Day 4- Night Walks in the Park AU: Bee X Boba
Bee had taken a liking to walking in the park at night. The atmosphere was so much different and she found that intriguing. There were also significantly fewer people, which she always thought of as a bonus. It wasn't as though she couldn't deal with more people, but it was always good to shed a layer of stress, regardless of how small.
However, recently, Bee had seen another person walking too. A man she suspected, always close by her, and too close for comfort in her opinion.
But she supposed a downside to going out at night alone was encountering stalkers.
Although, he hadn't attempted anything. Not that Bee was taking any chances.
One night while going on a night walk, Bee could feel how close the man was to her.
"He's really pushing boundaries," Bee thought grumpily to herself as she slipped her hand into her pocket. She pulled out her brass knuckles and slipped them onto her hands. "But let it be known he'll regret it if he tries anything…"
Bee wasn't planning on attacking him, not first. She wouldn't hide and jump him, but if he did anything…
"Hey!"
Bee didn't hesitate to turn on her heel and swing a punch when the voice was right behind her.
The man let out a cry and Bee readied herself for retaliation.
But, as her eyes adjusted to the very dim lighting, she realized the man wasn't doing anything. Well, except for cradling his eye.
"Kriff!" the man muttered loudly. "What the hell?"
Bee straightened up and relaxed her fighting stance. "That's what happens when you sneak up on people. Especially in the dark."
The man dropped his hands and stared at her. "I was just trying to say hi. I've seen you around, I figured a friend might be nice. Sure, my method of coming up to you wasn't the best, but you didn't have to hit me so hard! Damn…" He rubbed his face again.
"Sorry," Bee said, crossing her arms. "I don't know what else you were expecting."
The man shrugged. "Yeah, me neither," he admitted. "Although, I'll give you credit for that punch. That was impressive. And I know fighting."
"Thank you." Bee decided the compliment was genuine. "You should also be thankful I didn't hit your neck," Bee added, finally taking into account the height of the man.
He stood almost a foot above her, and she could tell from his build that he meant it when he said he knew fighting.
She looked closer at his face. In the dark it was hard to properly examine, but she was sure his face looked nicer when half of it was bruised and swelling.
"Are you okay?" Bee asked. "I am sorry."
The man shrugged. "I'll be fine. I've had worse. But, damn, I really wasn't expecting that."
"I have that effect on people," Bee responded. "Don't know why. Just happens."
"Well, I'd certainly be intimidated by any five foot person who managed to hit me square in the face."
"Five two," Bee frowned. "Don't discount those two inches."
"Alright," the man sighed. "Well, can I ask the name of the lady who forbids the discount of two inches?"
Bee took a deep breath and tried to let the joke slide. But one more comment on her height…she might hit him again. "Bee, short for Bui'cyare. And you?"
The man smirked. "I'm Boba, never short for anything in my life."
Bee rolled her eyes. "You be careful with the short jokes! Or do you want your other eye to be swelling?"
Boba sucked air in through his teeth. "Not really. I'm sorry. It was hard to pass up the opportunity."
"It was rude."
"You walked into it."
Bee stamped her foot. She knew he wasn't wrong. She had set herself up for it. But she wouldn't say it.
"Well," she said briskly, taking off the brass knuckles. "I am sorry for the impressive punch. But you walked into that. Anyway, I should be getting home."
Boba nodded. "Me too. But, it was lovely to talk with you, Bee, short for Bui'cyare!"
He jogged off, waving, before Bee could get in another word.
Bee threw her hands in the air before crossing them again. Maybe he would know better if they met up again. But, for the time being, she decided they were even.
She did hit him very hard.
(But she still might hit him again should he make more short jokes upon another meeting.)
