Summary: Inspired by an episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun. Natsu gets carried away when he smells Lucy.
Pairings: Natsu/Lucy, implied Levy/Lucy friendship, implied one-sided Macao/Mira, implied Happy/Natsu friendship, and general other friendship feels.
YouTube Prompt: Natsu/Lucy video to 'Just Say Yes' by Snow Patrol.
Natsu was used to smelling all sorts of weird stuff.
He does, after all, live with a bunch of powerful, strange, mages with unique magic, and they all smelled funny. For example Erza smelt like the steel of her blades, a strange spice, and cake, Gray smelt like winter in general, Juvia smelt like the sea, Levy was all ink and books and more paper, and Lucy….
….Lucy smelt weird.
It really wasn't until Natsu met (and smelt) all the celestial spirits that he realised it was stardust and whatever perfume Lucy was favouring at the time. Sometimes she covered it with a flowery scent, or a fruity one, or even a sweet one that almost made her smell like Erza.
Today she smelt entirely different once again.
Natsu had been in the middle of doing push-ups on a table because….well, what else is there to do when Gray isn't around to beat up and Lucy is taking her time to actually arrive at the guild? Since he had his one-sleeved, long, jacket on he had taken it off to avoid getting it too sweaty (Lucy got all weird and fussy if he was too sweaty for some reason), and was almost as half naked as Gray on an average day when Lucy walked in.
He stopped immediately when he caught whiff of her and jumped up excitedly, eager to go on the next big adventure, only to pause as he caught hold of the scent of something different. Lucy stood right in front of him, her cheeks all pink and flushed, her brown eyes darker than ever before, her mouth open ever so slightly, and her breathing was all weird.
But none of that was as weird and delicious as her scent was right now.
It was richer, muskier, and…..just yum. "What is that smell?" He leaned in close and inhaled deeply, his eyes fluttering shut as he took in the new scent. "Is that you?"
Lucy's cheeks puffed out furiously "Are you trying to say that I stink?" she huffed.
"Yes," Natsu took another sniff. "It's nice!" he added hastily as Lucy lifted an arm to hit him. "Really nice," he reassured her again.
"Hmmph!" Lucy dropped her arm and frowned bewilderedly. "I think I see Levy-Chan. I'm going to say hi."
Natsu wasn't even listening anymore, he was trying to figure out exactly what it was that Lucy smelt like by sniffing her as she walked past. He leaned in closer and closer as he took whiff after whiff and still couldn't figure it out. Really nice," he said dreamily as Lucy walked round to him in order to greet Levy. "Really, really, really ni-"
His nose then bumped into something soft, and bouncy, and really smelt like Lucy, and the detergent she used on her clothes.
The whole room froze and turned to look at them as Lucy stiffened and Natsu stared at the expanse of her back and hips, still trying to work out her scent…
…..and then he realised….Natsu's nose pressed against Lucy's backside.
He was sniffing her bottom.
"EEK!" Natsu barely dodged Lucy's punch as she whirled round furiously. "WHAT ARE YOU?" she screeched. "A DOG?!"
"No," Natsu blinked, "I'm a Dragon, remember?"
"Jeeze, Salamander," Gajeel said disgustedly, "I know we weren't raised by humans but that's not an excuse to go sniffing people's bottoms."
"It was an accident!"
"At least it was just his nose," Cana smirked filthily, "he could have easily been poking you with something else."
"Probably will be in a minute," Gajeel muttered, "if he's sniffing Bunny Girl's behind like a dog what's to stop him from humping her leg like one?"
Lucy squealed and ran to Levy which also happened to be the furthest place in the room from him.
That kinda hurt.
It wasn't like he was going to start humping her leg or anything, he had manners!
"It was an accident!" Natsu protested.
"Sure, Natsu," Macao said sarcastically, "just like the time I accidentally brushed Mira's boob when I took my drink from her tray this morning."
"But it was an accident!" Natsu wailed. "I'm not a pervert like you!"
He was ignored entirely, mainly because Mira had appeared behind Macao and Wakaba with a dark, sinister, aura around her that immediately made both Macao and Wakaba gulp audibly.
"And just how it was an accident that I spat in your drink," Mira added sweetly, "knowing you would do that because you always do that."
Macao suddenly pushed his drink away while Wakaba laughed at him. "Oh come on!" Macao snapped. "She spit in yours too!"
That shut Wakaba up pretty quickly.
"There, there, Lu-Chan," Levy said soothingly as she patted Lucy's arm comfortingly, "I'm sure Erza will be quick to avenge the virtue of your bottom when she comes home tonight."
"Don't tell Erza!" Natsu cried out alarmed. "It was an accident!"
"Honestly Natsu," Happy rolled his eyes, "I know you're a bit uncivilised," Natsu's shout of 'oi, what's that supposed to mean' was immediately ignored by his so called best friend, "but I didn't think you had manners of a dog."
"I SAID IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!"
This went on all afternoon, and no one would believe that it was just an accident, and Lucy spent the entire day avoiding him like he had rabies or something ("You probably do seeing as you act like a do-" "IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!") Which meant it was impossible to make her go on a job with him or anything.
With nothing better to do, he went back to doing push-ups without his jacket on.
For some reason the weird scent from Lucy just got stronger.
