White Day was another favourite time of year for Mirajane though not many agreed as the guild was drowning in lots and lots of white presents for various guild members from their fans. Most of them were for Mira which was ignored as the only present she cared for was a brand new strand of white pearls that Laxus shoved in her face earlier that day.
She happily toyed with it and was pleased to see that Laxus was doing the same with the locket she gave him that held a lock of her white hair inside.
"LAXUS-SAMA!" Freed and Bickslow screamed causing Laxus to jump (though he will deny it later). "WE SHOWER YOU IN GIFTS IN THANKS OF YOUR KINDNESS ON VALENTINE'S DAY!"
"….I didn't get you anything for Valentine's Day," Laxus growled.
"Then we shower you in gifts in thanks of you being you," Freed said worshiping-ly, "you have been generous this year with your magnificent presence."
"….Should have strayed banished," Laxus muttered, "You three are driving me…..hang one, one," he pointed to Freed, "two," he pointed to Bickslow, "and….." he trailed off as his finger stabbed into thin air. "Where's Ever?" he demanded protectively. "You have let her go off on some insane mission on her own again, have you? She might be strong but there's a reason we're a team."
"Oh Laxus-sama!" Freed swooned slightly. "You're so kind and caring!"
"The best!" Bickslow bellowed in agreement.
"The best! The best! The best!"
"That doesn't answer my question about Ever!"
"I wouldn't worry about Evergreen," Erza muttered darkly, "she is quite happily breaking the rules of Fairy Hills with Elfman right now."
There was a moment of silence and then –
"Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!"
Mira rolled her eyes at that. Boys were so immature even her Laxus and prim, proper, Freed were immature (it was not surprising that Bickslow was. Bickslow was a child at heart). She then smirked, satisfied to know that her and Lisanna's plan to make up for Elfman's Valentine's blunder worked. It took forever to light up those four thousand, five hundred, and seventy three candles (they could have asked Natsu to do it but let's face it…..he would have ended up setting fire to the garden), and to write, teach, and force Elfman to speak without bursting into a roar of 'MAN!', a loving speech, and to find as many white lilies as possible and prevent them from wilting….it was nice to know it had paid off and now her little brother was getting laid.
Okay…..it wasn't that nice because Mira would prefer to have never had that mental image in her head.
Lisanna shared a grimace with Mira, as if they had been thinking the same thing, but was instantly distracted when Bickslow suddenly presented her with a white teddy bear.
"Thanks," he stuck his tongue out, "the chocolates were awesome."
"Yummy! Yummy! Yummy!"
Lisanna flushed with happiness and modesty at Bickslow and his babies' compliments. "You didn't have to," she mumbled shyly as she accepted the bear, and then she flashed him a sweet smile. "Thank you, Bickslow."
Mira felt the urge to cry. Her baby sister was all grown up, feeling the stirrings of true love, and it wasn't with Natsu!
(Thank God! Not only would that have ruin Mira's favourite ship but she honestly didn't think she could live with having Natsu as a brother in law. Elfman caused enough damage to the house as it was. Natsu would have it burned to the ground in an hour.)
"GRAY-SAMA!"
Everyone almost jumped out of their skin, Gray included as the last of his clothes seemed to literally jump off out of fear, as Juvia burst through the guild doors.
"Oh good! Gray-sama is completely naked already!" Juvia blushed. "This makes things a lot easier!"
"Make what a lot easier?!" Gray squeaked as he tried to cover himself up. "What do you mean by that? Do you mean…."
"No!" Juvia's cheeks turned a tomato red. "Juvia is a good girl! Juvia will wait till Juvia is married to Gray-sama before that! Juvia just mean that Gray-sama could wear the white day present Juvia made for him." Juvia held up a pair of white silk boxers. "Juvia personally stitched every stitch to ensure Gray-sama's jewels are in comfort."
"Juvia!" Gray flushed so hotly that steam could be seen rising off of his skin as he snatched the boxers out of Juvia's hands. "Thanks, I really needed these," he coughed awkwardly. "I got you something to."
(Cana and Mira tried not to burst into giggles while none of the guys who noticed had any problems about laughing out loud as they all noticed on the back of Gray's new boxers were a beautiful blue embroidery reading PROPERTY OF JUVIA LOCKSER and several glittery pink hearts to decorate it.)
