Chapter 2

Arriving at the meeting location 3 minutes early, Bo found herself at the entrance of a hiking trail in a park.

A blue truck pulled in 30 seconds later. The blonde Angel got out of the truck and gave Bo a slight nod. Then she beckoned Bo to come closer to her.

"Walk with me," she demanded as she led the way into the hiking trail.

Briskly they walked along the trail, until they would see less and less joggers, bikers and dog walkers.

"So," Tamsin started as she slowed down and turned to Bo when they were alone deep in the woods, "what could the Princess of Hell possibly want from me?"

"You know who I am," Bo stared back, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

"Please," Tamsin returned a fake smile, "the King of Hell's reunion with his long lost daughter was the cover story of Heaven and Hell weekly digest for three months."

"Alright, then I guess we can skip the small talks and introductions. I'm looking for someone named Kyron, an artifact scavenger. I heard that you might know where to find him."

Tamsin shrugged. "I might know his whereabouts."

"Great, if you could tell me where I can find him, I'll pay top dollar," Bo offered.

Tamsin chuckled. "Calm you tits, you little sex demon. Even if I tell you where he is right now, you won't be able to just go and meet him."

"And why is that?"

"Because he's in a place where you are forbidden to enter on your own," Tamsin leaned in a little and told her slowly. The way she said the word "forbidden" tickled Bo playfully.

"A place I can't enter on my own…you mean, Heaven?"

The blonde gave her a nod. "If you want to meet him, you will have to hire me to escort you. If you want me to escort you, you will have to pay me a lot of coins."

"Why do I have to hire you?" Bo narrowed her eyes at Tamsin and teased, "I could hire another Angel, who's much nicer and hotter."

"Really? Where do you plan on finding this much nicer and hotter Angel, hmmm? On Craigslist?"

Bo rolled her eyes. "Fine, but you need to take me to him asap."

"Wow, you are really in a hurry, Princess," Tamsin tilted her head a little and stared at Bo, intrigued. "A bit too much desperation, don't you think?"

Bo was about to retort, but she was interrupted by a sudden bump into her butt. The moment she turned around, a rottweiler greeted her excitedly with hugs and licks.

Bo giggled as she rubbed the dog's head, then her belly. The dog rolled over and lay there, begging for more.

"I am so sorry. She's never been this friendly to strangers," the dog owner, embarrassed, explained in haste as he pulled on the leash. Then, he met Bo's eyes and her smile. He was struck numb for a brief moment. "Oh...hi, hi..." he stuttered as he smiled back at Bo.

Tamsin rolled her eyes and let out a sigh. "Yes she's probably the hottest chick you have met. No she does not want a boyfriend. Take your damn dog and leave us alone," she commanded.

The man did what he had been told. The dog whined at Bo all the way while leaving with him.

"Dogs usually don't like Ds," Tamsin commented.

"In case you haven't noticed, I'm very likable," Bo shrugged.

Tamsin glanced at her face, then moved her eyes down to her cleavage. "Somehow I doubt that," she teased.

Bo rolled her eyes. "So, are you gonna take me to Kyron or not?"

"Well, the earliest time you will be able to meet him is this Thursday," Tamsin told her.

"Why is that?"

"You see, the door to Heaven does not open whenever you wish. It only opens at certain times, for example, this Thursday. Are we clear?"

After getting a nod from Bo, she added, "200 gold for taking you to meet him, plus another 200 if the meeting actually ends well."

"What do you mean by 'if the meeting actually ends well?'"

"I assume that you want to meet him because you want something from him, whatever that something might be. If you get that something from him successfully, your meeting ends well."

"Okay," Bo nodded.

Tamsin paused briefly as she eyed the brunette. A mischievous smile appeared on her face, as she said, "I also need an item from your dad's office, something devil-ish."

"You mean like...a talisman or something?" Bo frowned.

"He got talismans there in his office? What kind?"

"I don't know…there is this gold one with emeralds, looking like a vomiting snake with arms. Then there is this wooden one covered in red paint, or blood-"

She stopped when she saw that amused smile blooming Tamsin's face.

"You are fucking with me gain, aren't you?" She shot Tamsin a cold stare.

"And you just figured it out?" Tamsin laughed. "Meet me here at 6am this Thursday. Bring 400 gold with you, plus however much you'd like to pay him for whatever you want from him."

"Anything else?"

"Yeah, bring some winter gear."

Bo frowned. "What for?"

"So you won't get your cute tits frozen in Heaven, sweetheart," Tamsin said as she gave Bo's revealing top a bold, lingering gaze. "6 am, Thursday, 400 gold, winter gear. Don't be late."

After she had returned to Hell, Bo met with her father first and updated him on the progress of her mission. Then, she went back to her Princess suite.

Bilith was there again, in her bed, purring, as if he had been behaving well and sleeping all this time. However, what betrayed him was the chocolate wrappers scattered all over the floor.

"Hey, you can't just budge in here, eat all my treats and trash my place," Bo grunted as she picked up all the wrappers and threw them away.

She sat down in her bed and flicked the feline's nose playfully. "Bad kitty."

