Chapter 9

September 1rst, 1974

Aurelia laughed as she sat in the compartment with Kathrine, Heather, Lily, and Severus. They were all laughing and having fun, joking with one another, and talking about their summer. However, something was off, something wasn't right, Aurelia could feel it. Looking to Heather, Aurelia felt a sudden rush of worry for the young girl, "Heather? Are you sure you're alright?" she asked the Ravenclaw blonde. She watched something shining coldly behind Heather's brown eyes as she stared back at Aurelia, and with a smile and a few words of positivity and thanks, Aurelia left it there for a later date. However, she knew Kathrine had caught on to something being off about their friend. Even Lily and Severus had caught something about Heather's behavior. And they all made it quite known when Heather excused herself from the compartment.

"Kathrine? What's wrong with Heather?" Lily asked with concern.

Kathrine's bright green eyes hadn't left the closed compartment door Heather had vacated from, she'd definitely changed over summer. Colder and more than distant. And Kathrine had fears. Fears that she would keep to herself for now. "I… I don't know. Anyways, Hogwarts is hosting a party dinner for family and students this year. It's a 'gown worthy' dinner party apparently." Kathrine told them in a mocking tone her snobbish cousin had used when the family had received the invitation, while she was excited, she was nervous about her family being there all together with others at the school. Her family had a way of humiliating her. Then again, so did Sirius and Regulas's family.

Remembering hearing Albus and the Flamel's talk of such a party over winter vacation, Aurelia nodded, "I believe I overheard Albus talking to the Flamel's about that. Though it was just an idea at the time. I had no idea he was going to go through with it. But I think it's a great idea." Aurelia admitted.

Smiling at the girl's complete innocents to the harmless idea from their headmaster, Kathrine nodded, "Yeah, it is a good idea." She said with a soft smile at the oblivious girl as she went back to looking out the window of the moving train. They sat in the compartment for hours, waiting and wondering when Heather would be coming back. Sadly, the Ravenclaw had not returned.

"I'm going to go see if I can find her," Kathrine said walking from the compartment without giving anyone a chance to offer to go with her.

Aurelia and Lily shared a similar and concerned expression as Kathrine left, both girls shrugging in confusion and not truly knowing what to exactly say about it.

"I didn't want to say it in front of her, but I overheard that the McMartin's had a few unexpecting visitors over Summer. And that these visitors have not left their family's guest house. I honestly don't know if Kathrine knows anything about it." Severus told the two suddenly.

His words drew both redheads' attention about what Severus was telling them, and they couldn't help but wonder what kind of people these visitors had been.

Thinking as hard as she could about what Kathrine had told her over the summer about her family and that of Heather's family, Aurelia took in a deep breath and released it in a long and slow exhale. "Well, it couldn't have been family. Heather's the only child, however, she doesn't talk about her family now that I think of it." Aurelia said curiously. She didn't want to think negatively of Heather, she really didn't, and she hoped she didn't allow Severus's words to dig at her over the year. But over the few weeks they had spent at Hogwarts, classes going as usual, nothing dark nor dangerous out of normal occurring, there were only two annoyances that continued to bother the Ravenclaws. And that came in the form of first-year Gilderoy Lockhart and Heather's continued behavioral change.

November 16th, 1974

The girls were being tormented, flirted with, and spell casted the more the boy learned. There was no haven, especially not for Kathrine, Lily, Margaret, and Aurelia, plus many other girls the poor boy thought he could get away with tormenting. Though, the Professors had clarified that if he continued on with his path he'd be expelled. Heather, however, was entirely safe, only because she had hexed the boy rather cruelly, it had been then that they all knew something had happened over the summer Heather had been with her 'family guests'. And that the girl was hardly speaking to any of them. She'd even taken further seats away from Kathrine. She had become quiet, and would occasionally go missing in the night during school.

However, they could worry over that later, Lily and Aurelia were currently fleeing from Lockhart. The boy could be okay at times, especially if he knew he should ask for help on assignments. Aurelia never minded helping the boy, because he always behaved during the time he'd ask for assistance. But today, it was hell for the two girls he'd decided to target.

