A/N: Ok everybody, I've finally crawled out from under my rock! So so sorry about the long wait, getting married and dealing with everything kept me a little busy than I thought it would, and I had a really tough time with this chapter for some reason. It's not quite as good as I wanted it to be but I think you'll all enjoy it...or form a mob to hunt me down...but it is a fairly long one at least! I'm already working on the next chapter and since we're finally getting into the actual plot it hopefully will be easier to write.
There are multiple POVs in this chapter since everyone has a very important part to play.
Disclaimer: Stephanie Meyer owns everything, I just play with the characters. Nor do I own the song, I just fit it into the story.

You Don't Know Her Like I Do
Part 2
Seth wandered through the woods near Jacob's house, ignoring the still pouring rain that hadn't let up in over three months. 'Not since Bella left…'
He sighed as his wolf reminded him again of his friend; he wasn't sure which one of them missed her more. The whole pack felt the same, although no one ever said it out loud, their balance as a pack was off as they all struggled with their wolves. It was almost as if all their wolves had imprinted on Bella and refused to be satisfied until they tracked her down and brought her home.
His wolf was the worst, since he was the only one who knew where Bella was, but Paul and Leah seemed to be having more trouble than the others. He winced at the thought of his sister; he'd been trying to avoid her since the confrontation in the field and she seemed content to continue to pretend he didn't exist. And Jacob…well he'd been doing a very good job of steering clear from him, especially once he found out Jacob knew that Seth had been with Bella before she had disappeared.
It had taken all of Sam's Alpha authority to keep Jacob from hunting Seth down and fighting him until he told him where Bella was. He was nearly ready to go after her himself, especially with what she'd told him about this mysterious Bryce character the last time they'd talked. He couldn't shake the prickling feeling down his spine whenever he thought of Bella being alone with the guy and his wolf would snarl angrily. Something seemed off and he worried about her, more so when she would go days without answering his calls and texts.
She blamed it on being busy with work and her time at the gym but it still put him on edge until she finally answered him, like now. He hadn't heard from her in over a week, last she'd told him was that she was going on some fancy, special dinner with the guy. His wolf whined and tried to turn the man towards the South, towards Bella, but he wrestled control back and raked a hand through his hair. Maybe he should go and try to talk to Jacob, see if he could gauge his wolf's reaction to see if he was as bad as the rest of them. With that in mind he turned towards the Black's house and trudged through the rain.
Leah scowled at Paul and snapped her jaws at his hind leg. "I'm serious Lahote, move it. We need to tell Jacob the truth before he kills himself."
Paul's silver wolf snarled at her as they circled each other, refusing to agree but she could feel the struggle the man was having with the wolf, the same one she was having with hers. Neither of them had had a moment's peace in months, almost to the point of being physically painful for them as they fought the urge to find Swan and bring her back to La Push. Leah had finally reached her breaking point after fighting over the scene of Jacob in his garage, the man and wolf suffering a slow and painful spiral into madness and possibly death. Leah refused to go without Paul, knowing that it would take the two of them to convince Jacob they were telling the truth about their deceit and Bella's reaction
"It's none of our business! The baby Alpha will be fine, maybe he'll finally grow a pair and get over the leech lover!"
Leah let out a tandem growl with Paul's wolf and he whimpered slightly as his legs tried to buckle under him. "You know as well as I do that he won't. Maybe he didn't imprint on her but there's something about her that is important to him, and his wolf. And ours won't stop punishing us until we fix this. They know it's our fault."
He growled again but it was weaker this time and she lunged at him suddenly, her smaller and lithe body evading his teeth as he let out a surprised yelp as she crashed into him. They rolled over each other in a snarling ball of silver and grey fur, teeth and claws searching for purchase to gain leverage.