"Gray-sama did!" Juvia clasped her hands to her chest. "Oh! Juvia has never been happier apart from on Valentine's Day when Gray-sama brought her that chocolate."
"Erm, yeah," Gray grimaced as he remembered all the cheap chocolate he barely got his hands on to repay Juvia for her kindness. "I was lucky to find it. Sun parasols are difficult to find this time of year."
"Oh Gray-sama!"
Gray presented to Juvia a simple, white, parasol for her to shield herself against the sun with. It was decorated with a pretty, pale, blue flower design and matched virtually everything Juvia wore.
"I know how sensitive your skin is and how much you like the sunshine so I thought…."
"Juvia is deeply honoured by such a thoughtful and kind present!" Juvia wailed as tears of joy sprang from her eyes. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
She then flung her arms round Gray and hugged him tightly.
"Gah!" Gray choked. "Juvia…." He wheezed. "You're choking me!"
Mira beamed and turned her attention to Levy and her three admirers. Jet and Droy, as always, were trying to shower Levy in various white presents such a small teddies, daises, and white ribbons, while bickering with one another. They were instantly outshined when Gajeel gruffly thrusted a fountain pen made of mother of pearl into Levy's hands and brought out the most radiant smile from her.
Meanwhile Romeo was helping Wendy tie the white ribbons into her hair that he had brought her while trying to ignore the lewd comments from Macao and Wakaba, and the glares from Laxus, Charle, and Gajeel.
Bisca was showing off her new gun, which was mostly decorative with its white leather handle and gold gilding, while Alzack sheepishly wore his new cowboy hat that matched Bisca's.
"HAPPY WHITE DAY, EVERYONE!"
Everyone jumped slightly when Natsu slammed the door open and both he and Lucy (and Happy, of course) shouted cheerfully. Natsu was grinning madly while Lucy looked a little flushed, and Happy was slightly nervous as he held out another bouquet of fishes.
Only this time the fishes were all pure white.
"Happy White Day, Charle," he beamed, "these are for you."
"But I didn't get you anything for Valentine's Day," Charle said lankly, her cheeks went rosy pink, and she suddenly turned her nose up at him, "and you know I don't like my fish raw!" she huffed.
Happy's eyes widened. "But…..but…..but…"
"Here!" Charle shoved something in Happy's paw. "Now leave me alone!"
She then flew off to glare at Romeo some more as he was trying the white cake Wendy had made him (Erza eyed said cake jealously as she did to every cake she sees being eaten by someone not her).
"Charle!" Happy breathed ecstatically. "Look, Natsu! Look what Charle gave me!"
"Eh?" Natsu scrunched his nose up in disgust. "It's just a clump of fur, Happy."
"It is not!" Happy said hotly. "It's a beautiful lock of Charle's stunning, soft, pure, white fur. A lock she willingly gave to me, like a lady would to a knight! Charle now sees me in a romantic light!"
"SHUT UP!"
Mira tried to smother her giggles as Happy instantly flew to Charle's side and tied to beg forgiveness for being so loud while Natsu was now staring contemplatively at Lucy's golden locks.
"Don't even think about it!" Lucy snapped as she realised what her partner was doing. "It's not a willing token if you burn a chunk off!"
"But Lucy!" Natsu whined. "I got you something for White Day and Valentine's Day. You got me nothing yet!"
It was then when Mira realised Lucy's hair was styled differently instead of her mini-ponytail, or her bunches, or leaving her hair loose, Lucy had tied her hair into a ponytail and had decorated it with a beautiful silver headdress that covered her forehead, and held a small, beautiful, milky white stone in the middle.
"Lucy!" Mira chided her friend. "Natsu got you something and you didn't return the favour?! How rude of you!"
"Yeah, Luce," Natsu teased, "how rude of you."
"I haven't been able to afford a present!" Lucy protested. "For some reason I barely made rent this month." Judging by the glare Lucy shot Natsu, Natsu was the reason why Lucy struggled to pay her rent. Nothing unusual there…. "But that didn't mean I wasn't going to give you something, in fact," at this point, much to Mira's disappointment, Lucy grabbed Natsu's arm, leaned up on her tip toes, and whispered something into Natsu's ear.
