"YOU KNOW WHAT?! YOU'RE SO OVERBEARING AND CONTROLLING! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!"

"NEITHR CAN I! I OUGHT TO BE ALLOWED TO WRITE WHATEVER POETRY I WISH WITHOUT YOU TELLING ME OFF NEE-CHAN!"

"WELL IF NEITHER OF YOU LIKE MY RULES; YOU CAN FIND YOUR OWN PLACE TO LIVE!"

"FINE! WE WILL!"

And with that, the sudden disruption of the peace (i.e. no brawling) of the guild ended as abruptly as it began. Lisanna stormed out of the guild, arms crossed, and a furious expression on her face, Elfman rushed as fast as possible in the other direction towards some of the boys, and Mirajane glowered after them as she tried desperately to hold back her tears.

No one was quite sure what started the fight between the three Strauss siblings (though they could take a good guess, Mirajane had been berating Lisanna for spending too much time with Natsu, and then telling Elfman off for writing an ode to Erza's hair) but it had suddenly exploded until both Lisanna and Elfman declared that they would find somewhere else to live.

This wouldn't be so much a problem, if it wasn't for the fact later that afternoon Natsu found Lisanna unpacking her things in their straw house. "What are you doing?" he blinked. "What are those for?!" he yelled as he pointed at Lisanna's pink frilly knickers.

"Eek!" Lisanna squealed. "Don't look!" she shoved Natsu in the face and stuffed all her knickers hastily back into her rucksack. "And what does it look like I'm doing?"

"I don't know," Natsu's voice came out muffled from the floor, "you told me not to look."

Lisanna and Happy rolled their eyes at that. "I'm moving in," Lisanna said as patiently as possible. "Mira-nee said I should live in my own place if I don't like her rules, so I am. Here."

"But this isn't a real house!" Natsu protested. "It's our playhouse. Made out of straw. You need a proper house that will keep you warm. Like mine!"

"Proper houses are expensive, Natsu," Lisanna said softly, "I don't have much money of my own. Mira-nee kept most of it for the bills."

"What about Fairy Hills?" Natsu scratched his head. "They must be cheap, Erza has like, ten hundred bedrooms, or something."

"It's a hundred thousand jewels a month," Lisanna said miserably, "I could never get such a well-paying job every month without Mira-nee!"

"I could help!" Natsu said eagerly. "And Happy too!"

"Aye Sir!"

"That's sweet guys, really sweet," Lisanna smiled, "but if I went on a job with you, I would never have enough rent money."

Natsu shrugged. "Your loss," he said, "I have to go, Erza wants me to bath again," he shuddered at that as he knew full well it meant seeing Snow Cone and Scary Erza naked. Oh the childhood trauma…..

"Okay," Lisanna said suddenly a little lost, she wasn't quite ready to be left on her own, "have fun."

"How?!" Natsu squawked indignantly. "It's bath time. With Erza!"

He left Lisanna giggling and barely made it half way across the field when he spotted Elfman trying to build his own house….out of twigs.

"Man," he shook his head, "Lisanna and Elfman are so stupid. A house should be made out of bricks, not straw or twigs, even I know that, and I'm an idiot."

"Oh Natsu," Happy said with exasperated fondness which made him sound much older than his few months, "You just called yourself an idiot, moron."

Neither Elfman nor Lisanna had a good night sleep.

As Natsu predicted, it was way too impractical to live in the straw house, as Lisanna discovered when she almost froze to death in the middle of the night, and struggled to find somewhere to go to the toilet. Elfman faced similar struggles and the pair of them avoided asking help from the other because they wanted to this on their own, independently, and make a point to Mirajane.

Lisanna gorged herself on the free breakfast Master had placed before her, and froze when she heard Cana whisper to Levy; "Hey did you hear?! There's a wolf in the woods!" she tried not to let it get to her, after all she had faced the Vulcans plenty of times, what's one silly little wolf?

But then later that evening she heard a terrifying howl, an anguished, angry scream, and Elfman suddenly appeared in her doorway, shaking. "H-h-hey, Lisanna-Chan," he tried to smile but it came out as grimace, "I-I-I don't suppose I can stay here with you? Just for the night!"

"No!" Lisanna snapped indignantly. "I need to do this on my own to prove-"

"Oh please!" Elfman suddenly burst into tears. "My house just got blown to bits by that wolf and I'm really scared and I have nowhere to go, so please, please don't leave me alone, Lisanna!"

Lisanna's heart ached to see her big brother so scared and hurt. He hadn't cried this much since his bird had died and she hated to see him in so much pain. "Oh, Elfman-nii!" she cried out throwing her arms round his neck. "Of course you can stay!"

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"

They settled down in a corner of the straw house, and curled under a blanket together, as they huddled for warmth, and shard a can of cold baked beans for supper. "How on earth did a wolf blow your house up?" Lisanna asked curiously. "Surely that's not possible!"

"Well," Elfman said sheepishly, "I don't think I made my house right. So it was really weak, and all the Wolf did was howl nearby, and blow out some air, and it toppled all over me. I ended up lying very still until it left me, otherwise I might be some wolf's supper!"

Lisanna patted Elfman's hand comfortingly. "Don't worry, Elfman-nii, I'm sure the wolf has fund a nice rabbit for dinner instead and won't come back."

"That poor rabbit!"

Lisanna found her comforting tactic had the opposite effect as Elfman suddenly burst into tears for all the imaginary rabbits in the world that were surely to be eaten by this wolf. Lisanna grimaced as she took to patting her brother's back instead.

And that's when they heard it…..

A howl.

A loud, spine-shivering, howl not so far from them.

And then they heard another one.

And then they heard some heavy breathing that was coming closer and closer.

Lisanna found herself clutched to Elfman's chest and she clung just as tightly back as they heard snuffling and wolfish noises from outsides, and then, and then, and then-

A shadow of a bushy tail, wolf ears, and a snout could be seen on the walls of the straw house.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"

"ME NEITHER!"

The pair of them ran as fast as they could across the field, through the woods, back into Magnolia, past the guild building, until they reached the small little house they had always called home, and banged on the door repeatedly.

"Nee-san! Nee-san!"

"Mira-nee! Mira-nee!"

"Please let us in!"

"I'm sorry!"

"We'll never leave again!"

"I want to come home!"

"Please Mira-nee!"

The door opened, and Mirajane, looking vulnerable and sleepy in her nightie and dressing gown, blinked at them blearily. "Elfman? Lisanna?" she mumbled. "What are you doing here?"

"Mira-nee!"

Mirajane gasped as her younger siblings flung themselves onto her and burst into tears. "There was this wolf!" Lisanna choked out.

"It was going to eat us!" Elfman added.

"I was so scared!"

"Me too, Nee-san!"

"Can we come home?" they asked in unison. "Please?"

Mirajane smiled a rare, warm, smile that lit up her whole face. "Of course you can come home," she said as she tugged them through the front door. "Come here where it's warm and safe."

"Mira-nee!"

As Mirajane was bombarded with rib-crunching hugs, that caused Lisanna to bury her face in her chest and Elfman's face found itself wedged into her shoulders, Mirajane's sweet smile turned into an evil smirk.

Her plan had worked.

(The next morning Mirajane paid Natsu and Happy a visit, she brought with her a month's supply of fresh fish, a giant smoked pig, and heaps of blackmailing material on Gildarts, Laxus, an Gray….and the best thing is Lisanna and Elfman would never know Natsu was the wolf since he didn't set anything on fire, ha! Mira was a genius.)