They managed to find their way out of the Castle, winded from their run through the school and out towards the Courtyard, praying for an escape.

"Over here- Lily," Aurelia whispered for the redhead, grabbing the girl's hand and pulling her over towards the Quidditch fields, really she wasn't sure if there was anyone practicing today, and frankly she didn't care. They needed a place to hide. Running up the side steps of the stands with Lily behind her, the two girls tried their best not to look over their shoulder as the first year chased them with an enchanted love letter. Really, they didn't think the boy would actually harm anyone on purpose, he was just excited to be a wizard, but in his excitement, Lockhart had become a bit arrogant and rather annoying about it and rather girl crazy. But, the boys' constant rushing about kept them all in shape, though it was very annoying, especially when he decided to up his attempts to embarrass the girls. The older girls wished he'd have stuck to bothering his own age group rather than the third and fourth-year girls. Coming out of the stairway of the stands a gust of wind blew past them, meaning the field was definitely in practice. Looking over to see which house was at practice, the two girls noticed both Slytherin and Gryffindor.

Confused, Lily stopped and watched the two teams going back and forth, Lily's mouth dropped a bit and her brow frowned, "There isn't a game today,"

Stopping in her run at hearing Lily talking about a game not being scheduled for today, Aurelia ran back to her with wide eyes of anxiety of that little booger Lockhart catching at least one of them, grabbed Lily once again, and pulled her back into a run, "Later Lily. We have our dignity to save!"

"Fourth years running from the first year, Aurelia, what dignity do we even have left!" Lily joked back at her as they ran, her hand tightly held in Aurelia's not wanting to let go even for a moment. If she was caught, she hated to admit it, but she was taking Aurelia with her. Running back down a set of stairs and rounding a corner to flee the stands and hoping their detour confused Lockhart, the two girls gasped and covered their mouths when they ran into a boy and a girl making out against the walls of the stand behind the Quidditch field. Two Huffelpuffs from the looks of it and it looked pretty intense from how the two had been found in.

The teens almost panicked for a moment when the two girls scared the life right out of them before the boy sighed and groaned with aggravation, "What the hell are you two doing here? You two shouldn't even be over here anyway." the boy snapped.

"Running from a girl crazy booger. Know of any good places to hide?" Lily asked.

"Lockhart," Aurelia told the boy with her own annoyance, "And forgive me for saying but neither should you be here snogging like you're between the bedsheets-"

"Relia? Is that you darling?" Sirius's voice joked from behind the girls. His charming grin was spread across his face and covered in sweat from the friendly round of 'tag' and practicing the two Houses were currently taking a temporary break from.

Turning at hearing his voice, Aurelia smiled and sighed with relief, "Sirius, oh thank Merlin, you have to help us!" she said with pleading frantically.

Hearing the desperation in her tone, Sirius's grin faltered. Pushing himself from the wall he was leaning against, he walked to her and grabbed her arms with worry, and began to look her over before grabbing Lily and checking her as well, "What's wrong? What's happened? Are you both alright? Are you hurt? Talk to me love." Sirius asked the several questions all in one sitting as he looked her and Lily over with worry. But there were no injuries visible on them.

Shaking their heads at him, Aurelia took hold of his hand that held her face and dropped their now tangled hands, "Lockhart,"

Sighing with relief and now a little irritated she had scared the crap out of him, Sirius rolled his eyes at her, "Relia, you cannot scare me like that, I thought you two were being chased by a damned beast from the way you both are behaving." He gently scolded her.

"Oh good, the boyfriend has arrived. How the devil did you ever tam that beast girl?" the Hufflepuff boy snipped a little with a smirking grin.

