My New Life in Equestria.
Chapter 8:
"No!" I scream out, shocking the princesses.
"No no no!" I scream even louder.
"Mex? What's wrong?" Twilight asks.
"The Taken! They're here!" I reply in a panic.
"The... Taken?" Princess Cadance asked while stepping forward.
"What are the Taken?" Princess Celestia asked.
"The Taken were one of the most dangerous enemies I faced as a guardian, they cross dimensions corrupting anything they touch, I'm sorry Princesses but I must investigate, please excuse me," I say.
I take off at full speed towards where my senses were directing me.
"Mex, wait! It could be dangerous!" Twilight shouted after me.
But it was too late, I was out of earshot. I cannot allow The Taken to breach into this world, I will slaughter them all before I allow that to happen. The thoughts of what could happen if they invaded drove me to run faster than I have ever run before.
I reach the edge of the forest when the six older ponies catch up to me.
"Whoa there kid! Where are you going in a hurry?" Rainbow Dash asked after stopping me in my path by grabbing my tail with her teeth.
"I can't talk! Big danger!"
"Okay slow down, what's going on darling?" Rarity asked.
"The Taken! They are interdimensional hostile entities that chase the Light, they must have been drawn here because of me!" I say in a panic.
"I have to stop them!" I say as I take off running into the forest.
"Hang on there Mex! These critters sound like they're dangerous." Applejack said.
"Yes! They are! If I don't stop them now, they could invade all of Equestria within a few days!" I shout.
All six of the ponys gasp in shock.
"See? That's why I have to-" I say before I cut myself off as I see a taken thrall walking out of the forest.
"No! No no no!" I shout out, causing the girls to turn around and see it.
They all gasp in shock again as I push myself past them and draw magic and light into my horn and form a dawn blade once again hovering above my horn, a distinct metallic "shing" is heard. I jump forward as the thrall seems to notice me.
"Ha!" I grunt as I fling a burning blade towards the thrall, the blade strikes and incinerates it, a distorted howl is heard as it turns to ashes.
"What was that?!" Pinkie Pie says.
"A Taken thrall, they're already here! Luckily, I don't think many of them know a doorway is open, I need to destroy it now!" I yell as I run into the forest.
"Mex! Wait!" Twilight yells out after me.
"No more waiting! Come with me if you have to!" I call back.
I am very close to the area my vision showed me, I can feel the energy getting more and more distorted when I spot it. A Taken rip on the floor of the forest.
The girls were right behind me as I was running through the forest, they come to a stop right next to me.
"Whoa, w-what is that?" Fluttershy said.
"A Taken Rip, a hole the Taken use to cross dimensions, stand back, I'm going to destroy it but these things take a lot of power to destroy," I say.
The ponies back up as I concentrate. At this point, the Princesses have met with Twilight again.
"Princesses!" Twilight said as she bowed.
"What's going on Twilight?" Princess Celestia asked.
I push my magic and Light together at the tip of my horn and remember what it felt like to create a Nova Bomb. Concentrate the light, the light collapses into a single point, and then direct the bomb. Above my horn a giant purple ball forms and I release it.
"Ahh!" I shout as I launch the Magic enhanced Nova Bomb.
The Nova Bomb impacts the rip directly and explodes. A thunderous explosion rings out, shaking the earth.
The shock wave dissipates, leaving behind traces of void energy seeping up from the ground to the sky.
"Whoa." Rainbow Dash gasped.
"Incredible" Princess Luna says.
"This is the power of The Light?" Princess Luna adds.
"No," I say.
"This is The Light infused with alicorn magic," I add.
I collapse to one knee exhausted once again.
"Mex!" Applejack says as she runs over to me.
"I really wish you'd be careful hon." She adds.
"I'm sorry Applejack, I had to make sure that-" I cut myself off as I notice the tear is untouched.
"No! What?!" I shout out.
The others seem to notice as well.
