AN: I am sorry that publishing two chapters a week is just not working out for me. It isn't out of laziness. I am not saying this for any sympathy, it is just the fact of my life. I sit in a wheelchair all day, and because of it, i have pressure wounds. Three times a week, the wounds have to be cleaned and bandaged. It is very draining. On the other days, I have lymph drainage massage...it also makes me tired. I am just to pushed during the week to concentrate on publishing. I would rather be writing. Then on the weekend, I can take my time and concentrate on publishing the next chapter. I tried, but it was just too much. If things improve later, I will try again for two chapters a week. Thank you for your continued support and reviews. Writing these stories is what keeps me from going totally insane! Now, I will hush and let you read. Enjoy the chapter, things are going to pick up quickly! Thank you again, and have a wonderful and blessed day. All the best, Lady Dragonsblood.
"Where are the children?" Adam asked before Randy could say another word.
"Upstairs with Miz. You remember, Mike Mizanin? They are fine..." Randy saw Dean with Adam. He also saw the doctor's bag in Dean's hand.
Randy continued. "Megan again?" He arched his brow. He wanted the Doctor to hurry up and leave.
"Yes, but she is fine now. Randy, what is going on? You stopped smoking years ago, when I got pregnant." Adam was flustered, something just was not right.
Randy looked agitated. "I'll explain when the Doctor leaves. It's private, Adam." He lit another cigarette. His hand shook a bit.
"Let's go in the house and talk. You can smoke in the kitchen." Adam moved to go into the house.
Randy looked at Dean. "I am sure the Helmsley's are grateful to you, Doctor. Thank you for your service, good day." He gave Dean a firm nod, and hoped his intentions were clear, for Dean to leave.
Adam sighed and took Dean's free hand in his. "Dean isn't leaving, Randy. You and I can talk, in private, in the kitchen. Dean can go up to the children. Dean, come on." He lead Dean up the steps and into the house.
Adam was relived to hear laughter from upstairs. Dean set his bag down on the table in the entry way. He spoke softly to Adam.
"Go talk to Randy, take your time. I'll go up to the little lions. I'm here." Dean squeezed Adam's hand, but saved a kiss till after Adam told Randy about their relationship.
"Thanks, Dean." Adam's reply was simple, but his eyes spoke of his thankfulness that Dean was there.
Dean went upstairs as Adam lead Randy into the kitchen. Adam found the ashtray he kept on hand and put it on the table. He sat down. Randy joined Adam and lit another smoke.
"No, I don't smoke in front of the children. So, what's up with the Doctor?" Randy arched his brow at Adam.
Adam shook his head. "Don't deflect, Randy. I know you. What's wrong? How does it affect the children?"
Randy tapped his cigarette into the ashtray. "We had a bad scare, Saturday night. The children and I had to go to the panic room. Someone tried to break into the house. It's put us all on edge. The kids were scared, but they didn't cry. You know Mike is in charge of security at the office...well, he got spooked too. So now, he's got Ted and Cody staying close… just in case. You know how it is, Adam. Aside from the money, my business creates a lot of enemies because they are jealous. I'm convinced and so are the police, it was just a robbery attempt. After all, I have that Rembrandt and other art. I try to invest money for the future of our children, and people want to steal it. You need to be prepared, just in case the kids have nightmares. See, Mike went a little far and armed Ted and Cody. I'm still shaken." Randy smoked the last of his cigarette and tamped it out.
"Those poor babies. I always though the panic room was silly, but now, I am glad they had a safe place to go, even if it scared them. You protected the babies, Randy, that's what counts. Mike does go too far sometimes though. Want some coffee or something?" Adam took it all in. He believed Randy. It wasn't the first time someone had tried to steal the Rembrandt.
"Coffee, please. So, will you tell me about the Doctor? He looks familiar." Randy relaxed a bit. Adam believed him and seemed okay.
