YouTube Prompt: A Future Lucy tribute to watch?v=6JR8ZM22pvU from the Tsubasa soundtrack because it has both that mysterious mystic and that sad, character dying, vibe to it which are the two biggest aspects to Future Lucy.
It wasn't until Lucy had been their friend for nine months that they realised they didn't know her surname. It was a typical day in Fairy Academy in which Lucy got her own back for another bucket of water being tipped over her head in favour of tripping Natsu up so he would fall into Erza's breast….face first.
Erza reacted in her typically over the top attempt of murdering all things male and when Natsu finally escaped her clutches, with a black eye….and a chipped tooth….and some fractured ribs…he decided to get his own back on Lucy.
He glared at her menacingly, pointed at her, and then shouted; "I'm going to get you, Lucy….hang on," he blinked dumbly as his hand fell to his side. "What is your surname?"
Everyone held their breath waiting for the inevitable explosion of 'WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW MY SURNAME?! LUCY-KICK!' but instead Lucy kept her eyes down to the floor, played with the strap on her bag, and then suddenly looked up. "Oh is that the time?" she said in a falsely cheerful voice, "I have to go. Farewell!" and she then bolted out of the room.
"Well….." Gray blinked. "That was weird."
"Lucy's always weird!" Natsu rightfully pointed out. "She talks real funny, acts all weird and stupid, and has a really creepy friend in that pink haired girl that keeps bringing us all food."
"Natsu, don't be mean!" Mirajane scolded him. "There's nothing wrong with Virgo!"
"Apart from her machoism," Gajeel grinned, "I'd like to punish her any- ouch! What the hell was that for Shrimp?!"
"For being a disgusting pervert," Levy huffed feeling no remorse for stomping on Gajeel's foot really, really, really hard. "Actually, I think Natsu has a point, Lucy does speak in a rather weird way sometimes. She can be really formal."
"Posh," Jet agreed.
"Really posh," Droy added.
"I feel terrible," Erza said mournfully, "I have been Lucy's friend for nine months and I do not even know her surname! I should have remembered it from our first day! But not even the teachers use it!"
"That is weird," Juvia spoke up having finally been pulled away from Gray by Gajeel, "we all get called by our surnames by the teachers apart from Love Rival."
"It's 'cause she's a total teacher's pet," Gajeel said, "Even Coach Aquarius likes her."
"She tried to drown Lucy just last week," Levy pointed out in a deadpan voice.
"Yeah but she tries to drown the rest of us every day," Gajeel retaliated. "Less drownings is liking for that psycho bitch."
"Lucy is an unusual girl," Freed spoke up, "she is far too intelligent."
Levy sweat-dropped. Freed still hadn't gotten over the fact Lucy beat him in every subject in their last set of tests. He had set out to prove that she had cheated on them because he was so unused to someone other than Levy giving him a challenge, only to be beaten in Latin showdown that even Levy only understood half what had been said.
"You're still sore about that?" Bickslow laughed. "Jeeze, she's a smarty-pants, get over it."
"I think we can all agree Lucy is weird," Cana said, "she's too smart, she keeps having really weird mood swings, and she never goes out and parties with us."
"That might be just because your parties never end," Gray pointed out. "She's been out with us a few times. Even stayed over once or twice."
"AH!" Juvia screamed aghast. "LOVE RIVAL HAS STAYED IN GRAY-SAMA'S BED?!"
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN YOUR MIND?!"
Everyone decided to ignore Juvia's tearful melodramatics and Gray's stroppy temper as they yelled at one another in favour to mull over what Cana had said. "You are right," Natsu grumbled, "she doesn't come out with us all that often, and when she does she never stays out for long. She always rushes off. She won't let me walk her home," he scowled. "I have no idea where she lives though she definitely knows where I live."
"Actually, come to think of it," Erza frowned lightly, "We've never been to her house either. I don't even know where she lives. That isn't right at all! As school council president I should know where everyone lives!"
Everyone but Natsu sweat-dropped at that. Some even considered changing their address so Erza wouldn't barge in and drag them to school whenever they tried to skive.
"I think we ought to find out what Lucy is hiding!" Natsu declared. "As her friends we should know her surname and where she lives, and that's what we're going to do!"
"AYE SIR!"

