"Jeeze Natsu," Gray drawled, "what sort of costume is that?"
It was Fairy Tail's Halloween party, which was always awesome, and Natsu had been standing on a table as he eyed everyone in their costume. he spotted Evergreen unoriginally dressing as a fairy again talking to Elfman who was in one of his beast forms, Laxus was dressed as a vampire as he was pulled onto the dance floor by a vampire Mira – actually a lot of people were dressed as vampires to the point even Happy and Lily were dressed a vampire bats – and several of the girls came dressed as witches, but none of them, none of them, were a fabulously dressed Lucy. The party had been going for almost two hours and she still hadn't shown up.
At the sound of Gray's voice, he looked down at his own costume which was his normal outfit coupled with a turban, and grinned. He made an awesome Aladdin.
"Better than your costume," he smirked at Gray. "Who are you supposed to be? The Naked Pervert?"
"Wha – oh crap!" Gray yelled as he realised he was butt baked. "My costume!"
"Gray-sama!" Juvia cried out as she ran out of the crowd. She was covered in blue paint and wore a ragged wedding dress, a dirty veil, that looked an awful lot like Lucy's one that Natsu kept in his house, was resting precariously on her head. "Juvia has your costume! You dropped it on the dance floor!"
"Oh thank you, Juvia," Gray smiled. "If you must know," he said to Natsu, "I'm a zombie like Juvia."
"Juvia is a zombie bride, tragically killed before she could say I do to the man she loves," Juvia said as she gazed dreamily at Gray. "And Gray-sama is the gro – Juvia means wedding guest who was struck in the same zombie attack."
"Excuse me," Gray said finally dressed, "I have a bobbing apple contest to win."
"Not if I get there first!" Natsu retorted as Gray turned round. Natsu blinked at the sight of Gray's back, the black suit jacket had the words 'Juvia's husband' embroidered on it and love hearts surrounding the words with a flourish. He struggled not to laugh as he grinned and gave Juvia a thumbs up. Gray took off, oblivious.
"Have you seen Lucy?" Natsu asked Juvia.
"No," Juvia shook her head. "Love Rival has not arrived yet but when she does Juvia shall tell her that you are looking for her and she is to go straight to you and leave Juvia's Gray-sama alone."
"Erm," Natsu sweat-dropped, "thanks?"
Frustrated and having lost all patience, Natsu ran out of the guild building in hunt of his Lucy.

Since Happy wasn't with him and Natsu wasn't in the mood in climbing up the wall and clamber through the window, so for once he knocked on the door. An impatient repetitive bang on the door until it finally opened. "Finally!" he snapped. "What's taking you so lo…" he tailed off as he realised It wasn't Lucy that opened the door but Capricorn.
"Lucy-sama is not available right now," Capricorn said formally as ever, "If you would like to leave a message I will happily pass it on to her."
"That's all right," Natsu grumbled, "I'll wait."
He then shouldered his way past the stupid goat man and stormed into Lucy's apartment in hopes of shoving her costume on and dragging her back to the party so they could have fun together like they were supposed to.
However he halted to a stop when he saw Aquarius hover over a glass of water, wrapped in some sort of see-through blue cardigan, Scorpio lounging on the sofa with an actual shirt on, Loke dressed in some sort of weird dress as he lounged on the other side of the sofa, Aries was curled up on the floor beside him dressed in a long white dress, Virgo was cleaning and was, for once, not dressed in her maid uniform, Sagittarius and Taurus was stuck in the kitchen together, and Gemini were playing with Lucy's stuffed toys.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ALL DOING HERE?!" Natsu yelled horrified. He had never seen all of Lucy's spirits together outside of the spirit world and he can't help but shake off the feeling that this wasn't good. Especially since all of them shot him a filthy look, well apart from Virgo who was too busy cleaning, and Aries who was too nice, and Cancer since he wasn't in the room. "Luce," he called out, "did you drink a super magic potion or something?"
"Don't be stupid," Aquarius scoffed, "you idiot."
"It's Samhain," Lucy shouted from the bathroom as that explained everything.
"Say-what?"
"I sometimes worry about how you could be so stupid," Loke said shaking his head. "Samhain is Halloween."
"Why not call it Halloween?"
"Because Samhain came first!"
"Today is the day where the veil between both worlds are at its thinnest, Master Natsu," Virgo explained, "we can all come through on our own power because there is little to stop us."
"Yeah," Scorpio grinned, "now it's party time. We Are!"
"Oh," Natsu blinked. "So you're coming to the party too?"
"No!" Aquarius snorted in disgust.
"Sorry," Aries squeaked, "we're going to our own party. I'm sorry! It's just going to be us and Lucy-san. Sorry!"
"What?!" Natsu barked. "Lucy! Tell me they're lying! We're going to the guild party and kick Gray's arse at apple bobbing and scare Happy, right?"
"Natsu," he could almost hear Lucy roll her eyes. "I told you before I wasn't going to the party. I promised this night to my spirit, we rarely have a chance to spend time together like this."
