Kuri woke and Kaneki was gone. She had some idea where he had gone, what he was going through.
As the warden of Cochlea, and someone who sealed Kagune, she had a special affinity to Ghouls. She gained her ability unnaturally. She wasn't born that way. As a child, her priestess mother had fed her small bits of Ghouls, resulting in bile and poison in her body.
Kuri was poisonous to Ghouls now, and tasted awful to them, but her scent was a huge lure to them. She couldn't help any of it. She was born and trained to destroy Ghouls.
A weapon. She was a weapon.
So one day she had decided to turn on her handlers. She became a weapon to protect Ghouls, not destroy them.
This happened because, on her sixteenth birthday, she had seen her mother making love to a Ghoul. After the initial shock, Kuri discovered the undying and tragic love they had for each other.
That changed things. Love like that…shouldn't be taboo.
It ended tragically for them, but she wanted to protect that feeling she had when she saw them. That love.
And now Kaneki…he could actually protect them. He had the power. But that wasn't why she was here, in the rain-soaked alley. Not really.
No matter what happened, Kaneki had the same eyes. The same smile. He had an insane amount of inner strength.
That was what inspired her to chase him now. Not because she needed to save him, but because she wanted to help him fight.
She approached the confrontation. Kaneki had somehow angered the temperamental Nishio. Now he was fucking up that friend of Kaneki's…Hide.
Kuri started towards them, and was yanked to the floor.
'Dammit!' She cried, but no sound came out. Not again!
At that moment, Kaneki's kagune came out, and the fight began. It didn't last long, and Hide lost.
SNAP! Kuri yanked herself forward. "Kaneki!" She ran over, but he was lost to her. He lunged for Hide.
"Dammit!" Kuri stood between them, and before he could harm her, cried. "Binding Feathers!"
Black feathers surrounded him, forcing his Kagune back inside.
"Downy Feathers!" Kaneki fell, asleep.
Kuri caught him, making a call to Yomo, and then carrying him home.

Kaneki woke with a bloody taste in his mouth. "That bitch! How could she—"
"Watch your language," Yoshimura said severely. "It was I who fed you. You nearly killed your friend. If Kuri had not been there…"
Kaneki calmed down. "How did she…do that?"
"Her power is manufactured, but very strong." Yoshimura replied. "There is little concerning Ghouls that she cannot accomplish."
"So could she turn me back into a human?" Kaneki asked eagerly.
"Th…Theoretically," Yoshimura answered honestly.
Kaneki jumped up.
He was going to be human again!