In true Fairy Academy fashion, they all decided to follow Lucy. This may not be their best idea as Gray, Gajeel, and Natsu kept bickering, and wrestling, and almost getting them caught, as their loud dramatics had Lucy turn round a couple times. Juvia hadn't been any help with her jealousy and melodramatics, Cana almost gave them away with her slightly drunken antics (she had something in a thermal flask that should be used for tea not vodka), and Erza had also almost given them away when she punished the boys for fighting.
Fortunately Lucy didn't catch them and they watched her, feeling mildly bored, as she wander the shops, spent forever in the book shop, and then eventually head out of town. It was when she reached the outskirts some random car parked up beside her and a tall, ugly, old man stepped out. He wore a black suit, with coat tails, had sunglasses on, and very strange, distinct features that made him look like a goat.
A bit like how Mr Taurus looked like a bull.
The goat looking man bowed to Lucy, kissed her hand, and helped her into the car before he got back in himself and drove off.
Natsu seemed to have smoke pouring out of his ears as he turned a bright red and waved an angry fist in the air. "WHO IS THAT GOAT MAN?!" he screamed. "I'LL BEAT HIM UP! JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE!"
"Never mind that, you fucking moron!" Gajeel snapped as he smacked Natsu in the back of his head. "Hurry before we lose track of them!"
That's when everyone outright ran after Lucy. How she didn't notice them chasing after her at that point, nobody knows ("She's weirdly oblivious sometimes," Natsu said as everyone sweat-dropped – he had no right to say that about anyone) but they were able to keep up thanks to the traffic and the slow but steady speed of the car. Eventually it turned round a corner and when they followed they were greeted to the sight of it parking outside of a -
"Oh." Cana said slowly, her eyes almost falling out of her head, "My. God!"
"Well…" Mirajane said weakly. "I suppose that explains some things."
Gray, Gajeel, Elfman, and Natsu's jaws all dropped to the floor. Juvia almost passed out of the shook, Erza's eyes bugged out, Levy dropped her books, Bickslow quit laughing, and Freed looked less composed than normal.
They were all standing outside a fucking gigantic mansion.
"Lucy's rich?!" Gray cried out shocked.
"More than just rich, I imagine," Freed mumbled numbly.
"She must be a millionaire," Levy agreed dazedly.
"Virgo isn't just a weird creepy friend," Mirajane said slowly as realisation sunk in, "she must genuinely be Lucy's maid."
"Wait one goddamn minute!" Natsu roared. "If Lucy is rich then why do I always have to pay for her when we go out together?!"
Everyone stared at Natsu dumbfounded. They had just discovered their friend might be one of the wealthiest teenagers in the world, and that's all he cared about.
"Oh Jeeze," Gray face-palmed. "Anyone want to explain dating to this moron, or shall I?"

Lucy arrived to school the next day half expecting another bucket of icy water to land on her head, Natsu act like a complete arse again, and Erza beat him to death before first class. Instead she came in to find everyone staring at her, they all looked very cross, some like Erza had their arms crossed, Natsu seemed to be pouting, and Juvia was clinging to a very naked Gray.
"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US?!"
Lucy jumped as everyone suddenly screamed at her. Her hair felt like they were standing on end and she was definitely a trembling mess left on the floor afterwards. "Tell you what?" she wailed, terrified for her life.
"That you live in a massive castle," Natsu burst out furiously, "and have servants and are super rich!"
"Eh?" Lucy blinked. "Eh?" she repeated. "EH?!" she screamed. "DID YOU FOLLOW ME HOME?!"
Natsu and Gray both took a few steps backwards (Juvia too as her arms were wrapped round Gray's chest). "Erm…" they sweat-dropped sheepishly.
"Don't be mad Lu-Chan!" Levy came out pleadingly. "We were curious! You tell us nothing." The last bit sounded a bit more like an accusation than a defence, Lucy winced feeling a little guilty. They were her friends and she had told them virtually nothing about herself.
"Are we such terrible friends Lucy?" Erza asked sadly. A strange shine in her eyes that looked suspiciously like tears. "Did you find us so very greedy and dishonourable that you could not be honest with us?"
"No!" Lucy cried out horrified.
