Summary: The story behind the picture of the ending for episode 201.
Pairings: Natsu/Lisanna friendship, implied Strauss Sibling/Lucy friendship, Reedus/Natsu friendship, and lots and lots of implied Natsu/Lucy.
Author's Note: Thank you all so much for giving me over THIRTEEN HUNDRED reviews! I can't help but think if you all keep being so generous with your thoughts I'm going to reach two thousand by Christmas XD.
It was bright and early in the morning at the guild building, which of course meant the building was virtually empty as most members were sleeping of their hangovers (or were out doing other things like beating people up (Erza and Gajeel) or trying to write their novel (Lucy) or doing some studying (Levy and Freed)). Natsu and Happy were fully taking advantage of being the first people to order breakfast by virtually ordering everything. Happy had run off with the entire smoked salmon stock and hid himself on the rafters before Lily came in and found him. Natsu had just finished his breakfast while Lisanna tended the bar in Mira's place and Reedus, being the only other person in, was sketching.
"More bacon, Natsu?" Lisanna smiled as she held the frying pan up temptingly. "It's smoked."
Natsu stared down at his empty plate and frowned lightly in thought. Reedus wondered if they would see smoke pour out of his ears soon as his brain worked hard to decide whether or not another plate of bacon was a good idea. "Probably best not," Natsu decided eventually. Lisanna almost dropped the frying pan in her haste to touch Natsu's forehead. "Huh," Natsu blinked dumbly. "What are you doing?" he demanded to know rudely. "Get off!"
"Sorry," Lisanna giggled as she dropped her hand. "But if you're turning down food then you must be either ill or the world is ending."
Natsu flushed a light pink colour. "I think I'm sick," he mumbled.
Lisanna frowned at him in concern. "What makes you say that?" she asked gently.
"My stomach did a funny turn last night."
Lisanna blinked and cocked her head to the side. "A funny turn?"
"Yeah," Natsu mumbled as he absentmindedly scratched his face. "I was talking to Luce, and it did this really weird flipping thing."
"Oh," Lisanna said suddenly understanding. She had a small evil smile that was exactly like Mirajane's when she was matchmaking. "What did Lucy look like?" she asked innocently.
Natsu blinked dumbly at her. "Huh?" he said.
Lisanna rolled her eyes but elaborated anyway. "What did Lucy look like when your stomach did the weird flipping thing?" she asked.
"That's a weird question."
"Not really," Lisanna shrugged, "Just describe it to me."
"Well…she looked like Lucy," Natsu said as if that said it all. Reedus supposed it did for Natsu. "Lucy at her happiest and most peaceful."
Reedus didn't quite know what Lucy looked like at her happiest and most peaceful, but he had a good guess. He had seen her smile serenely at everyone in the guild, when she was relaxing in the corner, book in her lap, her feet up on a stool, and instead of reading she is watching everyone. She watches Natsu the most, and her smile always widens.
Before he knows it, Reedus is sketching her face.
"And what does Lucy look like at her most happiest and peaceful?" Lisanna probed.
"She lays on the bed," Natsu said not really thinking as the words pour out of his mouth like the lava did when he is sick. "Flat out on her back, but her knees stick up a little, and she puts her arms in a really weird position. One above her head, and one out towards of me…"
Reeds sketches faster.
"Oh?"
"Uhuh," Natsu nodded. "She looked really warm, and peaceful, and happy, with her little smile that she does without realising, and her eyes look all big and sweet. And the clothes she was wearing was really, really, really weird."
"Why?" Lisanna asked amused. Natsu thought anything that wasn't what he wore on a daily basis was weird. Especially girl clothes. "What she was wearing?"
"Some weird, pale, green thing," Reedus started going through his paints, looking for a pale green. "With pale coloured stars. They were all silky and…..nice."
"Oh the mint green pyjamas!" Lisanna cried out in realisation. Reedus smiled as he remembered those pyjamas as well. Mirajane showed them proudly as she wrapped them up while Elfman described them as the manliest thing in the world and gotten slapped for it. "We all brought those for Lucy for her birthday," Lisanna said fondly, "I thought the stars would suit her. Does she like them?"
"Yeah too much," Natsu scowled. "She tried to kill me when I almost singed them during my fireball juggling act."
"You did what?" Lisanna screeched. "Natsu! How could you be-?"
"Finished," Reedus interrupted what could have been a very long (and a huge waste of time since Natsu never listens) lecture.
Both Lisanna and Natsu turned to look at him. Their eyes had the same bewildered look in them which was amusing since Lisanna's were a beautiful wide blue and Natsu's were a narrow dark green.
"Huh?" they both said dumbly.
Reedus held up the painting he had been working on for the last couple minutes. It was of Lucy, just how Natsu described her, in her mint green silk pyjamas that the Strauss siblings had brought her, laying coyly on her bed, which Reedus had decided not to paint in as it would be too much effort and there was something more artistic to imply the bed with the shadow of her body and the creases in the white bed sheet, with one hand beckoning to Natsu. Natsu looked at the painting in awe, his face a brighter pink, and his hand suddenly grabbed his stomach again (it must have done the weird flipping thing again), while Lisanna's mouth dropped open in shocked admiration.
"It's beautiful, Reedus!" she cried out. "
"For you," Reedus held the painting out, Natsu."
"For me?"
"Oui!"
Reedus barely got the word out when Natsu suddenly snatched the painting, clutched it to his chest, before sneaking a peek at it, blushed even more as he blurted out a hurried thank you, and then ran off to do God knows what to that painting.
The painting of Lucy had pride of place over the fireplace in Natsu's hut. Not that anyone would know about this because if Happy ever wanted to eat fish again he would keep his mouth shut.
(And Reedus and Lisanna weren't tattle tales.)
