone in on another traitor thanks to their confusion as the small army of clones rushed in after a safe signal.
Nearby, other guards were taking care of the traitors that tried to escape from different exits of Limbo.
One of them was Dahlia, who just easily sidestepped and dodged all of their attacks when they tried to hit her. The only time they managed to even land a hit, was because it was outside of her vision.
Not something she was proud of, thanks to already hearing Tai's voice if he learnt the news. "You shouldn't have done that," and so, the ones that hit her had it worse than the others she simply knocked down.
"...with how many quirks and people are coming out and fighting, my quirk is sure to be overloaded soon." she thought as she kept her quirk on the bench for the most part. She really didn't want to deal with the after effects of an overloaded quirk.
Another traitor attacked, "...here we go…"
In another area outside Limbo, a group tried to run as suddenly a bright light came out of nowhere, like someone took their photo with the flash on!
A white flash and the traitors froze where they stood. Unable to move from where they stood, like they were caught…in a freeze frame!
The woman in the snow white uniform and camera lens eyes walked on past, knocking all of them down as the handcuffs came out.
"Stop resisting," Yukiko sighed as she let off another flash to another group of traitors. "It's a useless endeavour."
It was then that the sound of something or someone broke through a wall not that far away from her position. As her hand went to her earpiece, she reported, "it sounds like the person that the raid team reported busted through is out, should I engage?"
"Can you make it?" came the voice of Eris, but before Yukiko could reply, more traitors emerged, looking to be from the hole in the wall.
"...more are coming out of the woodworks," the white haired prison guard huffed at the arrival of even more helmet-wearing traitors.
"Deal with them first, I'll head out shortly in pursuit." Eris removed her earpiece as she looked towards some rushing traitors, they seemed to all pull out…mints?
It didn't stop Eris from attacking them though.
"Don't worry," Bunri's voice came next on the earpiece. "I've already sent my clones in pursuit of the target. It seems they're heading to the co-ed ward, I'll send word to the others there to prepare and engage."
"Thanks, Bunri," Eris smirked as she flipped an attacking traitor over onto their head.
Now, she could focus on dealing with these bastards.
"No problem, I'm escorting the living inmates used for Limbo out." Bunri replied as the warden got back into the swing of things as she saw Alexios, Hokori and some of Bunri's clones escort two injured inmates out of Limbo. As the clones mainly kept any traitors off the pair, Eris rushed in to take down some more clones that came out of Limbo.
As a traitor saw her approach, Eris' sole eye began to change, turning into a hypnotic swirl. The helmet wearing guard, unable to look away, had their world flipped upside down as Eris threw them down hard.
Each time she looked at one of these traitors, they were all caught in a trance as she put them down.
When she reached one of the others, noticing that the enemy's numbers were definitely getting smaller, she asked that one.
"Tell me everything about Limbo."
"...Limbo?" the helmet guard asked. "What's that?"
"What?" She grabbed hold of the traitor. "Limbo, tell me everything."
The guard however just asked: "What's Limbo?"
"No, that's impossible for them to not know about Limbo when they were caught in the act." the warden thought as she cuffed the traitor. "...wait…did they find a way to bypass my quirk?!"
How?
How did they do it?
She glanced up after she threw the cuffed traitor away, seeing more of Bunri and his clones leave the raided Limbo area. "He must be escorting the inmates now from the looks of it." Eris thought as she went after the stragglers, using her swirling eye once they looked at her to get in even closer to pin them down.
She had a lot of questions, especially about how they bypassed her quirk. Right now, there was one thing to do before the interrogation began.
It was time to clean up the rest of these traitors.
It was just a shame of how much of their staff was in on this…
…
A short time passed as a call came through her earpiece as Eris and the escape prevention team took care of the rest of the escaping traitors.
"This is Bunri, I have escorted the Limbo inmates to the holding cells for questioning," Bunri said through the earpiece.
"This is Seimei, we have dealt with a majority of the traitors on the inside." he reported, "just a few left to go…"
Eris put a finger to her earpiece. "This is Eris, good work. We're just cleaning the rest up on our end now."
It didn't take long at all to take care of the remnants of Limbo's traitor guards. When compared to the riot of the prisoners, inmates starting a riot was preferred over guards turning out to be traitors. While the wardens and their selected guards made it look easy, they put up a tougher resistance than any of the prison riots.
"This is Yukiko," the ticket holder reported over the comms. "Unidentified target spotted."
"What?" Eris responded, but before she could ask more about this unidentified target, her unasked question was answered.
Arriving on the scene was someone Eris had never seen before. "I see who you mean…" Eris responded as a new face joined the fray.
Similar to Harvester, this one was also bald but unlike the tall Harvester, this one had eyes. Multiple in fact. It had a pair of eyes where you'd expect there to be eyes but then, they had an eye on their chin and two on the side of their face, roughly where their ears would be though still technically on their cheeks.
Their skin was chalk white and they wore an actual pair of pants rather than whatever material Harvester was wearing. Compared to Harvester, this drone was a lot thinner and not nearly as tall.