Leah let out an angry howl as Paul clamped his jaws around the only thing he could grab-her tail- and she whipped her body around his before he could react, pinning him to the ground and clamping her jaws around his throat. He growled angrily, his legs scrambling for purchase in the wet earth, but with Leah positioned behind him he couldn't get a foothold. He stilled beneath her, sides heaving as he growled low in his chest at her.
Leah was as surprised as he was, she never thought she'd be able to pin him down with her smaller size, but she quickly shook that thought from her head as she growled at him. "You're coming with me Paul. Jacob is our brother and he needs us. He needs her. Now submit."
He snarled at her, trying to jerk his head away from her jaw and she felt his hot blood coat the inside of her mouth as her teeth sliced through the skin. She shifted her grip to an undamaged part of his neck and tightened her jaw around his throat again as she growled louder. "Submit!"
He growled angrily and tried to snap at her before snarling and lowering his head to the ground and stilling. "Fine. Let's go deal with the wimp."
She growled at him and tightened her jaw before shaking him and releasing his neck, licking the blood off her muzzle as she stepped back and jerked her head towards Jacob's house. "Move it Lahote."
Rolling to his feet he shook his coat and winced at the nearly healed cuts on his neck before chuffing loudly and slowly trailing after her as she started through the woods.
Jacob awoke with a gasp, flailing his arms as he let out a hoarse cry. "Bella!"
His only answer was a thud as he tumbled off the couch. Groaning, he rolled onto his back, squinting in the light that flooded the Taj, his slowing heart and sweat slicked skin the only remnants of his nightmare. Running his hand through his damp hair he let his arm flop over his face, wishing he could shut out the world as easily as the watery midmorning light. He moved his other arm to push himself up and the clink of glass made him peer blearily at the dozen or so empty bottles of alcohol that littered the floor.
He faintly remembered the trip to the gas station and the intimidating glare he had given the cashier when he'd started to ask Jacob for his I.D., making the man stutter off into silence and quickly ring up his purchase. Unfortunately, once he'd gotten back to the garage and started chugging it down he discovered that his body heat kept burning off the alcohol before he could get more than buzzed. That failed to explain his thick tongue and pounding head, until he caught a glimpse of some jugs out of the corner of his eye and he groaned as he rolled to his back and threw his hand over his eyes. When he had realized that the whiskey, scotch, beer and whatever else he bought wasn't going to work he had dug around for his dad's stash of Rez moonshine, a specialty of Old Quil's.
Apparently two jugs was enough to make a werewolf hung-over, he couldn't imagine it would take much to make a normal human drunk. With a groan he rolled himself to his feet and made his way to the door, peering out at the weeping landscape that echoed the feeling inside his own heart. Ignoring the mournful howl of his wolf he stepped outside and tipped his face to the sky, letting the water run over his face and chest, soaking his cutoffs in less than a minute. Gasping out a breath he tipped his face to the ground, swiping the water from his face with his hand and running it through his hair as he tried to ignore the memory that floated on the edge of his subconscious, of the same area a year ago, in rain much like this and the angry cry of the girl he loved, confronting him about abandoning her.
His chest throbbed painfully as his wolf snarled in anger, that he had let her walk away then and now, that the man refused to fight for her. Jacob growled and slammed his hand into the side of the wall, fighting the burning heat that licked up his spine. "I did nothing but fight for her and she still chose him. What more could I do?"
His wolf snarled in response, pacing angrily as man and beast battled for control over their shared body. Gritting his teeth Jacob stalked towards the house, fists clenched tightly as he shoved the memories and emotions down with his wolf. He yanked the kitchen door open, the hinges protesting with a loud squeak at the force of his anger, and he stormed into the kitchen, letting the door slam in the wind behind him. Billy looked up at him from across the table, a mug of coffee steaming in front of him as he met his son's eyes. "Jacob."
"Dad." Averting his gaze he stalked his way across the kitchen and opened the fridge, wincing slightly at the harsh light from inside.
"Busy night last night?" Jacob heard his father sip from his coffee and he shrugged even though Billy couldn't see it.