"Oh come on!" Natsu cried out. "You sleep with their keys every night!" he really hated that fact. Especially since he always got kicked out while Loke's key got to snuggle against Lucy's hip. Life was so unfair sometimes. "Besides they can come with us. Everyone would love to see Loke again, lord knows why-"
"Gee," Loke said sarcastically, "thanks Natsu."
"- and some of the members have yet to meet your spirits," Natsu continued as if Loke had never spoken, "it would be fun. Come on!"
"Natsu," Lucy said firmly as she stepped out of the bathroom, Cancer not far behind her as he nodded at her approvingly, "no means no. now drop it."
Natsu's mouth dropped open a little bit at the sight of her. She wore simple white robes that were decorated with shiny beads in some sort of flowery design and a weird crown that wasn't really a crown that had metal links weaved into her hair.
"Lucy," he choked out, "what the hell are you wearing?"
He got slapped over the head with a fish by Aquarius for that. "Don't be disrespectful," she scolded him. She eyed Lucy and hummed in a dissatisfied manner, "You don't look good as Layla but you'll do."
"What Aquarius means," Loke rolled his eyes, "is that you look very beautiful tonight, Lucy."
"It's fucking weird!" Natsu burst out (and got slapped with another fish by Aquarius). "What are you even dressed as?"
"I'm the High Priestess for the ceremony tonight," Lucy explained, "I can't go to the party tonight because my spirits and I are going to celebrate Samhain properly with a circle."
Natsu imagined a really big circle that was probably made of food or candles (which were like sweets to him if they're scented. He was a big fan of Lucy's apple and cinnamon candles or her vanilla ones though for some reason she stopped buying them….) and grinned excitedly. "Can I come?" he asked eagerly. "I've never been to a circle before."
Lucy exchanged a look with her spirts and they all shrugged (apart from Aquarius, she just glared) in response to whatever weird silent question she was asking. "I suppose." Lucy sighed, "But I don't want any mocking from you. This is very important."
"No mocking," Natsu promised.

To Natsu, this whole circle thing was boring as hell. There was a lot of standing around and doing nothing while Lucy and her spirits set up candles (which he was not allowed to eat, each time he reached for it Cancer slapped his hand away with his scissors) and then they all had to stand in a special place, Cancer up north, Loke down south, Capricorn east, and Aquarius west, while Lucy stood at the centre by some sort of alter filled to the brim with food, and drink, and candles, and flowers.
The ones that stood in special places all had a weird paragraph of inviting an element inside to join them (how can water party with them? It made no sense. And fire was for eating not for conversation) and then there was lots of weird dancing which was rather uncomfortable for Natsu because he usually danced by himself not with Virgo who was very stiff in her steps, or with Aries who kept squeaking apologies, or even Loke, now that was a fucking weird experience, and they all kept chanting some sort of weird thing as well.
Then it got a little more interesting as everyone toasted to people they were grateful for, to people they loved and lost, and their future resolutions. It was interesting to hear the different sort of people the spirits had once belonged to….well apart from that Karin chick, he didn't know why Loke and Aries toasted her because from what he heard from Lucy, that woman didn't deserve them at all.
And then, for Natsu, the best part was breaking the bread and feasting. "So that's it," Natsu asked in between bites of a really good ham sandwich, "you say weird stuff, chant and dance, drink, and then eat. You do realise you can do all of that at the party, right?"
"Natsu," Loke said irritably, "Macao's and Wakaba's chants on the girl's bra sizes is not considered Samhain material. Though," he leaned in with an amused twinkle in his eye, "Erza's and Mirajane's reaction is terrifying enough."
Natsu grinned briefly. "But then what's the big deal about this?" he asked. "I don't get it."
"Don't you feel it, ebi?" Cancer asked. "We are not alone."
"Eh?"
"I can certainly feel Layla-sama's spirit," Capricorn said blissfully, "she is very proud of you, Lucy-sama for doing such a fine job tonight."
Lucy blushed while Aquarius scoffed. "How can she be proud?" Aquarius muttered, "Her daughter is under a dangerous influence," and at that she narrowed her eyes at Natsu.
"Wait!" Natsu yelped. "We're eating with dead people?! Where are they? Why can't I see them but you can?!"
"It doesn't work like that, Natsu-dono," Sagittarius tried to explain, "We cannot see them anymore than you can. We can just sense them. It's a warm and gentle feeling around us."
Huh.
Natsu could actually feel that but he had just put it down to the fact Lucy was pressed against him for warmth as she had, once again, dressed inappropriately for the evening. Just because Natsu couldn't feel it didn't mean it wasn't a cold October night.
"So what's next then?" Natsu asked. "More chanting and dancing?"
"After we have feasted," Virgo spoke up, "Hime will close the circle and we will send the elements back."
"Oh."
So more boring stuff then. Oh well, it was better than watching Gray lose his costume over and over again without Lucy.
Besides the food was pretty awesome as well.
"NATSU!" Lucy shrieked much later. "DON'T EAT ALL THE FOOD! WE'RE SUPPOSED TO LEAVE SOME FOR THE DEAD!"
"Dead people don't need to eat," Natsu rolled his eyes. "Jeeze, you're such a weirdo."
