A/N: Hey all, here's the next chapter! We had a fire heading straight for our house a couple weeks ago so we frantically threw everything we could into a trailer to move it and my writing notebook with most of this chapter got buried so I had to dig it out and then actually finish the chapter. Fortunately our house is fine, the fire fighters got it under control before it burned any structures. Hope you all enjoy, lots of drama in this one! Thanks for all your reviews on the last chapter! Enjoy!
Give Into Me Part 4
Bella awoke slowly, feeling rested for the first time in weeks, a feeling of contentment and peace washing over her. She could feel hot skin pressing against her bare back, an equally burning arm thrown around her waist. She looked down with a smile, seeing Jacob's fingers interlaced with hers over her stomach, their legs tangled together beneath the light blanket draped over them. Jacob's other arm was curled under her head, his breath tickling the back of her neck as he pressed his face into her hair, and she cautiously twisted around, careful not to wake him, so she could study his face. He was laying half on his stomach, mouth slightly open as he snored softly, his face free from worry and looking more rested than she had seen in a long time. Her fingers itched to trace over his face again, rememorizing the features that she knew like her own, but she resisted and let him rest.
She carefully maneuvered her body away from his, feeling a pleasant ache in her limbs as she disentangled them from Jacob's, quietly making her way to the duffle bag in the bedroom and pulling out one of Jacob's t-shirts that she had packed. Slipping it over her head she padded on bare feet to the bathroom, thinking a quick shower would help wake her up fully so she could make breakfast. As she flipped on the light her reflection caught her eye and she turned to look at the mirror, raising a brow at her thoroughly mussed hair. "And here I though having sex hair was a romance novel cliché."
Shaking her head she ran her fingers through it, a vain attempt to put it in some semblance of order before giving up and turning on the shower. As the steam began to fill the room she stretched her arms overhead, wincing at a slight pain between her neck and shoulder and she tugged the collar away as she turned to look in the mirror. Her eyes widened as she took in the bite mark at the junction of her neck and shoulder, leaning forward to see it better she could make out most of the teeth marks were just a dark purple bruise but there were two distinct puncture marks from sharper teeth.
A quick turn confirmed matching marks on the other side, and she hesitantly raised her fingertips to the edges, wincing at the tenderness. She couldn't help the smile from crossing her face as she remembered Jacob marking her in the midst of their passion the night before. Heat flooded her body as her fingers brushed over the mark and she shook her head to clear her mind of the memories, letting the shirt cover it back up as she turned to check the shower. As she tested the water she heard a whisper of sound behind her and then a hot chest was pressed against her back, making her sigh as she leaned into Jacob's embrace, his arms snaking around her waist. "Mornin."
His sleepy growl sent a shiver down her spine and she leaned back to peck him on the cheek as she rubbed his arms. "Morning. Didn't mean to wake you, how'd you sleep?"
His fingers stroked over her hip bones, the thin t-shirt doing little to shield her from their burning heat and her breath caught as the rough pads of his fingers dragged down her legs. "I've had plenty of sleep, don't think I can sleep without you there anyways. Although there are plenty of other things we can do in bed…"
He pressed a searing kiss to her neck, just above the neck of the t-shirt that covered the mark and Bella arched against him, desire clouding her thoughts as she struggled to breathe normally.
Jacob's lips started a burning trail up and down her neck, getting closer to the mark, and she started to turn to pull him into the shower with her. From the bedroom her cell phone started blaring "Too Sexy" making her pause and sigh as she pulled away, Jacob's growl of annoyance making her smile. "It's Paul; he's probably just worried and checking on us."
She saw the flash of guilt in his eyes and leaned up to press a quick kiss to his lips, reminding him they had moved past all that. He gave her a small smile, trailing close behind as she hurried to pick up the persistent phone. "Paul. What have I told you about messing with my ringtones?"
