"Dad, you said that we were going to be training." Hazel said.
"I did say that." Nicholas replied.
"And I understand that us two are training with Jaune in order to brush up on our skills, but…" Saphron began.
"Why the hell are we doing a lot push-ups?!" Jaune finished as he raised his body off the ground, and lowering it again.
The three of them were indeed doing push-ups on the ground, sweating as they did so. The sun shining on them ever so brightly, while their father casually sat on a foldable chair with sunglasses on, holding an umbrella in his right hand, and a glass of orange juice with a straw on the other.
The three had been doing push-ups for the past five minutes, and they weren't doing regular push-ups either, they were doing knuckle push-ups.
"Since we may very well be dragged into a war, I want you all to be at your best condition. Especially you Jaune, your determination may be able to enhance you to godly levels, but your body needs to be able to endure it, otherwise the strain would be too much for you to handle. Think of it like kaio-ken from Dragon Ball, except it has actual drawbacks."
"I see… So why is Jade not here?" Jaune asked, grunting each time he completed a rep.
"She's busy resigning from the hospital Jaune, along with explaining why she's leaving." Nicholas replied before taking a sip from his glass.
"Aren't Mom and Sable already doing that?" Saphron asked.
"They're telling the entire town why we're leaving, Jade is just handling the hospital."
"What are we telling them anyway? I doubt that we're just telling them that our family is going to be taking part in a hidden war so now we're leaving." Hazel inquired.
"Basically we're moving to the city because we've always been interested in a life in one, and since Jaune is planning to enroll in Beacon, we might as well move in to the city so that we won't be that far apart."
"I'm gonna enroll to Beacon?" Jaune asked with a surprised look. However, he was unable to keep the excitement off his voice. Could you blame him? He was going to be enrolled to what many people considered to be the best huntsman academy of all time.
"You are now."
"Can we even afford that?" It was Saphron who asked. But it was not without reason, their family wasn't poor but they weren't exactly wealthy either. They made just enough to get by, which was hard enough with ten mouths to feed.
"Let's just say that I pulled a few strings." Nicholas said, his mind wandering to the call he made last night. Ozpin was curious at first, the Arc family hadn't been involved with him in a long time, so perhaps it wasn't much of a shock that the man was a little surprised to hear from them. Then when he told Ozpin the reason why he was calling him, the headmaster was more than willing to help the whole family move into the city and even planned to give Jaune a full scholarship when he was old enough to enroll.
"…So how much longer do we have to do this?" Hazel asked, two minutes having gone by.
"Until I say you can stop."
"Fuck you dad."
"Love you too sweetie."
…
"Come on Jaune you can do it."
"Dad I-I really can't."
"Man up Jaune just do it!"
"I'm at my damn limit!"
"Then just surpass your limits dumbass."
"I surpassed it five seconds ago!"
"Then surpass it again!"
"Use your determination Jaune."
"I am!"
"Then you're not determined enough."
"What do you mean I'm-" Sadly before Jaune could continue, his arms could no longer bear the torture they were being put under and finally folded, resulting in his face becoming very intimate with the ground.
Nicholas sighed at seeing this, before looking at Hazel and Saphron. "Now that your warmups are done-", Jaune muffled curses from his position,"-You two can begin training now, just brush up on your skills first then start working on improving upon it. Whether it's how fast you can do it or how strong you can make it, as long as there's improvement. But don't slack off just because I'm gonna be focusing on Jaune, I'll still be checking up on you two."
"Yes dadd." The two replied/groaned, before going to their separate places to train.
"Now then…" Nicholas finished his drink before looking at his son, who was still face-first on the ground. "Jaune get up, breaks over."
"What… the hell… do you mean-"
"Oh quit being a baby, we're only just getting started after all."
Jaune let out a groan at hearing that, but began to get up from his position. "Can't I train my semblance first?" The boy asked as he slowly stood up, panting all the while.
"I could have you do that, but it's better to train you this way."
"Why?"
"Have you played World War 2 games before son? Or a game with a minigun segment?"
"Yeah why?"
"Then you know that it overheats if you use it for too long. That logic sort of applies to you Jaune, your soul trait, Determination, is strong, very strong, but if your body can't handle its power then it would only harm you instead."
"Wait so I have to use it in short bursts?"
"If you go beyond your limits then yes, if not then you can use it as long as you want."
"I see… so what exactly happens if I go over my limit for too long? Do I just like, feel pain everywhere?"
"Hell if I know. It's been decades since someone with your soul trait appeared Jaune, information on it is pretty much non-existent. Even back then though, the specifics were heavily guarded, the only ones who knew a lot about it were the wielders themselves and very few others. So I guess you'll have to find out on your own Jaune."
"Hmm… if that's the case then how do you know that I have the potential to 'resist death' as you put it?" Jaune questioned, still in disbelief at that particular part. He can believe that his soul trait is powerful sure, but to be able to resist death? Now that is just simply too much.
"Let's just say that the previous wielder of Determination, which was back in the Great War, was said to have fought a… very strong white woman to a standstill in a battle lasted for days and that he uh really refused to die."
"…That's a rather interesting way to put it dad."
