Adam was delighted to see his children at dinner. All four of them and Adam talked a million miles a minute. Dean just sat back, ate his dinner and loved every singe chaotic minute of it.

When the chaos slowed down, Adam spoke to his children. "After dinner, while you watch the Muppet Show, I need to talk to Uncle Dean alone. I promise it won't be long." He spoke to all four, but looked at James as the the leader of the quads.

"Sure, daddy. We don't mind." James gave Adam a big smile.

"Thank you, my darlings. Oh, Miss Ida, please make me a sandwich for my break? I forgot how stale the machine sandwiches are. Nothing too big though." Adam asked the housekeeper with a smile and a playful pout.

Jade spoke up. "Please, Miss Ida. Daddy can't eat old food. He can have my peanut butter." She was truly worried for her daddy.

Ida smiled. "Don't worry, honey. I already made your daddy a nice sandwich to take to work."

"Oh thank you, Miss Ida. Daddy gets cranky when he gets hungry. Can't break his nerve you know." Jade gave Ida a huge smile.

Adam patted Jade's head. "Thank you, baby. Yeah, daddy doesn't need a broken nerve. Now, finish up, help Miss Ida, then Muppets."

An hour later, Dean and Adam were up in Adam's bedroom. They sat cross-legged on the bed and talked.

"There was a big rumor going around today, that McMahon caved and offered the contract back to Randy. So, we'll see. By the way, as you know, Drake came through. He acted humble, but there wasn't a humble bone in his body. I'm even more sure than ever he is up to something. However, I will be his friend at work. You know, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Maybe, if I'm nice to him, something will slip. So, tell me about Justin." Dean filled Adam in on all the news he'd heard at St. Luke's.

"First, I hope that's true. Ten patients makes for a very slow night shift. I trust your judgment about Drake. But, better to be friends at work. All I really care about is that Martin Miller has his wheelchair. I would have loved to have seen his face. Tell me, please?" Adam asked with excitement.

Dean chuckled. "Martin raced Drake down the hall. His mom cried and his dad was grateful. I have to give Drake credit, that part was real, he did enjoy himself. Now, what about Justin? Do I need to be jealous?"

It was Adam's turn to chuckle. "Not a bit. You know, we didn't talk enough for me to know if he is gay, bi or straight, not that it matters, I only have eyes for you. Now, that said, he did ask me for breakfast on Friday. It would be nice to make a new friend. I said I had to talk to you about it first. Maybe you could even join us." Adam spoke with direct honesty. He also looked Dean in the eye.

"You don't need my permission, baby. But I do love the honesty. I hope he can be a friend, sounds like a nice guy. I could join you, but, I don't want you to think I don't trust you. I'd like to meet him, Doctor to new nurse. I have private patients all week, but Friday. I will do what you want, baby." Dean too spoke honestly.

Adam leaned over and kissed Dean. "I knew you'd say that. You come for breakfast, you should meet him. Ask him to tell you the story about the rabbit and the lion." He gave Dean another kiss.

"Little Mary? She loves stories. Okay, I will be there Friday. If the contract does get settled, there will be at least three new patients from me. I pray it's true." Dean gave a bit of a sigh.

Adam pulled Dean into his arms. "Randy cares about kids. If McMahon offers him the contract back, he will do it. I have faith in him. I have to." Adam smiled when Dean returned his embrace.

"I wish we had time to… trust me, Saturday morning, I am pounding your hole so hard." Dean gave Adam a kiss to seal his words.

Adam giggled. "I'll let you. We'd better get downstairs. Oh, guess I will change for work first."

"Go ahead. I will go to the little lions. Don't take too long." Dean gave Adam another kiss, then a swat on the butt. Adam yelped but he got up. He changed into his scrubs as Dean went downstairs.

All too soon, Adam was at the hospital.

Justin met Adam at the door. The two nurses clocked in. They got the shift change report, then settled in at the nurse's station.