His chuckle made her roll her eyes with an amused smile, watching as Jacob leaned against the bedpost, his cutoff sweats hanging low on his hips and his dark eyes glowing with the promise of continuing what they'd started in the bathroom. Biting her lip she forced herself to look away and focus on Paul's voice as he asked her about Jacob. "Yes, we're both fine. Better than fine. And no, I'm not giving you details."
He chuckled again before his tone turned serious. "I know you planned on spending the weekend there but Billy just called and said Charlie got called in for some emergency at work so they're heading back. He wanted you and Jacob to know so you can get back before they do."
She felt a pang of disappointment as she met Jacob's gaze, seeing it reflected in his eyes, and sighed. "Alright, we'll be there soon. Oh, how is Jen? Is she recovering okay?"
Silence met her question and she frowned as she pulled the phone away to make sure she hadn't lost the call. "Paul? You there?"
He coughed and hurriedly assured her, "Yeah…yeah she's fine. Still sleeping. I'll uh, see you guys soon."
He hung up before Bella could reply, leaving her staring at the phone in confusion before shaking her head and putting it back on the table. Looking back to Jacob she grimaced and moved to stand in front of him, slipping her arms around his waist and leaning her cheek against his chest. "You heard?"
He nodded, arms gently caging her to his body as he sighed. "Yeah. Duty calls."
She echoed his sigh, mentally cursing whatever emergency interrupted their plans, and leaned back to watch him as she questioned, "Are you okay? We were supposed to have three days with Billy keeping dad busy but we can try to make up something-"
Jacob placed a finger over her lips, stopping her rambling, and shook his head as he smiled at her. "No, you have enough to keep from your dad without lying to him. This isn't how I want to start our relationship, not like you had to with the leech. Charlie has always wanted us together, I'm sure he'll be thrilled. And I'm okay; we're both okay, thanks to you. Go shower while I clean up and we'll go home."
She nodded, happiness welling up in her chest at how much had changed in just one night, and stood on tiptoe to press a kiss to his lips, then darted out of the room before he could grab her.
"Tease!"
Paul hung up, hoping Bella hadn't noticed his near slip, and turned from his position against the doorjamb to see Jen's violet gaze on him. She smiled softly as she sat up, tucking the sheet under her arms as it clung to her bare form. "Hey."
He swallowed at her husky voice and crossed his arms tightly over his chest, trying to keep himself in check. "H-hey."
He mentally berated himself over the unsteadiness in his voice, he'd never been nervous the morning after with any girl. Clearing his throat to try and steady himself he raised his hand to rub the back of his neck, wracking his brain for something to say and coming up blank.
"Paul." Jen's soft voice drew his gaze back to hers and he watched as she moved off the bed, keeping the sheet wrapped around her as she moved towards him. She came close enough Paul could smell the sage and lavender scent that seemed embedded in her skin, unable to think straight as she lifted a hand and gently traced the designs of his tattoo before looking up and meeting his gaze. "It's okay Paul. Last night was…well, I for one don't regret it. We're adults, I'm not expecting anything, and we both needed it. Me to recover and you to let out your wolf a little. One of the benefits of being a supernatural being; we aren't as fragile as normal humans."
She gave him a sad smile, one that he noticed didn't reach her eyes, and stepped away as she tilted her head towards the suitcase in the corner. "I'd better get dressed before the others get here. Don't worry, I won't say anything if you won't."
He nodded dumbly, still turning over everything she'd said, and when he glanced at her again his eyes widened as she dropped the sheet to the ground; her pale skin with its colorful tattoos on display. He was so mesmerized by the sight he hadn't realized he was staring until she cleared her throat and his gaze snapped up to hers. "You okay there wolf boy?"
He nodded, afraid to open his mouth and say something he'd regret, seeing a mix of desire, sadness and longing in her eyes. He turned abruptly and fled the room, mentally reciting the Mariners scores from last season backwards, fighting every thought in his head that was telling him to go back.