Adam got up to make the coffee. "His name is Dean Ambrose. He's the Chief Physician of the children's ward. He's also a pediatric surgeon. Look, I have never hidden anything from you, Randy. Dean and I, as of Saturday, are an official couple. He really cares about the children and me. He also knows you are very active in the lives of the children and will not interfere in that. He wants to be their uncle or older brother. So, you don't have any thing to worry about in that respect. Knowing Dean, he will tell you that himself. Ran, I'm tired of being alone. I don't know how far it will go with Dean, but I hope it builds into something more. Randy, I will always love you, and you will always have your place in my heart. Dean wants to make his own place there, not take yours. Can you accept that?" Adam poured two cups of the finished coffee. He brought them to the table and sat back down.
Randy lit another cigarette and sipped his coffee. "Yes, I can, Adam. You deserve to be loved. I guess I should tell you, Mike and I are more than just friends and have been for a couple of months. I didn't say anything because I didn't want you to feel even more lonely." He took a drag, exhaled then sipped his coffee.
Adam smiled. "I'm glad you have Mike. He's funny, but he cares about you..." He was halted when Dean came down the backstairs.
"The little lions are fine. They have Mike knee deep in the molasses swamp. They wanted to see you, but I told them daddy had to talk to dad and you would see them soon. They were satisfied." Dean poured himself a cup of coffee.
Adam smiled and patted the chair next to him. "Good. I will go up soon. Yeah, they love Mike. Now, Randy Orton, meet Dean Ambrose. He knows about us, Dean." Adam gave Dean a look that said all was alright.
Dean held out his hand to Randy. He grinned when Randy firmly shook his hand. "Pleasure to meet you. Wow, Jordan is the spitting image of you. Just let me say this. You are their one and only father. I have no intention of getting in your way. All decisions about the children are up to you and Adam. If you give them a rule, I will not do anything to undermine it. I am pleased that you take such an active role in the lives of your children. So many divorced parents don't. I sadly see a lot of the affect on the ward. A sick child wants both parents. Anyway, I hope we can be friends. Just know, that as long as I am around, nothing matters more to me than the welfare and safety of Adam, Jade, Janice, James and Jordan. Now, I will go to the den if you two need to talk privately." Dean spoke honestly and firmly, then sipped his coffee.
"I appreciate that Dean. It makes me feel better that a doctor is with our babies. I also appreciate the respect as their father and will support our decisions about them. Of course, you have a say in what happens when you are with them, they should respect your rules and discipline as well. Adam has probably told you, we are much better as parents and friends, than when we were married. We are just too much alike, and that lead to a lot of conflict. Anyway, you have my blessings, not that you need them, but, I hope you and Adam have a happy relationship. If the time ever comes, I expect an invitation to the wedding..." Randy was halted when his cell phone rang. He looked at the number and stood. Randy stepped out of the kitchen to talk.
Dean gave Adam a quick kiss. "That when pretty well. He seems alright with it. You know him, did he mean it?" He arched his brow at Adam.
Adam sipped his coffee with a smile. "He meant it. Randy is one of the most honest people I know. Sometimes, he's too honest. Dean, will you stay a bit longer? The kids had a real scare over the weekend..." He went on to briefly explain what had happened at Randy's last night.
"… so, they need to feel safe. If you're here when bed time rolls around, reading to them will help relax them. Don't feel obligated." Adam finished with another sip of coffee.
"I'll be here as long as you want me to be. Poor little lions, but, Randy did right in protecting them." Dean stopped talking when Randy returned.
"Gotta go. Been waiting for a call from Japan. I have to be at my computer. I will go say goodbye to the kids. Dean, pleased to meet you. Adam take care, I will call soon." He kissed Adam's cheek, shook Dean's hand and went upstairs to see the children.
Adam looked at Dean and shrugged. "That's Randy. Dean, I believe Randy, I do, but… " He let his words fade as he heard Randy and Mike come down the stairs and go out the front door.
Adam stood. "I'm going to the children. You can come." He hurried up the backstairs, with Doctor Dean Ambrose on his heels.
"Daddy!" Four voices cried out at once. All the children were in James' room. They all ran to Adam and clung to him like Velcro. Adam sank down to the floor and held his children close.
Dean watched with a soft smile. He loved the expression on Adam's face. The blond was in heaven, and totally relaxed. Adam was at home.