"Juvia didn't mean to be a bad friend," Juvia said mournfully. "Even though she calls you Love Rival!" that was when Juvia suddenly wailed and burst into tears.
"Gah!" Gray cried out as Juvia's tears seemed to fill the room. "Juvia calm down!"
"It's not you guys," Lucy said quietly and reassuringly, "Honestly," she stressed at their dubious looks. "It's just…I'm a Heartfilla and-"
"YOU'RE A HEARTFILLA?!"
Lucy jumped again as everyone but Natsu screamed at her again. Natsu instead just blinked, scratched the back of his head, and asked stupidly, "What's a Heartfilla?"
No one answered him as they all stared in shock at Lucy.
"I'm Lucky Lucy Heartfilla," Lucy added bitterly.
"You're Lucky Lucy?!" Cana cried out amazed. "But you're amazing I've read all those articles in the society – ouch!" Cana clutched her stomach after Mirajane gave her a nasty nudge with her elbow. "Erm…." She said a little sheepishly as she realised how upset Lucy was. "I mean, so what? You're still Lucy."
"That's all what I want to be…Just Lucy."
Everyone couldn't help but smile at Lucy's wishful tone. Juvia had to smile between sniffles, Gajeel more or less hid his (he didn't want to be seen as sappy) and Natsu wasn't entirely sure why he was smiling as he still had no idea what a Heartfilla is. "And you are," Levy said as she grabbed Lucy's hand. "To me, you're Lu-Chan."
"A cute bunny girl," Gajeel agreed. "Just now you can buy my lunch, Gihihi."
"Idiot," Levy murmured fondly.
"What I don't understand," Freed spoke up suddenly. "Is why someone as rich as you would want to go to a school like Fairy Academy. After all you could afford a much better education than this."
"Oi!" Gray, Elfman, Erza, and Natsu barked. All offended on the behalf of their beloved school.
"Freed!" Bickslow, Levy, and Mirajane cried out in exasperation.
"I did go to a school better than this," Lucy grimaced, "it was awful. All they cared about was your status, how rich you were, and what you owned."
"I still don't get it!" Natsu yelled making everyone jump. "What's so great about being a Heartfilla?!"
"You're a moron," Gray told him with an eye roll, "everyone knows that the Heartfillas own the railway companies, and the buses, and they've branched out in a lot of other things."
"Trains and buses?!" Natsu squeaked, horrified and a little nauseous. Everyone took a large step back as they all had experience of being vomited on by him now "You own those evil things?! Lucy, I'm sorry," Natsu said solemnly, "we can't be friends anymore."
Any other time Lucy might have kicked him but the moment such a stupid comment left his lips a dark, angry, and quite frankly, terrifying aura escaped Erza, Mirajane, Levy, Cana, and Juvia….it's safe to say that Lucy had to carry Natsu up to the infirmary.
"Idiot."
Natsu merely groaned in reply and clung to her tighter.
Lucy sighed heavily. "I don't know what I'm going to do with you."
"I was just joking," Natsu mumbled, "I wasn't being serious. I still want to be your friend."
Lucy smiled warmly at that. Natsu was her very best friend despite being an arse that likes to set up pranks with buckets of water. "I still want to be your friend too," she said happily.
"It doesn't matter to me if you're rich or poor, if you're lucky, or anything else, to me you're Lucy," he suddenly listed his head up and looked at her directly in the eye. His eyes darkened with intensity and Lucy felt her heart skip a beat and her face flush. "You'll always be Lucy. You're my Lucy and nothing will ever change it."
"Natsu…"
He was so sweet. She had not realised how endearingly sweet he can be sometimes and his words truly warmed her. She suddenly felt herself overwhelmed by affection bubbling from the pit of her stomach to the back of her throat, making it difficult for her to speak, and it was all for him. All for Natsu.
"But from now on you can be the one that pays for our dates."
Lucy thought her head was going to explode she was blushing so hard. "D-d-dates?!" she stuttered.
"Yeah," Natsu blinked in confusion at her, "Gray explained it all to me. We've been dating, right?"
It really is needless to say that Gray ended up in a hospital bed beside Natsu….which was probably the worst thing that can happen as they started to inflict more injuries one another….boys.
But Lucy went home that day with the biggest smile on her face because everyone knew now and it didn't matter.