"Blame your grandfather. But anyways, we're getting sidetracked, I wasn't lying about how those push-ups we're just warm-ups Jaune, now we're going to have you do a workout." Nicholas said with a very sadistic grin.
Jaune paled, if his dad considered those push-ups a warm-up… needless to say he was not looking forward to what his dad calls a workout. "This is child abuse…"
"Oh you'll be fine Jaune, you can heal yourself using your determination after all."
"I can? But I don't know how to-"
"You'll learn, now drop and give me 100 bicycle crunches."
Jaune sighed but complied, he knew that his dad wasn't joking about the amount. He just hoped that it would get easier after some time. His father did say that he could heal himself with his determination, so perhaps he can also learn that on his first try.
…
"Foolishness Jaune, foolishness." Nicholas said with a grin as he walked around an exhausted Jaune, who was most definitely not whispering curses on his person. The boy had been trying to heal himself for the past two hours as the man tortur- encouraged him to workout and unfortunately for Jaune, he was unable to pull a bullshit beginner's luck.
"Where is your determination Jaune?" Nicholas snickered as Jaune groaned.
"I never should have shown you Reddit and Remtube."
"Would you prefer a classic normal father who knows nothing of the ways of the Remnet?"
"I'm starting to."
"Wonderful. Now then I'm just going to check up on your sisters again, so just… lay there and wait I guess." And with that, Nicholas started walking over to Hazel, who had her left hand hovering over her right fist for some reason.
Jaune sighed as he got into a seated position, his failed attempts to heal himself was a bit discouraging, but he couldn't just start learning everything on the first try could he? Then again he did create his weapon the first try and he did do an aura slash too… but perhaps those were just flukes. Looking towards his right hand, Jaune closed his eyes and concentrated inwards. Moments later, his weapon forms on his hand. Opening his eyes, Jaune examined his weapon, it looks exactly the same as yesterday with threads of aura flowing out of it. However, upon further examination, Jaune noticed that while his weapon had the shape of a sword, it didn't have sharp edges on it.
"Wow, you really learned to create your weapon already huh." Someone said from behind him.
Jaune perked up at hearing this and turned his head backwards, he already knew who it was from the voice, it was Jade.
"Jade!" Jaune got up and walked over to the green-eyed woman, absorbing his weapon in the process, there was no need to waste aura after all. "Are you done resigning from the hospital?"
"Yeah, I am. They were sad about hearing that we all had to leave, but they understood our reasons for it." Jade said, before tilting her head curiously at Jaune. "So is there any reason as to why you were looking at your weapon so closely? I mean it does look kind of weak especially since I think I saw some sort of threads coming out of it."
"No, my weapon is fine." Was it really?
"It's just… well dad had me 'workout' as he put it and-" "What he had you try to heal yourself while you were doing it?" Jade said with a chuckle, Nicholas also had her 'workout' and made her try to heal herself while she did. She learned how to do it eventually, but there's no way he could be attempting the same with Jaune-
"Yeah how did you know?" Jaune asked with a surprised look.
"…Wait I was right?" Surely Jaune was joking?
"Yeah, I couldn't really get it down though so I thought that maybe what I learned yesterday was just a fluke. Thankfully it wasn't." Jaune said, relief evident in his voice. He hasn't attempted to do an aura slash yet, but he was confident that he could do it if he tried to.
Jade was currently confusion 100. Their father really had Jaune attempt to heal himself? But Kindness was the only soul trait that could heal… unless Jaune's soul trait could also do it. Now that she thought about it, Hazel was bitching last night about how his soul trait was 'OP' and how unfair it was. Perhaps there was more to it then she had originally thought.
Regardless, if their father truly had Jaune attempt to heal himself. Then he must be able to do so, he just had to learn. With that in mind… "You know Jaune, I could teach you how to do it."
"You can? Wait, of course you can! You have the only soul trait that can heal after all."
"Well not anymore it seems."
"Actually Jade, Jaune can only heal himself." The two looked to the side, their father was walking towards them. "He can't really heal other people, but you on the other hand can."
"I see, so I assume that I'm going to teach him for now?"
"No, not yet anyway. Today is just going to be a refresher and some light training since we have a flight to catch tomorrow. Now then, you already know what to do don't you?"
Jade sighed, not looking forward to the 'workout' she was about to do. "Yes dad." With that said, she distances herself from the two and began to do push-ups.
"So what am I going to be doing now?" Jaune asked.
"Now, we're going to work on refining your weapon. Summon it Jaune."
With a nod, Jaune did as he was told, his weapon forming at his right hand.
"It's not bad considering you just learned to do it yesterday, but you definitely still need to work on it. See those threads Jaune?" Nicholas pointed to one of many threads that flowed from Jaune's weapon, originating from the crossguard area.
"That's a waste of aura, don't worry too much about it though, with enough training it'll disappear and your weapon will be stronger as a result. But I noticed that your weapon doesn't have a sharp edge, either it was meant to be that way or you made it without the intent to cut."
"I think it's the latter…" Jaune said, unsure of his answer. He truly hopes it was the latter, he really didn't want his weapon to be basically a bat with extra steps, both because a bat wasn't cool and because it would make dealing with Grimm more difficult.
"We'll see. Just absorb your weapon and summon it again."
