The atmosphere was perfect, the room was dark apart from the candles they had lit around the room, there was an eerie silence, and the mystical factor was enhanced by the full moon shining through the window…..and nothing was happening.
"It's not moving!" Cana complained. "This is becoming more and more stupid each second. Let's pack the stupid game away and play a proper one. Like truth or dare."
"NO!"
No one wanted to play truth or dare after the last time, or the time before that, or the time before that. Every time they played it, it always ended the same – a building destroyed, several people unable to look at one another in the eye, and Cana blackmailing them with that she learned.
"It's probably not working," Mira scowled at Cana, "because you asked; where Master's secret wine cellar is?"
"Yeah," Cana shrugged, "So?"
"So," Lucy grinned, "the spirits probably don't want to be drank by you."
Only Levy giggled at that. "That was a terrible pun," she said in between giggles, "You can do better than that Lu-Chan."
Evergreen made a gesture to suggest Levy and Lucy were insane to Laki, not that anyone else noticed, they were all too busy staring at Lucy and Levy wondering if Natsu was right about them being weird….
"Let's just ask it a different question," Erza said eventually, "obviously we're getting nowhere on the wine situation."
Cana pouted.
"All right then," Mira scanned the list, "the next question is; what is the name of Lucy's soulmate?"
"Really?" Lucy moaned. "I thought we were going to ask if I'm ever going to get my book published not who my soul mate is."
"Nope," Mira smiled sweetly, "we're asking who your soul mate is, and then we're going to ask who everyone else's soul mates are."
"But we didn't ask who Cana's soul mate is!"
"Oh Lucy," Mira giggled, "Everyone knows that Cana's soul mate is a good bottle of wine."
"Amen to that!" Cana cheered as she poured out another glass of wine. "Come on then, let's see who Lucy is destined for, Natsu or Loke, or someone surprising. Like that cute writer guy you let me snog so you can spend time with Natsu."
"Somehow," Lisanna sweat-dropped, "I don't think it's the cute writer guy if Lucy chose Natsu over him."
"Oh!" Mira gasped excitedly. "Look! Look! It's moving!"
They all had their fingers on the small, triangular, pointer which glided gently against the wooden board towards a letter.
"N," Mira said out loud.
The beginnings of an evil smirk can be seen on her face as her voice got shriller and happier by the second.
Lucy choked slightly on her spit. Surely not?! She thought to herself. Surely the spirits were not going to tell her, in front of Mira who will never let her live it down, that Natsu is her soul mate….right? Right?!
"O."
Lucy sighed in relief and then frowned. Who the hell did she know whose name began with a No?
"T."
"G."
"R."
"A."
"Y."
"S."
"A."
"M."
"A."
Everyone exchanged bewildered looks with one another as the pointer chose to stop moving at this point.
"Notgraysama," Evergreen said slowly, "What sort of stupid name is that?" Evergreen scoffed. "Sounds like a lot of gobbledygook."
"It's not a name," Levy said as she examined the letters, she had written them down as they read them out one by one, "it's….Not Gray-sama," she finished flatly.
"…."
There was a moment of silence as realisation sank in. ever so slowly, each and every girl in the room, turned to look at the sheepish, fidgeting, Juvia.
"JUVIA!" Everyone shouted. "We've told you the first time," Mira continued, severely irritated that her hopes and dreams had been squashed by Juvia's selfishness, "you can't push the pointer!"
"JUVIA WON'T LET A STUPID BOARD DICTATE WHO GRAY-SAMA BELONGS! TO" Juvia suddenly screamed. "JUVIA WON'T RISK IT SAYING GRAY-SAMA BELONGS TO LOVE RIVAL! GRAY-SAMA IS JUVIA'S! JUVIAS! ALL JUVIAS!"
Everyone sweat-dropped at the hypocrisy there, after all Juvia wouldn't let a board say who Gray belonged to but she had no problem declaring ownership as if he was a toy or something?
It has quickly become apparent that this was going to be the result of every question asked tonight (especially if Mira got her way) which would be a total waste of their time and a downer on their girl's night, therefore it was decided then that that would be the last time they will play with an Ouija board…..at least with Juvia around that is.
(Meanwhile in the Spirit World, Loke sat cross-legged as he massaged his temples and concentrated fully at the ground. Capricorn tilted his head curiously as Loke screwed his face up and looked really constipated.
"….What exactly are you doing?" he asked eventually.
"I'm trying to move that stupid pointer Lucy is playing with," Loke glowered at the floor, "I'm going to make it spell out Loke if it kills me."
"….You do realise we're not that sort of spirit, right?" Capricorn sweat-dropped. "After all, we're not dead.")