As they were about to speak, another thrall crawls out of the tear and rushes towards me. I grunt as I stand up and nudge Applejack off me. I duck my head to escape its claws and step back. The other ponies take an aggressive stance.
"What are you?! What do you want on my land?!" Princess Celestia says.
The thrall closes the distance and swipes again, I step backward and buck it in the chest area, it goes flying back a few meters but does not die. I form another dawn blade and slash it in half, incinerating it again.
"I don't understand why the tear is still here, but this should slow it down at least for a while," I say as I leap into the air and unfurl my wings.
"Brace yourselves yall!" Applejack shouts out.
The ponies brace themselves as they watch me fly into the air.
A dark blue beam fires out of my horn and incases the tear in a thick layer of stasis.
I am gasping for air and panting as I have just used the last of my energy, I am still awake but cannot move much.
"Wha-what was that?" Twilight asks in shock.
"That was stasis! The same power he used on that giant timber wolf Twilight." Applejack said.
"That should keep them at bay for now, but it won't last forever, I need to come up with a way to close that tear for good," I say panting between words.
"No Mex, we need to come up with a way," Fluttershy says.
"I- I don't know-" I say before getting cut off.
"You have spent most of your time alone before, but now, you have friends to help you," Twilight says.
"And don't you forget it kiddo!" Rainbow Dash says.
I smile as a tear drops down my face.
"Thank you, thank all of you," I say.
We all gather for a group hug when Princess Celestia approaches.
"I will post a guard here to keep an eye on this rift, they will report to myself and Twilight if anything changes," Celestia says.
"I will have to come by every now and then to reset the stasis, or it will fail and The Taken will return," I say to Princess Celestia.
Princess Luna approaches.
"Mex? Would you mind giving a briefing of The Taken to the guard captain in the event something does happen?" Luna says.
"Of course, they could come by the farm if that's okay with Applejack or I could meet them at Twilight's Castle?" I reply.
Applejack nods.
"It's okay with me," Applejack says.
"I will have the captain come by the farm so you may rest after this ordeal," Luna says.
"It's okay, I'm feeling better, plus I still need to go meet the Crusaders! Bye everypony!" I say as I run off to the clubhouse.
"So full of energy kids, aren't they?" Princess Cadance says.
The ponies share a laugh as they walk away.
I arrive at the clubhouse and climb the ramp to the door and walk in.
"Hey girls! I'm here, what'd I miss-" I'm cut off by Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle.
"Mex! What happened?! We heard a giant explosion and... why are you dirty?! Are you hurt?!" Apple Bloom said.
Sweetie Belle started checking me for injuries.
"Whoa hey hey, I'm fine! I caused that explosion trying to destroy-" I was cut off again.
"You caused that explosion?!" They all said at once.
"Yes, see what happened was-" I said.
I caught them up on what was happening.
"Wow, so you did the freezing thing again? Like you did to that Timber Wolf?" Apple Bloom said.
"Yup," I said.
"And it's over now? We're safe again?" Sweetie Belle asked.
"Unfortunately not," I say.
"The stasis will keep them at bay for now but, I still need to come up with a way to seal the tear for good," I add.
"But, anyway! Let's do some crusading! What have we got on the list today Apple Bloom?" I say.
"Oh, uh, right! We've got Arts and Crafts, Tight Rope Walking, and Story Telling!" Apple Bloom says.
"Alright! Let's start with Arts and Crafts!" I say.
"Yeah!" The girls say together.
It's late into the evening and after three more unsuccessful attempts to obtain our cutie marks, we all left for home, tomorrow was a school day so I would be by myself for the day until they finished.
"What are ya gonna do while I'm at school tomorrow Mex?" Apple Bloom asked.
"I'm not sure, but I doubt Applejack will let me just wander around but it should still be fun," I say.
"I might do some more practice with magic and flying," I say.
Apple Bloom was about to respond when we reach home and notice a pony dressed in official attire with golden plated armour standing and talking with Applejack.
"Ah, here they come now, hello you two." Applejack said.
