My New Life in Equestria.
Chapter 7:
It was late into the evening, and Pinkies party she put on for me was in full swing. All of my friends were there, the Crusaders, the six adult ponies, Zecora, even the Princesses had attended!
I am dressed up in the new attire that Rarity made for me. It's extremely comfortable and very snazzy.
Twilight approaches me.
"Hey Mex, I was just talking to the Princesses, and they agree that your magic lessons with me should begin tomorrow," Twilight said.
"But- but! Can I study with you and go to the school that the Crusaders are going to?" I reply.
"You can, but only after I am satisfied that you can control your magic fully." Twilight replies.
"But how long will that take?" I ask.
"Not long at all! A few weeks at most; with your talent though, I'm sure you'd have it down in only a few days, and then you can join the Crusaders in school." Twilight replies.
"Ah, thanks Twilight! I appreciate it!" I say giving her a quick hug.
"Aww," Twilight says ruffling my mane a bit.
"So, you're our new classmate to come?" An unknown voice says.
I turn around to see the Crusaders behind two fillies who look like they would step on your toes getting down from the high horse they have themselves on, very snooty. I can tell they come from wealth.
One of them has a pink coat, with a light purple and white mane and tail. While the other one has a grey coat with a light grey mix mane and tail.
"I hope so, one day anyway. Who are you?" I reply.
"My name is Diamond Tiara and this is Silver Spoon," Diamond says.
Behind the fillies, I can see my friends cringing and shaking their heads towards me.
"My name is Mex," I say and extend a hoof. It goes ignored.
"The only thing you need to know, if you join our school, is that we are the most important ponies at the school," Diamond says.
"And you're much better off hanging out with us than with those Crusader losers." Silver says.
I glance at the Crusaders and their faces turn to frustration and anger.
"That's enough Silver Spoon." Apple Bloom says walking to my side with the other two.
"Yeah! Buzz off!" Scootaloo said.
Diamond scoffs and says.
"See? How rude." Diamond says as they walk away.
"What was that all about?" I ask.
"Those two are the school bullies, they always pick on us." Sweetie Belle said.
"Yeah! And they think they're so great cuz their families are rich." Apple Bloom said.
"Wow, yeah, they seemed a bit... snooty," I say.
We all look at each other and burst out laughing.
"Hey, everypony! It's time for party games!" Pinkie Pie said.
"Ohh! Come on Mex! Pinkies party games are always the best!" Apple Bloom said.
I followed them to the center of the building where Pinkie had set up a bunch of different kinds of games.
"Alright everypony! Mex is up for Pin the Tail on The Pony!" Pinkie said.
"What?" I said.
"Rules are simple! We'll blindfold you, spin you round and round really fast, and then stand you in front of this poster, all you gotta do is Pin the Tail On the Pony!" Pinkie said.
Before I knew it Pinkie grabbed me and blindfolded me, spun me around, and stopped me.
"Okay go for it Mex!" Pinkie said.
I have no real idea where it is but if I'm perfectly lined up with the poster on the wall, then the missing tail should be right about...
"Wow! That was nearly a bullseye! Well done Mex! Have a cupcake!" Pinkie said. As she lobbed a pink frosted cupcake with sprinkles onto my nose.
"Whoa! That was really fun!" I say while munching the cupcake.
"Yeah! Just wait till you try bobbing for apples!" Apple Bloom said.
"Hold on girls, before that, I wanted a chance to meet my new future student." a pony whom I've never met before said.
This adult pony had a purple coloured coat, with a pale greyish and rose mane and tail.
"Hi Miss Cheerilee!" The crusaders said at once.
"Hello girls, could I speak to Mex for a little while?" Cheerilee said.
"Of course! We'll see you in a bit Mex!" Scootaloo said.
She then turned to me and said.
"Hello Mex, I am Miss Cherilee, the teacher of the school the girls attend here in Ponyville."
"Ah, right. I've heard the girls talk about you, all good things of course" I say with a chuckle.
Miss Cherilee chuckled in return.
"Well, I'm glad to hear that." She replied.
"Now Mex, I wanted to speak to you to get a rough idea of where your current education is. Normally, I would have this discussion with your parents but-" Cherilee said before I cut her off.