"No more than usual." Digging through the fridge he pulled out a casserole that looked like it was from Emily and grabbed a bottle of water before kicking the door shut and walking over to the stove and flicking it on to heat up his food. Silence reined behind him except for the occasional sip of coffee and he hoped that Billy would let their usually greeting be the only conversation for the morning.
"Got an interesting call this morning."
Apparently not. Jacob rubbed a hand over his face and sighed loudly, turning to face the table. "You're chief dad, I'm sure you get interesting calls all the time."
Billy frowned at him and set his coffee mug down carefully, resting his elbows on the arms of his chair and clasping his hands. "Not that my son scared a liqueur store clerk bad enough into selling him alcohol even though he's underage."
Jacob kept his face blank and stared at his father coolly, shrugging as he turned to the stove as it beeped to let him know it was ready. "Can't imagine why they could possibly think that."
He could feel Billy's frown burning into the back of his head and heard his father sigh slightly. "Son, I know that the past few months have been hard for you. Everyone has tried to help you in any way we can but you won't let us."
He hesitated a moment and Jacob hoped he would drop it until Billy sighed again. "Jake, if Bella were here-"
Jacob spun abruptly, glaring at his father and spat. "If she were here she wouldn't have run off with that fucking bloodsucker and she would have stayed with me!"
Billy flinched slightly as Jacob's form trembled violently and cautiously wheeled his chair back from the table and toward his son. "Jacob, I know you're hurting. When I lost Sarah-"
A cry of frustrated rage escaped his lips and Jacob slammed his hand on the counter as he snarled. "Don't you dare compare losing mom to losing Bella! Mom didn't choose to leave you, she didn't choose another man over you, she didn't willingly want to die! She died in a car crash with some idiot drunk driver, she didn't marry a bloodsucking leech and choose to become like him. So don't you dare say you know what I'm going through!"
Jacob could feel himself on the edge of phasing and he stormed out of the house with a loud crash from the door, so caught up in his fury that he didn't see the broken look on his father's face or the lone tear that traced its way down Billy's weathered cheek.
Jacob stormed his way towards the garage, fighting the urge to phase as he clenched his jaw and raked a hand through his hair. Heat licked up his spine, making his muscles twitch underneath his skin and he was fairly certain he heard the raindrops sizzle as they made contact with his burning flesh. His wolf was clawing at his self-control, at that moment it was ready to do whatever it took to find Bella, even if that meant spending the rest of its life searching every inch of the Earth to do so.
He had nearly reached the door when out of the corner of his eye he saw a bloody and very pissed off looking Paul step out of the forest, followed by a very determined looking Leah. A growl rose in his throat and he glared at them as he yanked open the door and snarled. "Go away!"
Slamming the door behind him he dropped his head into his hands and groaned as the twitching in his muscles increased and he felt one of the bones in his arm snap and slowly reheal. A knock at the door pulled him from his mental battle and he heard Paul's bored voice start to get fainter. "Obviously the baby Alpha doesn't want to talk to us, I'm out of here."
"Lahote, get your ass back here before I drag you back." Leah's voice hissed and then she knocked on the door again. "Jake, please, we really need to talk to you."
He growled again and stalked to the door, yanking it open to glower at the she-wolf outside. "What do you want?"
Her eyes widened fractionally as she took in his feral appearance and she shook her head slightly. "Jacob I'm so sorry…"
He frowned at her, wondering what she meant, but Paul pushed his way past them both and muttered, "Let's get this over with; I'm tired of dealing with this shit."
Leah glanced at Jake and he jerked his head as he stepped back, letting her walk past him before shutting the door. Paul looked around and let out an appreciative whistle, nudging a few of the bottles with his bare feet. "Have a party here did you?"
Jacob ignored him and turned to Leah with a frown. "What do you want?"
She bit her lip slightly and looked at Paul, uncertainty on her face and he dimly realized that he had never seen Leah like this before and it made him nervous.