"Hey Applejack!" We both said together.
"Mex, this is Spearhead, the Captain looking after the tear in the forest." Applejack said.
"Ah, yes, you wanted a briefing about the Taken right?" I say.
"Yes, we need to know what we're looking out for so I can arrange preparation for a worst-case scenario." Spearhead said.
"Ok, no problem," I say and turn to Apple Bloom.
"I'll be inside soon, ok? See you there." I say.
"Alright, see you in a bit!" Apple Bloom said and walked inside.
"Ok, here is everything I know about The Taken," I say.
After a twenty-minute discussion and briefing, I tell Spearhead everything I know about the Taken, what to look out for, their weaknesses et cetera.
"And make sure to keep an eye out for cracks in the stasis crystals, if that happens, come and retrieve me immediately or set off those fireworks you told me about," I say.
"We will, thank you for this extremely valuable information, sir, I will return to the camp and brief all of the guards I have under my command, good evening, sir." Spearhead said.
"Call me Mex, I'm not military anymore you know," I say with a smile.
"R-right, good night, Mex." Spearhead said with a salute and walked back down the road towards the forest.
I walk inside and join Apple Bloom at the table.
"So, what're doin tomorrow Mex?" Granny Smith said.
"I'm not sure, probably some more training and practice, I wanna be able to join Apple Bloom and the girls at the school as soon as possible" I reply.
"You could join me at the market tomorrow if you'd like." Applejack said.
"Oh yeah! That sounds like fun Applejack, I'll join you." I say.
"Great! We get up at 5:30, see ya in the mornin." Applejack said.
The other Apples start giggling.
"Great! See you then!" I say, queuing the Apples faces of confusion.
"I got up at 3:30 for pretty much every mission I ever carried out as a guardian," I say with a cracked smile.
The Apples burst out laughing when Granny said.
"Sounds like yer perfect fer farm life young'un."
We all share a laugh before I turn to Apple Bloom.
"Oh, hey Apple Bloom! Did ya need 50 more bits for tomorrow? I'll add them to your pouch before I leave tomorrow morning." I say with a slight chuckle in my voice.
"Oh yeah! You and I need to have a chat mister!" Apple Bloom said while pointing a hoof at me with a fake angry face on.
"Uh oh, you've done it now Mex." Applejack said with a chuckle.
"I feel sorry fer him honestly." Granny Smith said.
"Eeyup." Big Mac said.
The older Apples stood and left to their rooms.
"Now listen here you." Apple Bloom said.
"If you do that again, I'll-" Apple Bloom began but was cut off by me.
"Uh, goodnight Apple Bloom!" I say before vanishing in purple light.
I appear on my bed and giggle my head off. Downstairs, Apple Bloom's voice booms.
"Mex! Come back here!"
It's early morning, the sun isn't even out yet, I finish my meditation and head downstairs to meet with Applejack. I place 50 bits in Apple Bloom's saddlebag and chuckle to myself and then check the clock and see it's 4:50. Perfect!
I pour myself a glass of juice and wait for Applejack to show me what to do.
Only a few minutes pass when I hear hoof steps coming down the stairs and into the kitchen.
"Good mornin Applejack," I say.
Applejack gets a little startled before smirking and saying.
"Oh wow, you weren't kidding, you really can get up this early."
"Uh-huh, I've been up since 4:30, meditation and all," I reply.
"Ah, right." Applejack says as she pours herself a coffee.
"Oh wow, is that... coffee?" I say looking at her mug.
"Uh-huh." Applejack says.
"Wow, I haven't, I haven't smelled coffee in 20 years, it was rare even back then but, our soil lost the ability to grow it," I say.
"Would you mind if I have a cup?" I ask.
"Oh, uh, sure, but I don't want you hopped up on caffeine causing mischief, ya hear?" Applejack says.
"Uh-huh, causing mischief, sure," I say as I pour a cup and smell deeply at the cup.
Applejack playfully snorts and smiles.