"A dead man doesn't have parents" I joked with a giggle.
"Right... I'm sorry to have brought that up" Cherilee replied.
"No no, don't be, I was a guardian for many years before my death and I had never known my parents or any siblings after I was reborn as a guardian for the first time," I say.
"Oh, well. Do you mind if you come around to the school tomorrow morning and we can run a quick little exam to get an idea of where your practical knowledge sits?" Cherilee said with a smile and a hoof on my shoulder.
"Of course! I would love to! Assuming Applejack lets me." I reply.
"I'll go speak to her now, see you tomorrow Mex!" Cherilee said with a smile.
"Bye!" I say while waving.
I walk over to my friends who were sticking their heads into a large tub filled with water and coming up with apples in their mouths.
"Wasn't that fun?" Applejack said as we were heading home.
"Yeah! Pinkies Parties are always a blast!" Apple Bloom said.
Applejack looks over at me with a slightly concerned face.
"You alright Sugar Cube? You seem a little worried." Applejack said to me.
"Oh, no I'm fine, just a little worried about the exam with Miss Cherilee tomorrow morning," I reply.
"There's nothin' to worry about hon, the test is just to find out where you might need help learnin." Applejack said.
"Yeah! Everypony does it before they start school!" Apple Bloom said.
"And it's perfectly natural to be concerned about a test unless your name is Twilight Sparkle" Applejack added.
We all share a giggle as we finish our walk back home.
When we were only a few minutes from home I felt some kind of magic pulse that felt dark.
My guardian instincts kick in straight away, I unfurl my wings and pull magic into my horn ready to fire upon anything that may be nearby.
Applejack and Apple Bloom notice me stopping and turn to face me.
"Mex? Are you okay?" Apple Bloom said.
"Somethings wrong," I say.
"What's the matter Sugar Cube?" Applejack said.
Before I can reply, a giant Timber Wolf jumps out of seemingly nowhere and growls towards us.
"What?! How can a Timber Wolf come this close to the town?" Applejack exclaimed.
"Applejack, please take Apple Bloom and get home quickly," I say while staring down at the wolf.
"No, Mex! We need to run! Come on!" Apple Bloom said.
"Mex! We're not leavin you here by yourself!" Applejack exclaimed.
Before I can reply, the Timber Wolf charges towards us and I unleash the magic I had been gathering as a massive beam directed toward the Timber Wolf. The beam impacts the wolf's face and blows its head off only for the head to re-build itself moments later.
"What the?!" I shout in surprise.
The wolf continues charging and is faster than I thought and reaches me in only a few moments. It swipes its paw at me but luckily the paw is too big to be hit by the claws and just palms me.
I grunt loudly from the hit and got sent flying backward a few meters.
"Mex!" Applejack and Apple Bloom said together.
"Go! Please!" I call back.
"Apple Bloom! Run back home as fast as you can and get Big Mac, then stay there! I'm staying with Mex."
"Okay, I'll go, please be safe!" Apple Bloom said as she started to run.
The wolf seemed to notice as it changed targets and started to chase Apple Bloom.
"Uh uh! No, ya don't!" I say before taking flight and smashing my rear two hooves into its front chest area, sending it back a foot or two.
I can feel the light welling up inside me and smashing together with my magic. I open my eyes with an idea.
"Hey! Wolfy! Try this one on for size!" I say.
I concentrate my magic into my horn and remember my experience with stasis. I launch up to the sky and fire a dark blue beam out of my horn and in an instant, the giant Timber Wolf is flash frozen. I land on the ground and buck as hard as I can towards the frozen wolf. It shatters instantly, leaving parts of frozen timber wolf everywhere.
I turn to Applejack panting.
"Heh, Wolfcicles anyone?" I say while chuckling nervously.
"Ha, funny." Applejack said before running up to me and hugging me.
"What was that Mex?! How'd you do that?" Applejack said after breaking the hug.
"I'm not positive, but that sure felt like stasis did back when I was a guardian," I say.
"Stasis?" Applejack replied.
"Yeah, it's..." I say before I think.