Jaune complied, and as he was about to summon his weapon, Jaune closed his eyes and chanted within his mind. Make it with the intention to cut, make it with the intention to cut, make it with the intention to cut, make it with the intention to cut-
"Hmm, guess it really was because of your lack of intent to cut huh." Nicholas said, snapping the boy out of his inner chant. When he looked at his weapon, there was already a big difference from before. For one it no longer had a cross guard, but it was more solid-looking than before, there was also fewer threads coming out it , and the blade actually had a sharp edge now, albeit on only one side.
"Yes!" Jaune pumped a fist in celebration.
"Now that your weapon is more refined Jaune, we can start your sword training now." Nicholas said as he walked over to his chair and grabbed Crocea Mors, which was leaning on the right side of the chair.
"You're not gonna summon your weapon?" Jaune asked as he got into a stance, turning his body sideways, with his sword arm forward, and holding his weapon at a 45 degree angle. Nicholas may have taught him a basic sword stance, which required him to hold his sword with two hands and his body forward, but with his soul trait unlocked, his instincts we're telling him to not follow that stance and instead take the current stance he was currently using.
"No, we still need to test your weapon's durability. Sure you may have been able to destroy my barrier yesterday, but that may have been due to your sheer strength." Nicholas replied as he got into the basic sword stance. The man let out a small smile as he noticed that Jaune wasn't using the stance that he taught him and was instead using his own. That was good, it meant that the boy was already following his instincts, and if he continued to do so, would learn more about the powers of his soul trait. After all, their instincts was what taught them the powers of their soul trait and guided them on their usage.
Then, without warning, Nicholas dashed forward with horizontal slash. Jaune wasn't caught off guard though and met it with his own. Nicholas hummed as he sent more slashes towards his son, and as Jaune parried each and every one of them, Nicholas inspected his son's sword as it met Crocea Mors, it wasn't cracking as it went against steel. Good, now to see if it can really hold up against Crocea Mors. Nicholas began putting more strength into his slashes, catching Jaune off-guard as one of his parries failed, Nicholas allowed him to recover before going at him again, putting more and more strength into his slashes.
Jaune grit his teeth as he struggled to deflect his father's attacks, he understood why his father was putting so much strength into his attacks and normally he would be able to parry them all, BUT HE HASN'T RECOVERED FROM THE WORKOUT YET DAMMIT, HIS MUSCLES WERE STILL FUCKING DEAD. Not that his father seemed to care about that fact and probably still won't even if he did tell him, oh well as long as he didn't have him in a blade lock he should be-
Nicholas slammed Crocea Mors down on Jaune's sword, bringing the boy down on his knees and causing him to bring up his left hand to support his weapon, the man didn't relent however and pressed the family heirloom down on him. Jaune's arms shook as they struggled to keep his weapon up and he growled as he summoned all his remaining strength he had left to accomplish it. The two continued their contest of strength, neither one willing to pull back, but slowly, Jaune was beginning to be pushed down.
Shit, a word that was currently being repeated in Jaune's mind as he tried his best to keep his arms up, but was failing, the soreness of the workout was still upon the boy, it was practically a miracle that he was lasting this long. Did that mean that he was about to give up though? Pfft, of course not, his soul trait is Determination for a reason. Regardless however, no amount of Determination could help him right now in his current situation, maybe if he had learned to heal himself he could-
Then, an idea struck Jaune's mind and he smirked, causing his father to raise an eyebrow. Crocea Mors was beginning to cut through his son's blade so he started to pull back, but then Jaune's weapon started glowing and before Nicholas could even begin wonder why, an explosion occurred right between Jaune's weapon and Crocea Mors, causing him to be blasted away up in the air.
Saphron, Hazel, and Jade looked at the site of the explosion, the smoke cloud was already dissipating, revealing Jaune lying on the ground with the top half of his weapon broken. And as for their father- the man promptly crashed into the ground at the edge of the training ground, becoming etched into the surface, Crocea Mors following soon after and landing just three feet away from him. Moments later the man began groaning in pain. The three sisters exchanged looks, communicating with one another silently, wondering whether or not to help the two.
Ultimately, the three had come to a decision, they decided to shrug off what just occurred and continue with their training. After all, explosions are kind of a common thing when their semblance gets involved and none of the two were screaming in pain so they're definitely fine.
After a minute, Jaune absorbed his broken weapon and began to get up, his body protested as he did so, wanting to embrace the ground once more, close his eyes, and dream of reading the final chapter of Lookism. Truth be told, Jaune very much desired to do that as well, but he had to do something first, something far more important.
Nicholas was currently contemplating his life choices as he realized what it is that his madman of a son just did. He performed an aura slash at point blank range. Where the hell did he go wrong for Jaune to decide that that was a good idea? Perhaps when he recommended Bleach to him, come to think of it, wasn't there a scene where one of the characters there did something similar to what Jaune pulled?
Sounds of footsteps halted Nicholas's train of thought, and when looked up to see who it was, he promptly laid his head back down and sighed.
"Why… would you do an aura slash at point blank?"
"Cause you were being a sadistic child abuser."
"I was just testing your weapon's durability!"
"Did you have to go that hard then?! My muscles were still sore from doing the workout!"
