Spencer slowly regains consciousness. So he's not dead. Cool. That also means there's going to be some awful conversations in the near future. He slowly opens his eyes, thankful that the lights have been dimmed, although a little upset he's stuck in a hospital.
"Oh boy wonder, you're awake!" he hears Gracia exclaim happily and relieved.
"H-hey Ga-Garcia. Wh-where is ev-everyone?"
"Well we've all been given a lot of vacation time after everything and we have been taking shifts sitting here with you so that no one was completely exhausted when you woke up."
"How l-long have I be-been o-out?"
"About five days. Want me to call the team?"
"N-not y-yet. D-did you k-kn-know?" he asks, struggling to get the words out.
"No I didn't. Only JJ and Hotch knew. I'm so sorry Spencer."
"Not yo-your fau-fault. Tha-thank you for be-being he-here with m-me."
"Of course boy wonder. Want me to let the team know now?" he nods and the doctor comes in.
"Glad to see you're awake Doctor Reid. How are you feeling?"
"N-not g-great. W-why can't I st-stop st-stu-stuttering?"
"The stuttering is caused by the concussion you have mixed with the rest of the trauma you suffered. It should go away eventually once you are healed and back to normal. Besides a concussion you have multiple broken ribs, your left leg is broken as well, and you have multiple other injuries, all of them mostly minor. We should be able to release you in a few days."
"O-okay. T-thank you," Spencer says and the doctor nods before heading out of the room.
"The team is on the way, boy wonder," Garcia cheerfully tells him.
"C-can you m-make sure t-that M-morgan and R-rossi c-come in first? I n-need to s-see th-them before t-the o-others."
"Whatever you need, boy wonder!"
Soon there's a knock at the door and Morgan and Rossi both walk in, smiling at the sight of Spencer being awake.
"You are a sight for sore eyes, pretty boy," Morgan says with a chuckle.
"It's a relief to see you awake, kid," Rossi adds.
"H-hi guys," Spencer says.
"How are you feeling?" Rossi says, to which Spencer just shrugs.
"A-are the o-others o-outside?" Spencer asks, causing everyone to at least somewhat frown.
"Yeah. You don't have to see them if you don't want to. kid. We can tell them you aren't ready," Morgan tells him.
"N-no. I wa-want to d-do t-this n-now," Spencer says as he motions for them to be let in. Morgan and Rossi step towards the back of the room as Garcia goes to get the others.
Spencer would be lying if he doesn't admit he almost lost it when the three of them walked in due to anger, hurt, and relief that Emily is actually alive. But he keeps it together for the most part.
"Oh Spence," JJ exclaims as she begins to move towards him, stopping when he flinches away from her hug, which kind of sets the tone for how everything is going to go currently.
She pulls back, a mix of emotions on her face as everyone waits for someone to break the uncomfortable silence.
"D-did you r-really t-think I w-would j-just want t-to h-hug y-yo-you? A-and that w-we w-would s-still be l-like we w-were b-before?" Spencer asks, trying to keep his emotions under control.
"Spence what are y-" JJ starts before Spencer interrupts her.
"D-don't act l-ike y-yo-you d-do-don't know!" he exclaims, struggling to get the words out because of his anger before continuing,"Y-you all l-lied t-to me f-for m-months, a-and k-knew this c-co-could've ha-happened!"
"It was my call Reid. I understand you're angry and you have every right to be, but be angry at me," Hotch says.
"N-no. I'm go-gonna be a-angry a-at a-all of y-you. Y-you k-know t-that Do-doyle told m-me he o-only went a-after m-me b-because y-you and JJ h-have t-too m-many co-connections, so I-I'd be an e-easier t-target. O-oh and th-that's be-because he k-knew t-that y-you b-both knew, a-and b-because I w-was at J-jennifer's s-so much, m-mourning t-the d-death of a c-close fr-friend, h-he a-assumed I kn-knew E-emily wa-wasn't dead t-too!"
"Spencer I-" Emily starts, but he cuts her off.
"No E-emily, I-I'm not do-done. D-do y-you gu-guys even k-know w-what h-he d-did to m-me? Be-because of y-you?!" Spencer exclaims, driving the dagger even further into their hearts.
"Th-those m-months where I t-thought y-you w-were d-dead Emily, w-were d-devastating! A-and then I f-find o-out i-it w-was a-all f-for no-nothing, and b-by D-doyle! N-none of y-you h-had t-the d-decency t-to t-tell u-us!"
"We couldn't tell you," JJ says, tears welling up in her eyes.
"N-no J-jennifer, y-you w-wouldn't. I t-think I've h-had en-enough o-of th-this for the d-day. I'd r-rather n-not l-lie here wh-while y-you t-three c-continue to ma-make e-excuses a-and I'm a-also t-tired. Pl-please l-leave n-now, th-thanks f-for vi-visiting," He says, weakly gesturing towards the door. JJ and Emily quickly leave, trying not to cry. Hotch glances over at Spencer before walking out as well.
"Kid, you alright?" Morgan asks.
"F-fine. D-don't w-wanna t-talk an-anymore."
"Alright," Morgan replies, as Spencer shuts his eyes and quickly drifts off to sleep.
A few days pass and Spencer is ready to be discharged from the hospital, but the team is in agreement that he can't stay alone until he's fully healed. Rossi volunteers to let Spencer stay with him, because it's a large house and gives Spencer room to avoid being smothered by everyone's concern and worry constantly.
Spencer begrudgingly agrees to stay at Rossi's until he is at least mostly healed.
"But why can't I just stay at my apartment? You guys can come check on me and all that when I'm there," he groans.
"Not gonna happen pretty boy, you either stay at Rossi's or at Garcia's and I'm sure she'll be hovering over you constantly," Morgan says with a grin.
"Fine, I'll go to Rossi's," Spencer says.
"Good. Well then let's get going," Morgan says, as he pushes Spencer's wheelchair (Spencer hates that he has to use a wheelchair while his leg begins to heal) out of the hospital.