"Should I explain darkness? It might cause her to worry about me even more than she already is!" I think to myself.
"Uh, it's a kind of power that can suspend the target, kind of like ice I guess."
"Wow! That was awesome Mex!" Apple Bloom said behind a mouth agape Big Mac.
"Eeyup!" That was all Big Mac said.
"Apple Bloom! I thought I said to stay home!" Applejack scolded.
"I know, but I couldn't leave Mex! Crusaders stay together!" Apple Bloom replied.
Applejack sighs and hugs Apple Bloom.
"I'm going to have to talk to Twilight about this first thing tomorrow morning." Applejack started.
"She might know what to do." Applejack finished.
I half collapse from exhaustion and try to catch my breath.
Big Mac points a hoof over to me and says.
"Uh, Applejack?"
Applejack and Apple Bloom follow his hoof and look over to me kneeling on the floor huffing and puffing and rush over to me.
"Mex? Are you okay?" Apple Bloom said.
"Yeah, just a little tired. I guess expending that much magic takes it out of ya." I replied with breaths in between every couple of words.
"Come on hon, let's get home, I'll talk to Twilight tomorrow about why a Timber Wolf attacked well outside of the forest."
"Hang on, the stasis won't last forever and when it wears off those pieces can just reassemble, one last thing."
I get up and walk over to the majority of the pieces and bunch them together, I take a deep breath and start mixing my magic with light again and weave it into solar energy imbued with magic. I form it into a dawn blade sword hovering above my horn. A distinct metallic "Shing" accompanies the blade.
"Whoa!" Apple Bloom said in shock.
"Careful hon." Applejack said.
"Burn to cinders!" I call out as I swing the blade at the pile of remains and a curved flaming sword appears and launches towards the pile, engulfing the pile in a light-infused firestorm for a few moments before subsiding and leaving a pile of ash left, leaving the grass underneath it completely untouched.
"W-wait, huh?" Applejack said in amazement.
"How?! We all felt that heat, didn't we?" Apple Bloom said.
"I was in control of the flame the entire time, only burning the pieces and not the environment, I used to be able to do that easily but the mixture of magic dials up the power immensely but, unfortunately, it also depleted the rest of my remaining energy," I say as I fall unconscious.
"Mex! Oh hon, I wish you'd be careful with your magic, Big Mac? Could you carry Mex back for us? We need to get him to bed." Applejack said.
"Eeyup" Big Mac replied as he picked me up and started carrying me the rest of the way to the house.
It's early morning when I open my eyes, I can smell breakfast being cooked in the kitchen downstairs, I look next to me and find Apple Bloom huddled up to me. Just then, Applejack walks into the room and sees that I'm awake.
"She insisted on staying with you again, hope you don't mind."
I smile and put a hoof around Apple Bloom.
"Not at all, it's very comforting knowing I have a friend right next to me"
Applejack smiles.
"Breakfast is nearly ready; I was coming up to get you two." She replies.
At that moment Apple Bloom yawns awake and groans.
"Mornin Mex!" She says as she hugs a little tighter.
"Mornin Apple Bloom, Applejack said breakfasts ready, if it suits you, we'll go and get some," I said while chuckling.
Apple Bloom and Applejack both let out a giggle as Apple Bloom gets up and I prepare my morning meditation.
"I'll be out soon," I say to a departing Apple Bloom.
During my meditation I sense a major disturbance in the energy of Equestria, I can't quite pinpoint it but it's definitely coming from the Everfree Forest, I'll need to ask Twilight about that later.
I head downstairs to find a platter of pancakes and glasses of orange juice for all. Granny Smith, Big Mac, and Apple Bloom had just taken their seats.
"Grab a seat Mex, just serving up the last pancake and I'll be joining ya." Applejack said.
"Alright, it looks and smells very good Applejack," I say.
"Well thank ya kindly Mex." Applejack replied.
Applejack sat down and we all dug into our pancakes.
"What's the plan today Apple Bloom? I mean, after my magic lesson with Twilight and after my test with Miss Cherilee." I say.
"Well, I was thinking of suggesting to the girls that we could try a whole bunch of new things today!" Apple Bloom replied.