Bella threw her hair up into a messy bun, the damp strands that she missed curling around her face as she double checked the bathroom for anything she missed. Satisfied she had packed it all she flipped off the light and made her way to the living room, doing a quick sweep of the bedroom on her way. "Jake, you get all the bags?"
A beep from outside made her smile and she headed for the door, pausing in front of the fireplace for a moment. Absentmindedly she brushed the material of her flannel where it covered the mark, wishing they didn't have to leave so soon. She would have enjoyed making a few more memories in front of the fire. Vowing to take another weekend away once Charlie was aware of their relationship she walked out the front door, making sure to lock it behind her, and circled around the cabin to where Jacob was packing the last of their things in her truck. "We better hurry, who knows when Dad and Billy will be back."
He jerked his head in a nod, running a hand through his hair as he leaned against the passenger door. "I wish we had a little longer."
Bella shook her head in agreement, moving to lean against the car next to him, and he reached out to clasp her hand as he smirked. "Course with the wolf, I don't think there'd ever be enough time. He'd be happy to keep you in bed with us forever. So would I."
Bella shivered when she saw his eyes darken, the idea was definitely tempting, but she forced herself to focus. "As fun as that sounds, forever is a long time and you'd probably get hungry at some point."
Jacob laughed, switching from seductive to his normal happy self so quickly it made her dizzy, opening the door so she could climb in. "That is certainly a disadvantage of being a wolf. Speaking of, are you making breakfast when we get home?"
Bella smacked his chest playfully as she climbed in, rolling her eyes at his hopeful face. "Oh I see, you just want me around for my cooking."
His wounded puppy dog eyes made her giggle and she jerked her head towards the driver's seat. "C'mon, I suppose I can't say no to a starving animal."
Jacob shot an indignant look at her as she yanked the door closed, grinning as he stalked around the truck while muttering under his breath. As he climbed in, still pouting, and Bella shook her head as she pulled her cellphone out of her pocket and shot a quick text off to Seth.
Breakfast at Jake's. Spread the word and bring food!
Bella went to work as soon as they arrived, sending Jacob to the store with a list of items she needed and Paul off to see if Sam and Emily needed help. Jen joined her in the kitchen to help start preparing the breakfast feast, her friend's normally vivacious attitude subdued. When Bella questioned her about it, Jen feigned being tired from the spell, but Bella wasn't fooled. After seeing the pained expression on her friend's face she let the matter drop, for now, hoping Jen would confide in her sooner or later. They worked together in silence, each lost in their own thoughts, until Paul entered the back door. He shook the water droplets from his hair; grinning at Bella's sigh, and grabbed a towel from the stack she kept by the door so he could dry himself off. "You are all such dogs."
He smirked at her mocking statement, his gaze sliding to Jen and becoming unreadable as he stared at her for a long moment. Bella watched, puzzled, as his brow wrinkled in frustration and he ducked out of the kitchen, muttering about watching for the rest of the Pack. Jen looked up as he left, biting her lip before returning her attention to the biscuits she was cutting out and Bella watched her two best friends thoughtfully. The odd tension was palatable, she'd noticed it when she'd first arrived and how Paul had bolted as soon as he could, and now she began to slowly piece their interactions together, her eyes widening as the truth suddenly dawned on her. Grabbing Jen's arm she yanked her out of the kitchen, ignoring the witch's protests as she pulled her into the laundry room and shut the door. Spinning around she crossed her arms and stared at her friend sternly. "You slept with Paul."
Jen's eyes refused to meet hers and Bella shook her head as she leaned against the door. "What were you thinking? I love Paul like a brother but he has no idea how to deal with a relationship. I don't think he's ever had one!"
Jen rubbed her temples and sighed, meeting Bella's gaze with a troubled look. "I know, that isn't what it was. When I cast bigger spells I have to replenish my magic from an energy source. The spell for Jacob was more draining than I thought it would be, I needed to do it through human contact. The fastest way to do that is…sex. I asked Paul, explained it to him, but he didn't do anything until I pushed him. It was just to help me recover."
