TW: Anna and Hans have sex, and it's not 100% consensual, but it's also not 100% non-consensual either. We know what Anna's feelings are while it's happening, but it's not graphic or violent or anything, IMO. Honestly, it's really not that explicit sexually, but I think it might be triggering for someone that had a similar experience. I've conservatively italicized and bracketed the section in case anyone wants to skip it. And I've pretty much summarized the section here so you won't miss much other than the emotional connection with Anna. Also, lots of shame, and especially guilt, in this one.

Anna woke up early the next day. The sun shone on her face, and she reached up to touch the golden ray which turned out to be a rainbow, and it felt like she was a part of it. Ahtohallan must still be smiling at her, she thought.

She giggled as she hopped into the bathroom and turned on the water. The sun also made glittering rainbows in the water clinging to the walls, like little jewels decorating the shower. Anna squinted at the sun's radiance while she washed the shampoo out of her hair. Then she closed her eyes to remember the night before, and why she felt like a whole new person.

Kristoff, bent down, holding her hand and looking at her with the new moon in his eyes. "Ahtohallan smiles at us," he says in Northuldran.

Anna mouthed the words, trying to mold her lips like Kristoff's, to get the sound just right. Finally, she resolved herself to ask Kristoff to say it again, and to double check her translation. She wasn't 100% if it meant "smiled," but she knew it was something in that zone.

She felt warm and antsy at the thought of seeing him, so she hurried to get dressed to head over to the refugee camp early. She braided her wet hair as she walked over, but stopped halfway down the block so she could at least text her dad to let him know where she went. But she didn't have her phone.

She was overtaken by a feeling of intense dread remembering what happened the night before, and she blacked out for a few seconds, then jogged in place to shake some of the shame that seemed unbearable. She briefly considered going to the camp anyway and letting Kristoff make her feel better, but then she felt ashamed for thinking that. She cheated on Hans with him and she didn't deserve to have his arms wrapped around her until she felt better. She deserved this feeling. The only thing for it was to suffer through her punishment. And that meant looking at Hans' text again and not seeing Kristoff.

Anna ran towards her house in an effort to make the shame subside long enough to get home. She only expected to see the text she had already seen the night before, but she was bombarded with a seemingly infinite number of ding, dings, all from Hans.

She fell to her bed and curled up her legs, put the pillow over her head, and rocked side to side, not even bothering to take off her shoes. Tears that could have been rainbow-less water dripping from her still wet braids covered her face and sheets. She tried to be brave and strong, like Kristoff said she was, and after a few minutes she finally calmed down enough to squint at her texts.

H: I love you. H: Anna? H: I love you, Anna. H: Hello? H: I miss you so much… H: Did your phone die? H: Happy New Year! H: Are you still in bed, sleepyhead? H: Are you looking dreamy again? H: Did I do something wrong? H: I'm so sorry, whatever it is H: Just let me make it up to you H: I love you so much H: Please don't leave me! H: I'm sorry, Baby. Whatever I did. I'm so sorry

Anna crawled under the covers, her phone clutched to her chest. Why didn't she just text him back yesterday to tell him she loved him? She would have felt so much less ashamed.

Ding, ding

H: Anna, please just say something

Ding, ding

H: Anything

Anna had locked herself in a black box, just her and the phone, trying to figure out how to handle this.

Then something hurled itself at her.

"Anna! The sky's awake! Come on! Wake up!" He moved her pillow and then put it back.

"Alex!"

"Are you feeling ok?"

"I just have… you know, women's issues. I think I'm just gonna stay home today."

"Anna? You coming?" her father asked.

"Anna's not feeling well."

"Oh, you're not feeling well, princess?" He frowned and touched his hand to her forehead.

"No, Papa. I'm just gonna stay home today. Is that ok?"

"Of course." He frowned, "Do you want me to stay home with you?"

Anna had never worked harder to hold in her tears.

"No, I'll be ok."

Her father would have stayed home with her and taken care of her if she asked him, but the refugees needed him more. He'd already given her such a good life, and it wasn't fair to keep him all to herself when other people have suffered so much more than her. Plus she wasn't even really sick.

He looked at her sympathetically and lovingly touched her cheek. "Ok, but call me if you do need anything."

"Yes, Papa."

The second the door shut, she let loose all the tears that had been trapped. By the time she dried her eyes, the sky had darkened and the rainbows on the wall had disappeared. She barely moved her trashcan in time to wretch, but no amount of vomiting made the guilty feeling leave her stomach.