"What'd you have in mind?" I say before taking a mouthful of pancake.
"Well, I was thinking of three activities today, Arts and Crafts, Tight Rope Walking, and finally, Story Telling!" Apple Bloom said with glee.
"Oh wow! That sounds great! Are we meeting Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo at the normal time?" I say.
"Well, I will be, but you'll be halfway through your lesson with Twilight at that point, come and join us after you're done, okay?" Apple Bloom replied with a big smile.
"Right!" I reply with enthusiasm.
I turn to Applejack.
"Oh wait! Did you need any help on the farm today Applejack and Big Mac?" I ask.
"Nope, harvest is over now so it's just standard chores and then I hit the market with the produce." Applejack replies.
"Ooh, the market! That sounds fun! So much to do today! I'd better go make a small withdrawal from my funds to have a bit of pocket change for the day." I say.
"Alright, you should only need about 50 bits for pocket change." Applejack said.
"Alright, 50 bits it is!" I say as I get up from the table as we'd all finished our breakfast.
I run upstairs to the chest and grab 100 bits from the chest and put them in two smaller bags. I run back downstairs as Apple Bloom is about to leave.
"Did ya get yer coins?" Apple Bloom asks.
"Yup! Right here!" I say as I smirk at Apple Bloom.
"What's the smirk for Mex?" Applejack asks.
"Well, I got the coin, for both of us," I reply.
"Huh?" Apple Bloom and Applejack said together.
"50 for me and 50 for Apple Bloom of course," I say.
"Now wait a min-" Apple Bloom started before I cut her off.
"Think fast!" I say as I lob the little coin pouch up at her hoof and she. by instinct, catches it.
"Love you guys, see ya later!" I say and gallop away towards the schoolhouse for my test.
"Ooooh! That Mex!" Apple Bloom said.
"Don't worry sis, I'll go put it back before I head out."
"Don't worry about it Apple Bloom, if he went to the extent of tricking you, then you can accept it this one-time" Applejack said with a chuckle.
"Ooooh! That Mex! I'll get him back soon!" Apple Bloom said with a chuckle as she runs off towards the clubhouse.
"I like Mex, he has a good soul," Granny said.
"Eeyup." Big Mac said.
"I meant it though! He won't be tricking us no more!" Applejack said with a giggle, followed by the others chuckling as well.
I arrive at the schoolhouse with a few minutes to spare and walk inside.
"Miss Cherilee?" I ask as I step inside.
"Oh Mex! Just in time, come on in and have a seat." Miss Cherilee said.
I walk up to a desk near the front and plop down on it, Miss Cherilee brings over a piece of paper and a pencil and places them on my desk.
"Okay Mex, if you could write numbers one to five down the page, these will serve as your answers to each question." Miss Cherilee said.
"Uh," I say while looking hesitant.
"What's wrong?" Miss Cherilee replies.
"It's just, I don't have much... or any experience writing as a pony."
Miss Cherilee smiles and says.
"That's okay, just do your best, but I'll make note of that so we can help you get back on track. You can use your magic if it's easier."
"Okay, I'll do my best," I say as I grip the pencil in my magic and get ready to write.
"Okay, question one." Miss Cherilee said.
"What is the name of the currency we use in Equestria?"
I write "bits" for my answer.
"Question two, who is the current ruler of Equestria?" Miss Cherilee asks.
I write "Princess Celestia" as my answer.
"Question three, what is sixteen plus nine?" Miss Cherilee asks.
I write "25" as my answer.
"Question four, please spell "Education," Miss Cherilee said.
I write "E-d-u-c-a-t-i-o-n" as my answer.
"And finally, please describe as best as you can what a cutie mark is." Miss Cherilee says.
I think back to how the Crusaders and Twilight explained it and write.
"A cutie mark is a mark that shows a pony's talent, everypony will eventually receive one once they have learned what makes them special." And then look up to Miss Cherilee and smile.
"All done?" She asks me.
"Yup! I did my best!" I say with a smile.
"Wonderful! Let's have a look, shall we?" Miss Cherilee says.
Cherilee picks up my paper and begins reading.
"Good good." She says as she's reading.
