Chapter 5

11:00 PM

Jim Richard, aged 42, and David Scott, aged 36. They are both security guards at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza that work every day of the week. On weekends, their shift is cut in half. They also work during the day.

The two men are usually the last ones to leave the building when it closes. When the day shift guards leave, they are replaced by a night shift guard, who usually watches the place and make sure everything is ready for the next day. The night guard stays overnight and leaves when the restaurant opens.

Each mascot eventually finished their meals and sat down on their stages, trying to get some rest.

Bonnie yawned and looked at Freddy and Chica.

"You guys, I'm gonna try to sleep now."

"You do that," Freddy replied as he yawned as well.

David walked up to the sleepy mascots.

"Just so y'all know, there will be someone staying the night here. He's a rookie, so don't give him too much trouble, alright?"

"Got it," Freddy said.

David nodded and walked to the door. Jim was already there waiting.

Foxy, who was hiding in the shadows of the curtains in front of him, paid attention to what was going on. He was concerned about what David said.

Someone staying here? A rookie? Why didn't anyone tell me?

Then, he got an idea. Even though he was going to lose his sleep, Foxy decided he was going to find out who this person was.

"There he is," he said to David. A car approached the parking lot and came to stop.

A young man stepped out, eyeing the building. He inhaled, exhaled, and closed the car door.

The glass doors opened. Jim and David were going home.

Jim passed the keys to the night guard.

"Remember what you were taught, man."

"Yeah, I think I got it," the rookie replied.

As Jim and David left, the rookie soon entered the building.

Suddenly, David stopped.

"Uh, Jim? Don't you think we should've told the guy about...you know..."

Jim sighed.

"Look, I'm tired. Let's let him find out and we'll tell him all about it tomorrow."

"Okay..."

They both got in their cars and drove away as the rookie entered the building.

The young night guard looked around but couldn't see anything. It was dark; the mascots could not be seen at all.

As the entrance doors behind him closed, the last two cars left the parking lot. Now, everything was quiet.

The rookie gulped and tried his best to ignore the eerie place.

He took a flashlight out of his pocket and turned it on. The yellow light lit up the wall in front of him, revealing two hallways.

From a distance, Foxy peeked his head out for a slight moment. He looked out to the stage where the rest of his friends were. He squinted, soon clearly seeing Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica sleeping. Despite the lack of light, Foxy could see whatever was around him. His head went back behind the shadows.

He turned to look at the man, who was now moving towards the hallway.

I will find out who this man is, he vowed.

The night guard, flashlight in his hand, walked into the right hallway. The light from the dining area soon disappeared the further he went.

He soon approached the end of the hallway. On the left side, there was an open entrance to his designated office. The light from the flashlight illuminated the room.

The rookie slowly stepped in the office and looked around, turning his flashlight to show every part of the room. Soon, he found a light switch and flipped it upwards. The light on the ceiling lit up the room and the ends of the hallway.

The young man pulled up a swivel chair behind him and looked at the desk in front of him. There were many things on the desk and the walls of the office: posters, monitors, a desktop computer, papers, an office telephone, a calendar, a desk fan, and a small Fazbear Entertainment brand cupcake figure sitting on top of a monitor.

The night guard sat back in his chair as he turned off his flashlight. He pushed it back in his pocket.

As he inspected the place once again, he could only hear the sound of the air flowing through some vents throughout the building.

It's so quiet, he thought to himself.

Today is the man's first day as a night guard. He finished his training a day prior to his current shift. A bit nervous, he tried remembering what he was told.

Soon, he figured out that he should just wait until he received a message on the phone.

He sat back and waited, looking around as he did, once more. He noticed that there were two large, square buttons next to the doorway; they were for the door and the lights.

The man then sat up and looked at his watch. It was now 11:15 PM.

He looked away from the watch and then looked at the desk. He noticed the computer and maneuvered his way towards it.

He looked down and found the desktop on the floor. Since there was nothing to do at the moment, the rookie decided to turn on the computer. He pressed the power button, which made the light on the tower turn green, as well as the sound of the computer's system.

The rookie looked up at the medium-sized monitor, noticing the reflection of his face. Within seconds, the screen on the monitor powered on and displayed an activation screen.

Meanwhile, Foxy had been paying attention to the man who walked past the hallway. After a couple of minutes, he knew that the man probably wasn't going back to the dining area.

Now's my chance, he thought.

Foxy stood up and stepped out of his cove quietly. He crouched down, trying not to make himself visible at all. Approaching the hallway, he passed the right pathway and stopped, back against the wall.

Foxy's ear twitched as he was attempting to hear whatever the man was doing.

Since he is technically a fox, Foxy has greater hearing than that of humans. His eyesight and speed are also at a great level.