"What are you so smiley about?" Oaken poured a couple cups of coffee and handed one to Kristoff. "Something go your way last night?" He raised his eyebrows in hope.

"What? Pffft. No."

"No? Ok, then."

Oaken didn't believe him, but Kristoff's spirits were so high he wasn't able to properly deny it. New Year's Eve had been magical. He and Anna talked for around three hours and he learned so much about the part of her that wasn't hidden, and she also revealed little snippets of her hidden self that only he noticed. Then she let him kiss her hand, and the star-struck look in her eyes as his lips touched her skin made him feel like they were the only two people on the planet.

Kristoff headed over to meet the delivery truck and get started unloading pallets at the refugee camp. Every time he dropped a pallet he looked around to see if Anna was there. She still hadn't shown up after the delivery truck left, which was extremely unlike her. It wasn't unusual for her to arrive a little later than Agnarr and Alex, but the sun was almost at the top of the sky.

As the day went by, clouds gathered to obscure the sun, and Kristoff felt a chill. He had a bad feeling and Ahtohallan finally whispered in his ear that something was wrong.

"Hey, Rapunzel, is Anna ok?" He was a little out of breath from jogging over there.

"Oh, she's got lady problems!" Alex said and giggled.

"Alex! Uggghhh! What is wrong with you!?" said Rapunzel.

Eugene made a face, and Alex laughed some more.

"What? She's a lady and she's got problems. Lady problems. What did you guys think?"

"So she's sick?" Kristoff asked.

"Yeah, she just wasn't feeling well. That's all. I'm sure she'll be fine tomorrow."

It wasn't much comfort to Kristoff. He hated that she was home alone, but he was also sure that Agnarr offered to stay home with her and she told him that the refugees need him more.

Kristoff went back to his station, hoping that whatever was ailing Anna wasn't too horrible. If it was "lady problems," as Alex suggested, then she'd probably be back at the camp the next day.

But she wasn't at the camp the next day either, or the day after that. Something was off and Kirstoff was worried. He thought that he wouldn't get to talk to her at all before school started, and he probably wouldn't be able to talk to her in school at all since they probably wouldn't have any classes together. He'd have to wait a whole week to talk to her again, assuming she even came to volunteer next weekend. That would be a whole week of worrying about her, and he couldn't shake the feeling.

Instead of texting Hans back, Anna spent the day sitting in her closet, steeped in shame. She stared at her boxes - there were so many - and she wondered how many of them were really as bad as she thought. How many of them could Kristoff make disappear with his wink, or his smile, or his easy way of being that seemed so impossible based on how hard his life had been. But it was the boxes he couldn't wink away that scared her the most. And the more she got to know him, the closer they were to falling off the shelves and opening before she was ready.

Even so, the Kristoff box just outside of the closet was glowing, and the warmth gave her courage. She worried that if she looked inside she'd be filled with guilt, so she did her best to avoid it, though she could clearly see it from the corner of her eye at all times.

Instead, she faced the more immediate problem and opened the Hans box. And she looked at all the things in it:

Prejudice against Northuldrans and refugees

Kissing her in the cafeteria when she didn't want him to

Punching Kristoff at the dance

Ignoring her

Always saying she was cheating on him

Sometimes disrespectful to her dad

Sometimes mean to Alex

Always trying to touch her when she didn't want him to

Always telling her she's beautiful and not noticing how uncomfortable it made her

Going to the Southern Islands

Making her feel guilty (the rose, the dress)

Only volunteering the bare minimum when he felt like he had to to make Anna happy, not really doing anything useful when he was there, and giving her a hard time for spending so much time at the refugee camp

Being overly attached to his mother, who hated Anna and kept trying to force her Southern Islands remedies on her

None of them were really that bad, and a lot of them were really more her problem than his. The worst ones were punching Kristoff and kissing her in the cafeteria, both of which were really her fault because she behaved in a way to suggest she might be unfaithful. She completely understood why he'd be jealous. And that's why he punched Kristoff. And of course he was going to kiss her goodbye, she was his girlfriend. He could have led her outside where it was more private, though, since he must have known it would embarrass her to kiss her in front of everyone in the cafeteria. And he did it to make Kristoff know she was taken instead of because he cared about her.

