Summary: Natsu takes the lyrics to a song too seriously….
Pairings: Natsu/Lucy! And some Natsu/Happy/Lucy friendship.
YouTube Prompt: A Natsu/Lucy video to One Republic's 'Stop and Stare' because the lyrics really fit with their first encounter and several other moments in their relationship where Natsu or Lucy tends to just stare at the other one.
It was a nice sunny day after a successful mission where they got all the reward money (a rarity as Natsu tended to destroy things by sneezing), and so of course Lucy was happy to the point she was singing.
Thankfully, it was not the weird squealing song of 'RENT MONEY! RENT MONEY RENT MONEY!' that came with a jiggle-ly weird dance accompanied with Plue….she did that in front of the mayor much to Natsu and Happy's embarrassment. And Virgo joined in. urgh, what a bunch of weirdoes! No, this time Lucy was virtually bouncing as she walked ahead while she alternated between humming and singing the same song over and over again.
It was really nice and catchy, and Natsu liked hearing Lucy's voice softly sing instead of shrieking, he liked to watch her hips sway even more but that was an entirely different matter….
"Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket," Lucy sang sweetly, "never let it fade away-" she broke off to switch back to humming as she pushed a strand of her hair out of her face.
Natsu looked hard at her and started to think with great difficulty….Lucy is a star. More than a star, she was the Queen of Stars, as she summoned them to do her bidding, and she was certainly a falling star, more than once, in fact he was starting to lose count the amount of times he had to catch Lucy from falling off tall things, like the enemy's tower, or the sky itself, or even out of her own shower (that one got him a Lucy Kick though he doesn't know why.. he stopped her from falling after all!).
"Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket," Lucy sang again, "never let it fade away-" She was in the middle of re-humming the same old lines when Natsu acted on his new impulse. He had to make sure Lucy never faded away after all! "Natsu!" she screeched, interrupting herself, "what the hell are you doing?!"
Natsu ignored her as he kept a steely grip onto her thigh and focused intently on trying to get Lucy's foot into his pocket. "Hush," he ordered her, "I'm trying to keep you from fading."
"What," Lucy hissed in between gritted teeth, "are you talking about?"
"Your song!" Natsu snapped impatiently. "You said catch a falling star, well I caught you many times, and then put it in your pocket and don't let it fade away, well I'm going to put you in my pocket, and I won't ever let you fade away. You hear me, Luce? Never!"
"You're insane!" Lucy cried out. "Let go off me, you weirdo!" she failed about. "I'm not going to fit in your pocket!"
"I have to agree with Lucy, Natsu," Happy said as he hovered above his partners' heads, "You are being really weird, maybe Lucy's weirdness is now contagious like Gray's stripping seems to be? And there is no way Lucy can fit in your pocket, she's too fat!" he crowed the last part gleefully.
"Why you little blue rat!" Lucy growled. "Get over here and we'll see who the weird fat one is!"
"AHHH!" Happy screamed as he flew away. "HELP ME! LUCY IS GOING TO EAT ME AND MAKE ME SICK!"
Several civilians watched, worriedly, as a blue cat with wings flew past, a blonde girl hopped after him screaming threats of murder, and a pink haired boy clung to her leg to entire time as he tried to shove her toes into his pocket, they all briefly considered calling the authorities, unsure whether it was the cat or the girl that needed saving…..
…..but then they saw the Fairy Tail guild mark and merely shook their heads exasperated, there was nothing to worry about after all, it was just Fairy Tail being their usual selves.
