Summary: Based on a scene from The Big Bang Theory. Sometimes Lucy has to fake her laughs.
Pairings: Implied Gajeel/Levy, Gray/Natsu/Lucy/Levy friendship, some implied Happy/Charle, little mention of Gray/Juvia, and Natsu/Lucy.
Author's Note: I was going to thank you all for over fifty three hundred reviews (sorry I hadn't sooner but on Friday I hadn't noticed and then Sunday I was dedicating my chapter to someone) but then today I realised I had to thank you for over FIFTY FOUR HUNDRED reviews! Seriously, you guys are amazing.
"Hey guys!"
"Hey!"
"Levy-Chan!"
"Yo!" Natsu greeted the blue haired bookworm, "Where's Gajeel? I thought he was coming with you."
"I needed a break," Levy grimaced, "I would have taken Lily with me but he thought it was best if there was someone who was actually being honest with Gajeel."
"Why?" Lucy frowned worriedly. "Has something happened?"
"Only that someone," Levy glared at Natsu and Gray who both winced and smiled with false innocence, "had decided to tell Gajeel that he isn't funny."
"Well he isn't!"
"You have heard his knock knock jokes, right?"
"Yes," Levy sighed, sounding exhausted, "repeatedly. Because now you told him that he isn't funny, he's determined to prove otherwise and I have to listen to all of the jokes."
"If you want him to stop," Lucy said sagely, "sometimes the easiest thing to do is just fake a laugh."
Natsu frowned at that. "Fake a laugh," he repeated, "Do you ever do that with me?"
"No!" Lucy denied far too quickly. "Of course not."
"Bet she does," Gray muttered to Levy, who couldn't help but nod in agreement.
She has heard all of Natsu's jokes before and trust her, his immaturity only ever made Romeo laugh….when he was five.
"Well," Natsu said uncomfortably, keenly perceptive for once, "I would be able to tell anyway."
Gray snorted. "I don't think you would," he said loudly, "you're so thick with all that ash in your brain that I bet you haven't noticed that Happy took off with your lunch to give to Charle."
"Please," Natsu said dismissively, ignoring the truthful fact that he hadn't noticed his lunch had gone missing, "I made plenty of people laugh. Lots of them girls. Sometimes just by asking them out," he bragged proudly. Then his eyes widened in horror as he realised how that could have sounded (which, Levy must confess, was a miracle itself. Natsu usually was really, really, thick at this sort of thing). "Only because Gray dared me to!" he added hastily to Lucy. "Not because I wanted to! You're the only one for me!"
"Pfft!" Lucy snorted. "Ha!" she cackled suddenly. "Tee-hee! Oh God! That's so funny!" she giggled. "Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahha!" Natsu sat there frozen, Gray looked rather alarmed, and even Levy feared for her friend's sanity as Lucy began to bang the table and laugh so hard tears rolled down her cheeks. "Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahah- and done," Lucy said suddenly sitting up. She smiled sweetly at Natsu. "Very funny," she complimented him.
Natsu's jaw dropped.
Gray started to snicker.
Levy began to wonder if maybe spending the afternoon with Gajeel trying to perfect the 'walking in the bar' joke was the lesser evil after all.
"YOU DO FAKE LAUGH!" Natsu bellowed as he pointed at Lucy. "What else do you fake?!" he cried out in alarm. "Is….is our whole relationship fake?!"
"No," Lucy rolled her eyes, she got up, walked over to Natsu's side, and pulled him in for a hug, her lips brushed the corner of his, "trust me," she purred flirtatiously, "laughing at some of your more stupid jokes is the only thing I have ever had to fake."
Natsu grinned stupidly while Gray groaned. "Come on!" he whined. "Not while I'm trying to eat my….hey, where did my tuna sandwich go?! Natsu control your cat!"
Natsu ignored Gray, mostly because he was too busy proving why Lucy only ever had to fake her laugh.
Levy grimaced and was really glad she had yet to order lunch. As Natsu began to get a little handsy, and Gray was no good company because he was sulking the loss of his sandwich, Levy decided to try Lucy's advice and fake a laugh for Gajeel.
Because seriously, any poorly constructed joke was better than watching Natsu and Lucy suck face, Gray bemoan the loss of his lunch, and Juvia worshipping said lost lunch under a nearby table….