"Bit it, Moody," Sirius growled, taking hold of Aurelia's hand he sighed as he looked between her and Lily, "Fine, come on love- shit, go, go now, that way. You two as well. The last thing you both need is the little booger tattling on you both for snogging at a place you shouldn't be. And frankly, there are better places to do that sort of thing." Sirius said under his breath, pulling Aurelia along with him as he made his way around the back part of the arena. He was surprised when Moody and his girlfriend followed after him. They'd just cleared the corner when the first year Ravenclaw had come around.

Pulling Aurelia and Lily into a side stairway of the entrance to the stands, he nodded his head to Alastor who had done the same with his girlfriend. They were all hoping and praying the first year didn't walk down the way and find them. Their hopes were crushed when the little booger came down the entrance, humming his annoying little excited hum. The love letter was gag-able from how much of the scent he had used in the spell. If anything it would make anyone run the other way, not towards him.

"Hey, what the hell do you think you're doin' here Lockhart! The Quidditch field is in practice, get out of here! And get rid of that charm Letter," James scolded the boy who happened to now appear to be frightened of him, likely to the fact he'd been caught and because he was somewhere, as a first-year, he shouldn't have been as well as having something he should not have in his possession.

"Charm Letter? What the hell are you talking about Potter!" Regulus Black's voice came down the entrance.

Sirius grinned and held back as much of his laughter at hearing James and his brother. He knew those two didn't much care for one another, however, Sirius knew those two could make one hell of a team when they put their heads together instead of against one another.

Marching his way towards the kid and stood right between the two stairways with a look of aggravation. And rightfully so. He knew he and his brother had seen a lot of darkness in their young lives, and love charms and potions were things you shouldn't mess with. "Do you have any idea how dangerous that shit is! Come on, hand it over!" Regulus scolded the boy as he held his hand out to Lockhart and took the charmed letter and dispelled the letter personally. "Now get out of here," Regulus told him before clearing his throat when Lockhart attempted to run the way he had come, "No, the front entrance is an entrance for a reason, I will walk you out myself if this is the case boy. Come along." He told him and escorted the boy to the front entrance, making sure to block Sirius and the two girls hiding with him before walking away with Lockhart.

Laughing, James walked down the way of the stairway he'd caught Lockhart in and leaned against the wall of the stairway Sirius, Aurelia and Lily hid in, "Well, you are sure lucky I came this way when I did." James said with amusement. He laughed when Lily groaned and marched out with annoyance and began her walk away from the Quidditch field, dragging Aurelia along behind her.

Smiling to the boys, Aurelia gently waved to James and Sirius, then to the two Hufflepuff's as Lily dragged her across the field to leave. Her eyes met the boy who'd escorted Lockhart from the field and she couldn't help but softy smile at him, though she felt a sudden sadness in him as she was filled with a sudden flood of cold and loneliness. She opened her mouth to say something to him, but he turned his head from her and got back onto his broom, and flew off. "Who was that?" Aurelia asked Lily.

"Regulus Black, Sirius's little brother, Slytherin House," Lily told her.

November 24th, 1974

Aurelia smiled as she laced up one of the third-year Ravenclaw's dresses, the girl had been having trouble lacing her peach dress, when she had come down from the rooms into the common room the lacings had come undone and her dress had almost fallen right off the young girl. Margaret had luckily been walking down behind her and had stopped the dress from coming off the poor third-year, Margaret was talking to the girl, trying to calm her down from the almost heart attack she had almost had from humiliation while Aurelis fixed the lacings and set the dress. It was a classic style with silk long bell sleeves and a gently sweet-heart dip. She looked lovely. Looking over towards the stairs leading up to the rooms, the sound of heels clapping against the blue carpeted wooden stairs, Heather was rushing from the Common rooms in a golden yellow floor-length, spaghetti-strapped dress with a c-neck front. The gown was lovely on the blonde Ravenclaw, hugging each curve of her lovely figure. Aurelia would not lie, she was envious of Heather's lovely curves, however, she knew she was lovely all her own as well. But as Aurelia watched the blonde rushing from the Common room in a rush, almost as if she were angry with the way the girl had a firmly set scowl on her previously gorgeous face.