The drone, Eyesore, was here.
"I'm on my way," Eris heard her team report over the comms as all eyes on Eyesore homed in on her.
The multi-eyed drone's eyes then scattered almost instantly, looking in multiple different directions like a chameleon.
Then, it fired.
From Eyesore's eyes, came five different blasts of lasers! Rainbow coloured in their appearance as it shot around the area, but as Eris charged in, the eyepatch wearing guard saw the lasers bounce off the walls! Ricocheting!
Thanks to the space and how fast the lasers were going, the lasers bounced around at incredible speeds within seconds as Eyesore charged in.
Now focused on defence, Eris was forced to dodge the laser blasts while also dodging the lanky Eyesore's swings.
"Nice try," she said blankly as Eyesore missed their close ranged attacks as she dodged both them and the lasers they fired.
After a short time of defensive play, the lasers eventually gave out as Eris charged in, making sure to get Eyesore to look right at her. Now seeing the drone at least shoot her a look, it was time to act.
So Eris Argyris used her quirk, her golden eye turned into a swirl, a hypnotic black and white swirl.
"Reveal to me, the Mastermind of Limbo!"
Eris quirk was a combination of her parents. Both worked in law enforcement and both used their quirks in their profession. Her mother was a detective with her quirk being Truth Serum. The ability to gain the truth from anyone who it was used against.
Her father was a police officer with his quirk being Eye Contact. A quirk that caused unwavering eye contact between him and the target. Once their eyes met, that was it.
The combination was her quirk!
Trance: Eris' eyes have the ability to force people to reveal the truth while being unable to break eye contact!
The hypnotic swirl actually came from her mother's side of the family, specifically her grandfather. Skipping a generation, it only added to her quirk's power. It's why she was in charge of interrogations.
However, once she asked the question…it didn't answer her. Meaning, the drone either didn't know…or lacked the ability to reveal it.
So, as all five eyes were focused solely on Eris, the warden charged in as they backed away.
There was one thing she picked up from her father.
A QMA style.
Well, less of a style and more of a way to use her quirk in combat.
It couldn't look away from her swirling eye, so she took advantage of it. Because of Eyesore backing up with their eyes on Eris, it slammed into the wall! The sudden impact took it off guard as Eris punched their gut, grabbed their arms and flipped them over as they slammed into the ground.
All the while, it couldn't take their eyes off Eris' shimmering gold eye that was now swirling in an hypnotic fashion.
"You're under arrest."
As it stared at her, it fired a blast with all five lasers heading in the same direction. At Eris.
Thankfully for the warden, dodging was a simple task as it used their quirk to bounce more lasers around the area.
Though, because she dodged, Eyesore began scuttering away now that line of sight was broken as Eris's eye returned to its usual shimmering gold.
As it tried to escape, it dodged a wooden sword as a blindfolded guard arrived bringing down their weapon. "I've arrived!" he called out as Eyesore jumped away, unblinking since the moment it was hatched.
"Stay back, Warden!" The member of Styx's Sanzaru called out as they activated their quirk, but as Eris kept her eyes on Limbo's hidden associate and stranger to Styx, she noticed that it never blinked at all as it continued to dodge Mizaru's graceful sword swings.
"Mizaru, they can't blink," she called out as she closed to distance, right as it fired more rebounding lasers around the battlefield. "Watch out!"
"What?!" The blind guard was taken back at that, making sure he deactivated his quirk. As he heard the lasers bounce around him for a while, it didn't do much for him as one of those lasers pierced through his shoulder. "ARGH!"
"Mizaru!" The warden rushed in as someone else joined the fray. Dodging the lasers with ease, Dahlia Pietyr entered the fight.
Her eyes wide as she saw the direct path of each of the lasers, the auburn and brunette hue haired guard easily dodged the strikes and instantly met right where Eyesore was running too. Giving a lopsided smile, she roundhouse kicked the drone backwards as Mizaru held onto his shoulder.
"Dahlia," Eris gave the new arrival a look. "Keep cutting them off and take them down."
Giving another lopsided smirk, she continued to chase the drone, meeting it at each destination it tried to run too as Mizaru stood once more, gripping their bokken.
As the drone fired another volley of lasers, Mizaru smacked the blast that bounced his way away. "A lucky hit."
As Eris gave chase, more lasers were fired as suddenly Mizaru jumped in front, whacking all the lasers away. "They don't feel as strong as the one that hit me." he mumbled out as Eris patted his head as she ran past, catching Eyesore between a rock and a hard place as both guard and warden attacked from both sides, causing it to scream.
"Hm, perhaps it gets stronger when it rebounds? The more it does, the stronger it grows in turn?" The warden offered her theory out to Mizaru as suddenly, Eyesore fired in panic as the guard (Dahlia) and warden attacked it again.
Now firing multiple bouncing lasers, one after the other, the five lasers rebounding and ricocheting off the walls turned into ten, then fifteen, then twenty…it was still growing as it finally stopped at a nice forty five.