Anna felt even worse after going through the Hans box. All of his bad behaviour was because she made him jealous. And he had a very good reason for being jealous. Her insides were twisted for what she did to him, and she tried to straighten them out, but they only got more knotted. Then the Kristoff box beckoned and her insides were so knotted that she didn't have the strength to fight against her desire, so she opened it:

Always staring at her - she blushed at the memory of the new moon in his eyes as he kissed her hand

Always winking at her - she blushed more and felt a pleasant burn remembering when he twirled her at the dance

Always making things blurrier and clearer at the same time

Making her boxes open mysteriously when she didn't want them to

Knowing more of her better than anyone ever has

Knowing too much about her

Always being nice to her

Always taking away her shame and guilt

Volunteering at the refugee center all the time, and working really hard at it

Not trying to talk to her in Northuldran when she asked

Having the cutest accent

Having a bright smile the sun always shines on

Having electric lips

Making her feel things, good things

Having arms that made her feel safe and good, like everything's gonna be ok - she imagined them wrapped around her lower back right now…

Anna fell over to her side, her hands outstretched in front of her. It was still overcast but a single ray of sun shone on the hand Kristoff kissed. It was the same hand Hans kissed when he said goodbye to her, and her skin crawled for weeks, until Kristoff replaced it with respect and care. But she cheated on Hans with that kiss, and she didn't deserve Kristoff's respect and care.

Anna started crying again and wiped away her tears with her hand, and somehow it found her lips, and that's when her tears dried into kisses and her feelings shifted. She didn't deserve Kristoff, but her feelings were so intense that she couldn't stop herself. She rolled over onto her back and her other hand inched its way down her belly and under her sweatpants. She was so close to that feeling that brought her so much peace the night before. She wanted it so badly that it almost hurt. Just as Kristoff winked at her and her eyes crossed, just as he was seconds away from taking her shame away, the doorbell rang.

Anna fell flat to the floor, exasperated and annoyed. She was reminded how she deserved to feel the shame. She didn't deserve ecstasy or peace or love. She was unworthy of the good feelings from New Year's Eve. She was unworthy of Kristoff's kiss, much less his touch, his kind words, his enchanting smile. And the doorbell reminded her of that.

Then the doorbell rang again while she caught her breath, in case she didn't get the message the first time. She checked the peephole, hoping it wasn't a solicitor because she would probably end up buying whatever they were selling so she wouldn't feel guilty about not buying whatever they were selling.

Hans? Anna still hadn't answered any of his texts. The pangs of guilt doubled her over and she thought she'd be sick again.

"Anna? I know you're in there. I went by the refugee camp and Alex told me."

Alex told him?

"Look, I don't know what I did or why you're mad at me, but the least you could do is tell me so I can apologize."

The problem was that Anna couldn't remember. She had just opened her box with all the things she didn't like about Hans, but she couldn't remember what was in it. All she knew was the guilt from cheating on him with Kristoff, whom she couldn't get out of her head, and for allowing him to nearly absolve her of that guilt, and the slight anger that that wretched feeling might have gone away if it weren't for Hans, but then she felt guilty for that, too. Her guilt was so extreme that she nearly lost consciousness.

She opened the door because she couldn't hide anymore for fear of making her guilt even worse. If she couldn't hide from Kristoff, then surely her own boyfriend deserved the same consideration. So she opened the door and his eyes shimmered with confusion and sorrow.

"I'm so sorry, Baby. Whatever I did."

Anna held his hand and led him in. Her eyes never left his as she took the bouquet of roses and set it on the counter. He kicked the door shut and she took his other hand. Then she flung her arms around his neck and kissed him like that day in the cafeteria, only she kissed back this time. Seeing him so contrite and humble reminded her of the person she fell in love with, the shy, nerdy guy that slipped anonymous notes in her locker everyday for a whole month before he worked up the nerve to talk to her, before his brothers left the house and he became the center of his mom's world, before he grew into his looks and became one of the most popular guys in school. Maybe he could make her guilt go away the same way Kristoff had. He reached for her thighs and pulled her closer, fervently grabbing as much surface area as he could. She was overtaken with the need for Hans, all of him, and she forgot about making the guilt go away. Eventually he laid her down on her bed and climbed on top of her.

Anna panicked for a moment, then remembered that it was her boyfriend on top of her and this was ok. Hans cared about her and he wasn't going to hurt her. Still, it didn't feel right.

"Hans, maybe we should slow down." She pushed on his shoulder and he pressed him above her.

"But don't you love me?" He immediately went to kissing her neck and she purred. "Don't you like this?"

"Yeeesss… but…" she was so torn between loving everything he was doing to her neck but nothing about what he was doing to her breasts. It was too much, and his hands were moving too fast. Finally, she was able to get the rest of her sentence out. "...we've never done this before, and I don't know. It's just going so… ahhh…fast." This was making her guilt worse, not better.