"Nine. Oh little Mary was dismissed. That's good." Adam stated as he reviewed the more detailed shift report.

Justin smiled. "That's good. The only thing I don't like about nights is we don't hear the news, or get a chance to say goodbye." He gave a sigh.

"As you know, Randy Orton of Orton Pharmaceuticals is my ex-husband and father of the quads. If they do offer Randy the contract back, he will do it. He cares about the kids. Dean said if that happens, we will be open to new patients. Maybe as early as tomorrow. Dean has three patients waiting." Adam didn't want Justin to think he had anything to do with the contract dispute.

Justin looked at Adam with a soft smile. "I realize you had nothing to do with any dispute, Adam. Oh, say, did Doctor Ambrose say anything about Martin Miller's wheelchair or is that gossip?" He arched his brow at Adam.

Adam smiled in return at Justin. "No, it isn't really that kind of gossip. He did say Martin was thrilled and raced Drake down the hall. His parents cried and were grateful. Thanks for the other. Some gave me dirty looks when the dispute mess broke out. I actually know nothing about Randy's business. Even when we were married. I can count on one hand the times I've even been to his office." Adam shrugged.

"You aren't responsible for what he does Adam, can I ask? Is he a good father? I am not being too nosy, am I? It's just, I kinda miss having a friend to talk to." Justin gave Adam a hope filled look.

Adam again smiled. "It's okay, Justin. I don't mind. Randy is a wonderful father. He has them every other weekend. He pays for their private school and other things. We also decided I would keep the house, it's the only home the kids have known. So, tell me about you. Boyfriends? Girlfriends?" Adam thought it best to trade information for information. Everyone knew about Randy anyway.

"Well, I've had both actually. As I have gotten older, I tend to check out guys more. I really haven't dated a lot. It sounds…so stupid, but my father was very protective of me. He's not upset that I prefer men, so that's good. Don't get me wrong but I am kind of glad to…be out from under his thumb. I can make my own choices now. I love my father, but, he was...controlling...oh, I sound horrible." Justin said more than he ever intended, but Adam was so warm and inviting.

Adam nodded. "I understand what you mean, Justin. Randy's dad was the same when Randy was younger. Randy and I did love each other and had a good marriage, for the most part. When we split up Randy said part of the reason he wanted to get married was to prove to his father he could run his own life. His dad was and still is protective and hard on him. So, enjoy your new life here, but, don't go crazy." Adam gave Justin a wink.

Justin laughed. "Yeah, I got it. I am not a player type. I would like to find that one person and have a family..." He was interrupted by a patient call. Both Justin and Adam went to the patient.

Adam ran back to the station. He pulled out his cell phone and called Dean. "Dean, me. Raymond's legs won't stop shaking…okay...fifty milligrams Dopamine, inter-muscular injection...yes...I will...thanks, bye." Adam ended the call. He quickly went to the med room and prepared the injection. He locked the room and ran to Raymond's room.

Justin sat on the bed and held Raymond. Adam came into the room. "Fifty mg, inter-muscular. Try to hold his legs steady. I will be quick..." Adam spoke to Justin, then Raymond. "This will help, kiddo. Be brave for me."

Justin held Raymond's trembling legs. Adam quickly injected the medication, swiped the spot with an alcohol rub and applied a round, blue bandage.

After about five minutes, Raymond's legs stopped shaking. Raymond smiled. "I feel better. Thank you. Can I sleep now?" Raymond asked with a yawn.

Adam grinned. "Of course, kiddo?"

"Come on, I'll tuck you in." Justin smiled. He tucked Raymond snugly into bed.

"If it starts again, you call us. Sleep tight, kiddo." Adam rubbed Raymond's head gently.

"Okay." Raymond yawned and fell asleep.

At the nurse's station, Adam charted the medication in Raymond's chart. "I have to call Dean." Adam pulled out his cell phone and called Dean.