"Jake, we need to tell you something…we should have told you the truth a long time ago, we shouldn't have done it in the first place, we were just trying to protect you. We were wrong, and we're so sorry…"
She wrung her hands tightly and he raised an eyebrow as he glanced between her and Paul who was leaning against the counter with an annoyed look on his face. "Oh for heaven's sake Clearwater just spit it out!"
She glared at Paul and growled, "I don't see you helping Lahote."
Jacob sighed and rubbed his face with his hand, he was no longer shaking but his temper was still on a knife's edge. "Will one of you please tell me what is going on before I throw you both out?"
Silence rang through the garage and he heard Leah suck in a deep breath. "Jacob…before when we told you that…that Bella decided to stay with the bloodsucker…we were lying."
Dead silence fell over the garage, broken only by the rain on the roof, and Jacob slowly raised blank eyes to stare at her. She sighed and traded a glance with Paul before she explained what had happened in the clearing after he had been taken away. Jacob stared at them, his face blank and staring and slowly he straightened to his full height, looking far more menacing in his state of calm than she had ever seen Sam, even at his angriest.
"Let me get this straight. You two decided to interfere with not only my life but the life of the only girl I've ever loved and send her to her death with that bloodsucking leech? And you've waited three months, three damn months, to tell me this while I've been going through hell?!"
His voice barely rose in volume but Leah still felt a shudder pass over her and she couldn't help the instinct to tilt her head slightly and bare her neck to Jacob, hoping the submissive act would calm him somewhat. She could practically feel the Alpha power rolling off him in waves and something told her that Jacob was closer than ever to stepping up to his birthright, even if he didn't know it himself. "Jake, I'm sorry. We thought we were protecting you, especially after we saw the ring on her finger...we thought she was just going to hurt you again. You were already so broken I didn't think you could take anymore."
Paul sniffed a laugh behind her and she shot him a warning glare that he ignored as he sneered, "He would have let her do it and still run after her. Let's face it the little Alpha would have let her walk all over him till she took her last breath and probably after too."
Leah didn't have time to do anything more than blink and Paul was gone, a large hole in the wall the only sign of him, and a murderous looking Jacob flinging himself after him with a cry of rage. "Oh shit..."
Seth was just clearing the forest outside Jacob's house when he heard a loud crash and saw Paul go tumbling end over end out of a hole in the garage wall. He stopped, stunned and Seth saw him glare towards the garage as Jacob leapt out of it with a cry of anger. Paul jumped to his feet, slinging curses at Jacob before he burst into a ball of grey fur and charged him with a snarl. Seth saw Jacob hesitate for a moment, just long enough that he had to dive to the side to avoid Paul's flashing teeth, and then he was on his feet again, shaking as he yelled something at Paul, something about them interfering with him and Bella.
Seth's ears pricked up and he stepped back into the shadows and slipped off his cutoffs before phasing and winced when he heard the profanity that Paul was still yelling at Jacob. He saw his sister jump through the hole in the wall and try to get Jake to calm down but he ignored her as his shaking intensified and he dropped to his knees with a howl of pain before he too phased and Seth staggered under the pain and anger that flooded the pack mind. He knew Jake hadn't phased since the night he discovered Bella gone and the pain of finally doing it was nearly as bad as the first time.
The pack mind was suddenly joined by Leah as she tried to calm Jacob down again and Seth's eyes widened when he heard Jacob snarl at her and his mind replayed the conversation the three had just had in the garage. They were too busy to notice him as his mind spun, he couldn't believe his sister and Paul had lied to both Bella and Jacob, and he realized that Bella would be back here in an instant if she knew the truth. He glanced at the three snarling wolves in the yard and set his mouth in a firm line as he phased back to human and yanked on his shorts, running for his house as fast as possible.