Natsu turned bright pink. "Really?!" he cried out hopefully, and when Lucy smiled, and nodded, he grinned manically. "Awesome! Let's go now!"
"Not now!" Lucy smacked Natsu's arm. "We just got here. We should at least spend time with our friends. You can have your present tonight."
"Aww…..but Lucy-!"
"KNOCK! KNOCK!" Everyone did jump then when a random stranger yelled into their doorway. The poor guy's eyes widened and he barely ducked in time to avoid the fireball, bolt of lightning, the bullets, the swords, the icicles, and Gajeel's arm of iron that every shot his way. "S-S-SPECIAL DELIVERY!" he shouted as he shook slightly from the fright. "For the Ladies of Fairy Tail!"
He then clicked his fingers and Mira groaned as an entire company of delivery men came in and dumped presents for each of the girls.
Suddenly they were snowed under millions of white day presents and the boys all looked constipated at the very sight of it.
Lucy's spontaneously went on fire which made her shriek and jump away.
Levy's presents were all suddenly flung out of the window.
The one that Juvia received from a Lamia Scale guy (Lion, Leo, Lyo…..something like that, Mira couldn't remember, and she didn't care much for the guy that literally got in the middle of Gray and Juvia) suddenly turned to ice and shattered.
And Mira strongly suspected that hers will be electrocuted the moment her back was turned.
The other girls were a bit luckier as they either had no love interest in the room or their love interest, like Romeo, merely settled for glaring at the presents.
"Oh my," Erza swooned slightly, her cheeks a faint pink as she admired a particularly beautiful bouquet of flowers. "It's from my special secret admirer!" she said excitedly. "The one that sent me the cake! Oh, I do feel dishonourable accepting such gifts and not returning the gesture."
"Don't feel so bad," Mira said comfortingly, "It could be Ichiya for all you know!" she then teased.
Erza blanched and Mira felt the tiniest bit guilty for saying that (after all, it was so obviously Jellal that sent the flowers, an Mira so wished for them to be happy) but then her rivalry with the redhead took over and she giggled instead.
Cana was, overall, dismissive of her presents. They were all from perverts who sent her white lacy, underwear and asked photos in return, or were lovesick, pathetic, idiots that obviously knew nothing about the real Cana (they seemed to have built her up as an angel but half of the girls' fans did that. It was quite frustrating as none of them were particularly angelic. Not really). That was, until she came across a poorly wrapped up present with a letter in very familiar messy handwriting.
"It's from Gildarts," Cana mumbled, "I wonder what that old man wants." She tore open the letter and scowled. "Cana-Chan," she read out loud, "Even though you didn't get Daddy anything for Valentine's Day, Daddy still remembers his precious princess on White Day and sent this for you to wear. Daddy hopes to see Cana-Chan in it when he comes home." She instantly scrunched the paper up into a ball. "Stupid old man!" she fumed. "How can I send him anything when I don't know where the fuck he is?! His present better be good…"
The present was not good.
Or at least it was not good for Cana.
It was a very beautiful white dress. A white dress that went to Cana's knees and was decorated in frills, lace, and ribbons. It was something that Wendy would wear, not Cana….
"Oh God!" Tears of mirth ran down Gray's face. "You'd look so precious in that!" he mocked.
Bickslow, Macao, Wakaba, Nab, Reedus, Warren, and Max were already rolling on the floor in hysterical laughter at the sight. Romeo was trying his hardest not to laugh as were all the girls as they knew it wasn't Cana's type of dress, and Laxus' lips stretched in the tiniest of smiles.
"What the hell is this?!" Cana shrieked disgustedly.
"A very pretty dress," Mira offered, "you'd look nice in it."
"Yeah," Cana agreed, "if I was seven. Natsu," she turned to the pink dragon-haired slayer who had been busy burning Lucy's presents to laugh at the horrible dress. "Do me a favour," she shoved the dress into Natsu's face, "set this monstrosity on fire for me?"
Natsu smirked. "Yosh!" a small flame flickered in his hands. "I'm all fired up!"
Mira sank down onto a stool and watched blissfully as Natsu set the dress on fire and almost the rest of the guild if it hadn't been for Juvia and Levy.
Yes, days like this were always the best. If only every day could be White Day….