"Hey, Dean. It's me…yes, in about five minutes...sound asleep...yes, I will...thanks, Dean...love you...Dean!...yeah, me too...goodnight." Adam ended the call with a bright flush on his face.

Justin smirked a bit. "Good thing it wasn't on speaker, huh? Hey, why not, you are a couple."

"Yeah, well… On the serious side, he said if the tremors start again, to call him immediately and he will come in. He can't give more Dopamine without being here." Adam put Raymond's chart back in the rack.

"Won't that leave your children alone?" Justin asked with concern. He wanted to get as much information as he could, any tiny thing could be used as a weapon.

"Oh, Ida is there. She's our live in housekeeper, cook, nanny and adopted grandma." Adam spoke honestly, Justin had really looked worried.

"Oh sorry. I should have known you had someone to look after your kids. Can I ask though, why call Doctor Ambrose instead of the on call Doctor in Emergency?" Justin was curious as a nurse new on the staff.

"It is a bit different up here in our ward. We always consult the Physician of record first. He will decide to give medication, come in, or call up the ER Doctor. They have a better better knowledge of their own pediatric patients." Adam explained the ward protocol.

Justin made a note. "Good to know. I would have called the ER Doctor."

"Justin, that is my fault. I should have explained it last night. I feel just terrible." Adam felt so stupid. He'd forgotten to tell Justin the important information.

"Adam, honey. Calm down. It's okay. You would have told me, but the situation didn't come up last night. I know the protocol now, that's what counts." Justin laid a hand on Adam's shoulder and spoke calmly.

Adam smiled. "Thanks, Justin. I'm really sorry. Okay, we'd better do a round. I'll go right, I want to check on Raymond."

"Sure thing. Mind if I pop in on him too?" Justin asked as they left the station.

Adam grinned. "Not at all. I'd do the same."

Two hours later, Adam and Justin were in the break room. Adam made a fresh pot of coffee and took his lunch bag out of the fridge.

"Stop! Don't eat that stale machine sandwich. I will share mine. Knowing Ida, half the fridge is on mine." Adam laughed.

Justin laughed too. "Thanks. I should make a lunch, but I am too lazy." He poured two cups of coffee and sat down with Adam.

Adam opened his lunch bag. He unwrapped his sandwich. "I was right. Triple ham and cheese. Here." He gave Justin half of the huge sandwich.

"Wow, thank you, very much. Oh, what about breakfast on Friday morning?" Just spoke then bit into his sandwich.

Adam chewed, swallowed then spoke. "I will be glad to. I am looking forward to it." Something in his head suddenly said not to mention Dean might be there too. The feeling was so strong, he obeyed it, but why?

Just was oblivious to the alarm in Adam's head. "That's great. I look forward to it too. Your Miss Ida makes fantastic sandwiches."

"Yes, she does..." Adam opened his lunch bag again. "Ah, I thought so. Chocolate cake and two apples. Enough for both of us." He opened the container with the cake.

"Oh, I appreciate that, Adam, but, I see nuts in the cake. I am allergic, nut allergy. I have to be really careful. Sometimes, I can react badly. That's why I wear this." He showed Adam the medical alert bracelet he wore.

Adam quickly put the lid on cake. "I thought that was a watch. I am glad to know, just in case. Nut allergies can be severe. We often treat them here. Sadly, we lost one twelve year old. You'd better write an allergy notice, see..." Adam pointed to a poster on the break room wall. The poster had names of staff with their allergies or other medical issues.

Justin stood. He went over and added his name to the list and why. "Thanks, Adam. I am glad I said something. Two others have nut allergies too. I guess that comes in handy when others bring in treats. I always make those cereal marshmallow things, they are usually allergy friendly." He sat back down and bit into one of the apples.

Adam laughed. "Me too, or more like Ida makes them. I tend to burn boiling water."

Justin snickered. "At least I can cook. My mother taught me before she died. She got cancer last year. She went so fast." He turned sad and put the apple down.