Bella arched an eyebrow at her friend and she saw the warring emotions on Jen's face. "But?"
"But…I don't know, it was different. I've never had to do that before, most spells I cast aren't that draining. Maybe it's because I've never been with another supernatural type. I've only dated a couple warlocks and humans." Jen ran her hand through her hair in frustration and Bella felt her heart skip a beat as she paled.
"He didn't imprint on you, did he?"
Jen shook her hear vehemently, a look of sadness crossing her face briefly. "No! No, he didn't. He can't."
Bella looked at her in confusion but before she could question her odd statement she heard the sounds of the Pack arriving. Jen slipped past her, pausing to give Bella a hollow smile. "Don't worry; what happened was a one-time thing. Nothing can come of it, trust me. I'll go start getting the pans ready."
Bella didn't have time to object before her friend vanished and she groaned in frustration as she leaned against the washer, rubbing her temples as her mind spun. She knew Jen and Paul too well; neither was over whatever had happened between them the night before. She wasn't sure how to handle it, especially Paul. In the past she'd never seen him act like this with a girl he'd slept with, he was usually a love them and leave them type, but he was definitely upset about it.
"Bells?"
She looked up to see Jacob watching her from the door, a concerned look on his face, and she gave him a weak smile. "Hey."
He immediately crossed the room to wrap her in his arms, pressing a kiss into her hair as he murmured, "You okay?"
She started to nod but stopped, knowing Jacob could read her like a book, and shook her head with a sigh. "Not really but it's okay, it can wait. Did you find everything?"
He nodded, letting her lead him back to the kitchen and she shoved the dizzying problems to the back of her mind for the time being.
Bella leaned back against Jacob's chest with a sigh of content. Breakfast had been a hit; with the imprints helping it had taken a fraction of the time to prepare the feast needed to feed the monstrous appetite of the Pack. Jacob had insisted she sit with him while they ate, his need for physical contact no longer desperate but for comfort. She had obliged, his presence helping to keep her grounded as she watched Jen and Paul do everything possible to avoid contact. No one else seemed to notice the tension between the two of them, although when Jacob refused to let the girls cleanup they were all surprised that Paul was one of the first to volunteer, mostly to escape Bella's scrutiny.
She knew she'd have to corner him later, without so many sensitive ears around and she forced herself to tune back into the Pack's banter. Everyone was relieved to see Jacob back to normal, although they could all feel the Alpha power that radiated from him now. When he had insisted the girls not clean up after all their hard work the others had jumped to their feet to help, a cohesiveness in the room that she had never seen under Sam. Her gaze drifted to the former Alpha, he was healing quickly although he still needed help getting around, and saw conflicting emotions of contentment and sadness on his face. Most of his attention was on Emily as she chatted with Kim and Mikahla, but every so often she'd see him glance out the window.
Leah had taken the patrol with her brother, Bella guessed to avoid Sam and her cousin, and she sighed. She knew something would have to be done about the three of them soon, with Jacob as Alpha it would help the tension a little but it was still going to cause unneeded friction in the Pack. She added it to the growing list of things to talk to Jacob about, feeling his hand squeeze hers as he turned away from his conversation with Billy as he sensed her mood. "What's wrong?"
She shook her head, smiling softly as she murmured, "Later."
Standing she gave him a reassuring smile, feeling him squeeze her hand before he released it, and she made her way to the bathroom. Closing the door on the noise she sighed, trying to ignore the headache she could feel pressing on the backs of her eyes. She glanced in the mirror and frowned when she saw how pale she was, sweat beading on her forehead and upper lip. "Must've overdone it in the kitchen…"
She splashed some cold water on her face, gripping the edge of the sink as a wave of dizziness swept over her, black spots filling her vision as she tried to steady herself. As suddenly as it had come it was gone again and she slowly released her death grip on the sink as she straightened. "Okay…that was weird…"
Shaking her head she splashed more water on her face, deciding that she obviously needed some better rest that night. Exiting the bathroom she peeked in the kitchen, happy to see Paul, Jared and Embry were almost finished with the cleanup. Jared and Embry were joking and laughing together while Paul was staring out the window with a thoughtful frown on his face.