"And? That's good! You're learning to fight when you're exhausted!"
Jaune growled at his father's stubbornness, but he soon calmed himself, he would have his revenge. Right now, of course. He then began walking to the Nicholas-shaped hole, until he was right next to his father's head, who raised an eyebrow at him.
"Foolishness father, foolishness." Nicholas froze, Jaune grinned.
"Where is your perseverance now father?" Jaune only lasted a few more seconds before laughing, his father groaning as he did.
Jaune solemnly sighed as he placed his PC carefully in his hard-shell luggage case, with a few of his clothes placed first at the bottom to act as a cushion. Now that he had begun to pack his things for their flight tomorrow, it was hitting him now that they were truly leaving Ansel. Which meant that he was also going to leaving his friends behind, he didn't have much friends admittedly, but he was going to miss his best friend here the most. He had stuck by his side even when he was being bullied at school, how could he not miss him honestly?
Nicholas originally wanted to continue training after their little mishap, most likely because he wanted revenge, but Jaune was quick to remind him that they we're only supposed to do light training today and still have to pack their things. The man grumbled like a child being denied in a candy store and begrudgingly dismissed the boy to allow him to pack his things.
"Damn, you guys are really leaving huh?" A voice said, causing Jaune to turn to the doorway of his room. There stood his best friend in Ansel, gym buddy, and gaming pal, Kurt Tomo.
"Well unless my family decided to just pull a harsh prank on everybody, then yes we really are leaving." Was Jaune's sarcastic reply, but he knew that Kurt would easily see through it for what it was, a cover-up.
That didn't mean his friend was going to call it out though. "Well shit man, now I'm gonna have go to the gym by myself and not have anyone to spoil webtoons to." Kurt said as he took a seat on Jaune's bed.
Jaune snorted at that whilst he placed clothes on top of his PC. "Oh you'll live without anyone to spoil I'm sure, it's the gym part I'm worried about. You better not stop going to the gym just because I won't be here anymore boi!"
"I don't know man, going to the gym alone is hardd."
"Bitch, I'll end up being more muscular than you if you don't." Jaune said as he squeezed in socks on open spaces left in the case. He wasn't going to take chances when it comes to his pc.
"Don't you have that aura thingy already? You're definitely going to end up more muscular than me anyway."
"I still have to workout to gain muscles." Jaune said as he finally closed the case and zipped it.
"My point still stands, by the way aren't you going to bring your monitor and shit with you?" Kurt said as he pointed at the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, on Jaune's desk.
"Nah, too much of a hassle. I'll just ask for new ones when we arrive in the city."
"You guys are real rich huh, moving into the city all of a sudden, and I heard you were going to be enrolled in Beacon as well. Now you're also gonna ask for a new monitor and shizz."
"We're not rich man, my dad said that he just pulled a few 'strings' as he called it to be able to afford a house in the city along with enrolling me to Beacon in the future."
Kurt rolled his eyes at that. "Sure, sure, call it whatever you like boi. I'm still gonna call it as I see it. So, Beacon huh? I heard that all huntresses are nothing short of models, so you got something to look forward to eh?" It was kind of true if one would think about it, all huntresses in magazines and TV were good looking in some way. Even the few ones that Kurt personally met were pretty, which was Jaune's sisters, but there's no way in hell he was going to tell that to Jaune.
"Really? I'm sure there are some huntresses that aren't necessarily good looking." Press X to doubt.
"You'll be the one to tell me man, you're the one enrolling in a huntsman academy after all."
"I think you're being too excited about this, I'm still 15 dude. There's still going to be 2 years left before I can enroll into Beacon."
"Oh yeah…"
Silence took over the room as Jaune quietly start to pack his clothes in another luggage. A minute having gone by before Kurt asks.
"So what're you going to be doing in the mean time anyway? A training arc or something?"
"…You motherfucker."
"Wait I'm right?" Jaune glared in response, causing his friend to burst out laughing.
"This is why we can't have nice things Kurt."
"Sorry man, it just popped into my mind." His friend's grin spoke volumes of just how sorry he was for that unintentional pun.
"I'm sure it did, just as I'm also sure that you won't be missing Lavender anytime soon." Kurt's grin died.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Jaune snorted at that. "Oh cut the bullshit boi. I see the way you look at my sister, she may not notice it but I do." She too had a crush on him, but he wasn't going to tell him that. Best for the two of them to realize it by themselves… unless it was taking too long for them to find out, then he would step in.
"Darn… So I guess I'm supposed to stay away from her now?"
"Bruh, do you really expect me to pull an over-protective brother cliché? Besides, we're moving out tomorrow anyway, if anything I'm gonna encourage you to hang out with her while you still can."
Kurt blinked, his face shifting into a disbelieving one. "Really?"
"Yep."
"You're not gonna kill me for hugging her or anything?"
"As long as she's fine with it, then you're good."
"I see…" Kurt stood up and took a step towards the door. "So can I…?"
"Man, go if you want to, you don't need my permission for this." Knowing that he had his friend's approval, Kurt walked out the room and made his way to Lavender's.
Jaune sighed in exasperation, honestly did he really have to ask that? He better not start asking him permission for every little thing now.