"Okay, excellent! You appear to be at the same level, if not a bit higher, than our student's knowledge-wise, but your writing skills can be improved." She says with a chuckle, earning a laugh of agreement from me as well.
"You will be a wonderful fit for our class." Miss Cherilee says while smiling.
"Yes! All I need now is to clear Twilights magic training and I can attend?" I say while bouncing on the spot.
Miss Cherilee lets out a hearty chuckle.
"Yes of course! We look forward to having you and hearing about life where you're from!" Miss Cherilee replies.
I freeze on the spot and lightly cringe.
"Uh, that's probably not a good idea Miss Cherilee," I say.
"Oh?" Miss Cherilee asks.
"Yeah... most of my tales involve open warfare and death and destruction et cetera. But there are a few things I could share I suppose. Inside jokes that came about during our missions", I say with a smile.
Miss Cherilee chuckles.
"I look forward to those. As for the rest of those experiences, I'm sure it will be good to get all of those awful memories off your chest." Miss Cherilee said with a hoof on my shoulder.
"Thank you, Miss Cherilee" I reply with a smile.
"My pleasure, now, off you go to Twilight's for your lesson there," Cherilee says.
"Okay, I'll see you soon Miss Cherilee!" I say as I stand up and begin to leave.
"Yes, you will!" Cherilee calls back with a giggle.
I leave the schoolhouse with a big smile on my face, knowing that my spot in the class was secured. I note that I have about an hour left before my lesson with Twilight, maybe a quick stop by Sugarcube Corner for a snack is in order.
I walk towards Sugarcube Corner through the town center, getting friendly waves and hellos from locals, it truly feels like home now. Well, what a home should be, back at the tower, locals were all suffering from PTSD about the recent Cabal invasion to be super friendly, I always wanted to help them somehow, but I died before I could come up with a way to.
Out of nowhere, I hear a familiar voice say.
"See daddy? There's the new kid that's coming to our school, I told you he was an alicorn!" The voice said.
I turn around to see Diamond Tiara standing next to a stallion who is dressed in what looks to be the beginning of a suit and tie, white-collar, and the tie having a money symbol on it.
"Ahh, so you're the impossible colt I've heard about, Diamond-" He stops himself when he does indeed notice that I am an alicorn, wings and horn and all.
"Wha- what? How?!" The stallion says.
"See daddy? I told you!" Diamond says.
"Oh, where are my manners, my apologies your highness, my name is Filthy Rich, Diamond Tiara's father and owner of Rich's Barnyard Bargains." He says as he performs an official bow.
"Diamond! Where are your manners?" Rich says as he motions for her to also bow. She does.
I look at them both and say.
"Mister Filthy, was it? Or do you prefer Mister Rich?" I ask.
"Oh, Mister Rich, please." He replies.
I chuckle softly and say.
"Yeah, I figured it would be, listen, I may be an alicorn, but I am not royalty, I understand you have to earn that title, and I have not," I say politely.
"Please, call me Mex," I add on.
"Oh, of course, ahem, may I ask, how-" he says before I cut him off.
"How am I an alicorn?" I finish his sentence.
"Yes, I have never heard of an alicorn colt before, I'm sure the scholars from Canterlot would be dying to question and study you," Rich says.
"I don't have an answer for that I'm afraid, I'm sure I'll be writing a book one day about my life's story, maybe I'll sign a copy for you if you're interested, I must be going now," I say while smiling and politely nodding my head and walk away.
"Goodbye! Hope to see you around my store!" Rich calls out after me.
"What a nice colt." I faintly hear him say.
I smile and think to myself.
"How is he kind and respectful but Diamond turned out like that?"
I laugh and head inside Sugarcube Corner.
"Hi Pinkie!" I say as I enter the store.
"Oh hi, Mex! How ya been? What can I get cha?" Pinkie Replies.
"Uh, Crusader usual please," I say.
"No problem! One carrot cupcake with sprinkles and a chocolate milkshake coming up!" Pinkie replies.
I take a seat at the table the Crusaders usually sit at and wait for my order. Not long after, I hear the bell ring and three very familiar giggling ponies come walking in.