I take a sip and look at Applejack.
"So, what's the plan for today?" I ask.
"Well, after we have our coffee, we go out to the storeroom and load up the wagon with apples and other things and take em to the market to sell when it opens at seven." Applejack replies.
"Sounds good, I've got my magic lesson with Twilight at 9, and then I'll be visiting the Taken tear to refreeze it and then I'll be free to come back, when do you close the stall?" I ask.
"I close when the market does, that's at five." Applejack says.
"Alright, we'll see how I go for the first two hours and see if I come back or go entertain myself until the girls get out of school," I say.
"That sounds like a fine plan Mex, let's get started." Applejack said as she rinses her cup in the sink. I follow suit and do the same. We head outside and load the cart.
On the way to the market, I tell Applejack a funny story about Kai and Demi.
"So, the three of us were queuing up for a Crucible match, when one of the feathers on Demi's cloak got under Kai's nose, he sneezed so hard that the ground he was standing on got charged with Arc light for hours afterward," I say.
"The joke was, every time we got in trouble, we could just tickle Kai's nose with a feather and his sneeze would save us from any threat," I say and burst out with laughter.
Applejack laughs hard as well before stopping.
"Wait, what's the Crucible? I've heard ya say it a couple of times now," she said.
"Oh, uh, The Crucible is a guardian versus guardian competition founded by the titan named Shaxx," I say.
"Shaxx came up with the idea as a way to "Sharpen our light to use against our foes," it's turned out to be the most effective way to train newly raised guardians." I continue.
"Yer pitted against each other? For training?" Applejack says clearly shocked.
"Yep, since we could be resurrected, we would fight to the death in order to sharpen our skills," I say.
Applejack stared at me before saying.
"Wow, the situation must've been pretty bad to resort to that." Applejack said while giving me a sympathetic look.
"It was, if we didn't train then we would lose new guardians on their very first mission sometimes," I say.
"I understand, I think." Applejack said.
"It wasn't all bad, it was turned into a bit of a sport for the non-guardian citizens to watch and cheer on, thus raising their spirits, plus we got rewarded with new equipment if we did well," I say.
"In fact, the weapon I used in the dream world against Pholmo, I got from a special event in The Crucible called the iron Banner, I nicknamed it The Shining Sphere, in honour of the smiles we got from all the kids as we exited the arena," I say.
Applejack smiles and says.
"Sounds like you made a lot of people happy in your time, and had a lot of support from the public."
I smile and nod as we arrive at the market.
We arrive at the market and head over to Applejack's spot only to find two stallions already setting up a stall, they both look pretty much identical with a pale greyish olive coat with red and white stripes as their mane and tail.
I look over to Applejack who does not look happy. She marches over to them as I slowly follow behind her.
"What are you two doing at my spot?" She says when she reaches the stallions.
"Ah Applejack, you did turn up after all." One of them says.
"We thought you weren't turning up to market today, so we rented your spot for the day." The other one said.
"Wha- what?! What made you think I wouldn't turn up today?" Applejack said angrily.
"Well, you sent the mayor a letter saying you couldn't make it today, so she lent us your spot to us for today, you can't kick us out because it's our spot today." the first one said.
"And look at that, there's no more space in the market for your apples." The other one said.
"I-I never sent a letter to the mayor, don't bother setting up you two, I'll be back with answers." Applejack said with a stomp and came back to the cart.
"Applejack? Is everything okay?" I ask.
"Those Flim Flam brothers always pull their schemes and get under ma skin." She replied.
Applejack told me what had happened and asked me to stay with the cart as she ran off to find the mayor.
After Applejack ran off to find the mayor in time, I walk over to the brothers while being not so pleased myself, I decided to just ask them to move because of the clear mistake.
"Hey fellas, there's clearly been a mistake with the letter, would you mind moving if I refund your fee on the spot?" I say.
The brothers notice my apron with the Sweet Apple Acres logo on it and smirk at me.