"Bella!"
Mikahla's voice broke into her thoughts and she turned to see Seth's imprint waving her over to the living room. She shot another glance at Paul before crossing the living room to join the imprints, concern for her friends causing a sick feeling deep in her stomach.
Bella ran out the door, seeing Paul nearly at the edge of the woods as he yanked his shirt over his head angrily. "Paul!"
She almost slipped in the mud, catching herself on one knee as she shouted again. "Paul! Get your furry ass back here!"
He glared back at her, more in annoyance than actual anger, and waited as she jogged through the rain to meet him under the trees. "Get back inside before you catch your death of cold and Jacob makes good on his promise to skin me alive!"
She shook her wet hair out of her eyes, matching him glare for glare as she crossed her arms. "Forget it. You've been avoiding me all morning and then tried to slip out the back when you thought I wasn't paying attention. Jen told me what happened last night."
Paul looked away, his face becoming a pinched mask of frustration, and shook his head. "Bella, I don't want to talk about it."
"Too bad! You should have thought about that before you slept with Jen. You're two of my best friends, and now you can't even look at each other much less be in the same room for two minutes. For heaven's sakes, you're making Sam and Leah's relationship look healthy!" She poked him hard in the chest to drive her point home, ignoring the flair of pain it caused. "C'mon Paul, talk to me. You know I'm the one you can talk to, about anything."
Paul met her gaze sadly, shaking his head as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Bella…I can't talk to you because I don't know what to say. You know my history; I've been with nearly every girl between here and Port Angeles, sometimes more than once. I've never had any emotional attachment with any of them, that's how I like it. But Jen…I don't know, there's something about her…something different that I've never felt with any of those girls."
His brow wrinkled as he frowned in confusion before it became a hardened mask. "But it doesn't matter. Jen already made it clear that it was just a benefits thing, and a one-time deal. I'll get over it, don't worry about me. I'm gonna go relieve Seth so he can come join Mikahla and get something to eat. I'll see you later."
Before she could protest he vanished into the trees, leaving her glaring in the rain as she crossed her arms. "Yeah, right."
She turned to go back to the house, wondering how she would force a stubborn shifter and a witch into couple's therapy, when pain flared in her shoulder causing her to fall to her knees as her back arched painfully. She gasped for breath, blinking at the black spots that clouded her vision, and collapsed on her side as everything faded to black. "Jacob…"
Jacob was talking quietly with Sam, the former Alpha giving him tips on making patrol schedules, when his wolf suddenly went nuts in his head, making him double over in pain at the sudden onslaught. He heard the Pack's shouts dimly, his wolf frantically baying as it tried to make him shift in the middle of the living room. Using every ounce of willpower to stay human he finally gained enough strength to mentally shout over the wolf. "Enough!"
It silenced immediately, though it's frantic pacing didn't slow, urging him to go outside. He frowned in confusion, ignoring the questions coming from the others as he slowly tuned into the wolf's racing thoughts. His heart skipped a beat as he finally felt what had sent his wolf into a panic. "Bella…"
A/N: Ok, I know I jumped around a little bit, part of my creative brain is refusing to cooperate with me on blending scenes together so I saved myself the headache. What'd you guys think? Paul and Jen certainly are an interesting pair. And don't worry, we'll get a look into Jacob's head and maybe a couple flashbacks to his and Bella's special night in the next chapter. Drop a review and let me know what you think! I go back and reread them when I get stuck to help me push through the writer's block. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
