Summary: Natsu will do anything to make Lucy smile again.

Pairings: Natsu/Lucy!

Author's Note: This is dedicated to Wacko12 who asked for this and I couldn't resist once the seed had been planted in my head.

It had been three weeks since they had won the most exhausting, emotionally battering, battle of their lives, and still Lucy wasn't herself.

Even Gray was beginning to act like his obnoxious bastard self despite losing his Dad again, and Juvia was still her lovesick, stalker-ish, self despite having killed Gray's Dad. But Lucy had been moping, and sighing, and not joining in on the fun anymore, and Natsu knew why.

She missed Aquarius.

God knows why! That bitch mermaid never gave up a chance to try drown his Lucy, but they had never stopped Lucy from loving her, and now she was gone. Sacrificed by Lucy in order to save them all….

Natsu squirmed feeling rather guilty. It took one more look at Lucy's miserable face and he decided right there and then he would do anything, anything, to fix Aquarius' key and make Lucy smile again.

First though he had to steal it.

And that was a nightmare all by itself. Because Lucy, the freaking weirdo, sleeps with her keys and that included the broken pieces of Aquarius' key. Natsu snuck in as usual and tried desperately to find the pieces, almost knocking books and flower pots over. He managed to catch everything in time before they landed on the floor and wake Lucy up.

The floorboard squeaked, and he froze, one foot in the air, both arms failing, as he waited for Lucy to wake up and scream. She didn't. Thank God. But she didn't mumble and roll over in her sleep. A flash of gold in her hand took his eye, and he crept up to her and tried to pull the key fragments out of her hand.

He tugged, Lucy didn't relent on her hold, he tugged some more, she groaned and pulled her arm back, which caused him to topple down onto the bed beside her. Her bed was so soft, so comfortable, and he felt his eyes drift to a close and Lucy's scent was so inviting….

"Natsu," his eyes shot open to see Happy curled up on Lucy, "I thought we were going to get Aquarius' keys."

"Just one more minute," Natsu mumbled as he snuggled closer to Lucy. She smelt so nice and she was so warm…

Hours later he suddenly shoots up as he realised not only had he fallen asleep but Loke's fucking key was poking him in the back (he knew it was that bastard. It always was!). he quickly prised Lucy's' hand opened and snatched the pieces of Aquarius key before shoving Happy's tail in there so Lucy won't realise anything was amiss.

(And to have revenge! The sly furry bastard had his face in Lucy's breasts!)

He first attempted to glue it back together.

That was an epic fail. It was so fiddly and annoying, and the glue was icky, and messy,, and before Natsu knew it he somehow managed to glue his hands together. It took a lot of begging (and he means a lot of begging) to get Wendy to heal him since by the time he got there a near bald Happy had been sobbing in her bed for hours because "Natsu the big meanie set me up so Lucy would scalp me!".

The little lying shit! Natsu would be cross but his second attempt to glue the key back resulted in somehow gluing his hand to Happy (don't ask) and it took one big jerk before he ripped the last remaining bit of Happy's fur.

So Happy was now hiding under a paper bag until his fur grew back and Natsu was keeping his hand in his pocket until he can get rid of the blue fur.

(That lasted about five minutes when Gray suddenly appeared and accused him of jerking off in the guild (whatever that means) and Natsu yanked his hand out to punch Gray only to have the fucking bastard roll on the ground in hysterical laughter….arse.)

So after that failed attempt, he decided with Gajeel being a metal Dragon Slayer he could probably fix it. He turned his big pleading eyes (that always win over Mira and sometimes even Erza!) and opened his mouth to ask when -

"No," Gajeel grunted.

"Why the hell not?!" Natsu demanded to know.

"First," Gajeel lifted a finger up, "I'm an Iron Dragon Slayer that means I eat metal and use it to kick arse, not make pansy shit like keys or bookshelves. Second," another finger came up, "that's celestial magic. I don't know shit about it but I can bet that key isn't made from normal metal, so what the fuck would I know? Third," another finger, "I'm so hungry right now I'm more than likely to eat it," he licked his lips and Natsu clutched the key to his chest. Lucy would kill him if Aquarius got eaten in the same month she was broken. "And finally, and I can't stress this enough, I don't fucking want to."

"But Lucy!" Natsu wailed.

"If you want to fix it then take it to a fucking forge! Don't bring it to me!"

So Natsu took Gajeel's advice and….erm, well….got kicked out. What! He was hungry and the fire smelt really good despite being laced with metal.

So that moved onto his next attempt….

….The less he told you about trying to sew it back together the better. It did not end happily as the cuts on his hands and the shivering Happy would tell you.

Finally he grave up with a roar of frustrated fury and did the best fix it job the only way he could. He then virtually tore the door to the guild building and found Lucy moping over a milkshake. He stormed up to her and shoved the newly fixed key into her face.

"Here!" he barked. "May she make you happy or I'll fucking break her key again!"

Lucy took one look at her key wrapped in sellotape and then suddenly burst out into hysterical laughter.

"What?!"

"Nothing," Lucy giggled, she took one look at the key and keeled over in weirdo, nutsy, laughter again. Her hands clutched her sides and she struggled to return back to normal. Well, normal as possible for Lucy "You just better hope Aquarius doesn't come back or she'll kill you for doing that to her key," she said between tears of mirth.

"Why are you fucking crying?!" Natsu roared. "I fixed this stupid key so you would smile again, not cry!"

She blinked at him. Tears and laughter gone, as her cheeks turned red, her mouth made a weird O shape, and her eyes sparkled with wonder.

She then suddenly leaned in and kissed him.

On the corner of his lips.

"Thank you," she said in a weird breathless voice, her hands brushed his as she took the key, and he felt his cheeks heat up as she pressed it against her breasts, "it means the world to me. Truly."

And then she smiled.

And that meant the world to him.