Looking to Margaret who shared her own confusion about what had caused that behavior, Aurelia shrugged, wished the young third-year a good night, and walked upstairs to their rooms where she found Kathrine sitting on her bed, face in hands as she cried. Her velvet slim-fitting blue dress was still draped over the end of her bed as she cried into her hands. Concerned, Aurelia knelt in front of Kathrine and gently grabbed her arms, and moved her hands away from her red puffy eyes. "Kathrine, what happened?"

Shaking her head, Kathrine moved to turn away from her friend. "It doesn't matter," she cried.

Sighing, and frankly happy she hadn't gotten dressed yet, Aurelia crawled up onto Kathrine's bed with her and wrapped her arms around her crying friend, letting Kathrine cry into her.

Margaret sighed, tapping her feet nervously as she waited for Kathrine and Aurelia to come down from the rooms. But they'd been up there for what felt like all night. James, Sirius, Lily, and the rest of the friends from Gryffindor, even Moody, and his girlfriend, Dorcas, were there waiting with her inside the Ravenclaw Common room. "They've been up there for the last hour and a half. I haven't gone up since I hear Kathrine crying. I-I didn't know what to do."

Softly sighing, Dorcas reached over towards Lily and took hold of the girl's hand and Margaret's, and began to head up. "We'll be back," She told the others. Walking into the girl's Room, Dorcas walked them towards Kathrine's bed. The curly-haired brunette was wrapped up in Aurelia's arms refusing to talk.

Concerned, Doras moved around the bed to them and knelt in front of the bed. "Kathrine?" She softly asked the young girl.

Kathrine shook her head and continued to cry.

The girls in the room with her all shared an expression of worry, she wouldn't tell them. However, they had a suspicion they already knew what had her in tears. Heather and Kathrine had been keeping it all a secret. Their relationship. None of them had wanted to ask them about it because they knew that if anyone had then rumors would spread and cause the girls trouble with their family. And that was the last they wanted to cause.

They'd let her cry for a while longer, unsure what to say to her. It wasn't until Sirius walked in with a sad sigh and marched over to them, shoeing the girls away, "Relia, give her to me." He told her calmly. Lifting his lifelong friend into his arms, Sirius walked her over to a corner in their room and cuddled themselves up into the small crook, his arms wrapped around her and a loving kiss to the top of her head. They didn't hear what he was saying to her, but it was slowly but surely working on the distraught girl. After a while, Sirius stood from the corner with Kathrine whipping her face clean of the tears, Sirius hugged her tightly and kissed her cheek. "Come on Kat, let the ladies help you get ready for the party, let's go down and have some fun. Alright?"

Nodding, Kathrine sniffed back her remaining tears and grabbed her dark blue velvet dress from over the end of her bed and began to dress, yet she refused to look into the mirror she stood in front of as Lily buttoned the many buttons on the back of her dress, nor did she look into the mirror when Margaret pulled her long curly hair back from her face and into a low bun on the base of her skull with a few pieces of her lovely curls hanging loose from the sides of her face. She wore no makeup other than the gentle glossy lip-balm Aurelia had glided across her lips.

The night was a bustling of fun for many people. However, Kathrine had avoided her family as well as Heather, doing her best to not look at the girl she had been in love with from year one of school starting. Kathrine looked gorgeous in her dress, and Heather had definitely noticed. However, her behavior was anything but positive. It was Heather's behavior that had Kathrine clinging close to Aurelia, Lily, or a few of the others. She'd even hung near Remus, James, and Peter every now and then when she couldn't be near one of the other girls she was friends with.

Dressed in a floor-length deep red silk dress with a Queen Anne style neckline, the chest and waist lining of her gown had a wrapping style over her small breasts and down around her waist with the skirt being airy and flowing around her as they ran out into the chilly night air of November. She'd made her own dress, as well as Kathrine's when the girl had seen her making her red dress as soon as they had heard about the Dinner Party Hogwarts was hosting for the students and their families.