As Jaune went back into packing his clothes, he realized something. His other best friend was also in the city, and they were still pretty close because they often chatted with each other through Rembook about anime and manga. His friend moved into the city last year, apparently he enrolled into art school because he wanted to be an animator. Maybe they could finally meet each other again after all this time.
Taking out his scroll, Jaune tapped it several times and accessed the Messenger app.
TheMC: yo boi guess what
QuietSometimes: i will not guess anything until u change your nickname
TheMC: what's wrong with it?
QuietSometimes: it's cringe, naming urself the main character is very cringe boi, change it

Jaune Arc changed his nickname to PlotArmorIHave
PlotArmorIHave: happy now?
QuietSometimes: still a bit cringe but it's better than before I guess, so what's up?

QuietSometimes: nice pun
PlotArmorIHave: kill me, but anyways, is there anything I should expect when we get there?
QuietSometimes: expect a concrete jungle
PlotArmorIHave: really boi?

PlotArmorIHave: i see, welp sadly i still have to pack my clothes n shizz, soo… later
And with that, Jaune pocketed his scroll and continued packing his clothes. Letting out a small smile now that he at least had something to look forward to for when they arrive in the city.
…
"I wouldn't want to intrude sir." Kurt said as he stood in front of Jaune's father, Jaune himself standing right beside his friend and his sister, Lavender, beside Nicholas.
"First off, drop that sir bit. And second, you're Jaune's friend, and Lavender's as well right?" Said girl meekly nodded, sporting a tiny blush that no one noticed.
"So it's okay for you to stay for dinner, we're leaving tomorrow as well so I insist, just call your parents and tell them you're staying for dinner. I'm sure they'll understand."
"A-Alright then." Nicholas nodded upon hearing that and walked off, heading into the kitchen area.
"Your dad is scary Jaune…"
"He's not that bad." Lavender defended.
"Yeah he's not scary at all, if anything, he's a certified child abuser." Jaune ever so casually said.
"Jaune!"
"What? You saw me when I got back from the 'light training session' Lav, my clothes had to be thrown out cause they were too badly damaged!"
"Dad told us why you were in that state Jaune, so if anything it's your fault that your clothes got ruined." Lavender retorted as she crossed her arms at him.
As the two descended into an argument about who was truly at fault, Kurt walked off to the side and pulled out his scroll, he then started a call with his mom.
"Hey mom, can I stay over at the Arc's for dinner?"
"Huh? Well… if they're fine with it then you can."
"They are, thanks mom love you." Kurt then pocketed his scroll, and made his way back to the arguing siblings.
"What ever happened to the Lavender that used to hide behind me every time we want out and always asked to be carried?"
"What ever happened to the Jaune that used to always play with his sisters and wore dresses that they picked out?"
"Yo what, I need to hear about this!" Kurt exclaimed with a growing grin on his face.
"No you do not! Forget you heard anything!" Jaune said as he went pale, Kurt absolutely cannot find out about his dark past!
"Sure Kurt, let me give you the deets!" Lavender cheerfully said with a smile.
"Lav!"
Coral was having a pretty good day so far. Sure they were going to be leaving Ansel tomorrow and were supposed to be doing some sort of hang-out with friends and all that sad stuff, but Coral honestly couldn't give a shit. For one, she has pretty much no friends in Ansel, only her family.
Most people her age back in high-school had not been all that willing to make friends with her due to being 'weird' as they called her. When the others found out, Hazel was quick to, as she put it, 'throw some motherfuckin hands' with her classmates and was on her way to do just that. Fortunately their father was able to put a stop to it… well stop as in restrain the girl with ropes made out of purple aura and Hazel trying her best to beat Goku in terms of screaming as she struggled to break free. Their parents ultimately decided to just report it to the school and hope for the best, the others were understandably not too happy about that but they begrudgingly had to concur. Responding with violence or some other form of it would only make her situation worse than it was, of course she had also understood that fact back then. If only understanding it made it any easier to go through.
But nonetheless, her point is that she wasn't sad as the others were. If anything, it was an opportunity for her to finally make some friends and meet up with her online ones. Who were her online friends you may wonder? Why her fellow writers of novels of course! She wasn't all just doom and gloom back then, she wrote some stories in her past time since her imagination was wild back then, still is honestly, and it was only boosted by her family occasionally having bonding sessions involving anime. Some of which caused some small arguments, like who was best girl in Gotoubon, or why Rimuru is best girl.
Rimuru in fact best girl aside. Her twin, Sable, once caught her writing one of her stories on her notebook and asked to read it. Coral was very hesitant and nervous at first, saying that what she wrote was amateurish and was only going to make her cringe and regret it for the rest of her life, but Sable insisted and Coral reluctantly handed her the notebook. What happens next will shock you- It was actually pretty good and Sable hyped Coral's ass up. Coral of course had massive doubts, claiming that Sable only said that because they were sisters. Sable was quick to deny that and said that her work was truly good, and that if she doesn't believe her then she could post her story online under an alias to see for herself. Coral, determined to prove Sable wrong, did as she said and was proven wrong herself a week later. Many people had read her short story and said it was good, there were flaws yes but still good nonetheless.