"We had to go to a little room. It was scary, daddy. Bad men yelling bad things." James began to tell Adam what had happened.
Dean perked to something and he wanted to find out more. He slid down from the bed to the floor. Jade immediately crawled into Dean's lap. Adam smiled as Dean held his daughter close.
"James, what did your dad tell you?" Dean asked in a way that was curious, not demanding.
James looked at Dean. "To sit down and be very quiet. Bad men probably wanted the Rem… Rom… well, that painting of the old man in a chair." He gave a shrug.
"Rembrandt, James. It was scary, daddy. Mizzie had a big gun." Jade spoke as she curled tighter into Dean's embrace.
Dean thought of something. "What did the policemen say that came?"
Jordan answered. "We didn't see any policemen. We had to sleep in that little room. Then in the morning, daddy made us stay in the room with Mizzie. Dad looked… I dunno… scared, I guess." He too shrugged, unsure of what had really happened.
Adam exchanged a glance with Dean. It was a look of confusion. Dean mouthed, "later", Adam nodded. Their job now was to make sure the children knew they were safe and secure.
Adam thought of a way to cheer the kids. "My darlings, daddy and Uncle Dean have something to tell you. I hope you will be happy."
"You're gonna get married?" Jade asked with happy excitement.
Dean chuckled. "No, baby. But your daddy and I are together as a couple. Do you understand?" He looked at Jade with a grin.
"It means, Uncle Dean is daddy's boyfriend, Jade. I like it." Janice stated with a nod of her head.
Jordan made a face. "Eww, they are gonna kiss all the time."
Jade looked at her brother. "It's not eww, it's romancing." She stuck her tongue out.
"Romantic, sis. I think it's good. Can we go out and play? We had to stay inside at dads." James asked, eyes full of hope.
Adam nodded. "Of course, my loves. After you change into your play clothes. Come down when you're ready." After hugs and kisses, Adam left the children to change. He and Dean waited in the kitchen.
Dean gave Adam a kiss "Gotta hit the head." He hurried off to the bathroom. After he did his business, Dean made a quick phone call. Something didn't sit well, and had to act on his feelings.
Soon four happy children who were dressed in shorts, tee shirts and sneakers, came down the back stairs. They ran over to their daddy. Dean returned from the bathroom, and spoke to the children.
"Lets go play!" Dean opened the French doors that lead to the backyard paradise.
Jade, Jordan, Janice and James all ran out the door and headed for their swing, slide and fort playground.
"Dean, I will make some lemonade, will you go out with them?" Adam asked as he reached for the can of powered drink mix.
Dean gave Adam a kiss. "Yes, I will. I am also glad they like us being together. Jade sure is direct about things." He stood at the door and watched the children.
Adam chuckled. "Yes, she is. She gets that from Randy. Dean… something bugs me. Randy said he spoke to the police, but the kids didn't see and cops. As I said I believe Randy, but, his security is very good. How could ordinary robbers get into his house?" He measured the mix into a pitcher.
Dean thought logically for a moment. "If he kept them in the safe room, they wouldn't have seen the police. As much as we like to think all security systems are secure, if someone really wants to break in, they will. A Rembrandt is worth a few million, it's a big motivation. The children are safe, isn't that what really matters?" He smiled at Adam, while one eye was on the children in the yard.
Adam finished mixing the lemonade. "Yes, it is. Guess the parent brain in me was reading too much into it. I wish it wasn't Sunday, then you could stay." He went to get ice from the freezer.
Dean chuckled. "Roman will be here in about an an hour with my suitcase. If you will let me, I will stay tonight. I can sleep in the guest room. I know I'd feel better if you agree to let me stay." He smirked his impish smirk at Adam.
Adam went to Dean and hugged him. "I knew there was a reason I care for you. Yes, please stay, and not in the guest room. Now, help me carry this." He gave Dean a kiss.
"Eww! I told you! They are kissing!" Jordan exclaimed as he stood on the patio.
Adam and Dean both laughed. Adam spoke. "Mind your own paper, Jor. Now, help daddy and carry the cups, please."