"So, when did you say Mex was joining us at the clubhouse, Apple Bloom?" Sweetie Belle said.
"As soon as he is done with his magic lesson with Twilight, in about two hours." Apple Bloom replies.
"While we wait, let's get some grub!" Scootaloo said.
"Hey Pinkie! Crusader usual please!" Apple Bloom said.
"You guys too? Three more carrot cupcakes with sprinkles and three more chocolate milkshakes coming up! I'll bring them out with Mex's" Pinkie replies.
"Mex? He's here?" Sweetie Belle says as they turn to look at their regular table.
"Mex! What're you doin here?" Scootaloo said.
"Hey girls! I had some time before my lesson with Twilight, so I thought I'd stop by for a snack." I say.
"Oh cool! We can snack together!" Apple Bloom said.
The girls come over to the table and sit down just as Pinkie brings out our order.
"So, what have you guys been doing today?" I ask.
"Well-" Apple Bloom said as she caught me up on the day's activities so far.
"Wow, you guys went snorkeling? That sounds fun!" I say.
"Yeah, too much water in my ears," Scootaloo said.
"Rarity went crazy when she saw how wrinkled my hooves got." Sweetie Belle said. We all share a laugh.
"How did your school entry test go?" Apple Bloom asked.
I finish my bite of cupcake before responding.
"Great! I think I aced it! If you can ace that test. I'm in!"
"Yeah! Alright!" All three girls said together.
"Pinkie? Can we get four double choc milkshakes please?" Sweetie Belle said.
"Ooooh! That's your celebrating drink! What are you celebrating?" Pinkie said from the counter.
"Mex aced his entrance test!" Sweetie Belle said.
"Woo-hoo! Congratulations Mex!" Pinkie said while throwing hoof fulls of confetti she got out of seemingly nowhere behind her mane.
"Thank you everypony! Now I just need to ace Twilights magic lessons." I reply.
"You've got that in the bag!" Scootaloo said.
"Yeah! We believe in you!" Sweetie Belle said.
"Thanks, I truly mean it, thank you all!" I say and hug the nearest pony to me who happens to be Scootaloo.
"Order up!" Pinkie said as she plops four gorgeous-looking milkshakes in front of all of us.
"Let's dig in Crusaders!" Apple Bloom said.
"Alright!" We all said together.
After finishing our milkshakes, I took notice of the time, I had ten minutes to get to Twilights castle!
"Oh! I gotta get going girls! My lesson starts in ten minutes" I say.
"We should be going soon as well! We'll stay for a bit longer and get to the clubhouse where we'll wait for ya before we do some crusading!" Apple Bloom said.
"Alright! I look forward to it! Bye!" I say and head over to Pinkie.
I get close to Pinkie and half-whisper.
"This is for everything, keep the change." And give her fifty bits and then a wink.
Pinkie glances over to the Crusaders standing up and winks back to me and gives me a little smooch on the head.
"Thanks, Mex, I really appreciate it," Pinkie says.
I start to walk away and the girls approach Pinkie.
"How much we owe ya there Pinkie?" Apple Bloom says.
"Nothing! Mex just covered your whole bill!" Pinkie says with a smile.
I look over as I'm leaving and see Apple Bloom turn to me. I smile and salute with my hoof and run away, behind me I hear an echoing.
"Meeeeeeeex!"
Still giggling like a mad man over the fast one I pulled on Apple Bloom, I approach Twilight's castle and knock on the doors.
Spike answers the door and invites me in to wait for Twilight.
"Twilight! Mex is here for his lesson!" Spike calls out.
Twilight and her friends minus Pinkie come out of the throne room.
"Oh, hello darling! How was your day today?" Rarity asked.
"It was great! I think I aced the test from Miss Cherilee, I'm in!" I said excitedly.
"That's great! Well done Mex!" Came from Twilight and congratulations from the others as well.
"Plus..." I retell how I pulled a fast one on Apple Bloom at Sugarcube Corner.
Applejack chuckles and says.
"You know, yer really askin for it young fella, you'll get an ear full from Apple Bloom pretty soon"
"Pretty sly though! Nice one Mex!" Rainbow Dash said and gave me a high hoof.