"No thanks little colt, we have this spot fair and square and-" They stop themselves when they realise, I'm an alicorn.
"U- uh, what? Your majesty!" The brother said as he bowed.
"No, no, don't do that, I'm no royalty, just please move your stuff," I say in anger because of the constantly mistaken identity of being a prince and these guys' obvious scheme to screw over Applejack.
My anger causes a magical flare in my eyes and that frightens the brother into quickly getting their brother, packing up their cart, and apologising before leaving.
I try my best to set up the cart but having not done it before I have no idea what I'm really doing. Applejack comes back to the cart.
"They can't do anything because the brothers paid for the spot and they refunded part of my yearly contract for the spot, they said the letter had my signature on it so they-" Applejack notices I'm attempting to set up and stops talking for a moment.
"Hey, where are the brothers?" She said looking around.
"They decided it would be best to return the spot to you for the day, so they left," I said with an innocent smile.
Applejack looks at me with a cocked head and a raised eyebrow.
"What? I only roughed them up a little bit." I said while emphasising the "little".
Applejack intensifies her glare and the height of the eyebrow.
"I'm joking, I asked them to move because of the clear mistake with the letter and they just left, I tried to tell them I wasn't a prince but I don't think they listened and thought it was an order," I said which relaxed Applejack and she smiled.
She laughed in her classic laugh that I've come accustomed to now and said.
"You know, maybe I should get your help with dealing with the Flim Flam brothers from now on, they seem to be scared of you."
I laughed with her as we set up the stall just in time for opening.
A few hours into selling apples and I get the hang of it; I notice the time and call out to Applejack.
"Hey Applejack! I gotta get going to my lesson with Twilight, I'll come back round at some point."
"No worries hon, see you later!" She replies.
I take off my apron and head off to Twilight's castle excited about my lesson.
Spike answers the door and welcomes me in as usual. We sit down in the library and Spike heads off to make some snacks. Twilight comes in and greets me.
"Hello, Mex! Are you ready?" She says.
"Uh-huh!" I reply.
"Okay, today we'll work on a technique that I think will help you with controlling your magic," Twilight said.
"The first thing I want you to do is to close your eyes and focus on your magic, find where it is in you," Twilight said.
I close my eyes and begin to look inward; I find my magic but it's everywhere, every little crack and crevice is filled with it.
"Do you have it?" Twilight asks.
"Yes, I can feel it everywhere, every little inch of my body," I reply.
"Good, now, look outwards, do you see any on the outside?" Twilight said.
"Yes, it's like it's leaking out of me," I reply.
"Now, I want you to pull that magic back inside of you so that none of it is outside," Twilight said.
"Okay," I reply.
I focus on the magic on the outside and imagine it being drawn back into my body, I feel a small surge of magic as I open my eyes. My eyes flash white for a moment and I notice I am floating again. Twilight smiles and says.
"Well done Mex, very well done! I felt a surge in magic around you which means you did it correctly; doing this stops your magic from leaking out and causing harm to others."
"Does this mean I'm ready to join the others at school?!" I say excitedly.
"I'll allow you to attend school but only if you promise that we continue our lessons after school; I am comfortable that you won't accidentally injure somepony, but, if you experience another surge like in the forest you could hurt yourself," Twilight said as she hands me her clearance form so I can attend school.
"Woohoo! Yeah! I can go to school with the Crusaders! Woo hoo!" I shout as I hug Twilight and take off for the door.
"He didn't hear anything after you said he could go to school, did he?" Spike said.
"I don't think so, no," Twilight said while she and Spike giggle.
I check the time and see it's 9:45 am, an hour before I need to head to the forest to re-freeze the Taken. Time to head to Sugar Cube Corner!
I walk inside and up to the counter where Pinkie is manning the counter.
"Crusader Special please Pinkie, double choc time!" I say with a beaming smile plastered all over my face.
Pinkies ears flutter as she turns around and gasps.
"A double?! What are we celebrating?! Can I celebrate too?!" Pinkie says bouncing on the spot.