In fact, every mascot has their own ability that they haven't used yet.

Freddy has great strength, Bonnie can jump at a high distance, Chica can slow her movements mid-air, as well as balance and an ability to glide. Freddy, Bonnie, and Foxy all have great hearing and eyesight. Chica's eyesight is not as great as the rest, but she has a very quick reaction time.

Unlike the rest, Foxy has one eye that can't see properly: the right eye. Although he believes he is blind in one eye, it is just very blurry.

The most incredible thing about all four of these creatures is that they can think, talk, and move just like humans.

But they are not humans or animals. They may have the anatomy of a human body, but they have features that only animals have.

What are they?

All Foxy could hear was the sound of a swivel chair moving. Eventually, he could hear a computer turning on.

Now what's he up to?

In the office, the computer was completely powered on. The monitor, however, displayed another loading screen for a program. Then, the loading screen disappeared as a new window popped up. It had an ongoing timer for around 40 minutes.

"40 minutes???" The night guard sulked. He sighed.

"What am I gonna do for 40 minutes?" He mumbled.

Foxy heard this and took notice.

40 minutes...for what?

After some thinking, Foxy decided to go back. He did not want to stand against a wall for 40 minutes.

He quietly walked back to the cove and hid once more.

Now, both were waiting for something they know nothing about yet.

11:57 PM

Foxy had a hard time keeping his eyes open. His body needed the rest; the harder he resisted, the more he wanted to sleep.

His eyes were half open at this point, simultaneously keeping an ear open to find out what was going on.

The night guard, meanwhile, dozed off on the chair. It had been a good 20 minutes since he fell asleep.

Foxy got up slowly and looked out to the stage, yawning.

He could still see his friends sleeping.

Maybe I should've just got some shut-eye, he thought.

The computer, which had been on for a while now, finally got to the last second on its timer.

As the digital numbers stuck 0, the screen displayed blinking words that read:

Shift Ready!

The quiet of the night was finally broken by a loud ringing coming from the telephone. The night guard woke up with a shock, nearly falling back on his chair.

Foxy's eyes opened up as he heard the phone from the office.

Something's happening!

He got up again and went to the same spot he was at last time.

The night guard grabbed his forehead and yawned. His eyes squinted because of the light.

He pushed his chair up to the desk and desperately looked for a button to push to make the phone shut up.

At last, he found a green button and pressed it, making the green light disappear and be replaced by a red light on another button.

At first, there was static.

The man and Foxy both listened closely to what the phone has to say.

The static stopped.

"Hello! Thank you for choosing to be a part of our crew at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza! As a night guard, you have a six hour shift overnight at the restaurant. Since this is your first day, allow me to describe some of the rules and instructions that you must follow as a night guard."

"A night guard?" Foxy murmured quietly.

The rookie night guard paid all of his attention to the voice-mail.

"There are three basic rules as a night guard. One, do not leave your office unless there is an emergency. You must stay within your office to maintain everything from a distance, as well as completing your shift."

The man looked out of his doors and made a skeptical face.

"That's weird."

"Two, do not tamper with animatronics. As you know, the animatronics at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza are key to making the franchise reality. It is best to not mess with any of the animatronics. For example, do not disassemble, do not damage, do not contaminate, and do not mess with the circuits."

"I'm not gonna touch those things anyway," the man mumbled.

"Three, pay attention to the cameras at all time, if not, most of the time given. Here at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, we care about your safety, as well as the customer's. To keep the place in order, it is important to keep an eye out for any unwanted situations, such as people lurking around the area, objects falling to the ground, animatronic movement, or messes in general."

"Huh? Animatronic movement???"

"If you cannot solve a problem on your own, then you may wait until the morning from other staff members to help."

"Wait, what did he mean by animatronic movement???"

"Now, here are some instructions for your first day. It is now 12 o'clock midnight, which means your shift has now begun. The first thing you should do is check your security cameras on the computer placed on the desk in front of you."

He looked at the computer monitor, now loading up a screen. Eventually, it gave him access to every security camera in the building.

Outside of the office, cameras inside and outside activated. A small, red light on the bottom of the lenses could be seen in the dark. Foxy saw this after hearing the phone message.

"Cameras...how did we never notice?" He whispered.

"In total, there are eighteen security cameras; twelve cameras are inside, and six cameras are outside. You are free to click on any of the small squares displaying each camera as time goes by. The camera system is a vital part to your job, since it gives you knowledge on where things are throughout the property."

The night guard did so, looking at some hallway cameras, and then at some outside cameras.

"Basically, all you have to do is watch the place for six hours to take care of everything in the restraunt. Not too bad, right?"

It was quiet for a few seconds.

"Anyway, be safe. Remember: always keep an eye out. Goodnight."