Bilith hissed at her softly. "Gluttony is my sin. I can't help it."

"Gee, at least say that with maybe a shred of guilt, will ya? And maybe act with just a tintsy bit of self control. Lust is my sin, but you don't see me banging every hot person I encounter, do you?"

"Well, you kinda do, Bo. Besides, remember that human soul of yours? You have that to harness your desires. I don't have one."

"Next time at least bring your own snacks, okay? And clean up after you are done!" Bo flicked his nose again, earning an unhappy growl from him.

So what did your father ask you to do this time? Bilith switched to his telepathic voice.

"Why the brain talk all of a sudden?" Bo frowned.

Just go with it, Bo. Bilith demanded.

I can't tell you. It's supposed to be a secret.

Come on, Bo. You can tell me anything.

I really shouldn't! Anyway I'm just…I'm going to meet someone in Heaven and get something from him. That's all I can tell you.

In Heaven? Bilith's voiceless hiss came to Bo.

Yeah, someone will escort me in.

So you've got an Angel on your payroll.

Yes, a fallen one, actually. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm going to Heaven with her on Thursday. Any advice?

"Wear more clothes," Bilith purred with his normal voice.

"Yeah, she told me the same thing. Is Heaven really cold or something?"

"Oh yes, it is, to us anyway."

"Just how cold are we talking about?"

"For Demons? Ice age," Bilith said. "It's not really about the temperature. The energy of divinity penetrates your very demon core like icicles. "

"Gee, can you make it less erotic?" Bo rolled her eyes.

"You will see what I am talking about when you set foot in Silver City." Bilith yawned and closed his golden eyes.

Early Thursday morning, Bo went to the rendezvous point: the hiking trail in the park. She took Tamsin's (and Bilith's) advice, and put on a full set of winter gear: a long down jacket, a pair of fluffy winter boots, a cozy knitted hat, a cashmere scarf and a pair of gloves.

"Just as I thought you don't have a single outfit that doesn't show your…" Tamsin teased when she showed up, deliberately aiming her eyes between Bo's breasts.

Bo snorted. "Can we go to Heaven now? I am sweating into my pants. I can barely breathe."

"Who says you have to put them on right now? You could have packed them in a suitcase or something," Tamsin chuckled and headed into the trail.

After a couple of minutes, she glanced at Bo, who fell behind a little because she had worn too many clothes. Without Bo noticing, she took her cell phone out and quickly texted "with target now, heading to H."

"Come on, Princess," she called to Bo as she tucked her cell phone back into her pocket.

Immediately after she had entered Heaven's territory, Bo realized that Bilith wasn't joking. The coldness that rose from under her feet and clawed up along her limbs pierced her like icicles. It stayed inside her body and froze her soul, making every inch of her skin shiver.

She tried to remember how she had entered Heaven, but it was all...too fast. She remembered walking along the trail with Tamsin, and then stopping briefly in front of two tall pine trees. Those two trees stood there like a pair of sentinels.

They walked past them, and then she was in Heaven.

The entire place was indeed brighter. The blazing sun made it look like August, but to her it felt like January. Not just any January, January in the north pole.

It was also vast and empty. The only things she had encountered were quiet rivers and dense pine forests.

"Where are all the Angels?" She couldn't help but ask, her teeth chattering.

"In the City of Glory," Tamsin raised her chin and pointed at a shiny structure far, far away.

Bo was confused. "So we are not in Heaven yet?"

Tamsin shook her head. "You live in the City of Damned, right?" Seeing Bo raising her eyebrows a little, she added, "the castle that is surrounded by four rivers."

"Yeah, right, that's called the City of Damned. I just call it the castle," Bo replied.

"That's Heaven's version of City of Damned," Tamsin pointed at the shiny structure with her chin again. "And we are in Heaven's version of the land beyond the four rivers."

"Oh," Bo nodded again. "Sorry, new demon, not familiar with Heaven and Hell stuff at all."

"Riiiight, the long lost daughter who was raised by the humans," Tamsin drawled. "Come on, this way."

They trekked through patches of woods, and eventually came to a small, open area with several run down cabins.

The blonde checked each of them carefully, before she stopped in front of one of them. She tilted her head towards it slightly. "He's here."

With that she opened the door for Bo.

"Wow, we don't even have to knock?" Bo frowned as she walked in.

She gasped sharply when she set her eyes on the inside of the cabin. Outside it seemed to be a 700 square feet cottage, but inside it was a library with the style, and the size, of the Hogwats library.

Awed by the shelves of old, dusty books and the display cases full of artifacts, she wondered how all of them could possibly fit inside this tiny cabin.

Tamsin walked up to the front desk and rang the desk bell.

A few seconds later, a short man in a gray robe suddenly appeared behind the desk. He had bushy eyebrows and beard, and a very crooked nose.

"Tamsin!" He greeted her loudly, though there wasn't much of an excitement or warmth in his voice. Then, he turned to Bo. He eyed her cautiously, trying to figure her out.

"You brought me a…Demon?" He narrowed his eyes.

"I brought you a client." Tamsin corrected him.

Kyron shook his head slightly and mumbled something, before he turned to Bo again. "Name?"