And Eyesore's eyes were going crazy!
Moving every single direction as it kept track of both the guards and its own lasers.
As forty five different rainbow coloured lasers bounced around the battleground, Dahlia's eyes struggled to keep up as soon as each laser bounced off the walls, she didn't see a single option, she started seeing multiple directions. Multiple directions from forty five different lasers.
Because of this, she was soon hit by many of the lasers as she deactivated her quirk for her own sanity. Mizaru didn't fare much better as Eyesore jumped through the lasers…only to fall flat on their face as a white flash froze them where they were.
"Sorry I'm late," Yukiko apologised to the group as she finally arrived.
Eris, who was also hit by the lasers, noted something. Compared to the shot Mizaru took, these lasers never pierced through and once they hit them, disappeared again. "These lasers were recently fired and hit us only after a few bounces, but the one that pierced Mizaru earlier bounced around much more than these ones. So they do get strong enough to pierce flesh after rebounding. Plus they eventually disappear after a while. Good to know."
Though, the lasers still bounced while Eyesore was frozen on the ground. Yukiko still had to take her eyes off the downed drone to dodge the lasers.
Speaking of the drone, thanks to the lasers bouncing around keeping everyone away from it, it slowly got control of its body once Yukiko's quirk finally ended.
"It's hard getting close with these lasers," Yukiko huffed as she dodged more lasers that Eyesore was firing out when the last volley gave out. She barely had enough time to use her Freeze Frame on the running Eyesore who came out swinging at her!
Tried to at least as they froze on the spot as the lasers ricocheted faster, blocking Yukiko from getting closer.
Eris sighed as she rolled her arm, giving the injured Dahlia and Mizaru a brief glance before she turned back to the drone, slowly moving once Freeze Framed ended on it. "It's definitely making sure we don't get close with that many lasers firing around. Clever."
"Dahlia, take Mizaru and get out of here," the warden commanded. Dahlia looked between the laser firing drone and the warden before sighing out as she picked Mizaru up.
Eris looked back at Eyesore who seemed on edge, keeping its guard up as its eyes looked every which direction but her direction.
"The next time you look my way, I will show you why my quirk is called that."
She stopped as she heard something, or someone, getting louder the closer they got. It was…like a rattle.
As one of Eyesore's many eyes looked to the side, Eyesore jumped back as someone spun right at them with their tail! Hitting the ground, the new arrival cheered. "I knew it was a good idea to join in!"
Inyoku-Yui Shiro was ready to fight!
Now faced with a new person he has never seen before, kinda like that Harvester person, the rattlesnake couldn't help but rattle!
"Inyoku?" Mizaru called out after hearing his voice as Dahlia held him up. "Stand down-"
"Hell no! I ain't missing out on the fun!" the snake already threw himself at Eyesore, he dodged yet another tail strike from the snake-eyed and tailed inmate.
Not long after, a small red orb of fire flew through where the raid on Limbo occurred, but instead of hitting its target, the multi-eyed drone jumped over it as what looked to be a miniature sun disappeared in flames.
"What do we have here?" Tai shot a grin as he walked in. "Mind if I take over, warden?"
"Hey! That's my fight!" hissed the rattlesnake, shaking his rattle in an angry manner now.
The guard only smirked. "Yeah, right. Like you can handle that. What are you going to do? Hiss at them?"
"Stop it you two," Eris huffed. "Inyoku, this is your only warning, stand down or-"
Inyoku was dead set on Eyesore, he never spared her a glance. Not to mention how she was ignored before more of those lasers came out of Eyesore, leaving no choice but to move, cutting her off, as the battle unfolded.
Meanwhile, as the raid of Limbo went underway, there were some that took shelter from the sudden chaos.
One such person was Muika…and most of the non-guard staff, like the cooks and janitors.
"Another day, another trouble in paradise," the janitor Penthus huffed as he took a seat close to the prison's 'new' inmate counsellor.
"This sort of thing and the frequency of this shit would never happen at Tartarus." looking up at the ultra-violet haired woman, he asked, "trouble in your paradise too?"
She went to say something, but stopped herself with a sigh. While she looked up at the janitor, she waited a second before sighing once more. "You could call it that…"
"Osamu? Just like last time?"
"...yeah." she huffed, letting her pent up frustrations out.
Penthus chuckled at that. "What did he do this time?"
"Just…ugh…" she started off, "he tried to come around when I was doing my job earlier."
The janitor just sat there, not saying a word as he just stared before finally he said, "so he tried to do the same shit as before, huh? I remember that the wardens wanted to see you too. That must not have been ideal if it's still happening."
She did not want to remember that conversation with the warden and how she was getting close to losing her job.
"It feels…like everyone knows that," the normally nervous woman sounded a bit more confident compared to what she used to be. "I…my job's on the line if he keeps interfering."
"Wasn't he the one that got you this job?"