And now she was an official novel writer, with 3 novels under her penname 'Genderless Girl' and making online friends with other writers. Only Sable knew about this, and she encouraged Coral to tell the others. Coral of course said no, but also said she would do so when one of her novels made it big. She was working on her fourth novel, and progress was unfortunately slow but she was determined to continue writing it.
So today was indeed a pretty good day for her.
"Coral it's time for dinner." Her mother called out from below. Coral saved her work before closing the file and making her way downstairs.
…
"Jaune what's wrong?" Nicholas asked as his son was brooding for some reason.
"Don't wanna talk about it dad…" Kurt and Lavender chuckled, sharing a knowing look between them.
"Okay then… So did everyone get to spend time with their friends today?" Nicholas asked, earning a chorus of 'yes' from his most of his daughters and an 'I have been betrayed' from Jaune.
"Very good, so we're moving into the city tomorrow and you all are probably wondering where we are moving to exactly. And the answer to that is…" Nicholas paused for dramatic effect as everyone went silent, all attention focused on the man. "I don't know lol."
"Nicholas I will castrate you!"
"What does castrate mean?" Amber innocently asked, earning her a pat on the head from Saphron. The smol child hissed as she tried to remove the hand that was invading the top of her head.
"You don't need to know yet Amber."
"Your family's a real riot man." Jaune could only helplessly sigh in response to what his friend said while Lavender just chuckled nervously.
"Calm down honey, Ozpin says that he'll us the details of everything when he arrives tomorrow." Kurt's eyes widened upon hearing the name Ozpin.
"Ozpin? As in the Headmaster of Beacon?"
"The very same."
"And he's coming to personally escort you guys?" Kurt asked in awe.
"Well, let's just say me and him have a… history of sorts." History being that the Arc family forced Salem to sit the fuck down during the Great War.
"You guys must be real important then…" Kurt muttered, now seeing the Arc family in a new light.
"So does anyone have any questions?" Amber raised her tiny hand. Nicholas sighed but decided to indulge the girl. "Yes Amber?"
"When can my aura be unlocked?"
"Never." Was every Arcs' immediate response, startling Kurt in the process.
"But why?" Amber whined and pointed to her blue eyes. "My soul trait is already showing see? So why can't my aura be unlocked!"
"Because you're just so cute and innocent Amber." Juniper said as she scooped up her smol child and began to rub her face on hers, causing Amber to make gremlin noises as she tried to push her mother's face away. The others nodding in agreement. "And since you're so cute and innocent, we have no choice but to protect you!"
"No fair! I want to be a kickass huntress too!"
"So exactly what time do we leave at?" Jaune asked.
"At 9 am."
"Isn't that rather early?" Jade inquired.
"Ozpin really wants to get us to the city as soon as possible, hell we're lucky I managed to convince him to make it at 9 am and not today."
"You guys must be really important if the headmaster is willing to go that far." Kurt said.
"Ah well, let's just say that there was a… recent development that really required his full attention."
Everything after dinner had passed by quickly for Jaune. Escorting his friend home, falling asleep, instantly waking up at 7:30 am, eating breakfast, taking a bath, putting on proper clothes, carrying his luggage and Amber's, then finally arriving at the landing area in Ansel. All of it had been pretty much a blur to him, but when Jaune saw an airship steadily coming closer to them…
"Uh… dad, is that our ride?" Sable asked, there's no way it was right? They were just 10 people after all, surely the headmaster of Beacon wouldn't bring out an entire airship? Maybe there were also passengers in there? …Who was she kidding, there was no way that so many people would suddenly want to go to Ansel that an airship would be needed to transport them.
Nicholas sighed as he rubbed his forehead. "Knowing Ozpin, that man would actually pull something like this. Still, I really thought that it would just be a large bullhead."
"I think we all thought that way dad." Hazel said.
"This is so cool! Hey Jaune do you think they have lots of rooms there and a pool?" Amber excitedly asked Jaune as she pulled his arm.
"Well I'm not sure about the pool part but I am sure that there will be plenty of rooms." Which should be a given since this was an entire airship brought all the way here just to transport 10 people.
"Oh I can't wait to get on it!"
Jaune chuckled at Amber's enthusiasm, and honestly it was beginning to infect him as well. But sadly he would have to make that enthusiasm die down a little. "Calm down squirt, even when we do get on it, it's still going to be pretty boring since there's definitely going to be no TV or any games on the ship."
"Aww." Amber pouted, almost making Jaune regret his decision. But it had to be done, they did not need an excited Amber running around the airship. Now they just have to wait for it to arrive.
…
"I don't even know why this is a debate, have you guys seen how cute and precious Miku is? She is obviously best girl." Jade said.
Most of the Arc family is currently having an argument on who is truly the best girl of Gotoubon. How did this happen you may wonder? Who knows really, just blame the airship for taking its sweet time to get to the landing area.
"Jade we can't just decide who's best girl based on their cuteness and honestly Miku is just way too shy." Jaune said. "Now Nino on the other hand is just amazing. She's not afraid to show her affections for Fuutarou and openly flirts with him! Not only that, she also confessed to him, TWICE. How many tsunderes, or even a normal anime girl, do you guys know would confess again after the MC pulls an 'Oh sorry I didn't hear you' cliché? That's right, NONE. Only Nino does that! And so with all these facts presented, I hereby declare that Nino is best girl!"
