A List of Names.
All rights for the Harry Potter Characters and story belong to JK Rowling. These are just sandcastles built along her beach that will disappear when the tide changes. Thanks for the great story she brought to the world.
In the year of the Tri-Wizard Tournament, several young women at Hogwarts are driven to despair by the machinations of meddling men. In an act of desperation, they take steps to remove the meddlesome and cantankerous wizards. No major ships, bashing DD, Snape, and MG. Several OC's are the primary characters in the story. Harry and his friends as observers mostly.
The other schools arrive, and chaos ensues.
CHANGE SCENE – TalkingIn October, the ghosts of Jessica Howell and Myrtle Warren began a concerted effort to spy on the Hogwarts professors. Jessica discovered that Myrtle enjoyed scaring young wizards while they were in the showers. The shrieks in all four dormitories among young wizards became common and there was talk among the professors about attempting to confine Myrtle to the lavatory on the second floor once again.
"Even ghosts have to obey the rules," Dumbledore said when he attempted to reason with the ghosts. Several of the older ghosts laughed at the headmaster. The Baron reminded Albus of the rules he regularly ignored or pretended didn't exist.
"You changed the rules, Albus Dumbledore," Peeves said as he glanced at the portraits of the former heads of Hogwarts and Fawkes. Then the spirit added, "The castle's permanent residents are no longer forced to obey you as exactly as we did when you started as headmaster."
While Dumbledore dealt with rebellious portraits (who spread the word to all the other portraits in the castle), elves who hesitated to follow the older wizard's commands, and these troublesome ghosts, Jessica and Myrtle continued their spying and discovered the terrible secret in the DADA professor's quarters. Jessica wanted to expose the Death Eater immediately but Myrtle and Peeves suggested they use the information to pull a masterful prank.
"We'll pick the right time to change the Polyjuice when Fake-Moody is in a large crowd where Dumbledore can't hide the body this time," Myrtle said.
Jessica and Myrtle agreed to not tell anyone for now and watch Fake-Moody carefully. When the Goblet of Fire is delivered to the Great Hall, they noticed that Fake-Moody begins studying the artefact every night. When they find him casting multiple spells on the goblet, Jessica asked Peeves to jinx the goblet with some prank charms. On a Thursday evening, Fake-Moody cast several spells on the goblet and when he returned to his quarters, found that his face was now glamoured to resemble Albus Dumbledores. Nothing he could do reversed the glamour and as a consequence, Fake-Moody was forced to cancel classes on Friday and hide in his quarters for the entire weekend when the two schools arrive.
CHANGE SCENE: Library ConversationsTrying to move ahead with their studies, Angelina and Edwina met in the library and worked together. One evening, they discusses the transfiguration and charms project that Eddie had with Jessica for their seventh-year creation.
Eddie explained the plan the two witches were developing and confessed, "I need to know more about the clothing washing machines and clothing dryers used by muggles."
"Let me get a muggle-born to help you," Angelina replied, thinking of a brilliant witch in Gryffindor House.
"We can't be seen – Rookwood would go spare and order me about," warned Eddie.
With the assistance of Madam Pence, a private reading room in the library was scheduled where Edwina Rosier was introduced to Harry Potter and Hermione Granger by Angelina Johnson. The witch was amazed at the things Potter and Granger told her about these machines.
"And why do muggles have two machines instead of one?" Eddie asked.
"The mechanics behind washing and drying are too different. I suppose," Granger finally said.
Potter smiled and said, "And if there are two machines, there are twice as many sales."
At that point, the ghost of Jessica Howell appeared through a wall and mentioned that Alastor Moody was manipulating the Goblet of Fire to select four champions.
"Where's Myrtle?"
"She's hovering in a hallway that leads to reading rooms away from here. She's going to draw Snape away from you and me."
"That wizard is relentless."
"You have no idea," Ghost Jessica replied. "Snape is hunting me now. He invented a potion that he thinks will destroy my ghostly form or at least confine me to one room in the castle."
"What?" asked Eddie. "He can't do that."
"Oh, don't worry. I substituted the potion he created for some coloured water – well – Peeves did. That spirit is great! And Myrtle's got lots of ideas too. Anyway I'm going to let Snape douse me at Halloween and do a big scene about pain, reveal all his secrets, and then go medieval on his…uh…wallop him good."
"Don't kill him," counselled Angelina.
"Why not?"
"Then he'd become a ghost and you'd have to fight him all the time."
"Naw, when Snape dies. He goes straight to hell…after he stops in purgatory to let other people beat on him for a time."
"What are we going to do about the goblet of fire?"
Jessica smiled her most ghostly terrifying ghostly smile and said, "I want a list of names to submit to the Goblet of Fire.
"You're a ghost. How can you submit a name?"
"That's my secret," Jessica said. "Now who do we want to subject to dragons, freezing water, and then a bunch of wild, magical creatures in an impenetrable maze before dealing with Lord Voldemort in a graveyard?
"Huh?" "What!" "How do you know that?"
CHANGE SCENE Helpful ElvesA large group of the ghosts met in the Room of Requirement. They were generally silent while Jessica and Myrtle explained their plan to thwart Fake-Moody, save Harry Potter from the Tri-Wizard Tournament, and force unworthy wizards into the tournament.
The Fat Friar muttered, "And you say that Fake-Moody's plan is complicated! Your plan is just as complicated! How do you think you can make this Goblet of Flames do your bidding and select the three wizards you want to force in?"
"I shall take the slips of paper into the flames myself and give my magic to the goblet as a sacrifice," Jessica said though she knew Myrtle and the others were sad to hear she would leave them so soon.