"Exactly!" Muika began to vent. "I even told him that! It's like I never left home! Seriously! He begged them to let me work here and as soon as I started, it's like he's trying to sabotage me! He's so controlling! Did you know he actively went through inmates I was supposed to work on and took more than half because he deemed it too dangerous for me!"
As the prison's counsellor vented to the janitor, the venting started to slow down a little. "...treating me like I'm helpless, clumsy…like I'm always making mistakes…I hate it. I…hate it so much…"
The hair covered eyed Penthus could only shake his head. "My, my. Seems the prison's siscon has given you a lot of trouble." reaching over and patting her shoulder, red eyes saw another pair of red eyes peeking out. "Now as I said before with what I heard from the guards around here and now you, it really seems to me that your brother is quite manipulative."
Muika could only stare into the other pair of red eyes that barely showed themselves through the mop of brown hair.
She might have said how it was like living at home, but…
…surely it wasn't that bad…
At the same time, it wasn't the first time someone said that now that she thought about it…
She still remembered their previous conversation with the janitor…and the ones she had with other guards about her brother…
Yet Penthus continued, "super overprotective, possessive, manipulative, controlling. Should I go on?" the janitor asked as he counted on his fingers. "You and I both know that others agree with that. You said it was like home, wasn't it? Dragging you away from things he deems too dangerous for you, like a little kid. Interfering with your work, apologies on your behalf when you probably did nothing, laughing at you and not taking you seriously. I definitely saw that happen when on my cleaning rounds."
Muika was unable to keep looking at Penthus as she looked down.
"The more I see and hear of it, that siscon is definitely trying something with you. A lot of people will say the same. Is he treating you like a kid? Cause he's not leaving you alone. That's some possessive, controlling manipulative shit right there." It felt like Penthus was talking right behind her, right into her ear.
"I…" it wasn't as bad as their parents…Osamu wasn't that bad…right?
Then she remembered something Penthus said in their last chat. "Who knows what he's doing behind the scenes."
What was he doing behind the scenes?
Was her brother just as bad as their parents? The same controlling, neglectful, manipulative parents?
What she was hearing was not helping his case at all.
She had to admit it. No matter how she thought about it, the traits Penthus listed off…it matched. "He…he is…"
"As I said before, if he won't let you work in the prison, just move to another one as a big middle finger. You'll be free this way." he gave a smile, one that she probably needed right now. "I hope you've been thinking it over."
As his hand was placed on her shoulder, it felt like she was pinned to the floor. Just from a simple act.
Then the conversation steered a little.
"So…you said you told him about it?"
Muika was looking a little relieved, both of finally speaking up when her brother came around earlier and the change of conversation. "I…I did."
"And how did it feel?"
Muika had to wonder who was the counsellor here. "It felt…relieving. Like I feel lighter somehow."
The janitor hummed. "Styx should really do something about him, huh?"
"Out of all the problems I hear, I never hear this sort of thing happening at Tartarus." Penthus sighed, "Styx should really follow their example for a change."
Her phone vibrated for the hundredth time that day, or it felt like it. Muika already knew who it was too.
She spied yet more voicemails from her brother, "hey Muika, just me-" she stopped that immediately as Penthus' words bounced around her head as she felt nothing but frustration with Osamu's usual antics that she was put through.
"I think it's time for you to move on from him," Penthus' deep dark voice whispered in her ear despite him not being close at all. "It's time to take your stand, you already told him off and now it's time to live your life. I can help you with that. It's time to stop being controlled, time to stop being manipulated, time-"
The conversation was cut short as the door slammed open.
"What the hell..is happening…?" asked the head cook of Styx as he entered the room as he ran it. "It's pure chaos out there!" the darkish green bug man huffed as he caught his breath.
"Who really knows," the janitor shrugged as he rubbed the back of his neck. "That rumbling earlier could be a part of it."
Myrmex opened his mandibles to sigh. After the unblinking bug-eyed cook gave an exhausting sigh, he rummaged around as he pulled out a small container of food that he had. "It just has to happen on lunch breaks, right?" Myrmex popped open the lid of his gifted pork meals.
Penthus, hair hiding his eyes as usual, turned back to Muika, however he noticed that she was looking straight down.
"Just keep what I said in mind…hey…are you alright?" he asked, but the heavily breathing Muika never responded as she fell with her eyes glowing a bright purple.
Her Psychosight activated once again.
It was chaos. Pure chaos. What was left of the area was a complete mess. It was like someone let loose a bunch of bombs to devastate the area. It only got worse now.
"GARBAGE!" the monster shouted as its spinning drill spun at intense speeds, right as it pierce the armour of a guard, right through their chest, right through their heart. As the heart was impaled on the now still claw, it suddenly opened up, ripping the heart into pieces.
Tossing the useless garbage aside, it focused on the ones that remained, taking a step forward and then-
…it was over. Her Psychosight, uncontrollable as it always was, ended right then and there as it flashed and flickered randomly before her eyes like a movie on fast forward.
