Day 5- Jewelry Shop AU: Codywan

Cody stood at the checkout watching the customers look through the various jewelry. As he watched he fingered his own rings.

There were couples looking at rings, checking their ring finger sizes. A young girl stood begging her parents for a pair of earrings. And, off away from any crowd stood a man looking at necklaces.

Cody had seen this man before; he came in regularly. The auburn-haired man was most often buying earrings, but necklaces were also common. Rings were usually bought around holidays.

Poor Cody found it very disarming to checkout the man. His eyes twinkled in such a charming fashion and when he laughed, it was contagious.

The first couple times Cody was tempted to ask for his number, but when he kept coming in, Cody could only assume he must already have a significant other.

The man came up to the checkout with the necklace, a simple chain with the outline of a wolf at the front.

"Back again?" Cody smiled.

The man smiled, crinkles at the corners of his eyes. "Yes. And it seems you're here again too."

Cody nodded. "Often am. It's a pretty necklace," he said holding the little package. "Must be for someone very lucky."

The man (Obi-Wan, that was his name! Cody remembered as it showed up on the computer) chuckled. "Oh, she is, she is…"

Cody nodded and handed it to Obi. "There you go, sir. And, good luck with your girlfriend."

Obi-Wan looked startled for a moment then smiled. "Oh, it's not for a girlfriend!" he laughed. "It's for my daughter."

Cody tilted his head. "So, do you ever get any jewelry for your…partner?"

The man shook his head. "I'm not married! Or dating anyone. All the jewelry is for my daughter."

Cody tried to remain composed, and answer quickly. But, the only thought going through his head was that all this time he could have asked for the man's number.

"So," Cody said slowly, blinking. "You're single then?"

Obi's smile widened. "Yes, I am. And yourself?"

Cody was taken aback. That was not the response he'd expected. "Well…um…" he stammered. "Y-yes, I am, actually. I am single."

"Well, excellent," Obi said putting the necklace into his pocket. "Are you free tomorrow for dinner?"

Cody blinked, quite surprised by how this had turned out. "Well…I suppose. Um, yes?"

Obi nodded and took the receipt which had printed out. "Very good then," he said taking a pen from his pocket and writing on the receipt. "Keep the receipt, and I'll see you tomorrow!"

He gave a little wave as he walked out and left Cody standing there dumbfounded. Shaking his head, he came to his senses and looked at the piece of paper in hand.

It had the man's number written on it.