Jaune's argument earned him murmurs of agreement from many of his sisters. With Jade giving him a glare and a 'tsk', while Amber was just playing a game on her scroll because she didn't really understand what they were arguing about.
However, there was still one challenger left, and that challenger is no ordinary one either. That challenger… is a novel writer.
"You make some very good points Jaune, but unfortunately, I must disagree." Coral said, before doing a forbidden move, she pushed her glasses up. "I say that Yotsuba is best girl. Because if you guys actually think about it. Yotsuba was willing to sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of her sisters' own happiness and supported Fuutarou from the very beginning, even when he didn't recognize her. So she is actually best girl."
Jaune cursed, the others were agreeing with what Coral said and the worst part is… she's right. The fact that Yotsuba was willing to put her sisters ahead of her herself, does make her the best girl. But still! Nino had so much development and became the second best tsundere because of it, the number one being Rin of course.
"Well Jaune?" Coral said, snapping Jaune out of his inner monologue. "Who is best girl now?"
Jaune glared at Coral's condescending smile, wanting nothing more than to wipe it off her face. "The best girl is…"
Coral's smile grew wider.
"Nino!" Fuck Yotsuba's selflessness and support! Nino is still best girl of Gotoubon to him, and nothing will ever change that!
NANI?! Coral almost blurted out in shock. Keyword being almost, as their parents spoke first, preventing/saving Coral from saying something that she would most likely regret for the rest of her life.
"Enough banter children, the airship is finally here." The airship has indeed arrived, drawing everyone's attention to it as it slowly landed. Then, a pathway extended from the entrance of the ship, stopping once it hit the ground in front of the Arc family.
"…So do we just go in?" Sable asked.
"Well unless we all want to wait for a royal escort along with some red carpet. Then yes, we do just go in." Nicholas said, making Sable pout as they all walked up the pathway.
As soon as they entered the ship, the entrance began to close behind them. A silver-haired man holding a cane and a stern-looking blonde woman stood in front of the unmanned reception table.
"Nicholas, it is good to see you." The silver-haired man greeted.
"You as well Ozpin, and I see that you brought Glynda with you as well." Nicholas said, nodding towards the blonde woman, the woman replied with a nod of her own.
"There is a reason for that, but first we should get you all settled in. Glynda, could I ask you to lead the family into their separate rooms? Nicholas and I have much to talk about."
Glynda sighed but complied, gesturing towards Juniper and the others to follow her. "Your rooms are this way Mister and Misses Arcs."
Glynda then guided them to the right side of the reception area, which led to a hallway.
"Thank you Glynda." Ozpin said as they walked off.
"Do we all get out own rooms?" Amber asked excitedly as Glynda walked them through the ship.
"Yes, but do not worry, your rooms are close to-"
"That's great! Hey, how big is our rooms? Are there any TV's around? Are there any toys around too? Oh! And what about a pool, is there a pool here? Jaune says there isn't one but I'm sure there is one just hiding somewhere!" Amber's quest to ask all possible questions did not stop there, and Glynda was starting to get worried.
"H-Hold on child, just one question at a time." Glynda said in an attempt to calm the child, or at the very least get her to slow down. Alas, the child had nothing but a deaf ear for the woman.
Juniper sighed as her daughter didn't even seem to hear what Glynda said. "Please ignore my daughter, she's just a bit excited is all. Especially since this is the first time she's ever been on a ship."
"Such a severe understatement…"
Meanwhile with Ozpin and Nicholas, the two went to the left side of a reception area and walked into what seemed to be a lounging area.
As soon as the two of them sat down, Nicholas immediately shot off with a question.
"Why did you really use an airship to transport us? A bullhead would have been much faster and more discrete, not to mention the amount of people required to pilot this ship is definitely way more than the amount of people that know of our little war with Salem."
"Simple, to spoil your children."
…What?
Nicholas struggled to comprehend what Ozpin has just said to him, even causing him to move his hand in a sluggish manner to merely rub his forehead. Spoil his children? What in the Kentucky Fried Fuck? That answer is just… unbelievable. Not a single one of his brain cells thought of an answer that had come even slightly close to hinting towards the one that Ozpin just gave him. It was honestly giving him a headache as he tried his best to process the fact that Ozpin said that he brought an airship all the way to Ansel just to spoil his kids, and the personnel running the ship… did-did they really know of their Headmaster's intentions?
Nicholas's confused pained face caused the Headmaster to straight up laugh shamelessly, to the point that tears were starting to build up on the corner of his eyes as he laughed, causing Nicholas to glare at the man.
The PA system of the ship then stuttered to life, drawing the attention of the two. "Headmaster Ozpin and the honorable Arcs, the ship is now lifting off the ground and we will now be beginning our flight to Vale. I repeat…"
"Honorable? Wait a minute, is that Oobleck?" Nicholas asked as the ship began to lift off the ground.
"Yes, I brought here due to his knowledge on piloting a ship such as this. All the personnel here are a part of Beacon, but they do not know of our war with her, only Glynda does. I have only told them that this is a sort of training exercise to improve their piloting skills… and to pick up the family responsible for winning us the Great War."