Jordan took the stack of blue plastic cups Adam had put out. Adam carried the pitcher, Dean the ice bucket and Jordan followed with the cups. They put everything down on the picnic table. Jordan ran back to play.
Adam glanced around his backyard. He took comfort in the high, privacy fence with the shock wires that ran across the top. He knew Dean was right though, if someone wanted in, they could, but he also knew it would be extremely difficult. Adam also knew he had a secret weapon.
Adam looked at Dean as they sat side by side to watch the children play. He knew he had to tell Dean, safety depended on it.
Adam leaned in to speak softly to Dean. "You need to know something. Only myself, Randy and Ida know about it. Promise, not a word, not even the Helmsley's know." He was deadly serious as he spoke.
Dean looked at Adam, just as serious. "You know I won't. Let me guess, there is a safe room in the house? Makes sense that Randy would have one set up here too." He remained serious. Dean knew it was a threat, Adam, by default was wealthy and the house did have valuable things in it. The children, of course, were the most valuable.
Adam shook his head with a cross between a snicker and a chuckle. "It's behind the full length mirror in the upstairs bathroom, across from James' room. I thought Randy was crazy, but now, not so much. We've never once used it. But, I would if I had to. Oh, to get in, press the upper right hand corner in the Konami Code. I'll show you." Adam leaned back in his chair.
"Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B. A. Yeah, you'd better show me how that works on a mirror with no buttons. Randy is smart if nothing else. When does Ida get back?" Dean looked at his watch. There was still some time before Roman would arrive.
Adam looked at his watch. "In an hour or so, around five thirty or six. I hope you don't mind beans and weenies for supper. Janice got to pick this week. On the weeks they go to Randy's, one gets to pick the Sunday welcome home dinner. Jan picked it along with mac and cheese." Adam laughed and began to fill cups with ice, the kids were headed for them and looked hot and thirsty.
Dean poured lemonade into ice filled cups. "Why don't you sit down, take a breath, and sip your lemonade. Can't have lions with bellyaches. Little lions, I want to say something. Will you listen carefully?" Dean asked he looked at the four children who sat round the picnic table.
James spoke up. "Yes, Uncle Dean. We will listen." He gave his brother and sisters a stern look, especially Jade.
Dean nodded. "I care about you and your daddy, very much. However, I am not your father. I don't want his place in your hearts, I want my own place there, just for me. I told you before, you can come talk to me about anything at anytime, like a friend, uncle or big brother. I promise to always take care of you and your daddy. I need to know, are you really alright with daddy and I being together as a couple?" He looked each child in the eye.
Janice looked at Dean. "Daddy has had two special friends, and we liked them. They left daddy and we never saw them again. It wasn't nice. What happens if you leave daddy?"
Dean looked at Janice. "Honey, I am sure daddy and I will argue sometimes. That is part of caring about someone. But, if something does happen, and daddy and I aren't special friends anymore, does not mean you will lose me I will always be here for you. I don't forget my friends, ever. I promise, I will be there for you. I don't ever break my promises. Sorry to have to say this, but you are stuck with me, no matter what, till you tell me to go away. Cross my heart and hope to die, I have never told a lie." Dean crossed his heart to prove his words.
"He means it, my darlings. We had a long talk about it last night. Daddy will never stop you from being friends with Uncle Dean. Even if he and I don't like each other. Uncle Dean is different from daddy's other two friends, I promise." Adam added to what Dean had said. He hoped his quads understood.
"But you could get married one day." Jade spoke in a bit of a sing-song voice.
Dean looked at Jade and gave her a wink. Adam saw the wink and wondered if that was Dean's intentions. He decided it might be worth keeping in mind… it wasn't a terrible thought, was it?
James spoke. "We understand, daddy. We just want you happy. We like Uncle Dean better than those other two anyway." He was the most aware of the quadruplets.
"I am happy, James. Sometimes daddy gets lonely and having a special friend like Dean makes daddy feel safe and cared for. Daddy makes Dean feel the same. Now, go play and have fun, school tomorrow." Adam waved his children back to their play area.