"Anna," he stopped what he was doing to look at her. "You're driving me crazy, you know that? I want you so bad. You're pretty much all I thought about when I was away. Ok? Come on, Baby. Let me show you how much I missed you."

"But, Hans, don't you…" His hand found where hers was only moments ago and it soothed her, and then she forgot again, at first.

"You can touch me, too, you know. It won't bite," he said with a wink. He chuckled and moved her hand to touch him where he wanted. It was the same hand Kristoff kissed, and she didn't really want it to touch Hans.

"I don't know, Hans. It's just a little too much."

"Anna, you've got me so hot that if you don't follow through I'm gonna be in so much pain."

Anna didn't want him to be in pain. He didn't deserve that.

"Come on, Baby, you love me, and I love you, right? This is what people who love each other do, isn't it?"

Anna couldn't think of a counterargument so she nodded.

"Unless there's someone else you'd rather be doing this with…" Then his touches got rougher and faster, and she was sure he could see through her.

"No, Hans. I swear."

"Mmmm, I think I need you to prove it to me." If she didn't go through with this Hans would know she cheated on him.

"But we don't have a condom and I'm not on the pill."

Taking that as an invitation, Hans produced his wallet and pulled out a piece of plastic before setting his wallet on the nightstand and stood up and took off his clothes. He moaned as he returned Anna's hand to his naked parts while she cringed at the feel. And then he nearly ripped her pants off.

Anna's desire returned as Hans' touched her the right way, slowly and in all the right places, and she pulled him down to her, kissed him deeply, and opened her legs. After a few minutes of his attentive strokes, and the frustration of being so close to absolution before, but not close enough, she wanted him so bad, and she wanted this so bad.

"Now, that's more like it!" Hans grinned as he massaged her some more while she closed her eyes to see Kristoff smiling at her. She completely forgot about Hans until he took a moment to run his thumb over her cheek, coaxing her eyes to open. "Your wild eyes are even more beautiful than I thought they'd be."

Anna's desire waned, but not enough, and she let him enter her anyway.

"Oh my god, Baby, you feel so good!"

He talked to her the whole time, trying to make her feel comfortable, and it made it impossible for her to think of Kristoff. He kept telling her how beautiful she was, thinking it was what she wanted to hear, but each time he told her, she wanted him there a little less. Her insides began to scream and burn, and she began to cry, though Hans was so lost in his movements that he didn't even notice. He writhed on top of her, faster and faster, oblivious to anything other than his own needs. She didn't say anything because deep down she knew she deserved this, especially since she thought about Kristoff when she closed her eyes, and she felt like she owed him, but eventually it got to be too much.

"Hans, stop, please! Please!"

"Oh, Baby, what's wrong? Are you ok? Did I hurt you?"

"No, no, it's ok. But I just don't think I'm ready for this. I'm so sorry! Can we stop?"

He pumped slowly just a few more times, with his eyes closed, his face wrought with pleasure, and sighed. Then he pulled out, like she asked, but too quickly and she cried out while he made a silent "oh" with his mouth. "Are you ok?" he asked once he calmed down. "I've heard the first time can be painful." He held her close to him while she cried some more.

"I'm so sorry, Hans. You must be in so much pain!" Now she felt more guilty than she had before.

He pulled away from her and quickly ran to the bathroom while Anna curled up into a ball and cried. It felt wet between her legs so she reached down with a tissue. There was so much blood, and it took a couple of tissues to clean it up. She cried some more at the sight, but cleaned up as quickly as she could so Hans wouldn't notice. She hoped none of it got on him because he would be completely disgusted.

"Well, no harm no foul, right?" he said when he returned after several minutes.

"Hans, I'm so sorry." She thought he'd rush out and never speak to her again. But he was so sweet and understanding. She didn't think it was possible, but her guilt felt even stronger because of how nice he was being to her. She started to feel nauseous again.

"No, I'm sorry. I got too excited and I pushed myself on you. I shouldn't have done that." He touched her cheek again and it irritated, as though each patch of skin didn't get enough time to recover from the previous touch before Hans' thumb ran over it again.

Then he laid down and spooned her. "But, just to make sure, this isn't because you like someone else? It doesn't have anything to do with that?"

"What? No! Why would you even say that?" Her cheeks burned more than her insides and she hoped he didn't notice from behind. It wasn't the reason she wanted it at first, and it wasn't the reason she asked him to stop, but Anna couldn't bring herself to tell him that she cheated on him.