And that concluded the message. The lights on the telephone went out with the last bit of silence left on the recording.

"I don't know if I'm gonna like this place," the night guard said to himself.

Foxy took the time to think about the conclusion in the message.

"This man is a night guard who stays here for six hours, this is his first day, he sounds not too motivated, he has several rules, and he can look at any spot in here," Foxy whispered.

His eyes turned to the right hallway on his left. He peeked to get a closer look at the end of the hallway and quickly went behind the corner. He did not want to be spotted by the night guard.

"So...is this guy just sitting there...doing nothing?"

Then, Foxy looked at the main stage. He then thought about he and his friends. A question started to linger in his head.

"Does this man know about us?"

Sweat started to form on the top of Foxy's head. All of a sudden, Foxy started to feel different emotions all at once. He felt desire, nervousness, fear, panic, and stress. Those emotions came out of nowhere, it seemed.

For whatever reason, something was telling him to go interact with the night guard.

He grabbed his head as his breathing started to grow harder.

What's happening?!

Foxy sat down and tried to calm himself, but it was no use.

He suddenly got up and turned to the hallway.

No!

Foxy then realized his body was moving without his control.

I don't want to!

Stop!

Get back to the wall!

Foxy's face grew with worry as he was unwillingly facing the hallway.

He's going to see me!

Before he could take another step, a voice spoke.

"Go."

Huh?

Foxy looked around, not seeing anything.

"Talk to the man, Foxy."

"W-Who are...you?" He asked, gasping.

"Trust me. Go ahead..."

Foxy, still in utter despair, suddenly felt his worry weakening.

What spoke to him? This wasn't even something hard to do, yet he freaked out over that small obstacle.

Foxy inhaled and exhaled.

"I will..."

"I will talk to him."

He wiped a drop of sweat off of his head and walked willingly to the door.

What was that? Foxy questioned.

Unfortunately, he knew he couldn't question it any longer. He had to take care of his dilemma first.

Foxy gulped and looked at the side of the hallway. Thinking about it, the last time he went to the hallway was when they first woke up for the first time.

Foxy slowed down and crouched, not wanting to get the night guard's attention just yet. As he approached the window, he could hear some of the noises coming from the other side.

The chair movements, the murmurs coming from the man, and the clicking of a computer mouse were all things Foxy heard.

Inside the office, the man was browsing through every camera. After he was finished looking at the outdoor cameras, he clicked on the dining room camera. After finding nothing, he checked the next camera, which faced the exit and the Pirate's Cove stage.

He was about to switch cameras until he noticed one thing: the curtains.

"What the hell?" He said.

Foxy's ears pointed up. He turned to look at his stage from afar. The curtains were wide open, which made it obvious he left.

"Oh no, this ain't good..." The night guard muttered. He started to look at other cameras to look for the missing mascot.

Foxy looked at the corner of the hallway. There facing him was a camera that was not checked yet. Foxy gulped and took a few crouched steps back. He got up and went to the middle of the hallway.

Here we go...

The mouse on the computer screen hovered on the right hallway camera. The night guard clicked, revealing a figure.

The night guard was frozen in fear. The camera was still showing some static, so the image was not clear at the moment.

The camera soon focused on Foxy, showing everything.

The man stared at the screen in horror.

On screen, however, the figure on the screen smiled and waved at the camera.

As Foxy waved and smiled, he had doubts in his head.

This won't work...

The night guard jumped out of his chair and nearly punched the door button. The red button was now pushed inward, causing a beeping sound. Then, some mechanical roars from the door could be heard. The giant metal door was closed shut.

Foxy stopped waving and looked at the door.

No...don't make him scared...

Talk to him...

Foxy took some steps to the window. The night guard heard these steps and was frozen in fear.

"Get away..." He whispered. "It's the first hour..."

Foxy's body appeared through the glass window. He then turned, placing his hand on the window, and looked in with a harmless face.

The night guard did not got the message, however.

"STOP!!! GET AWAY!!!"

Foxy was frightened by the screaming man.

He gave a hand signal, trying to tell him to wait and calm down.

The man stopped screaming, and looked at his hands.

Foxy was still, and once again placed his hand on the window. The night guard was still scared, but was now curious.

Is this thing trying to talk to me...?

Foxy cleared his throat.

"Can you hear me?" He asked.

The man's eyes grew wide. Although his voice was muffled behind the thick glass, he could hear the strange creature speak to him.

Wait, did he just speak? He thought.

"Please listen. I am not wanting to hurt you."

Huh?

Foxy looked at himself. He looked at his hands, his arms, his legs, and his chest. He then looked back at the frightened employee.

"What I am about to tell you is...well, it's complicated."

"What do you want from me???" The man asked.

"I only want some time to talk."

It was silent.