All were invited, but not many none magical parents came, sadly. They had all wished to stay home with the rest of their gathering families back home, which was understandable. James had teased the girls a little with complements of them looking radiant. He'd even gotten a dance out of Kathrine and a few other girls, he'd almost gotten a dance with Lily but she had thought far too hard about it far too quickly and walked off from Potter. He'd appeased himself by kidnapping Aurelia for a dance. However, while they laughed and danced and joked, their fun had come to a swift end when Regulus Black, Sirius's younger brother snatched her up with a glare toward James and swooshed the girl off into a denser crowd. "I don't believe we've had the proper introduction, I'm Regulus, Regulus Black." He introduced himself with an air of refines she honestly assumed he was simply using to appear… either stuck up or proper, by his family's standard that would be.

Trying to smile at him with how he spoke to her as if they were back in the 1800's era, Aurelia tried her best to not giggle at him. Nodding her head, she forced a polite smile. "Yes, I know who you are. You're Sirius's brother. Are you both twins or who's older? I can't quite remember what I was informed of." She asked him curiously.

Scuffing at her, Regulus looked around the dance floor as they danced to the soft melody. "Please, if I were the eldest things would be far different than they are now." He grumbled.

Seeing a familiar look in his dark eyes and curious as to why he was looking around them. Aurelia looked around herself as they carefully turned in their dance, looking at the curious faces looking at them. "Who are you looking for?" she asked curiously. "And why do I suddenly feel as if I am on display?" she asked him.

Taking in a deep and powerful breath, Regulus stopped in their soft dance, his hands dropping from her soft and delicate hand to rest both at her waist as he looked down into her green eyes. He felt a sense of peace there for some reason, a sense of peace in the darkening days. 'Because you are on display.' Feeling no need to say such a thing to her, Regulus simply bowed his head to her, took her hand into his and rose her knuckles to his lips, and placed a gentle and forgiving kiss on her soft hand.

"Reg," Sirius asked calmly, though his tone was cold and clearly full of anger as he walked through the crowd towards them, his grey eyes glaring into his brother's dark brown eyes. Gently taking a hold of Aurelia's hand currently held in his brothers' hand, a hand he had witnessed Regulus kiss so gently, Sirius eased her from his brother's hold and back behind him. "What the bloody hell do you think you are doing?" he questioned.

Rolling his eyes to his older brother, Regulus looked to a confused Aurelia and nodded his head to her in silence. "Brother," was all Regulus said to his brother as he walked away calmly.

Softly huffing at Sirius, Aurelia glared at the back of his head, then at him when he turned to look at him and looked at her with surprise and his own confusion.

Seeing her confusion from the corner of his eyes, Sirius turned to look at her angry green eyes and shrugged, "What?" he asked her.

Huffing, Aurelia slipped her hand from Sirius's hand and walked away from him. She wasn't exactly expecting him to follow after her, but he had.

"Relia? Relia, what's wrong? Oh, come on, you can't actually let me think you were okay dancing with him?" He snapped a bit with irritation.

It had been then she turned on him, "Are you serious right now, Sirius Black? I was surprisingly alright, he wasn't hurting me. It was just a dance. Yes, alright, I admit that I felt a little uncomfortable because I was being stared at. But he was not hurting me. I am not your girlfriend, I am not your wife. I am your friend, I am allowed to dance with people."

"But not me? You won't dance with me, for a single moment." He slightly snapped. Not realizing how completely ridiculous he had just sounded until he'd said it. Sighing with regret for even saying that, Sirius pinched the bridge of his nose. "I'm sorry, that was completely out of line, I haven't even asked you to dance with me, so I shouldn't have said that." He apologized softly.

Still a bit upset with him, Aurelia sighed and glanced over to Kathrine sitting in a corner all by herself. Feeling worried for the girl who'd become her best friend, she looked to Sirius sadly. "What can we do to help her?" she asked him, wanting to change the subject.