" Of course, you can, I'll tell you but, you can't tell anypony, I wanna tell em myself the next time I see em," I say.
"Sure! No problem! I'm great with secrets!" Pinkie replies as she's making up my order.
"I passed Twilights classes! I'm going to school tomorrow!" I yell and dance.
"Oh my gosh! Really?! Congratulations Mex! I'm so proud of you!" Pinkie says as she smooches my head and puts my order on the counter.
"This ones on me, enjoy!" Pinkie said as she bounces off.
Full of pride I take my seat at the Crusaders booth and enjoy my mini celebration. After I finish, I take the empty glass and plate back to the counter and set them on the counter along with 10 bits as a tip to Pinkie.
"Thanks, Pinkie! Amazing as always!" I call out as I leave before she can object to my tip.
"Bye Mex! Congrats again!" Pinkie replies.
"Thanks!" I call out as I head over to the forest to the Taken tear. I unfurl my wings and take off towards the tear.
"Whoa, that surge of magic from Twilights lesson still hasn't quite worn off yet, I seem to be flying really fast," I say out loud to myself. In the distance, I can see Rainbow Dash hanging out on a cloud and decide to have a little fun.
I fly fairly close to her and call out loudly.
"Hi Rainbow!"
She gets startled and looks around before seeing me giggling.
"M-Mex! You scared; I-I mean startled me." Rainbow said before quietly chuckling to herself.
"Oops... Sorry bout that... gotta go! bye Scaredy I mean Startled Pony!" I said in a playfully sarcastic tone before giggling and taking off.
"Ooh! Now you've done it kiddo!" Rainbow said in a playful tone and started chasing after me.
Weaving in and out of clouds, Rainbow Dash is on my tail nearly catching me, both of us are giggling like maniacs as she shouts playfully.
"Get back here kid! You're gonna pay for that!"
I giggle and laugh loudly and retort.
"Y'know, I'm surprised a startled pony could fly this high and not get startled again," I say while giggling uncontrollably.
"Oh, that is it! Now you're in for it!" Rainbow said with a massive smile on her face.
We ramp up the speed as we continue to zip around the skies. A memory flashes into my mind as I remember studying the process that ships use to engage a warp jump, the engines used the Light to help them open the FTL window.
As I for some reason remember this piece of information, I wonder if it's possible to use miniature FTL windows in Equestria, replacing the technical pieces on the ships, with magic.
Then I think about teleportation magic and how Twilight explained it to me, this entire thought took only a second and I feel my light welling up inside my body, my coat glows a brilliant white for a moment before a familiar window opened in front of me.
In an instant, I fly into it before appearing at the Taken tear in front of some royal guards that have their jaws on the floor.
"Mex? Is that you? What happened?!" I heard Spearhead call out.
"I-I dunno, I was flying with Rainbow Dash on my way here and-" I stop myself and look a little confused. I replied.
"And? What happened?" Spearhead said.
"Well, it looked like an FTL window, like from the starships I described to you before, but that's not possible, in order to create those windows, you need a lot of complicated equations and technology that do them for you," I say in a confused tone.
"What happened when I appeared here? From your perspective?" I ask.
"Well." Spearhead said.
"There was a huge bang and we saw some kind of hole in the air, then you flew out of it and landed on the ground." He said.
The guards around him nod their heads and murmur their agreement.
"Yep, that's an FTL window, amazing, I think my magic and my light made a way for warp windows to appear through magic instead of science," I say.
"That's gonna make getting round a whole lot easier." I chuckle, followed by the guards doing the same.
Rainbow Dash landed and called out to the guards in a panicked tone.
"Hello? I'm looking for Mex, has anypony seen-" She stops herself when she spots me and rushes over.
"Mex! There you are! What was that?! What happened?!" She said.
I tell Rainbow what happened and my theory.
"Remember when you were teaching me to fly, and Scootaloo asked how fast the ships were?" I said.