"I see the way Christopher looks at you." Hans tenderly moved a strand of her hair behind her ear. Then his tone switched.

"He so obviously wants to get in your pants," he said as he grabbed her crotch. Anna was still sore but bit her scream so Hans wouldn't know how much pain she was in. A single, rainbow-less tear fell from her eye.

"And sometimes I think you like him, too. So I just wanted to ask. But you said you don't, and that's all I needed to hear. But I do need to get home, though. I came straight here as soon as I got off the train, and you know my mom's going to be upset. Don't worry, I won't tell her you're the reason."

"Hans, I'm so sorry I didn't text back. My phone died and then I couldn't find it. Turns out Alex actually hid it from me as a prank. I was actually just about to text you back when the doorbell rang." How was it so easy to lie to him? Well, it was partially true, at least.

"Oh!" he chuckled. "That's pretty funny, actually."

Just then Agnarr and Alex came home. "Oh, I guess you're feeling better, Anna?" he asked skeptically.

Hans chuckled, but Agnarr didn't notice. "Yes, I'm better. I think I'll go back to volunteering tomorrow." Anna only said that to make everyone else feel better. There was no way she'd be able to face Kristoff after that. Kristoff. What would he think of her? She felt so ashamed.

"Good, good. Hans?" Agnarr held out his hand for Hans to shake. "Welcome back. Say 'hi' to Gothel for me."

"Thanks. Yeah, I'll let my mom know you said 'hi'."

"So I'll see you at school on Monday?" he asked as Anna walked him out.

"Mhmm." The porch light fell on his cheek and cast a dull shadow, swallowing his creamy skin. What she could still see was a sickly yellow color that Anna found repulsive.

"Save me a seat at lunch, K? I love you, Baby." He kissed Anna's cheek and she did her best to fake her reaction.

Then she ran back to her room and shoved the Kristoff box into the closet. She couldn't bring herself to find the lid or put it on a shelf, but she slammed the door. It didn't matter now. She was ruined for him.

The class sat in a long line in the gym. Hans was right behind Anna, playing with her braids, his body as close to hers as it could be. And Kristoff and Eugene were about 10 students back.

"I guess they didn't break up after all. I really thought they would. I mean, I was too busy to see her face at New Year's, but you know, what Sven said and all. Plus you guys talked the whole time. It was kind of annoying…"

"And you and Rapunzel kissing the whole time wasn't?"

"Hey, don't hate. What Rapunzel and I have is straight out of a fairy tale. It cannot be helped and it cannot be stopped."

"Great. Good for you!" Kristoff said sarcastically.

"I'm sorry," Eugene said sincerely, "I'm sure she'll come around, eventually." They both looked towards Anna and Hans was whispering something in her ear, and she giggled.

"Ooof! That's rough. I'm sorry, man, but I really just don't think she's into you."

Kristoff cursed at him in Northuldran as they filed out of the gym so they could run their laps. He replayed the events of the last few days, New Year's Eve to gym class. Anna lived for the refugee camp. She spent every spare second there. He couldn't imagine what would be so bad that she wouldn't come to the camp for three days. Lady's problems don't last three whole days. What was going on with her? Kristoff's nerves only got worse after seeing her and Hans together.

It wasn't that much of a surprise to Kristoff that Anna and Hans were still together. Hans showed up at the refugee camp on New Year's Day with a bunch of roses, looking for Anna. Kristoff was prepared for Anna not to break up with Hans. He knew she would break up with him eventually, so that wasn't what bothered him.

Hans sped up to show off, so Kristoff ran up to run next to Anna.

"Hi," he said in Arendellian.

"Hi," she said in Coronan.

"Are you feeling better?" He switched to Coronan.

Anna didn't answer.

"Anna, are you ok? Still not feeling well?"

"Yes, fine." Her response was curt.

"Did I do something to offend you?"

"What? No!" She turned to look at him as she said it and slowed down a little. "Why would you think that?" Then she cringed. "No, I mean, no, I'm not mad at you," she said in Arendellian.

"Oh, ok."

"I'm sorry, that was so rude. I'm fine, Kristoff. I wasn't feeling well, but I'm better now. And I'm not mad at you. How are you?"

At that point, Hans had already finished his lap and ran right between them. Anna tensed up as soon as he approached.

"Anna, do you really think that's as fast as Christopher can run?"

She was flustered by his question. "I don't know, Hans. How would I know that?"

"I bet you can't run that fast, Christopher. I bet I can outrun you."