Glancing the way she had previously looked, Sirius felt his heart fall and break for his childhood friend in Ravenclaw. "I don't know. Be there I guess." He said before looking closer and began to chuckle. "Well, I'll be damned. Moody, you slick bloke. He even got Dorcas in on it. Damn. Major credit." Sirius muttered, really to himself, but he was so intrigued he didn't realize he'd said it loud enough that Aurelia had heard him, as well as Lily, walking by.

Confused, both Lily and Aurelia looked towards Kathrine, and now that Aurelia looked closer, she noticed Dorcas, Alastor's girlfriend's hand resting on Kathrine's thigh, and cuddling up to the obviously still upset teenager while Alastor simply sat beside Kathrine with his arm draped around both girls simply looking off into the distance of the throng of people blatantly ignoring them and Kathrine's hand entwined with Alastor's hand. Nothing inappropriate was going on. However, the way the three of them were cozying up to one another did give others who may happen to see them the wrong impression. Especially now that the three were leaving together suspiciously.

Her mouth now hanging open, Aurelia felt an embarrassed chill run through her, "Sirius, Sirius, we-we have to stop them. They can't possibly be thinking of-"

Bursting into a round of laughter, Sirius wrapped an arm around Aurelia, "Oh come now, you can't possibly think those three are by any means innocent. Even if we are young. It does happen more often than many like to assume it does. We're fifteen, love. It's going to happen a lot more often than you would think. Come now. How about that dance I haven't asked for yet." He asked her with a charming sideways smirk.

Blushing up at his smirking self, Aurelia felt her heart thump dangerously in her chest, and before she knew it Sirius was dragging her off onto the dancefloor where they had danced together for far more than one song.

Lily had blushed dangerously, just like Aurelia had, but had snuck off to find herself from the runaway imaginations of being so intimate with someone, or in Kathrine's case, two people. 'I don't think I'd have that kind of courage to do that. Then again, is it courage? Or desperation to forget about the pain she suffers tonight because of Heather's unknown reasons for breaking her heart? I wish I knew the answer really.'

Sirius and Aurelia laughed and giggled as Sirius danced them around the crowd as if nothing was wrong and out a side door, running them down side halls and out towards a side courtyard.

"Sirius, what are you doing? We could get in trouble," Aurelia softly asked him, looking over her shoulder. Her red hair was wrapped up in a low messy bun on the base of her skull like Kathrine's had been done in, though she had ended up curling her hair to add some class and style to match her dress and a silver bracelet clipped around her wrist with a tiny sapphire blue tear-drop gem hanging off of a second chain of her bracelet.

Smiling over his shoulder at her, Sirius softly chuckled and charmfully spun her around to face him and pulled her back into his arms with some laughter at hearing her soft laughter, her blushing cheek, and her bright smile. With the moon high in the night sky, Sirius smiled as he looked down at her happiness with the moon adding to her beauty. He was unable to help himself when he cupped her cheek in hand and kissed her. Her lips were so soft he was far more entranced, he'd been desperate to do this for months. But as she fell into him, Sirius wrapped his arm around her waist and held her flush against him, deepening their kiss. She was welcoming to his unasked kiss as well as returning the invitation as her hand slowly snaked up over his suited jacket and around his neck. Sirius was filled with a sense of pure victory when she pulled herself further closer to him. Her chest and stomach were hot against him he could feel the heat through their clothing, and with the chilled November air gently breezing against them it was as if the cold air was molding them to one another like their souls were bonding and satisfying to one another.

But most importantly, she felt right in his arms, beside him, in his reach, his eyes sight. Aurelia Aurora Newman made him feel whole. Fulfilled. And at peace with everything he hated about himself and the darkness that followed his family. Sirius Black was in Love.

*** Thanks for reading! Sorry, it took me so long to get this chapter up! I know a lot of people are probably confused, but I decided to do something really crazy with this life of thrice idea. I have planted a few breadcrumbs for the Marauder's fox 1 and 2 stories in the previous fiction work leading to this story. So, in order, it is now From the Beginning, The Marauder's Fox 1 and 2, One Way, and the last one will be called "When it's All Over". So, keep your eyes open for it :) and wish me luck.