As Muika fell to her knees, her eyes glowed brightly at what she saw. Red.
"Muika?" Penthus went to tap the younger Yomaura sibling before she suddenly shot up and out of the room all of a sudden. "Where are you going?"
She never replied as she ran as fast as she could as her vision replayed in her mind.
The co-ed ward, the place where the rumbling took place and what sounded like explosions going on.
In the aftermath of the explosion was the result of a fight!
Chikuha Uneo huffed as she admired her handiwork while a nearby Sora just gathered enough energy to sit up. As soon as the bomber unleashed her bombs, the guards weren't far behind as they stormed in.
"What took them so long?" Sora thought as she had enough and fell back down to the ground as she heard Chikuha cheer.
"...it looks like someone carpet bombed this place." The arriving guards noted how that particular part of the co-ed ward looked after a battle. Once they got on the scene, it was clearly a battle.
"...what the?" another person got onto the scene after the rumbling as one Reiji Maeda looked over the bombarded battleground. "What happened here?"
A small group was scattered around the battlefield, Chikuha on her knees in the middle of it all, Sora on her back as she was still conscious, Anayama over Kirigaku and Sarutobi as if shielding them, Kara and Juro further away as they were on the ground and finally, Fushiko and Nozomi also down for the count.
Though, it seemed some of them were coming around as Juro raised their head like they had a hangover.
Osamu glanced over to an exhausted Chikuha and back to the rest of the chaos that was caused. "Well that explains the rumbling." Before he went to talk with the clones, he turned to the inmate that followed them in. "Reiji Maeda, please stand back. Return to your main ward for the time being."
"Oh!" Reiji jumped as the guard was now looking right at him. "Okay…" he sent one last glance to Juro and the others before he walked away.
Letting out a sigh, Osamu turned to the clones who were already heading in. "We got an injured guard," he said, spying Anayama. "Let's take these inmates to the infirmary and head back to assist the others."
The clones all nodded as they rushed in with the armoured Osamu slacking behind. All day he couldn't get the talk with his sister out of his mind. How she snapped at him, something she never did before. A part of him wondered if she was influenced by an outside source, like Tai or perhaps…anyone really.
"It's like I never left mum and dad!" Muika's voice came out of nowhere, hurting like a bullet, as he shook it away.
"I'm not like them…" he paused, "...am I?"
He was just protecting his little sister! There was nothing wrong with that!
"Siscon."
Sure, there were people like Tai that called him that, but he was no siscon. No way. Yes, he was protective of Muika, enough to throw down with another guard because of it. Sure, Tai sent him packing instantly, but it was to protect his sister. Styx was a dangerous place and she was clumsy, he had to make sure the wardens didn't fire her.
"I'm barely doing my job because of you! I might get fired because of this!"
Nonsense! The wardens clearly understand his on-behalf apologies. He wasn't preventing her from doing her job! Right? He was just doing his older brotherly duty to protect, who cared if outsiders and co-workers called him a siscon, they didn't know their situation.
He was not like their parents. Nothing like that household. That horrible place.
She didn't understand, he was doing this to keep her safe! He would do anything to keep her safe! She would understand one day!
"I immediately get pulled away like I'm too helpless or stupid. You just jump to conclusions when I bring something up! Always laughing at it too! Not taking me or my feelings seriously at all!" the voice returned and it hurt even more. "This is like being back HOME!"
NO! HE WAS NOT THEIR PARENTS! HE WOULD NEVER HARM HER LIKE THEY HARMED THEM!
It wasn't like he didn't give her options or choices! It wasn't like he didn't trust her with basic things! He didn't take any freedom away! It wasn't like he didn't listen to her or take her feelings into account! It wasn't like he laughed at her when she did or didn't mess up! He wasn't trying to control her like their parents!
"..." Osamu stopped dead in his tracks. "My god…"
Was…was he really like them?
…how long? How long was he like this? When did he inherit parts of his parents? How long was Muika suffering because of him?!
"...I…I need to talk to her…"
When this was over, he would sit down and listen for once. He needed to know, needed to talk.
Needed to say sorry.
"OSAMU!" called out a clone and Osamu snapped back to reality as he headed right over.
"Sorry, sorry!" he apologised. "I'll take Juro. Seeing as the rest of them are already halfway out of here."
"...right," one of the clones gave him a look. "Anyways, speak with Anayama there, we'll be taking the others to the infirmary…"
The quirkless guard watched as the clones moved out, taking Nozomi, Kara, Fushiko and the still conscious Sora (who was ready to pass out any second now) to the infirmary. The ones near and with Juro remained behind, stopping in their tracks, thanks to a clone calling out about Osamu doing it. Chikuha on the other hand…
"We'll be taking her to solitary confinement after we get her injuries checked out." one of the clones said as they took the tired Chikuha.
"Wait what? Solitary?! I did nothing to deserve that!" she groaned as she was taken out of the co-ed ward along with the others, leaving Osamu with Juro and Anayama.