Foxy looked to the door and pointed to it with his thumb.

"Is it okay for you to open the door?"

The man shook his head.

Foxy sighed.

"Talking through a window is a struggle, you know."

The man thought about his decision for a good while. Even though he was scared deep down, he was tempted to actually open the door. Why?

Then, the man looked at the face of the figure, inspecting the one yellow eye. It's color was bright in the dark, almost like a light.

It was strange. The more the night guard looked at Foxy's face, the less scared he got. His worry started going down like magic. Did he really seem trustworthy?

He didn't know. The man got up slowly and blinked.

"Are you going to hurt me?" He asked, still cautious.

Foxy looked at him with a sincere face.

"Why would I?"

And there was one answer.

The man then slowly approached the door and lifted his arm. His finger shivered as he moved it closer to the button.

At last, he grew brave enough to touch the button again. The button beeped and the door opened with a mighty mechanical whir.

Foxy walked up to the doorway and looked inside the office. As he took some steps in, he backed up, giving distance away from the man who was still scared.

He laid his back against the wall, next to the doorway. Foxy looked the man.

"Are you scared of me?"

The man nodded.

"What makes me scary?"

The night guard's eye looked around before focusing on the fox.

"You're...um...aren't you a..."

Foxy's eyebrow was raised.

"You're different..."

"F-From what I've...from what I've seen...uhh..."

"...Do you understand me?"

Foxy nodded.

"I understand every word you say."

"Are you a robot?"

"I am not a robot."

"R-Really?"

"It's true."

Foxy smiled.

The man was surprised, rather than scared.

"How else would I be having this conversation with you?"

"Impossible! How could that be...?"

Foxy shrugged.

"To be honest, I don't even know where I came from. All I know is that being hostile is the last thing I want."

It was silent.

Then, the man stood up, getting rid of his previous, frightened stance.

"You...you wanted to...talk to me?"

"Yes. You know the rest of the mascots here? Freddy? Bonnie and Chica, perhaps?"

"Yeah..."

"Just like me, we are all..."

Foxy didn't know what to say. That man stared at him, waiting for an answer.

"Uhh...we aren't humans, but we are like humans. I guess you could say we are...special. Intelligent creatures, maybe."

"Aliens..." The man spoke.

Foxy chuckled.

"No, not that. Wait, what are aliens?"

"Space creatures. Haven't you heard of them? They're small, green, they have big heads..."

"I don't know what you're saying," Foxy told.

"Wait a minute, I'm trying to explain aliens to you...my bad."

"I'm Foxy."

"Hmm?"

"Foxy the Pirate Fox. I guess that's my name, so call me Foxy."

"I don't know a whole lot of information because this is my second day of...well...existence."

"You've been here for two days?!"

"I don't understand, but I guess that's how it is."

This is going nowhere, Foxy thought.

Foxy turned his head to look at the night guard.

"I know how you feel. Trust me. This is the third time I revealed myself entirely to a human," explained Foxy. "What are you?"

"Uh...I'm a night guard," the man replied.

"I knew it," Foxy said triumphantly. "I was curious, so I decided to see what you were doing. Is that alright with you?"

The man slightly nodded.

Then, Foxy knew what he was supposed to say.

"Along with revealing my identity, I also wanted to inform you on some things real quick."

"What's that?" the night guard asked.

Foxy gave him a reassuring grin.

"You don't have to worry a single bit here. You know why? It is our job to make sure everyone who enters this building is safe and happy. As a new staff member, I gladly welcome you here."

Foxy reached his hand out.

"Safe? So you won't...let's say...hurt me or anything?"

The man looked at his bright yellow eye once more. This time, it gave off a welcoming look.

"You have my word."

The night guard looked at Foxy's gray hand, which was asking for a handshake.

The man breathed in and grabbed the mascot's hand. He soon felt the warmth in his hand as they shook. They let go.

Foxy stood up. As he stood in the doorway, he turned back towards the night guard, gave a thumbs-up, and smiled.

"Take care."

He turned back and walked into the hallway.

As Foxy walked away, he made some concerned faces to himself.

I hope I didn't disturb him too much, he thought.

The man, still shocked, looked outside of the doorway and watched Foxy walk away. He looked at his hand.

"He really isn't a robot..."

6:15 AM

The night guard was finally done with his first and unusual night. As he walked into the dining room, he looked at the main stage. The morning sunshine lit up the entire room, which allowed him to see everything.

He saw the rest of the mascots, who were still asleep. He then looked at Pirate's Cove.

The man walked to the front door and took a quick look.. There was nobody in the parking lot yet. So, he walked up to the Pirate's Cove stage and leaned in.

"Thank you."

He walked away and opened the door. As his shadow disappeared, Foxy's head popped out from the curtains.

"You're welcome."