Rainbow nodded.
"Well, I think I just did it, I think I just flew at FTL speed," I said.
Rainbow Dash gasped and she looked shocked.
"W-What?! How?!" She said.
"I-I'm not sure exactly but, I think the Light helped, I'm gonna ask Twilight about it tomorrow," I reply.
Rainbow Dash nods and gasps before saying.
"Oh yeah! I still have to get you for making those comments kid!"
We both laugh as she ruffles up my mane with her hoof.
After re-freezing the Taken tear, I wave goodbye to the guards and leave with Rainbow Dash. As we fly back towards town I turn to Rainbow and say.
"I'm gonna try again, I think I've figured it out."
Rainbow turns to me and with the authority and voice to match of an older sister said.
"No Mex, we don't know enough about it, it's quite-" She was cut off when she realised my fur was glowing again, this time she grabbed my tail just before we were both whisked away into the FTL window.
"Whoa-a-a-a-a!" Rainbow said as we reappeared at Sweet Apple Acres and slowed down like a ship does as it prepares to approach a planet.
"Wow! That's the fastest I've ever flown before! Is that what it was like Mex?" Rainbow Dash said obviously excited about the speed and thrill.
"Yeah, pretty much, although I never did it myself, I was always in a ship, that was wild!" I replied.
"But seriously, you should go tell Twilight about this," Rainbow said.
"I will, I'll tell her about it after school tomorrow," I say smirking watching for her reaction.
"School? Oh my gosh! Did Twilight pass you?!" Rainbow Dash said in excitement.
"Mhm! I can't wait to tell the girls; do you think they'll be excited?" I say.
"Are you kidding?! Of course, they will be! Scootaloo's been talking about how much fun it'll be to have you in school." Rainbow said.
"Ooh! I can't wait Rainbow! I can finally learn about your world! I still feel like an outsider." I say.
"Well, you shouldn't! Equestria is your home now as much as it is ours!" Rainbow said while nuzzling my cheek.
"Aw thanks, Rainbow, I couldn't have been luckier when the Traveller sent me here and I met all of you; I can't thank you all enough," I say.
"It's been great getting to know you Mex, getting a new friend is always awesome!" Rainbow replies.
"You're right, I'm starting to realise that myself; anyway, I'd better get back to the market and help Applejack some more, cya Rainbow!" I say with a wave as I'm leaving.
I head back to the market and find Applejack finishing off a sale. I walk up and grab my apron.
"Hey Applejack! I'm back!" I say.
"Hey ya Mex! How'd you go?" Applejack said.
"Great! Twilight Signed off on me going to school tomorrow!" I say with glee.
"Really? That's great! Congratulations!" Applejack said while hugging me.
"Thanks! I'm so excited! I can't wait to tell the girls!" I say while returning the hug.
"Well, school lets out in half an hour, wanna help me at the stand while you wait?" Applejack said.
"Yeah sure! I can sell some apples to help the family!" I say.
Applejack was about to respond when a guard comes rushing up to the stand.
"Mex! Mex! Spearhead asked me to find you, shortly after you left the crystals started to crack!" the Guard said.
"What?!" I shouted.
I turn to Applejack.
"Gotta go Applejack!" I say as I take my apron off and begin running.
"Let's go!" I say as the guard follows me.
Five minutes later, the guard and I arrive at the camp.
"Mex! Thank Celestia you're here! The cracks have been getting bigger and bigger!" Spearhead said.
"Okay everypony, stand back while I try and refreeze it!" I say as I unfurl my wings and leap into the air.
I fire another stasis beam towards the tear, but it does nothing.
"No! Diminishing returns has already kicked in?!" I yell frustrated.
Another crack appears and the entire stasis crystal gives way and shatters.
"Spearhead! Ready your soldiers! The Taken are coming!"

Hey everypony! How's that huh? The Taken have breached the tear earlier than planned, what can Mex do to keep them at bay? He still hasn't figured out how to close it for good yet and the times up!