The mouthless (on his face) Anayama was still standing over Kirigaku and Sarutobi, easily lifting them onto his shoulders or held under his arm. One each, one for the shoulder and one for under his arm.
"Osamu…"
"Anayama, report?"
"...I went in to stop the inmates from fighting, however Chikuha caused the massive rumbling as I'm sure you felt."
"She really packs firepower when she really goes all out…" the armoured up Osamu couldn't help but sweat at the thought. "You need to meet up with the doctors, I'll take-"
Anayama shook his head. "I'll be taking these two. It's the least I can do for messing up."
Osamu slowly nodded, "understood." It wasn't long before the guard with the mouth in his abdomen walked out the ward as Osamu turned his attention to the other inmate, Juro.
When he took the unconscious Juro (who he swore he saw regaining consciousness earlier) from the clone, he gave both of them an apologetic smile.
"Sorry about that Juro," he threw Juro's arm over his shoulders, starting to carry the exhausted inmate out as the few remaining clones gave Osamu a look. "You guys head over and help the others, I was caught up in a bad place. So let me help out here."
When the clones left, Juro suddenly asked, opening his eyes. "Is he gone…?"
"So you were awake…" the quirkless guard looked down at the inmate he carried. "Wait, you mean Bunri's clones?"
"...Anayama…" they coughed, looking around.
"He's gone, why?"
As the snake eyed inmate coughed, they eventually muttered out. "Anayama…and those two prisoners…don't trust them." they stared into Osamu's red eyes. "They started the attack…they're assassins…"
"What?!" Osamu coughed. "Are you sure? Do you know what you're saying?"
"I do. I'm serious." the look in those snake slitted eyes, they were definitely serious.
Suddenly…
"Osamu, come in," Bunri's voice came in over the earpiece.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"An unknown target related to Limbo has broken out and is headed your way from what we can tell!" the cloning guard warned the armoured one. "Be careful, I have some clones on the way!"
Osamu then saw the look Juro was giving them. "I need to report something too. Anayama…and two inmates, Kirigaku and Sarutobi. Have Eris run a check on them…an inmate says they're the instigators of the attack in the co-ed ward and…insists that they're assassins. Ask Eris to run a background check on them as soon as possible."
When Osamu stopped to think, Limbo existed…and they found out thanks to the efforts of the inmates.
"Actually, make that a high priority. We can't afford any more Limbos."
"Thank you," Juro sighed, though they were confused at that last bit. "Limbos? What is he talking about?"
The older Yomaura sibling gave them a smile. "Don't mention it. Anyways, we need to get out of here now."
Osamu led the former yakuza hitman out of the co-ed ward, right behind the clones that carried the other inmates out, though they had a head start on them.
That's when something crashed into the ground.
As a chilling word echoed out from the site of impact.
"Harvest!"
It was then that Osamu realised that this person was the one Bunri warned him about.
Harvester stood tall as they looked right at the pair, its sudden arrival even caused the further up clones carrying inmates to turn around at the sudden arrival.
"Harvest!" the drone bellowed as its three-taloned metal claw opened and closed, quite menacingly.
As it stared at the two before it, it didn't seem them the same as Koneko. Juro's eyes were a bright orange and the rest of the head was a duller colour before the body was practically grey fading from the dull orange of the head. Osamu on the other hand, was completely grey.
"The inmates here are too injured for another fight. We need to make sure the inmates get away." Osamu thought as he asked Juro, "can you walk?"
"Yeah."
"Can you run?"
"Yes?"
"Good," Osamu removed Juro's arm off him. "Run. I'll take care of this."
Raising his fists as Harvester took a step, Juro booked it. As Osamu was ready to fight, Harvester suddenly took off after Juro!
"Stop!" Osamu called out as he gave chase, only for Harvester to turn their head, stop in their tracks and whip him away before chasing after Juro again.
Osamu landed on his back, grateful for his armour as he rushed to get back to this Limbo affiliate. The clones that began running towards Limbo turned back around as they saw the attacker as Osamu called out to the ones guarding the inmates.
"Get the inmates out of here!" he shouted and the ones with inmates ran off with Chikuha shouting.
"I can take him on! Let me go!" she never got the chance as she was taken away.
Harvester, seeing the other material leave, was about to give chase until it froze on the spot. The one responsible? Juro.
They didn't waste much time as Osamu called out to them to run. The empty handed clones jumped in, only to get whacked away. Sadly, Harvester wasn't pinned for long as the tendril whipped the clones and the escaping inmate.
By the time Osamu got there, unleashing his gauntlet's shockwave, Harvester took the blow like a champ and slapped him away like the clones.
In Harvester's eyes, Osamu and the clones were grey. It only cared for the orange it saw in others.
Juro tried to use their basilisk again as they saw their pursuer gain on them, but the whipping tentacle wrapped around the snake eyed prisoner as the claw opened and closed as it lifted the inmate high. It wasn't long before the claw came in as they struggled. A sudden tight squeeze around the captured inmate, who couldn't even move their pinned arms, kept the struggling criminal still.