Adam frowned. "I lost my mom when I was fifteen..." he went on to briefly explain and told about his relationship with the Helmsley's. "...so, Shawn is my father figure, Hunter too, and Megan is like my own." Adam finished with the last bite of his sandwich. He saved the cake out of respect that Justin couldn't eat it.

Justin smiled. "Sounds like they are good friends." He'd just gotten more information he could file away on Adam.

"Yes, they are. Thanks to the pump, they are all doing better than they have in a long time. Megan deserves that." Adam spoke with a fond smile on his face.

Justin too the open to try to find out more. "I am glad Doctor Ambrose was able to get a pump, especially with the contract mess. Those pumps aren't normal shelf stock." He took it slow, but hoped it would lead to more.

Adam finished his apple an wrapped the core in the sandwich foil. "Yes, he did a wonderful thing. He would have done it for any patient, not just Megan." He tossed the foil into the trash and filled their coffee cups to take back to the station.

As they walked back to the nurse's station, Justin thought. He needed the name of the man in Saint Louis who had helped Ambrose get the pump. He knew the McMahon's wanted to warn the man to never do something like that again. Justin needed to get Adam more on his side.

They settled into the station, with some time before the second round of patient checks. Justin read from the hospital policy manual. He wanted Adam to see he was eager to learn.

Adam quietly did some work on the morning med list for Lita. He had the time so why not.

Two hours later, they did their second round. Both Adam and Justin checked on Raymond. He was sleeping soundly and hadn't moved a twitch, and he was still completely covered.

Back at the nurse's station. Justin spoke as they charted the round. "That's a good sign, that Raymond was still covered. It means the Dopamine works well. Doctor Ambrose will probably add, to give it when needed." Adam wrote in the chart that Raymond slept and his bed covers were still on.

Justin nodded. "You're probably right. It's what I would do...I think. Anyway, what is fun to do here in Kansas City?" He too wrote in a chart. He had to cover his medical knowledge up quickly, but Adam didn't seem to pick up on it.

"All kinds of museums, big and small. The KC museum is very close to my place and one of our favorite. Of course the professional sports teams, and Worlds of Fun. If you want a change for a weekend, Saint Louis is a nice place. My kids just had a VIP experience at the Muny. Randy and his father took them to see The Lion King. We went to the museum there a couple of weeks ago. For the size of Kansas City, there really a lot to do." Adam spoke fondly of his beloved adopted hometown.

"Oh, you went with Doctor Ambrose to Saint Louis? It is my dream to go up in the Gateway Arch." Justin wondered if that was where Ambrose met his friend to get the pump. Maybe he could get Adam to let something slip, but he had to be very careful.

Adam nodded. "Yes, we were. It was a chance for Dean to spend some time with the children. We didn't do the Arch, we went to the City Museum. If we go back, the kids want to go to Grant's Farm."

"Oh that's where the Clydesdales are right? I'd love to see that too. Did you go to that special Royals, Cardinals baseball game? It was a couple of weeks ago. My condo neighbors had a huge watch part at the community pool." Justin pried a bit more. He knew from the debriefing meeting, Ambrose hadn't gotten the pump at the museum. He did know Ambrose had gone to the stadium, but hadn't met anyone...that Barrett and Bálor had seen.

Adam shook his head. "No, we hung out at the pool. Dean taught the quads how to dive." Adam broke out in a bit of laughter.

Justin was curious. "Funny memory?"

Adam chuckled again. "We have a pool at home, but the kids wanted to be at the indoor pool. I don't know why, but it's funny to me. I guess it's like, the grass is greener on the other side. Sorry, I guess it's a parent thing." He hung his finished charts back in the rack, as did Justin.

"I bet your kids say funny things and ask hard questions. I would love to experience that. You are a lucky man, Adam." Justin spoke with a sigh. He really did want children of his own, and soon.

