Summary: They were two lonely, very rich, wizards….of course they would have met at least once before.

Pairings: Lucy/Juvia friendship.

YouTube Prompt: A Natsu/Lucy video to 'Time after Time', any cover, because the lyrics so fit them especially the 'when you fall' bit…..that is so Natsu.

Juvia was alone… again.

Juvia was always alone because no one wanted to play with Juvia. No one wanted to play with Juvia because Juvia was the rain-woman (though she was only just six). Juvia was the rain-woman because she was the most powerful water mage in over a hundred years and her tears can make it rain.

Juvia's own family did not like Juvia for it. Some were jealous, some hated rain, and some like her mother just missed the sun.

This made Juvia very sad, and so of course it rained even more.

The other boys and girls she was expected to be friends with, because you could not just make friends in this world of money and finery, you have to make the right friends, did not want to play with Juvia because of this. This made Juvia even more sad, and it rained even more, and then they become really mean to her because they cannot play outside, and then so Juvia becomes even more sad and….well you get the picture.

There was a storm raging on outside now. All the other children had abandoned Juvia in the library and now Juvia was alone, very sad, and rather hungry. She had no idea where to go in this big mansion to find food and she really didn't want to go back to the adults either. Her parents would be angry that she hadn't made any friends.

"Here."

Juvia blinked up to see a sweet being waved in her face. It was a nice looking sweet, wrapped in shiny pink paper, and the girl holding it was very pretty too. She was also in pink from the ribbon in her hair to the frills of her socks.

The girl tilted her head and smiled at her.

Juvia felt her skin prickle. This must be a mocking smile. She had fallen for it before. Some of the other children have done this to her before, and then it turns her teeth black, or they take it away and trip her up instead. Or they use it to lure Juvia into a scary or embarrassing situation.

She had once been locked in a cold, dark, cellar with rats. She shuddered at the memory and was determined not to end up in that situation again.

She slapped the girl's hand away. The girl, stunned it seemed, drops the sweet and it rolls onto the ground between them.

"I…." the girl blinks. "You don't like sweets?"

"Juvia," Juvia said coldly, "does not like being mocked."

"Mocked?" the girl said numbly. "I wasn't-"

"Don't lie!" Juvia snapped. "Juvia knows the truth! You want to tease Juvia and mock Juvia! Well Juvia won't allow you to do so!"

"I-I-I-"

The girl stared at Juvia horrified, her big brown eyes looked rather tearful, and she seemed truly lost for words. It was then when Juvia realised she had blown her only chance to have a real friend because she jumped to conclusions.

Juvia did what Juvia does best. Burst into tears and run away before anything worse could happen. …

"I….I just wanted to say," Lucy said to the empty chair, finally finding her voice though it was too late now. "That I don't mind that you have magic that makes it rain because I have a mermaid key, and we could play together."

She hugged Aquarius' key tightly as tears rolled down her cheeks. Why couldn't Lucy make any friends? Without forcing them into contracts? There must be something wrong with her. There was definitely something wrong with her. No one her age liked her. All those rich, snotty, brats wanted nothing to do with her. She's too weird. She can summon people and make them do her bidding - that was weird. She was too rich, a snob, they whispered hypocritically. She was too smart. She was too….too Lucky Lucy Heartfilla. What an odd child, adults whispered.

None of the children wanted to play with Weirdo Lucy….and there was only so much time Aquarius, Cancer, Crux, and Horologium could spend with her….

She was so lonely.

She really wished she could have made friends with that blue haired mage. They could have had the best of times….

And now she will probably never see her again.

(It will take another ten years until they met again, and it wasn't pleasant, but they eventually became friends and one day Lucy offers a sweet, one wrapped in a pink shiny wrapper, and waves it in front of Juvia's face just so, and Juvia looks up and remembers. They hugged tightly and sobbed into each other's arms, well Juvia sobbed, wailed, and shouted apologies while Lucy just sniffled into her embrace, much to the guild's confusion….Natsu and a few others were kicked and drowned for some of their stupid comments.)