Dean's cell phone alerted. "Oh, Ro is here. You've got to come turn the alarm off."
Adam wiggled his finger at Dean. Dean stood next to Adam. Adam cupped his hand around Dean's ear. "EDGE 1973" He gave Dean a wink.
"Thanks for the trust, baby." Dean hurried off to Roman. Adam had just given him the security code to the house. That was a major chunk of trust from Adam.
In the driveway, Dean gave Roman a brief explanation, but didn't mention the scare the kids had over the weekend.
"Seth will over the moon. Can I tell him?" Roman asked as he got Dean's duffel bag out of his car.
Dean grinned and took his bag. "First, thanks for doing this, I owe you one. Yes, but please, tell him in the morning. I don't want Adam on the phone all night with Seth. Know what I mean?"
Roman laughed. "Yeah, I do, you dog. No, I am really happy for you, D. I know you've waited a long time for a chance with Adam. I hope it works out, I really do. Those kids and Adam need a good guy like you in their lives. Well, I gotta go, ordered from Tony's, Seth had a craving." Roman shook Dean's hand.
Dean waved to his friend, then took his bag into the house. He carefully reset the security code. It suddenly turned off. Dean was confused. He knew how to set a security system. Just as he started to re-enter the code, he heard the door from the kitchen to the garage open. Now he got it. Ida had entered the code to cancel the system. Dean smiled when Ida entered the code and the system was once again armed.
Adam came into the kitchen as Dean did. "I thought I was insane..." Dean quickly explained what had happened with the security system. Ida and Adam laughed. Ida looked at the couple. She knew something had happened.
"I take it you two have something to say?" Ida looked at Adam more like an anxious mother than a housekeeper.
Adam actually giggled. "Yes, mamma Ida. Dean and I are a couple. We want to start a foundation to build on. But, I want to know, how is your mother?" Adam was worried for his dear friend.
Ida gave a slight smile. "She was good this weekend. Nancy Wilson spent time with her. The exercises helped a bit. Mom remembered more, and for a bit longer. Nancy said keeping her blood rate stronger helps the brain. I'm sure the two you understand that part. I just understood mom remembered more today. Now let see, it was Jan's turn. Beans, weenies and macaroni and cheese. Out, so I can cook." She put on her apron and waved the couple away.
Adam gave Ida a kiss on the cheek. "Yes, ma'am. I'm happy about your mom. Dean, take your stuff up, I will be outside."
Dean laughed when Adam ran to his children and climbed up into the "fort" tower. Dean started to go the stairs, and Ida spoke.
"Hurt them and you will regret it." Ida spoke firmly, but had a gleam in her eyes.
Dean nodded. "I won't Miss Ida. They mean too much to me." She nodded back, with respect.
Ida started dinner. Dean took his bag upstairs to Adam's bedroom. It was then he noticed something.
Adam had all kinds of family pictures up around the room. But none of them had Randy in them. Dean knew what he had to do. Drakes photo on his bedside table at home had to go; it was finally time.
Meanwhile, in his own mansion, on the other side of town, Randy Orton sat at the head of a large table in the basement. It wasn't an ordinary, dirty, musty basement. It was a house, in a house. Only the nine men in the room knew about it. Randal Orton and his eight lieutenants.
Like his rival, Vincent McMahon, Randy's lieutenants were sons of powerful mob bosses. Mike Mizanin was not only Randy's lover, he was the head lieutenant. The others were Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes, Heath Slater, Zack Ryder, AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison.
Randy Orton was beyond angry, he was furious. "How in the fuck did McMahon's goons get into my house, when my children were here?"
Ted spoke. "We are not sure, but we think someone in the organization is a double crossing rat. Trust me, we are working on it. We have to be very careful. McMahon is leaving bodies in the river. The cops are getting nosy. Maybe your detective friend knows something."
Randy growled. "Oh yes, I am just going to walk up to the man my ex regards as a father and my children as a grandfather and ask those kinds of questions? As far as he and everyone else thinks, I am a solid, honest, upstanding self made millionaire, and business man. No fucking way, Teddy boy. Adam and the children can never learn about the real Randal Orton, ever. I would lose my babies and that can not happen." He banged the table with his fist so hard, eight men jumped.