"No! Stop!" Osamu shouted as he could only watch as he ran back, firing a shockwave as fast as he could, as Harvester brought the claw over Juro's right eye.
And yanked it out with force.
Juro's screams of pain filled the surrounding area, right as the shockwave hit, loosening the tendril. Osamu was too late to stop the gouging of Juro's eye.
Now with the eye held in the claw in a delicate manner, Osamu rushed in as the clones sent in by Bunri arrived as the clones that were already there, dissipated due to the strong swings that made Osamu glad he had his armour.
Harvester was forced to drop Juro as the clones assaulted them with a barrage of perfect combo attacks as Osamu jumped in, landing a punch on their face, releasing a shockwave in the process.
Harvester, at the first opportunity, jumped back and away from the following attacks and the sound of a mechanical clicking noise came from the attacker's mouth and down went the eye, into their stomach.
When Harvester glanced towards where the other inmates were, they were long gone now. The material the drone was ordered to harvest was gone.
However, there was one that remained.
Juro Raisa.
"Are you okay, Juro?" Osamu asked, offering an apology as he checked the inmate holding their now missing eye.
"It hurts! I thought I could take it out…but agh!"
As the clones hit Harvester, engaged in battle, the drone had trouble keeping up with its multiple attackers. "Bunri, come here!"
"Yeah?"
"Take Juro and run," Osamu then handed the clone that came over the inmate. "Go now, we'll hold them off!"
As the clone ran with the injured purple haired convict, Harvester had a lot of words to say about it.
"HARVEST!"
It wasn't going to let more material and ingredients get away! Not like that other batch moments ago!
First it had to deal with this lot of flies…or risk the ingredient getting away.
So it gave chase to the fleeing Juro, held in the arms of a clone. "Harvest!" it groaned out.
As it chased, it ignored the attacking Bunri clones as Osamu used his gauntlets to get ahead just a little bit and fire another shockwave into the pursuer, sending them back a little bit. It groaned a bit, keeping its eyeless vision on the escaping convict.
That's when Osamu started to notice something.
"Hold on, why are they only targeting Juro and the other inmates?" Osamu thought back on how Harvester tried to chase after the group of injured inmates but was stopped by Juro and how when he tried to buy time for Juro to run, it just chased the inmate. A slow realisation, though mostly a theory, hatched in the quirkless guard's brain. "Are they…only targeting people with quirks?!"
It would explain why it didn't care for him or the clones.
"So my quirklessness bites me in this world yet again." he thought, blasting Harvester back again as a clone gripped onto the tendril, preventing another lashing.
"Quick! Attack!" the clone called out as another did the same to the drill-claw arm.
Punching his armour's gauntlets together, around the wrists of the gauntlets, where the shockwaves were fired, began to glow a dull dark orange. Harvester began to move their arms, but more clones latched on and pulled them back.
Osamu didn't have any super-moves.
He didn't even have a quirk.
The one thing he did have was the gauntlets the armourers made for him. Could he call it a super-move when it was solely from a support gadget? Well, he could always call it something else.
Now loaded, he landed both fists into the exposed chest of Harvester, firing a charged up shockwave that caused the quirk chaser to groan out. As Osamu fired the charged shockwave, that wasn't the end of it. It was only the beginning!
Osamu didn't fire one charged shockwave, which was enough of a technique in of itself, simply called Charged Shock. The quirkless, red eyed guard fired multiple! In a row to what felt like a beat!
SHOCK RHYTHM!
The last shockwave that was fired out of the gauntlets was another Charged Shock, but all the clones let go for the last one as an even stronger shock blasted Harvester away!
As Harvester slammed into the wall as the material it was chasing got away!
For the first time, as it glared (somehow) at Osamu, it finally took notice of the useless quirkless trash! "Garbage!"
Osamu's gauntlets, no longer that dark orange, steamed from the charged multiple blasts. "...still not enough to take you down, huh?" he asked with no reply from the foe.
Now, Harvester's attention was solely on them. The trash it didn't care about.
There was nothing worth harvesting from clones that disappeared and a quirkless guard.
"I better let them know that this guy's targeting people with quirks…just in case that's really it. Why else would they prioritise Juro and the inmates over the clones and…someone who lacks a quirk?" The quirkless guard then reached for his earpiece as his reddish eyes watched as Harvester stood back up and made a noise that sounded like snarling.
With greater speed than what they thought, Harvester barreled through with their mechanical claw spinning as they lunged like a spear.
Osamu, who placed his hand on the earpiece was shoved aside as a clone was brutally impaled on the end of Harvester's claw. "B…Bunri…" Osamu coughed as he landed on the ground.
As he struggled to get to his feet, a clone was thrown and slammed into him, sending back down. The clone didn't last long after that, but one thing he noticed right after Harvester spiked the clone into him was the pain throughout his body.
His armour was reaching its limit.
"Get going, Osamu!" one of the few remaining clones shouted as they managed to knock Harvester over.
