Emilia felt extremely hurt. Subaru had not paid attention to her for at least four days now. He would leave the mansion early in the morning sometimes and come back very late. He wouldn't tell anyone where he went.

That day she decided to finally confront Subaru.

"Subaru, I'm sorry. I-"

"Emilia, can we talk later? I've somewhere I want to go right now?"

He didn't seem angry at her, but she was worried anyways.

"No stop! You've not been spending any time with me recently. Subaru, I'm reaaaaallllly sorry, I was unable to go on any dates with you for the past week. But I promise I'll make it up somehow."

"It's completely fine, Emilia. I understand that you have your studies and the meeting with the Lords. The royal selection is important."

He wasn't even calling her Emilia-tan anymore. Why did he stop calling her that? She had just missed three dates with him. So why? He knew how important the royal selection was to her.

"If you know that, then why are you upset?"

Emilia asked him with pleading eyes.

"I'm not upset."

"No you are! You even stopped calling me Emilia-tan!"

Subaru hesitated for sometime before answering, "Why didn't you come to rescue me when I was stuck in Vollachia?"

He asked sadly.

That was the reason why he was upset. Did he think she didn't care about him? Was that why he got upset when she didn't go on dates with him?

If that was the case, Emilia knew exactly what to say.

"Subaru, that's obvious. Because I believed that you would be able to come back safely. You have always done these reaaaaallllly incredible things, so we were all sure that you would come back to us."

"But why? I was alone in another country. How could you even believe that I would come back somehow?"

"Because I love you, Subaru!"

There she had finally said it. She wanted to wait for a better opportunity but she had to say it now.

She was expecting him to finally become happy. He had waited for her confession for so long. With this, he would finally become happy. But instead, he looked like he was in pain.

"Subaru?"

"You don't understand anything, Emilia!"

Subaru was almost in tears. He quickly wiped them and then told her, "Please let me think about it for sometime."

Saying this, he ran away and left her alone again.

A week later,

Beatrice, Ram and Emilia were inside Emilia's room and talking about Subaru.

"He sneaked off again, I suppose. Betty tried to follow him, but she lost him."

"Where is that idiot Barusu going everyday? How dare he ignore and hurt Emilia-sama and Ram's cute little sister?"

"And he still hasn't given me an answer for my confession."

"Pathetic Barusu is hurting Emilia-sama again. Ram always knew he was like that. A useless coward who can't do anything right. The only redeeming thing was his timing. And now, Ram is starting to doubt even that."

Ram criticized him even more until Beatrice got angry and shouted, "How is it Subaru's fault? He waited for Emilia to answer for a year, I suppose. He tried his hardest to get Emilia to come his way. But Emilia did absolutely nothing for him, I suppose. And you can't even wait a week. And now, she isn't even taking him to her meetings anymore."

Ram immediately tried to defend Emilia.

"But she didn't understand love before. He knows that. And he came back safe from Vollachia with Rem anyways. Rem said they didn't face too much problems in Vollachia. And yet, he's behaving this way. Also, he behaved badly and shouted at the Lord of the meeting when Emilia-sama last took him, didn't he?"

"Because that disgusting human was calling Emilia a half-devil! He was just defending Emilia at the time, I suppose!"

"He could have done it in a better way."

Ram and Beatrice argued but Emilia wasn't listening to them.

Is that what Subaru had been feeling the entire time? Being ignored by the one you love.

She was now determined to make it up to him and take him on many many dates. She won't let Subaru run away again. If he was angry at her, she would make him happy again.

Little did she know, Subaru had completely forgotten about her while he was happily spending time with an orange haired princess.