"I think the Flim Flam brothers could learn a thing or two from you in slickness." Applejack said, triggering a wave of laughter from all of us.
'Alright, we'll get out of your mane so you can get on with your magic lesson." Said Fluttershy.
"Bye everypony!" I say and wave to them as they leave.
After they are all gone, Twilight turns to me and says.
"Alright Mex, are you ready for your lesson?"
"Uh-huh! I'm ready!" I say.
At this moment, there's a knock on the door and Spike runs off to answer it.
"Okay, today, we'll be focusing on control of magic, we accomplish this by first having you understand just how much magic you have at your disposal," Twilight says.
"Hello Twilight, and Mex. It's great to see you again." A familiar voice says.
I turn around and see Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, and Princess Cadance standing there.
"Princesses! What are you doing here? I mean, not that I mind at all but." Twilight said, excited to see everypony.
"If it's alright with you and Mex, we'd like to sit and watch his first lesson," Princess Cadance said.
"Of- of course! Is that okay with you Mex?" Twilight said.
"Yeah, for sure, but... why? If you don't mind me asking that is" I reply.
"This is the first time any of us have seen alicorn magic performed by a colt, we're all very interested to see the results." Princess Luna said.
"Oh, alright," I say.
"Just continue your lesson like we're not here at all." Princess Celestia says.
"O-okay," Twilight says clearly nervous.
Twilight sets up a testing device that measures magic potential.
"I'd like you to levitate this device as high as you can Mex," Twilight said.
"Okay, here I go," I say a bit confused, and begin to levitate the device.
The other end of the device is a little control pad that must have an output that Twilight and the others can read.
I can hear a high-pitched whining coming from the device and I can see the shocked expressions from the group.
"Whoa!" Said Twilight.
The others look at each other with bewilderment.
"I can go higher, hold on," I say.
I push more magic through my horn and levitate the device to the limit of my magic. The device Twilight is holding starts to go crazy and begins to smoke.
"Oh my gosh!" Princess Cadance says with her hoof over her mouth.
"This- this is unbelievable!" Princess Luna says.
For some reason, I think I'm doing something wrong so I bring the device down and release my grip.
"I-I'm sorry, did I do something wrong?" I ask concerned.
"No not at all Mex! Your raw magic is roughly equal to all four of us together! It shouldn't be possible!" Twilight says.
"Oh, could the device be getting confused because of the mixture of my light and magic?" I ask.
"The Light apparently magnifies the power of magic, so it could be getting a false reading?" I add.
"There's nothing false about those readings Mex, your Light may boost your magic but it's still your magic!" Twilight said.
"Twilight, if I may? Mex, these readings are incredible! Would you mind repeating this test in a few days for some scholars from the Crystal Empire?" Princess Cadance asks.
I was about to respond when there was a flash of light and Discord appeared.
"What was that?!" Discord says as he appears.
"That was Mex's magic capability test," Twilight says.
"What?! That was a simple capability test?!" Discord said bewildered.
Discord turns to me.
"My my! You have magic that could one day be on par with my own! How would you feel about one day taking over as the Spirit of Chaos?" Discord said.
"Discord!" Twilight said.
"That is not happening Discord." Princess Celestia says.
"Well, it's just a thought!" Discord replies and turns to me and whispers.
"Think about it okay?" Discord said before winking and vanishing.
I chuckle to myself and decide to have a bit of fun and say.
"Hey, do you think I could do it? Be the new Discord one day?"
The princesses gasp.
"Absolutely not mister!" Twilight said.
Princess Celestia giggled behind her hoof, clearly catching on to my joke.
"Anyway, now I have an idea on just how much magic you have to contain, we can move on," Twilight said.
Twilight was about to continue when I sense that same energy that I felt this morning during my meditation. Dark, corrupting energy.
I don't resist it this time and focus on it, instantly I open my eyes and they flash white. I am given a vision of a kind of tear in the floor somewhere in the Everfree forest. Pouring out of it is a very familiar black and white energy.

I am very sorry for being away for a while, wasn't feeling very good but now that I've recovered, I'm back to writing! I hope you enjoy the latest entry to Mex's story.
