Lucy Ashely was ashamed to admit that when she first met Natsu Dragion, she was a bit of a damsel of distress.

She was fourteen years old, one of the true Fairy Tail children, having been brought up alongside Laxus, Cana, and the Strauss siblings since she had been six or seven (she had long forgotten most of her previous life. Apart from her. The only friend, her only protector, the one that the Royal Guard had taken away….), and used to protecting herself from most threats. Magic for anyone who wasn't part of the Royal Guard was getting more and more restricted, and life was becoming more and more dangerous. Lucy had no doubt that sooner or later she would be branded a criminal, and – in true Fairy Tail fashion, she had been reassured by her adoptive father figures- she truly relished the challenge that would bring.

Despite this, despite being that tough fighting girl, Lucy had been caught unawares by a magic she had never encountered before in her life.

Love magic.

Well, okay, not really love. Infatuation, lust, enchantments that dazzled the senses and blinded you with a burning lust that you had never felt.

Lucy had taken a job in an industrial city called Hargeon to take down a slave trader named Bora.

She had never expected to see the most handsome man in the world who suddenly made the earth stop, her heart skip, and her cheeks flush. She was suddenly ready to give him everything and anything he wanted.

Then someone tripped and crashed into the handsome man which made her eyes catch sight of the pheromone ring on his finger –

CRASH!

The love spell broke, and Lucy's eyes was suddenly dragged back to the person that bumped into Bora. He was pathetic looking as hordes of women (who were still under the love spell) were beating on him for daring to bump into Bora, his pink hair stuck out everywhere, and there was something sickly sweet about him.

"Oi!" she snarled as she punched one of the nearest girls. "Beat it! He's mine!"

The others girls stepped back in surprise.

"Ladies, ladies," Bora crooned, "leave the little children alone, they've done nothing harmful to me."

The girls all squealed and suddenly rushed to his side leaving Lucy and the weird boy in the dust.

"T-t-t-thank you," the pink-haired boy stuttered, "f-f-for saving me."

She stared at him in disbelief. He was utterly clueless, he didn't realise at all that he had saved her from being kidnapped by a pervert. "It was nothing," she shrugged.

"N-n-no it wasn't!" he squeaked indignantly. "It was really, really brave of you. Those girls were terrifying."

"Jeeze you know nothing," Lucy sneered, "if you think that's terrifying then you never met a Fairy Tail girl."

"Fairy Tail?!" the boy suddenly jumped up and grabbed her hands. Lucy flushed, no one willingly touched her unless it was Mirajane giving her a rare hug, or Levy trying to take a punch at her, or Bob-san patting her head in praise, or everyone crashing into her during a guild brawl. It felt weird to have someone touch her so willingly and nicely, and he seemed to like it as well as his cheeks were a bright pink that matched his hair. "Do you know Fairy Tail?" he pressed eagerly. "Do you know where I can find them?"

"Why?" she asked suspiciously.

The Royal Guard had been a little too interested in them recently, and all the other guilds were starting to disappear. They hadn't heard anything from Ichiya and the rest of Blue Pegasus.

"I-I-I want to join!" he suddenly burst out. "They can help me you see, help me find my Dad, and help me become brave, I want to be brave so I can make my Dad proud."

Lucy stared at him.

He was so eager, and innocent, and sweet, he reminded her a little of Gray, her sort of adoptive brother who liked to cower under the table and stare out with big innocent eyes beneath many layers of clothes, only this boy peered out beneath his pink fringe, and his shy, eager smile was far more endearing than Gray Surge could ever hope to be.

"Come on," she grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, "you're buying me lunch."

"I am?"

"Yes, you are," Lucy said firmly, "in order to thank me for saving you, and then you're going to tell me all about you, and if I think you're good enough then maybe I'll let you join."

His radiant eyes and pleased smile made her stomach flutter weirdly.

He spilled everything at lunch, told her all about himself, Natsu Dragion, car racer, constantly anxious, and possibly an orphan, and how much he had always admired Fairy Tail, how his father had mentioned them once, and he was so sure that if anyone knew where he was it would be them, and how much he resented the government for limiting the magical lacrima liquid that fuelled his car. His car, apparently, was his baby.

They parted ways with a promise to meet up later, Lucy wanted to finish her job and Natsu apparently had to get a part for his car, and that was when she got kidnapped by the creepy slave trader.

She did not want to talk about it but the only reasons she hadn't escaped on her own was because the pervert tied her up, gagged her, and took her whip away.

He dumped her into the boot of his car and drove off, she tried desperately not to cry those angry tears that were welling up in her eye, and wondered if she would ever get to see her friends again – her family.

And that was when the car was suddenly rammed by something and crashed into a wall. Lucy's whole body jolted and bashed repeatedly against the boot walls, she knocked her head repeatedly, and felt dizzy with nausea.

She laid there wondering if her kidnapper was dead or something, and desperately tried to listen for some signs of rescue, when the boot opened, the light blinded her, and suddenly gentle hands were hauling her out of the boot.

She was cradled in the surprisingly strong arms of Natsu Dragion, who suddenly seemed taller, stronger, more confident, and heroic as he carried her to his car, buckled her into the seat, rushed to his side, slid in, and drove off with quickly with a blazing fury she didn't think possible for the shy boy.

