She looked up the window.
The light had been out for a good ten minutes now and she knew everyone would have fallen to sleep by now. Gray would be stretched out on his blankets, nude (which will of course result in a beating later), Erza would be tightly curled up and drooling, Elfman will still give them nightmares with his face pack, Happy would be dreaming about fish, and poor Wendy and Charle were huddled up against the head of her bed, traumatised and unable to sleep.
Then of course there was her and Natsu. The sneaky git would slink back into her bed the moment he knew she was asleep and won't leave until she firmly kicks him out.
She regrets that.
She regrets everything.
If only she had been stronger, if only she hadn't been captured, if only she hadn't been so uptight, if only she lived every moment fully and to the last….if only she had one more night with Natsu…
"I'll do anything," she sobbed. Tears were now rolling down her cheeks and she shuddered as she desperately tried to keep it all in. she could still make out Macao and Wakaba drinking downstairs, if she was too loud then they would catch her, and then what? She couldn't get caught she….as much as she wanted to see them all, she couldn't cope talking to any of them knowing that they all died and it was because of her. If she hadn't opened that gate then….well she doesn't know, it was still a blank to her, but surely they wouldn't have been so distracted to be killed by the dragons. "Anything," she repeated as another sob wrenched itself out of her throat. "To be in your arms again."
"Oi!" a guard spotted her from the top of the road. There was still a curfew and she was blatantly breaking it. Who goes there?"
She ran away quickly but not without shooting one last look at the window.
Natsu….
Meanwhile Natsu shifted in his sleep, a frown marred his face as a part of him was sure he heard Lucy cry, and he curled tighter against his best friend, burying his nose into her nice neck. "Don't cry, Luce," he mumbled, "I'm here to protect you."
"Meh," Lucy groaned as she snuggled closer to him, "shut up Natsu, I need to sleep," she muttered before snoring a little bit.
Natsu wishes he had that recorded for his argument against her kicking him into the wall the next morning.
After all she invited him, Jeeze. Weirdo.