Jacob lunged at Paul, the fresh rage and still lingering pain making him even faster than normal and his pack brother just barely moved out of reach of his glinting teeth. Leah tried to pull his attention to her, still going on about how sorry she was but he ignored her and let his wolf decide how they were going to slowly rip Paul to shreds. He could see in Paul's eyes that he was just starting to worry about how feral Jacob's mind was and was trying to look for an opening to pin the russet wolf down so they could get him to calm down.
He didn't give him a chance as he feinted to the left and darted towards Paul as he ducked, his paw raking across Paul's back as he spun and howled in anger. Jacob was faintly aware that the pack mind was filling with other thoughts and howls but he pushed those away and focused on the grey wolf in front of him as Leah darted between them. "Jacob! Please calm down and listen!"
He snarled at her, slightly surprised when she backed up and tilted her head to him and his wolf rumbled in satisfaction at the show of submission. Leah saw that it helped and slowly lowered herself to the ground, relieved when she felt Jacob's wolf calm a bit and she tried to distract him from Paul, replaying her memory from the clearing for him. "Jake, I don't think Bella is a vampire yet. She was devastated when we lied to her, maybe she was ready to leave the leech and we just didn't know. And didn't she mention going to Alaska for college to be a cover with Charlie?"
Jacob broke his gaze off of Paul and snarled as he began to pace, the man forcing the wolf to stop and think. He felt the small ray of hope that maybe Bella was still alive, maybe she had only gone to Alaska because she really was going to school and to get away from Forks and him. He felt a pang of anger and disappointment that she would believe Leah and Paul so easily but then again he had cut her off after she'd returned with the blood sucking leech from Italy.
He slowly sat back on his haunches as this mind spun, trying to comprehend that Bella was still alive and maybe the whole summer had just been one big misunderstanding. As they tumbled around in his head he noticed that they were surrounded by the rest of the pack and Sam was approaching him.
"Jacob. What is the meaning of this?"
Jacob could feel his wolf's hackles rise in response to Sam's demanding tone and before he could stop it a growl slipped from his jaws. He could feel the surprise roll through the pack and the disbelief from Sam before the black wolf snarled in retaliation. Jacob sprang to his feet and the two wolves began to circle as they snapped at each other. The rest of the wolves hesitated, forming a semi-circle around the two of them, unsure what was going on or what to do.
"Stand down Jacob!" Sam's wolf snapped at Jacob's back legs as he spoke and Jacob growled as he twisted away. In a small part of his mind he was wondering why he was doing this but it was overwhelmed by the anger from his wolf and pushed the rational human side away, forcing him to act on instinct.
Surprise washed over him and the others when he realized that Sam's Alpha command had no effect on him and he saw Sam hesitate, giving him an opening. Without thinking he lunged at the black wolf and sent them both tumbling, snapping and snarling as they struggled for the upper hand. Jacob let out a howl as Sam clamped his jaw around his foot and yanked it away, ignoring the pain of Sam's teeth slicing at the skin. Rolling away he struggled to balance on three feet as he turned to face Sam again, ignoring the frantic voices of the Pack as they tried to talk the two wolves down.
"QUIET!" His voice echoed through the Pack mind and was followed by a resounding, stunned silence. Everyone felt the power behind the command and all the wolves but Sam dropped to the ground with a faint whimper, leaving the two wolves at a standoff. Jacob could feel Sam fighting the accidental Alpha command, the only reason it hadn't immediately dropped the black wolf was the shifting power between the two of them. He took the moment of distraction to lunge at him again, sinking his teeth into Sam's neck as he slammed his body into his shoulder, the crunch of bone and Sam's muffled howl of pain echoing briefly through everyone's heads before Jacob pinned him against the ground.
Echoed panic swept through his mind from the others as he clenched his jaw around Sam's neck tighter and tighter, Sam's breath coming in rasping gasps as blood soaked the ground beneath him.
"Jacob…I yield…" Sam's voice was faint and blackness clouded the edges of his vision but his whisper fell on deaf ears as a red haze blinded Jacob and the coppery tang of blood coated his tongue.