Mike gently laid his hand over Randy's. "They won't find out. You know, there is… you can take them… arrange for Adam to have a fatal accident. I know that is your last resort, but, it may come to that if we can't get McMahon under control."
Randy violently shook his head. "No! That will not happen. It would devastate our children. Keeping them safe is number one. Adam has a new boyfriend, we can't have him getting suspicious. And he is not to be harassed. He is a children's doctor, that is too important. I know it might make one look weak, but family is number one of the code. Just find the leak and plug it up. I will not have my children in fear again. Anyone have anything to report?" He looked at his men.
Heath Slater spoke. "Jericho has negotiations with McMahon. The contract at Saint Luke's could be in danger. Jericho is still pissed he lost it in the first place. Randy, we may have to give McMahon a kickback. Maybe it would get him off our asses."
Randy growled again. "No fucking way. That would kill my reputation in the district. The very least I might do is deepen the discount. That would be seen as a goodwill gesture to the district commanders. AJ, crunch some numbers at the office tomorrow. If McMahon has any common sense, he will accept and make a truce. See if we can throw some schedule ones at him. He can sell them on the street."
John Morrison took a turn to speak. "Sorry, but pharmaceuticals are new to me. My family deals only in weapons. What is a schedule one?"
Randy smiled at Morrison. "That's why you're here, John. To supply weapons. Don't worry about pharmaceuticals. However, since knowledge is power, schedule ones include things like heroin, LSD, and Quaalude. Maybe add some schedule twos also. John, those are things like, Demerol, Oxycontin, Fentanyl, morphine and codeine. We can… throw samples around and no one will miss them. See, a company will send samples to Orton Pharmaceuticals, hoping we will place their products. Now, a sample of a schedule two drug may only have a single dose for a patient to try. But, multiply those samples by ten thousand… understand?" He looked hard at John Morrison.
"Got it, boss. I will stick to weapons. Drugs are for losers, like McMahon. Thanks." John Morrison sat back was glad that weapons were just weapons.
Randy spoke again. "The security code on the house has been changed. Only myself and Mike know, so be careful. I will have to tell Adam, but, only I will know when I will tell him. Don't think it's because I don't trust any of you, because you are the only ones I do trust. But, I never want to see my children so frightened ever again. Let's be honest, in our game, things can be tortured out of people. If you don't know, it can't be extracted. Sorry, but recent events mean I have to tighten up everywhere, understand?"
Eight men nodded. "It's for the best boss." Zack Ryder spoke up for the others.
"Boss, no disrespect, but why does Adam need to know the security code?" Heath asked, brow arched.
Randy guffawed lightly. "Two reasons. First, because of the children. If something happens, he may need to get into the house. Second, because he gives me the same respect with his code. The last person you have to worry about is Adam. Now, let's get down to the real business. John, what is happening with the deal for that group in the Middle East?"
The meeting in Randy's secret basement continued. It was a lot of work to be a Mafia boss and run a huge multi-million dollar business.
At Adam's house, dinner was well under way. They enjoyed the meal that Janice had requested. Even Dean loved it.
Jordan slapped his forehead. "Oh no! I forgot to do my math workbook! Dad was going to help me, but… daddy, help me? I can't get my abacus right. It's just one workbook page. I hate math."
Adan nodded. "I know, kiddo. Math was hard for me too. I'll help, as best I can. Why can't they stick with simple numbers."
Dean chuckled. "Maybe I can help. I have an abacus. A friend from Japan sent it to me years ago. Can't be much different on paper."
Both Adam and Jordan looked relieved. "Thanks, Uncle Dean. I will take that help. Sorry daddy." Jordan gave Adam a shrug.
Adam ruffled Jordan's hair. "It's okay, Jor. You two can do that and I will help your brother and sisters. Hair washing tonight." All of Adam's children had long hair. The girls could almost sit on their hair, but Adam kept the ends trimmed. The boys hair fell past their shoulders. The Academy didn't care, as long as it was neat, clean and pulled back off the face.