Adam again chuckled. "They do. My daughter Jade, especially. Because of an old childhood injury, I suffer migraines a few times a year. Anyway, I had one not too long ago. The kids asked Dean why I get them. He explained about the damaged nerve in my neck. Ever since then, if something happens, Jade will say, don't break daddy's nerve. She's so sweet, but, she is also the loudest. Jade also has a bit of an eavesdropping problem. When I chastised her for it, she now calls it dropping eaves. When Jan was the first to lose a tooth, Jordan thought that wrestler guy, The Rock, was coming to the house because of that movie he was in about the tooth fairy. Okay, I did it again. Sorry, Justin. I don't mean to talk so much about my kids. Just punch me and tell me to shut up."

Justin laughed lightly. "Don't worry, Adam. I honestly don't mind. Those are the small, priceless memories that you will remember most of all. I actually know Dwayne Johnson, The Rock. I met him when he came to South Africa. He has a friend there, who is one of my dad's closest friends. He invited us over to meet Dwayne. We exchange Christmas and birthday cards. He's a really nice guy. He also does a lot for children's charities. I wonder...maybe...but...it's a gigantic maybe… but, if I could get him to our fundraiser...but please, say nothing. It would be a very long shot that he would be available. Still, I would be more than willing to ask him." Justin gave a shrug. He'd spoken the truth, he really did know the man. Justin also knew, he'd just scored major points with Adam.

Adam's jaw dropped. "I won't say a single word, but that would be utterly amazing. Jordan would worship you… you know what I mean. Again, I won't say a word, not even to Dean. Biggest thrill of my life was, I got to meet Wayne Gretzky a few years ago. At one of Randy's pharmaceutical dinner conventions. To me, as a Canadian, who teethed on a hockey puck, it was like meeting… God. No disrespect, just a bad comparison. I got a signed puck. I have it framed on the wall in our family den." Adam grinned at the memory of meeting "The Great One." It was one of the best things Randy had ever done for him.

"No, I know what you mean. Meeting a childhood hero is like that. Oh, I'll go?" Justin had been interrupted by a patient call. Adam nodded. He had every faith Justin could handle it. At least it wasn't Raymond.

As Adam made more notes, a cold chill ran down his spine. He wasn't easily spooked, but the feeling was so strong, he actually spun around in his chair. There wasn't anyone in sight. The feeling ebbed, but, his brain was on alert. "Justin, danger." echoed in his head. The thing that really got Adam...he swore it was his mother's voice.

Adam shook himself. He had to be wrong. There was no way Justin was a threat. Adam chalked it up to the darkened hallways and lonely atmosphere. He went back to work and soon felt perfectly normal. Justin returned and pulled a chart as he sat.

"Sally has a problem in the bathroom." He paused and read her chart. "Ah, I need the med room key, please. She can have ten mils of Lactulose." Justin noted as he read Sally's chart.

"Come on it will be faster if I show you where it is." Adam stood. He and Justin went to the med room.

"Up here on the left, the dose cups are in there." Adam pointed to what Justin needed.

Justin got the medication and carefully measured out the dosage into disposable cup. "Thanks. It would have taken me a while to find it. I need to learn the room. I'll take this to Sally. I will stay with her a bit to see if it works. She is a bit scared it won't come out." He gave a little chuckle.

"No problem. I will handle it if we get another call. I'll make you a map, so to speak, of where things are in the med room." Adam spoke as they walked back to the desk.

Adam busied himself making the "map" of the medicine room. He thought there should be one on file anyway. As he worked, he heard his mother's voice again. "Justin, danger." This time Adam was more sure than ever it was Judy Copeland's voice. Adam was now unnerved.

The thing that got to Adam, it wasn't the first time he'd experienced a feeling like this. The first time, Randy and Adam were going to take the quads to St. Louis for the first time, when the quads were only six weeks old. Adam had heard his mother clearly say, "Stay home." He heard her say it three more times. So much so, he convinced Randy to wait a week.

