YouTube Prompt: Natsu tribute to 'All Fired Up' by Pat Benatar.
Gray was exhausted.
He has fought in many battles in his life, Lullaby, Lyon, Phantom Lord, Jellal and his bunch of lunatics, his own guild, dark mages, demons, and even Zeref himself, but he has never felt as exhausted as he was now after dealing with two children. Yes, that's right, children. Though in his defence one of them was the spawn of Natsu, so technically she was demonic in her own right.
(Don't tell Lucy he said that or he would never live to see thirty.)
Natsu and Lucy went out for a job which unfortunately clashed with Erza and Jellal going on a S-Class mission, Wendy's visit to Lamia Scale, Laxus and Mira being away for a Council meeting, Lisanna and Bickslow on their own job, and Gajeel and Levy's family holiday at some great library or the other which meant, of course, that Alzack and Bisca's spare bedroom was already being used by little Edward, the triplets were destroying Elfman and Evergreen's house, and none of the other guild members were exactly prime babysitting material, thus Gray and Juvia were taking care of Nashi for the next few days.
Which wouldn't be so bad, after all Nashi was a cute little three-year old that behaved perfectly three quarters of the time (all Lucy's influence), if it wasn't for the fact that Gray's son obviously enjoyed riling Nashi up
So far Gray had to put out three fires, thaw the house out four times, mop up Juvia's tears of frustration as she accidentally began to flood the kitchen, and break up seven physical fights – four of which Nashi was winning much to his embarrassment. He'll have to train Ur all the more, he can't have Natsu's kid beat up his own – and it wasn't even eleven o'clock in the morning.
Thankfully, Juvia gathered her wits up and whisked the (still) bickering children away for the mid-morning nap.
Gray flopped onto the sofa and groaned into one of Juvia's embroidered cushions as he let waves of exhaustion take him away.
He was ready for his own mid-morning nap.
Seriously. They were three year olds, how could they have this much energy already? He was fairly certain Ur still couldn't walk properly last week and now he was tugging at little girl's hairs and pinching them and winding them up into wrestling him to the ground.
They grow up way too fast.
When a few minutes suddenly became loser to half an hour and Gray realised he had been laying there in silence and peace for an unnaturally long time (if the children weren't fighting then Juvia was pouncing on him), he reluctantly got up and made his way upstairs.
You know, to make sure Juvia hadn't snapped and smothered the children (that's what he would be likely to do).
He found Juvia standing in the doorway of Ur's bedroom, looking in. her arms were crossed and she looked blissfully happy and he couldn't quite help but smile as he drank in the sight of her. Of course, Juvia's well honed 'Gray-sama' senses tipped her off to his presence and she turned to smile at him.
"Gray-sama," Juvia called out quietly, "come and look at this." He crept closer towards her and as he draped an arm round her (which she snuggled into with a reverent sigh) he took in the oddest sight of Ur and Nashi napping. "Juvia literally turned away for a few seconds in search of another blanket. Ur-Kun and Nashi-Chan were very naughty and kept playing tug of war with the main one and when Juvia turned round they were like this."
This, was Ur lying upside down on the bed, his bare feet propped on his pillow, as his head was slightly turned to Nashi's direction. His dark hair fell over his pale, deceptively angelic, face and his lips were slightly parted as little puffs of breath blew out against Nashi's blonde locks. Nashi was laying in the opposite direction, if she was taller her feet would have dangled off the edge of the bed, Gray couldn't see her face as she had her back to them but he had seen Lucy sleep enough to know that whatever expression Nashi had on her face it was equally angelic as his son's.
But the real icing of this peaceful, serene, cake was the fact that Nashi and Ur were tightly holding onto each other's hands. Nashi's tiny peachy-skinned hand was held tightly in his son's pale, cold, grip as he tucked them both under his chin.
"Is that not the most peaceful, and innocent, and sweetest thing, you had ever seen?" Juvia asked. "Juvia looks at this and thinks that all that fighting when Juvia and Gray-sama were younger was worth this moment right now."
"They do look peaceful and innocent," Gray agreed. He took in the unnaturally sweet sight of Nashi and Ur behaving and being quiet and not damaging anything. "….let's drug them so they're like this all the time."
"Gray-sama!"
Juvia punched Gray lightly as a punishment for his terrible suggestion, however, Juvia was a Fairy Tail girl and underestimated her own strength and therefore accidentally sent Gray flying into the door frame.
BANG!
A pair of stormy grey-blue and a pair of dark brown eyes shot open.
Shit.