"Sounds good. Then I can take my bath. Uncle Dean, thanks. Will you stay and read to us?" Jordan asked as he finished his supper.
Adam answered. "Uncle Dean will read to you, only if everyone behaves during hair washing and drying. That means you Miss Jade." He gave Jade that look of parental warning.
"I will try, daddy. But will you please try not to pull too hard." Jade pouted. She had a lot of natural curl in her hair that easily tangled. Sometimes Adam accidentally pulled too hard.
"I'll do my best, I promise. Tell you what, you can have one free yell." Adam smiled at his daughter.
After the meal ended, each child took their dirty dishes to the sink and thanked Ida for the delicious food. Dean, Adam and the quadruplets went upstairs.
Dean went to Jordan's room to help him with his math. Adam took Jade and Janice to his bathroom. For hair washing, they could play in Adam's huge tub as he scrubbed their hair. He knew, at seven years old, they could wash their own hair, but Adam hated to give it up. He knew though, that soon he would have to stop. One more baby thing he would lose. It made him a bit sad.
Dean and Jordan made quick work of the math workbook. Dean explained it so well, Jordan worked another page in his workbook for extra credit.
Dean took the two boys into the master bedroom. Adam had the girls, in their nightgowns, sitting on the blanket chest at the end of the bed. Adam dried and brushed Jan's hair while Jade waited for her turn. When Dean and the boys came into the room, Adam turned off the hair dryer. Jan was done.
"You take the boys, I will finish Miss Jade." Dean gave Adam a wink. Maybe Jade would behave for him, for the sake of the story later.
"Deal. Jor, did you get your math figured out?" Adam asked as he lead the two boys into his bathroom. Jordan explained with excitement as Adam closed the door.
Dean picked up the hair brush He could see Jade's hair was bit of a tangled mess. "Well, little lioness, let's see what I can do."
"Just don't pull my hair like daddy does." Jade spoke with a bit of a pout. Janice left to go to her room, she didn't want to listen to Jade scream.
Dean began to gently untangle Jade's naturally wavy hair. He did it without a single pull. When he used the hair dryer, he worked the brush in a way that avoided pulls and tugs. The more Dean worked, the more relaxed Jade became.
When Dean finished, Jade grinned. "Not one pull! How did you do that, Uncle Dean?" She hugged his neck.
"I had a little sister, her name was Cathy. She had really long, curly hair. I learned how to take of it when she got sick. Eventually, the medicine she took, made all her hair fall out. Mom got her a wig, like Cathy's real hair. So, I also learned how to keep it neat and tangle free." Dean explained with a bit of a sad sigh.
Jade frowned. "She went to Heaven, didn't she?"
"Yes, lioness, she did. But up there, she isn't sick any more and she is with grandma and grandpa." Dean quickly swiped his eyes. Jade hugged Dean even harder.
Adam and the boys had come out of the bathroom. Adam had heard what Dean said to Jade. His heart ached for his boyfriend.
"Daddy! Uncle Dean didn't pull! Can he do my hair always?" Jade asked as she got up to let her brothers sit.
"We'll see. Now go get your sister and your story book. Boys hair won't take long." Adam smiled at his daughter.
Soon all the children sat in the middle of Adam's bed. Adam had his arms around his quads. Dean read about Henny Penny and the falling sky. Dean read with his usual funny voices.
After the story, Dean and Adam tucked the four children into their beds. They all stated how happy they were that Uncle Dean was there and daddy was so happy.
Dean took his shower and Adam got ready for bed. It was just ten o'clock, but five am came early.
Adam fell asleep in Dean's arms. He felt safe and cared for. It was a feeling he could get used to.
Dean fell asleep with a smile on his lips. He felt safe and cared for It was a feeling he could get used to.
On the other side of Kansas City, Randy Orton tried to sleep. His lover was downstairs taking a turn on security watch. Randy's mind churned.
Randy knew in order to keep his children safe, he might have to take full custody of them… through Adam's death.