"Do I have to give one?" Bo retorted, annoyed by his condescending tone.

"Oh it's a snarky one." Kyron said loudly.

"Kids, let's play nice and get this shit over with, so I can go do other things, okay?" Tamsin intervened. Then, she gave Bo a stare, telling her to move forward with Kyron.

"I want something that you have, a rubbing of some…ancient manuscript," Bo said as she took out the printed page that her father had given her. "This is…part of it, anyway."

Kyron cleared his throat as he glanced at Tamsin, then the page in Bo's hand.

Tamsin rolled her eyes and took the page from Bo. Before she handed it over to Kyron, though, she took a peek and paused.

"What's wrong?" Bo frowned.

"Oh, nothing," Tamsin shook her head and gave her a big, fake smile, before she handed it to Kyron.

Kyron studied the page, and then he nodded. "Yeah…I think I know what you are looking for. Just give me a moment."

He disappeared in thin air for a few minutes. Just as Bo started to wonder if he had run away, he reappeared with a roll of parchment paper in his hand.

"500 gold, and it's yours."

"That's fine, but at least let me take a look at it first."

"Of course." Kyron replied as he unrolled the parchment paper. He withdrew his hands and snarled at Bo's reaching hands. "Uhh uhh, no touching. You can only look."

"Fine," Bo sighed as she watched him place the parchment paper on the desk.

Carefully she compared the writing on it to the writings on her printed page. They seemed identical. The parchment had much more content, though, and some drawings. Everything seemed to fit his father's description.

"How do you…where is this thing from?"

"It was from an ancient manuscript, a stone tablet, all carvings, very old stuff. I made the rubbing myself."

Like I know where it should have come from. Bo thought as she gave him a nod. He rolled the parchment paper back and tied it up with a ribbon. Then, he sealed it with a spoonful of wax he had just melted in front of Bo. After stamping it with a scroll-shaped seal, he held it in his right hand firmly and reached his left hand out to Bo. "Payment, now," he demanded.

Bo took out her coin pouch and started to count coins. As she counted, Kyron's greedy eyes stuck on those flickers of gold like glue.

Just as Bo was about to hand over the payment, Tamsin put a hand on her wrist and stopped her.

The blonde used her other hand to grip Kyron's wrist. "I know you probably don't care about your reputation, because…it's already shit, but I do, old man. I don't appreciate you selling counterfeit to my client."

"What are you talking about, Tamsin? This is no counterfeit! Look at it! Look at the paper," Kyron argued as he struggled.

"Yeah, the paper. Where did you find it, hmmm? Did you dig it out from some old tomb, bleach it to erase its original content and then use it for rubbing? When did you exactly carve the mumbo jumbo and make the rubbing? Last week while drinking tequila?"

She took a whiff of the parchment and corrected herself, "sorry, gin."

"This is not mumbo jumbo!" Kyron protested. "It's the real deal! It's authentic, I swear."

"Authentic my ass, old man! I know exactly where the content was from, and there is no fucking way you could have ever gotten your greasy fingers on the real deal for a rubbing. Now tell me the truth! Where the hell did you get this?"

"Wait, wait, wait," Bo interrupted them. "So this thing is…fake?"

"As fake as the sun you see in Hell, sweetheart," Tamsin answered her. A little distracted, she loosened her grip on Kyron's wrist for a brief moment.

The old man quickly drew a pattern in the air with his free hand and chanted a short spell. In a puff of dust, he disappeared, and the entire library disappeared with him. Left behind was a trail of falling dust, the counterfeit scroll that he had dropped, and the two women standing in the middle of a tiny, abandoned cabin.

"What the hell just happened?!" Bo exclaimed.

"What just happened was that I saved your sorry little ass by not letting you pay for a counterfeit he forged like last week."

"But-my father…the page he gave me looked exactly like what was on that parchment paper. How are you so sure that it was a fake?"

"A, it smelled like gin, and B, because he wouldn't have had the chance to touch the real thing. The real thing had been destroyed a long, long time ago."

"What might this real thing be?"

Tamsin let out a sigh. Instead of answering Bo's question, she picked up the scroll Kyron had just dropped and broke the wax seal. As she took a closer look at the writings on the parchment paper, she pondered.

"You found something on there, Angel?" Bo asked impatiently.

"You know, this may be fake, but the content on it is actually…accurate."

"What do you mean?" Bo frowned.

"The writings on this parchment paper are actually from…that thing that had been destroyed a long, long time ago," Tamsin explained. "Strange, isn't it?"

Bo pondered it for a while, before she said, "Either he made this and has seen the real thing somewhere, or he got this from someone else and that someone else has seen the real thing… I need to talk to him again. Can you take me to him? I mean, I know he ran away but you…you do know where he'd be, right?"

Tamsin let out an amused chuckle. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and leaned in. "What makes you think I'll take you to him again, sweetheart? I promised you that I'd take you to him, and I did. Deal done, done deal."

"Hey, you can't just leave me hanging here! I need to find the real thing!" Bo exclaimed. "I'll pay you!"

"Why don't you lead with that next time?" Tamsin chuckled. "Come with me."