"Jacob…please stop…" A softer voice broke his bloodlust and he glanced up to see Leah's grey wolf crawling slowly towards them, her eyes locked on Sam as his breathing grew shallower. "Jake, please…you're killing him. Think…think of Emily…she's his imprint…if you kill him it will destroy her."
Surprise made him pause and loosen his grip slightly, he could feel the missing tinge of bitterness that was present when she thought of her ex and cousin. He looked down at Sam's nearly closed eyes and slowly forced himself to release his neck, stepping back as he raised his eyes to Leah's. "You're my second."
She blinked at him in confusion but he turned and darted into the woods, locking his thoughts away from the others as he headed north, one thought at the front of his mind. "Bella…"
Leah stared after Jake's retreating figure in shock as she felt the Alpha command fall away from them, letting the Pack mind flood with confusion, panic and fear. Shaking her head she turned to Sam's body, noting with relief that his neck had at least stopped bleeding. Walking over to him she nudged his head slightly, wincing when he whined as he tried to move his left leg. "Jake must have broken it pretty bad. Sam you need to phase back, the guys can carry you home."
She watched as he struggled to roll onto his stomach, pushing himself into a sitting position before his form blurred and was replaced with a naked Sam. She ignored that as Sam let out an agonizing cry, cradling his arm into his chest as he started to fall forward. Without thinking she phased back and caught him, steadying him with a hand on his uninjured shoulder and the other on his thigh. Her breath caught in her throat as their eyes locked and she fought the urge to look down, faintly realizing that this was the closest they had been since he had left her for Emily. Sam's gaze clouded with pain and his eyes dipped down her body, his breath fanning across her face and she swallowed as she saw the tinge of lust in his gaze, unconsciously massaging his leg slightly with her fingers.
"Guys?" Embry's uncomfortable voice broke Leah's concentration and she tore her eyes from Sam's caressing gaze to see the rest of the Pack standing behind them, eyes raised to the trees as they avoiding looking at the couple. She realized the intimate position they were in and bit her lip as she met Sam's gaze again.
"Paul, Jared take him home, call the leech doctor if he doesn't heal quickly. And say nothing to Emily about what happened, just that there was a misunderstanding. Embry, you and Quil patrol until the switch off." Slowly she stood as Jared and Paul stepped to Sam's side, the rest of the Pack still keeping their gazes away from their pack sister.
"Leah…" Sam's voice was thick with pain and emotion and she forced herself to turn away and start walking towards the woods.
"Go home to Emily Sam." Blinking back the tears in her eyes she ran towards the forest before phasing and running towards home.
Leah walked into her house, tugging the hem of the sundress she had pulled from the garage stash down as she tried to bury the feelings that the moment with Sam had raised to the surface. Striding into the kitchen she looked for a snack to distract herself. As she walked past the fridge a sheet of paper caught her eye and she stopped when she saw her name at the top.
'Leah,
Don't freak out, but I've gone away for a while. Please don't worry, I'm going to be safe but there's something I have to do. I know that you guys lied to Bella and Jake and I know where she is. She'll come straight back with me once she hears the truth, so try to keep Jacob from really freaking out and doing something stupid till we get back. I won't tell you where I'm going cause I know you'll try to follow me. We should be back soon, tell mom I love her and not to worry.
Love, Seth'
Leah stared at the paper for a long moment before resting her head against the fridge and sighing. "Shit. Why is it always me?"
A/N: So what did everybody think? Lots of drama and angst going on I know, and I'm sure no one is too happy about that... I know Leah is acting a little OOC, but I needed to take her out of her bitchy phase for a bit. Plus her wolf has been fighting her for several months so that wore her down some too. But she'll be back and bitchy as ever before long. Tell me what you think and I'll work hard on the next chapter, the feedback really does help. Thanks for reading! :)