Kristoff rolled his eyes. Why would he even bother playing that game when he could talk to Anna. Besides, she was so uninterested in who was a better athlete.

Hans took off without receiving an answer from Kristoff, who continued to jog by Anna's side. Then Anna ran faster, trying to get away from Kristoff. Hans was feeling insecure and Anna didn't want to make it worse. So Kristoff sprinted ahead of her so she wouldn't have to wear herself out, and he caught up with Eugene instead.

"Struck out? Tough break. Not surprised, I guess. You saw how she was talking to Hans before."

"You know, sometimes you're such an asshole."

Eugene laughed so hard he had to stop running. Kristoff stopped, too, to make sure he was ok. He was, but he couldn't laugh and run at the same time.

"Oh, Eugene! Are you ok?" Anna stopped to make sure, too.

"Oh, um, yeah, just busted a stitch, but all good." He stood up quickly, "Unless Rapunzel asks, and then I really hurt myself bad in gym class and I'm gonna need some extra attention."

Anna stood up straight with her hands on her hips.

"Eugene Fitzherbert! You know very well how much attention my cousin already gives you. Do you really think she has any extra attention to give you for fake injuries? Hm?"

"Well, no. I mean. Not when you put it like that. No," he said sheepishly.

Kristoff chuckled. He loved seeing the girl that stood up for him at the school dance.

"How dare you try to manipulate her with guilt like that! She likes you already and you don't have to try to trick her into liking you more!"

This took a turn very quickly, and Anna again revealed something else about herself she didn't mean to. She knew Hans was trying to manipulate her, at least in part, and she went along with it anyway. Why? Why would she want to be with someone like that?

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Come on, Red. I'm not doing anything like that. It was a joke, ok? Just a joke. I didn't mean it. Ok? I'm sorry."

Anna sighed. "You really didn't mean it?"

"Promise. But um, hey, Red, could you not tell Rapunzel about this?"

"Eugene! Gaaaahhhh!" Then Anna took off running a lot faster than she had before.

"Jeez! What's her problem?" Eugene asked Kristoff.

Then Kristoff heard a gunshot and some birds rustling in the trees as they quickly flew away so he curled into a ball. Then a melodic voice whispered in his ear, but it also reverberated in his body. "We're ok. We're safe. We're in Corona."

She said it over and over again. He felt pressure on his arms, soft but strong enough to make him feel safe, and then it was gone, and he felt so cold and alone.

"Krriyistaf," the voice lilted. Anna. "You're safe," she said. He felt one hand on his shoulder and another stroking his cheek. He was scared to open his eyes, in case she was a dream.

"We're in gym class and it was just the sprinklers," she said softly in Arendellian as he reacquainted himself with his surroundings.

"What is sprinklers?"

"The machine that waters the grass."

"Oh." He looked around and everyone had stopped running to stare at him. Most of them were pointing and laughing.

"Don't worry about them," she said, holding his hand to help him sit up. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah. Yeah, fine."

"Good." She had the star-struck look from New Year's Eve, and she let him see her like that for a brief moment, still holding his hand. It was so intensely flattering that Kristoff blushed.

He stood up quickly and pulled Anna up with him. Ahtohallan's light shone on her so brightly that a rainbow set against the mist watering the grass appeared just at her shoulder.

He was still holding her hand when Hans lunged at him. But Anna intervened by placing her hand flush against his chest to hold him back.

"Hans, no!"

He softened and backed away. "I'm sorry, is my insecurity getting the best of me again?" he said sarcastically. "There's no way you're that fucking stupid that you don't see what's going on."

"I'm sorry. I was just trying to help him. That's all."

"Right, you're Florence fucking Nightingale! I forgot! Silly me." He turned and walked away, waving his hand above his head as he left.

"Hans, wait!" she yelled after him half-heartedly.

"No, Anna," he turned back. "There's only one thing that will save this relationship. You know what I'm talking about. Let me know when you make your decision. But decide quickly because I'm not waiting around."

Kristoff was in shock that Hans would speak to Anna that way. She turned her head towards Kristoff and looked up for a brief moment, her cheeks red, her eyes brimming with guilt and tears, but the rainbow was still there. He realized that it didn't matter how much love Ahtohallan showed her, she wouldn't accept it. She sacrificed the light Ahtohallan gave her so she could make rainbows for everyone else, and there wasn't anything left for herself.

"Anna, are you o-"

"Just leave me alone, Kristoff."

Kristoff's heart ached for her, and he wanted nothing more than to share some of Ahtohallan's love with her. If anyone deserved love, it was her.