"Hey babe, you're gonna need to give me directions sooner or later," he drawled. "Can it be sooner? I don't have enough lacrima to drive round aimlessly at your pleasure, sweetheart." She glowered at him and made an angry noise behind her gag. "Oh, yeah, that," Natsu smiled sheepishly, he leaned over, one hand still on the steering wheel, and yanked the gag down from Lucy's mouth, she shrieked at the burning sensation that caused. "You okay, babe?"

"Who the hell are you calling babe?!" Lucy snarled. "And what the hell happened to you? You were so….so….so pathetic earlier and now…" she trailed off, her cheeks burning as her lips had been.

And now he was sexy, was what she definitely didn't say out loud.

"Don't call me pathetic!"

"Well don't call me babe!" Lucy shot back.

"Sure thing, sweetheart," Natsu smirked in reply, "now, directions?"

"I'm not telling you a damn thing until you untie me!" Lucy snapped. "And don't call me sweetheart either!"

Natsu slammed on the brakes which caused Lucy to jerk forwards, painfully, she was half certain he did it on purpose, but then under his arrogant, cocky (sexy, her brain added traitorously), mask, there was a softness in his eyes that made her stomach flutter, and a gentleness in his touch as he cut through the ropes that made her skin flush.

The moment she was free, and Natsu seemed distracted enough with just staring at her (real freaky like with his eyelids half closed, and a soul penetrating look that made Lucy shift uncomfortably just a little bit), Lucy leaped into attack mode, and tackled her saviour out of the car before pinning him to the floor.

"Lucy Elbow Screwdriver!" she yelled triumphantly as she twisted his arm back and bashed his elbow into the ground forcefully. Natsu squealed in pain. "Lucy Knee Screwdriver!" she did the same to his knee. "Lucy-"

"I'm sorry!" Natsu wailed as tears fell down his cheeks rapidly. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to be so rude! It's just when I get behind the wheel I….I…I change, please don't hurt me anymore, I'm sorry!"

Lucy dropped Natsu's neck instantly and rolled him over so she could look at his face properly. He seemed sincerely sorry for getting her so flustered, though he probably didn't know he did get her so flustered, and he was so endearingly sweet, that Lucy instantly felt guilty and desire at the same time.

"It's okay," she patted his cheek gently and grimaced slightly at the dampness from both tears and snot she felt. "I forgive you…..sorry for attacking you," she added in a mumble.

He smiled shyly, "that's okay," he murmured, "I forgive you for…..well this," he gestured his arm helplessly.

Lucy couldn't help but grin down at him and his smile widened into the most brilliant, childish, cocky, grin she had ever seen. Her heart skipped a beat, her cheeks flushed, and an idea took hold of all her senses.

She couldn't just take him back to Fairy Tail. The moment the others realised what a true catch he was beneath his cry-baby character, all the girls will be over him like a bad rash. Especially Levy and Cana, and probably Lisanna too, they liked the sensitive types.

So with a deep breath, she made a decision she knew she would never regret.

"I'll take you to Fairy Tail-"

"Really?!" Natsu chirped excitedly. "Wonderful, when do we-"

"Providing," she interrupted as she jabbed a finger at his chest. "You promise to marry me."

He went very silent then, his eyes widened in horrified surprise, and his cheeks burned as brightly as his hair. "What?!" he squeaked finally. "Why?!"

"Well," Lucy shifted uncomfortably and suddenly found the ground far more interesting than Natsu's dark green penetrating stare. "I like you," she mumbled in explanation.

"I like you too," he said shyly, "but we're a bit too young to get married. I only just turned fourteen!"

"It's not legal to marry now, you idiot!" Lucy snapped irritably. "I just want you to promise me that you'll be mine. And once we're sixteen, you go to the nearest church and make an honest woman out of me, think you can do that, are you man enough or what?"

"I'm man enough!" Natsu protested. "I mean…. I think I'm man enough, please don't be angry with me! I just don't know. Marriage is a pretty big step and we just met a couple hours ago."

"Fine!" Lucy huffed. "I get it. You don't want to get married. I hope you like the desert because I ain't gonna tell you where Fairy Tail is. I'm going."

And with that she got up, kicked him in the shin for being a hurtful bastard, and began to march off towards where she think home might be.

"Wait!" Natsu shouted after her. "Wait a minute!" she ignored him and quickened her pace but unfortunately that just made him run after her, trip over a stray stone, and accidentally drag her with him to the ground. "Please," he panted a little, "wait a minute," he took a deep ragged breath and then looked at her directly in the eye, "I will marry you when we're sixteen!" he shouted in her face. "But not because you threatened me or blackmailed me," he snapped with a little anger more characteristic of his driver personality. "I'm going to marry you because I like you. A lot!"

Her cheeks traitorously heated up at that. "Okay," she couldn't help but smile.

"Okay?"

"I said okay, didn't I?!" she snapped. "Now get off me. We have a long way to go if we want to get home before nightfall."

He smiled sheepishly and helped her up, she flushed with irritation and embarrassment as he held her hand the entire time back to his car, and as soon as he slid back behind the wheel, his personality did another 180 turn.

"Buckle up, baby," he purred, "we're going on one hell of a ride."

"Don't call me baby!"

"I'm your fiancé," he smirked, "I can call you whatever I like, darling."

And with that, he hit his foot against the pedal before she could retort, and set off into the sunset towards home….