Later that evening, Randy and Adam stared in horror at the news. There had been a thirty car accident, when two semi trucks collided and burst into flames, the trucks were both fully loaded oil tankers. The couple realized they would probably have been caught up in the tragic accident. Judy had kept them safe.

The second time Judy had warned him was just a couple of years ago. Adam was doing his usual errands, and had the kids with him. Adam was going to the bank, one that was not his usual branch. He heard Judy clearly tell him "Stay away." When Adam turned into the bank parking lot, he kept driving and left. Again, that night on the news, Adam was shocked. The branch of the bank was robbed with three killed, at the time Adam and the quads would have been inside. His mother had kept them safe for a second time.

Adam was so consumed in his thoughts, he never heard Justin return and sit down to chart.

Justin could see Adam was a million miles away. He laid a friendly hand on Adam's shoulder. "Adam?" He spoke softly.

When Adam felt a touch, he jumped so violently, the pen in his hand went flying across the room. Adam's heart pounded, his breath came in pants and his eyes were as wide as dinner plates. He also trembled.

Justin felt terrible. He got up to get the pen that had landed at the small seating area. "I am so sorry, Adam. I didn't mean to give you such a fright." He sat down in his chair and held the errant pen out to Adam.

Adam caught his breath and pulled himself back together. "It's okay, not your fault. I was just...lost in thought. I know you didn't mean it. Thanks." He laughed a bit as he took the pen from his fellow nurse.

"No problem. Are you alright? You're a bit pale around the edges. Want some coffee or something?" Justin was truly concerned. Adam looked badly shaken, but why?

Adam nodded. "I'm alright, or will be. No thanks, I'm fine. I am sorry, Justin. I guess the night atmosphere got to me. Now, how is Sally?" He was back to himself.

Justin was wary, but smiled. "Fine, it worked well and quickly. She is asleep again."

"Good. Oh, here. This is a map of the med room. That's what I was doing when I…okay… I was thinking about my mom. I just got lost in memories of her." Adam smiled softly.

"I understand, Adam. I hope they were happy ones. I do the same. I miss my mom too. Thanks for this, it will make it easier for me to learn the room. Guess we'd better start on the shift change report." Justin spoke with a soft smile of his own. He was no longer wary, Adam was fine.

"Tell you what. You write the report and I will do the med list. I think you can handle it. You do know how to do it. I have every faith and confidence. Besides, your handwriting is better than mine." Adam gave Justin a pat on the shoulder with a wink.

"Oh, I see, get the new boy to do the work…" Justin laughed. "Thanks. I appreciate that you have the confidence in me to do it on my second night."

Adam grinned. "Cause I do have faith. You aren't a student, after all."

When Adam got to Dean's Mustang in the parking lot, he smiled. On the passenger seat was a bag of French pastries and a single red rose, and a note from Dean.

Adam slipped into the driver's seat. Adam smelled the sweet rose and opened the note to read. "Hi, baby. Can't stay, meeting Roman after all. I think he needs to talk. Enjoy your breakfast. The little lions send their love. I will see you later. I love you, baby. Dean."

Adam folded the note. He hoped nothing was wrong with Roman or Seth. Adam sighed, he had to stop thinking about the worst. At least it took his mind of his mom.

"He agreed to go to breakfast on Friday morning. So, it will happen, as planned?" Justin asked Stephanie as they once again met for breakfast.

Stephanie nodded with a smirk. "Yes. Hopefully, at some point, he will use the restroom. If not, we will get him as he leaves. Adam will be safely in our care on Friday. Any news on Saint Louis?" She sipped her coffee.

"Not yet, but getting closer. Maybe by tonight he will let something slip. We can always make him tell, once we have him…safe in our care." Justin too smirked.

"Yes, we can. We will have a very powerful weapon. The ability to threaten his children. Adam will sing like a canary to keep those brats safe. Well done, Justin. Do this right and you will be the top man in our elite group." Stephanie's mouth nearly watered at the thought of breaking Randal Orton, even if they had to break Adam first.
