Natsu's irritation mixed with amusement for being arrested for illegally winning the Grand Magical Games (because he won, right? He did beat up all the winners so surely that made him the winner and they should give him the thirty million jewels not arrested instead with blustering idiots shouting for his execution...) faded away instantly at the sight of Lucy waiting for him at the gates.

"Lucy," he breathed, a grin spread across his face, "Lucy!" he yelled as he ran towards hr.

"Lucy!" Happy cried out from behind him.

Lucy turned round to face them both and she beamed radiantly at the sight of them. It had been a year, a whole year, since he had seen her and he hadn't realised exactly how much he had missed her until now.

It was like a giant gaping hole was finally filled.

"Yo!" he grinned.

"Hi," Lucy said breathlessly, "I missed you."

"I missed you too," Natsu thought his chest was going to burst. He felt so happy and proud that Lucy missed him. "How have you-"

"It's been so lonely without you," Lucy interrupted him. Natsu blinked, startled that Lucy was….well so blunt. She never usually advertised her feelings like that, and then he frowned in concern when he realised she wasn't even looking at him! Her eyes seemed vacant as she looked just above his shoulder. "My bed feels cold and empty, the apartment was always too quiet without you, and I kept looking up, hoping to see you, to speak to you, to find nothing there. It's been so unfair!"

"Erm…."

"I kept wondering what I could have done to have kept you!" Lucy had tears in her eyes now, Natsu's heart ached for her (though he was increasingly uncomfortable with how she was addressing all of this to his shoulder and not him), but when he reached out comfort her, she stepped away and he almost fell face first on the ground. "Should I have been nicer? More welcoming? Let you have the blankets? Buy you more fish?"

"Fish?!" Natsu yelped. "I don't just eat fish, y'know."

Lucy ignored him and Natsu felt his eye twitched in annoyance. He was about to grab hold of her and shake her for being such a weirdo and have her talk to him normally when a voice behind him suddenly piped up. "I'm sorry," Happy said solemnly, "I really didn't want to leave you but I had to. It was my duty to the world to go and train without any friends other than my sidekick, obviously."

"What does that mean?!" Natsu shouted. "And since when was I your sidekick? I'm the hero out of the two of us! Not you! And what do you mean you trained, you just threw rocks at me in between fishing and sunbathing!"

He was ignored, again.

This was really beginning to get on his nerves now.

"I really am sorry, Lucy," Happy spoke up again, "but no amount of fish would have ever changed that. You could have offered me the biggest, most delicious, fish in the world and I would still say no. you could have filled your whole apartment with fish and I would still have to leave. But it never changed the fact that I missed you."

"Oh Happy!"

"Oh Lucy!"

And that was when they ran (well flew, in Happy's case) into each other's arms and held onto each other for dear life while they sobbed. Lucy nuzzled her nose into Happy's fur while Happy rubbed his cheek against her shoulder.

"WHAT ABOUT ME?!" Natsu exploded, having lost all patience. "Didn't you miss me?! Weren't you lonely without me? Didn't you miss the noise and mess and warmth I made in your apartment as well?!"

Lucy and Happy both looked at him startled. There was a moment of silence, Lucy blinked, and then –

"I'm sorry," Lucy said politely, "but who are you again?"

Natsu turned white as he felt his soul leave him, his body shattered, as the words 'who are you again?' seemed to literally collapse on top of him….

Who are you again?

Who are you again?

Who are you again?

Natsu thought his world had ended and he really couldn't understand why…..how could Lucy forget him?! After everything they've been through…..how could she forget him but remember HAPPY of all people?! Argh! This made no sense!

"Tee-hee!" Happy giggled. "I think we broke him."

"I think so too," Lucy smirked.

"That was fun," Happy grinned evilly, "you've gotten way more fun since last year Lucy."

"Why, thank you," Lucy said, "and you have gotten better with your acting."

They high-fived one another and laughed the whole way back to Lucy's new apartment while Natsu followed, completely befuddled on what just happened…..

Silently, he swore revenge on the pair of them.

He was Happy's pranking partner and they pranked Lucy, not the other way round!