The Baron nodded and confirmed, "That will move you on to the next great adventure."
The Gray Lady listened carefully and added, "This is an excellent plan. Proceed."
House elves were called to the Room of Requirement and tasked to examine all student papers stored in the room's junk or archives. First, the elves searched through the piles of essays written by former students until they found ones written by Severus Snape (1978), Albus Percival Dumbledore (1887), and Octavius Rookwood (1990).
Then the elves under the direction of Jessica and Myrtle used the headlines and articles from old newspapers to spell the names of schools for the three wizards. Each name was ripped from the essay and the elves used muggle paste to stick the letters to the parchment.
The house-elves found themselves enjoying the activity and were grateful for the game. When they were finished, they had three strips of paper with three names.
Octavius Rookwood, (Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry)
Severus Snape, (Escuela de Pociones Barcelona) / (School of Potion Masters Barcelona)
Albus Percival Dumbledore, (School of Wulfric Before Brian)
CHANGE SCENE: Sacrifice in The Great HallPeeves asked, "Are you sure about this Jessica? There's no way to come back if you do this."
"I'm sure," the just-arrived ghost replied. "It'll be easy to go on."
Interrupting the conversation, the Gray Lady said, "Tell me why you are doing this?"
"This is a way to seek some justice for myself and my friends. Rookwood will make Edwina miserable for years in the future. Snape should roast in hell for a million reasons, and Dumbledore sold me to Thomas Canning and I died in despair."
"Your reason against Snape is not clear and not fair to your soul," the other ghost shook her head. "We do not – cannot – condemn a soul to hell with our curse."
Jessica thought and then said, "Snape denied two witches their places in his class because he was trading favours. These witches cannot have their futures because of him."
The Gray Lady frowned and said, "His power is not absolute. Their desired future is harder to achieve, but not impossible. And Dumbledore interfered to harm the descendant of an old adversary."
"Severus Snape caused harm using his position of power just to inflict pain on Angelina and Francesca."
"Rookwood is almost innocent – he was brought into this by his father and Edwina's father. But he is a willing participant now. And his character is such that your friend will live in despair all the days of her life – an environment where a witch withers away," the Gray Lady replied. "And tell me how you are accomplishing this magic on the Goblet of Fire?"
Nodding her ghostly head in understanding, Jessica said, "The man playing Alastor Moody has cast multiple confundus spells on the goblet in an effort to involve Harry Potter in the contests that will be spread over the year. My sacrifice in the Goblet of Fire will make it select these three above all others."
The Gray Lady glanced at the goblet while Jessica continued, "Peeves will place the slips of paper on the rafter above the goblet. I will use my magic to pull them off and follow them down into the goblet's flames. They will be accepted first and foremost of all the names inserted. It will save my friend Eddie and get revenge on Dumbledore and Snape."
The Grey Lady floated for a moment and then said, "Jessica Howell, you are a brave witch in death, just as you were in life. Rather than permit you to make this sacrifice, I shall take your place."
"No! You've been here a thousand years!"
The Gray Lady smiled and said, "And I am tired. You are young and making changes to help Hogwarts. But there is a task for you…you and your friend Myrtle Warren."
"Of course, your ladyship," replied Jessica. Her ghostly magic was nothing compared to the Gray Lady's when she chose to use it.
"In the room of requirement lies a terrible thing – my mother's diadem that has been corrupted by the wizard named Tom Marvolo Riddle. He split his soul into pieces and one piece is embedded within that diadem. Find the crown and find a way to remove it."
"What? But I don't know anything about souls or jewellery."
"You're a ghost with unlimited powers. Go and speak to the books in the library. Speak to the books hidden in Dumbledore's office. When he is playing Merlin in London or pretending to be a young man again in the Great Hall, you can ask them questions. The phoenix may have clues. Go and ask questions of the walls in the Department of Mysteries. Visit Tom Riddle's spirit lying in a crib in a muggle manor house. You can invade his dreams and take the answers from there."
"That's a lot," Jessica complained.
"But we're ghosts. We don't get tired so long as we don't try and force the living to do something. Books are living. Tom Riddle's spirit certainly isn't alive," Myrtle argued. "Fake-Moody's mind did tell us where the Dark Lord is hiding until next June."
Jessica conceded, "Their plan for the resurrection of Tom Riddle is complicated."
"Whose plan?" asked Myrtle, derision evident in her tone.
"Fake-Moody and Smelly-Nappy's plan is too complicated. They're dependent on a rat to brew complicated potions to fill a cauldron for the summer solstice."
The Grey Lady smiled and said, "When these names are entered and selected, that will throw the kneazle among the pigeons as my mother always said."
"Let's go find that diadem," Myrtle said as she drew Jessica from the Great Hall.
The Grey Lady asked the poltergeist, "Has Moody put Harry Potter's name in the goblet?"
"Yes, my lady."
"Good." She looked up at the rafters above the hall and asked, "Are the papers in place?"
"Yes, my lady," Peeves replied, with a tear running down his cheek.
Smiling gently, the Grey Lady said, "Be happy for me, Peeves. Today, I'll see my mother again."
The ghost of Rowena Ravenclaw's only daughter rose above the Goblet of Fire and with her magic, blew the three slips of paper from the ledge. As the papers floated down, she wrapped the slips of paper inside her ghostly shape and dived into the flames.
The flames in the goblet flickered for a moment but then returned with the same colours as before. And one slip of paper bearing the name Harry Potter flew out and into the hands of the poltergeist who brought it to his mouth and swallowed it.