"You honestly give us too much credit for that."
"Is that so? Well I believe that I'm not giving as much credit as I should be. Understand Mr. Arc, that not only had your family greatly contributed to the war, winning us some important battles, your Great-Grandfather also prevented Salem from fully entering the fray."
"Still, that was my Great-Grandfather that did that, not us."
"How stubborn, honestly, is it a trait of you all Arcs to be so humble? Practically saving mankind from extinction and your family acts like we shouldn't owe you anything."
"Once again, that my-"
"Yes, yes. That was your Great-Grandfather's doing." Ozpin sighed. "Moving on from that topic, you no doubt wonder what I meant by spoiling your children yes? Then I shall not lie to you, I am trying to get on your children's good side."
"Starting to sound like you're after our power Ozpin…"
"That's because I am. Especially more so since your son has the Determination soul."
"Was it that obvious?"
"He has red eyes after all."
"Ah… Wait hold up, you just straight up admitted that you're after our power."
"I owe your family much Nicholas. The least I could do is be honest with my intentions. Do not worry however, for I do not plan to use your family's power for my own personal gain, rather I intend to use them for the war against Salem."
Nicholas sighed upon hearing that, this was what he was most afraid of. "Listen Ozpin, the moment Jaune's eyes and aura turned red, was the moment you already had me and my family's support. But I just don't know how much more we can help with right now, Salem's immortality is something that even we can't deal with."
"Other than matching it with your own immortality you mean." Ozpin replied with a smirk.
Nicholas rolled his eyes at him. "You know full well that only wielders of Determination are capable of doing that Ozpin, and I'm not willing to have my son try it out either." At least not as he is right now.
"I wasn't planning to anyway, I could never ask you or your son to risk trying that. What I am thinking of however is…"
It had only taken them two hours to arrive at the city, Ansel wasn't that far after all, and they were all currently in a bus with only the Arc family and Ozpin being the passengers. Glynda having left to attend to her duties in Beacon.
"Mom look! Another arcade! We have to visit them all mom!" Amber said as her face stuck to the windows like glue whilst she tugged on her mother's arm.
"Oh don't worry sweetie I'm sure that your father would be more than happy to take you." Nicholas's startled look said all about how 'happy' he was.
"Yay!"
"But honey we have to start training right away-" Nicholas started, only to stop immediately at his wife's raised eyebrow.
"Are you saying that training is more important than spending time with family, Nicholas Arc?" Spending time with family his ass, she just didn't want to take Amber to the arcades! The man looked around for help and found none, all his children looked away from him and Ozpin was just ignoring him while he sipped from his mug. Where the hell did he even get that from?
With no help in sight, Nicholas surrendered to his fate. "Fine… I'll take Amber to the arcade."
"Whipped." Ozpin muttered under his breath.
"That's so damn rich coming from you."
…
"Ozpin, what the hell is this?"
"This, Nicholas, is your family's new house."
"Really?" Hazel asked, hesitance and doubt evident in her tone. None would blame her for it.
"Truly."
"But it's so… big."
"Understatement of the century."
"Surely, you must want something in return right? This is just simply too much for us to accept without payment." Juniper said.
Ozpin waved it off. "None at all. The most I can ask is for, is your family's continued support in defending the city of Vale."
"Well we can pay for the electricity and water bills at least."
"Oh, do not worry about that."
"Ozpin there is no way you have enough influence to make us not worry about paying bills."
"Don't worry I don't. Because the Vale council are the ones paying for it."
"WHAT?" The entire Arc family, except Amber, shouted.
"Yes, this is their way of saying thanks for your family's effort in the Great War."
Nicholas sighed, bringing a hand up to rub his forehead. "You all are practically forcing us to live off our past glories…" Ozpin could only shrug at that.
"Is there a pool?!" Amber asked, practically shaking in excitement as she struggled to hold herself in place.
"Yes, it is just right behind the house."
Instantly, the entire Arc family lunged at Amber. Catching the poor girl before she could even take a single step.
"I got her! I got her!" Hazel said as she brought the child high up in the air, her limbs flailing around uselessly as she tried to escape her captor's grip.
"Let me go!"
"Nice!"
"Good job Hazel!"
"I have never been more proud of you than I am right now." Nicholas said with a smile.
What a strange family, Ozpin thought to himself.
"If that will be all, I shall be on my way now." Ozpin said, before he turned around and made his way back to the bus.
"Hold on Oz-" Nicholas tried to stop the man, but the Headmaster only just waved a hand towards him. Right as he was about to enter the bus, Ozpin paused as he remembered something…
"Nicholas! There is an indoor training hall underneath the house, the entrance is at the back!" With that said, Ozpin finally entered the bus, the door closing behind him as the vehicle rode off.
"…Such a stubborn man." Juniper said.
"Kinda reminds me of us." Nicholas admitted with a gruff.
"We're not that stubborn." Saphron tried to defend, earning her deadpan looks from everyone. "…Okay, maybe we are."
"Regardless." Juniper sighed as she turned to their new home, a medium mansion with metal fences surrounding it. "…It seems this is our new home now." This time, she said it with a smile.
A bit of a long one this chapter is… I'm so goddamn proud of myself right now.