Back on his feet, Osamu knew what he had to do.
He had to let them know.
"Come in, this is Osamu. I believe that the target you told me about is targeting people with quirks. They completely ignored me and the clones and went for the inmates! This Limbo associate must be targeting quirks!"
"Targeting quirks?" the original Bunri responded.
"Yes! Let the others know!" Osamu watched as Harvester was knocked around as he took out another clone.
"Will do."
As he was about to ask for backup, the large tendril shot out and whacked the side of Osamu's head, sending the armoured guard to the ground. "Agh…come in…I need backup." he muttered out in pain, the world spinning as he tapped the earpiece.
…
Nothing, only static.
Pulling out the earpiece as he got back to his feet, Osamu just stared at the now smashed earpiece. "Great. Just my luck." he looked up just in time to see another clone get their head crushed by Harvester's foot. It was a good thing they were clones and dissipated upon their deaths, overwise Osamu would be throwing up at some of these sights.
Though, he still might with how brutal they were being dispatched.
Harvester seemed to ooze frustration or probably and more accurately, rage towards them.
Speaking of that, Harvester was coming towards him right now after taking care of the last clone.
The armoured man, practically standing in front of the oncoming figure decorated in multiple belts and chains no one knew about, was being stared at by this eyeless assailant. "Trash." it said, opening its mouth as it lunged at him.
"Uh oh."
His gauntlets were still steaming after the multi hit Shock Rhythm. Still, he had no choice as he charged up his gauntlet and soon landed a punch right after.
CHARGED SHOCK!
As the shockwave coursed through Harvester, Osamu didn't like the sound his gauntlets made. It sounded like it…was breaking.
"...crap." Osamu gave his now broken gauntlet a quick side glance before he saw Harvester go for a kick!
Being sent flying as his armour protected him, rolling on the ground until he came to a stop. Osamu hated it, but he knew that his supplied gadgets would only get him so far. Pushing himself off the floor, a foot sent him rolling again.
As he came to yet another stop, he felt a heavy pressure on his chest, again and again as Harvester stomped down on him. His armour went through a lot and now, it was showing clear signs of damage. In between the stomps, heavy and fast whippings and lashings of Harvester's tentacle slammed down on the breaking down armour.
Osamu Yomaura felt nothing but pain as Harvester treated him like a chew toy.
Harvester's barrage of attacks never ended as Osamu, now fatigued and injured, barely had the strength to stand. Harvester even brought out the claw to hit him with as Osamu was knocked around, even gripping him to hold him in place too!
After a while, Osamu was slammed back into the ground, as the large tendril snaked around the fatigued and downed guard, lifting the red eyed guard into the air. Now around the neck, the tendril cracked the armour as it left a space wide open.
Unable to put up a fight anymore, Osamu weakly opened his red eyes as the armour around his neck cracked more. It wouldn't be long before he really started to struggle with breathing as the tentacle choked him.
The weak, quirkless Osamu saw the state of the prison.
It was chaos. Pure chaos. What was left of the area was a complete mess. It was like someone let loose a bunch of bombs to devastate the area. Which they did thanks to Chikuha. It only got worse now.
"GARBAGE!" the monster shouted as its spinning drill began to spin at intense speeds.
In the eyes of Harvester, Osamu was just useless trash. Useless, quirkless garbage!
Garbage that caused material and ingredients to get away! As it went to pierce its spinning claw right through the quirkless garbage, a voice screamed!
"OSAMU!"
The older sibling turned as he heard the familiar voice, and what he saw caused his half-lidded worn out red eyes to widen. "Muika?"
The spinning drill pierced right through the armour of the guard, however it missed his heart in the process. Blood poured out of the quirkless brother's mouth as blood poured out of the large hole that was now in him as Harvester pulled their bloody claw out of the quirkless trash.
Tossing the useless garbage aside, it focused on the one that remained, taking a step forward and then-
It stopped.
"...Harvest…" as if being told to stop, Harvester turned their head to the side.
"Return, Harvester." a voice played in their mind, as it whispered into their non-existent ear. Releasing an even louder shout, Harvester ran off as Osamu spat out more blood on the ground as he tried to breathe.
Muika ran and nearly tripped on her way to her brother. She was too late, too late to change her vision.
"Osamu!" she cried out. "The result was the same!"
"Mui…" Osamu tried to get the words out as he stared at his little sister, red eyes met red eyes. Yet, he could only see pain in hers, pain he neglected to see. Pain he caused…
He had to say something.
"I…I ha…I-"
"Say your breath, just focus on…on staying alive," she stuttered out as she screamed out for help, trying her best to stop his bleeding.
"...I…I'm…" a hand placed itself on her shoulder, struggling to get the words out.
Sorry.
Muika never heard him say it as the life drained from his eyes.
His hand slid off Muika's shoulder as she screamed out his name. When the others arrived after no contact, this was the sight they saw. In the arms of Muika…
Osamu Yomaura…was dead.
