When she was younger, Erza couldn't understand why people would lie about themselves and hide pieces of themselves from other people. You were who you are and everyone else should just learn to accept it or take the nearest exit.

Then she got a little older and realised that her girly, feminine, side wasn't something most of her friends identify with her, and so she didn't show it as often, though it certainly struggled to get out and making closer female friends with Lucy and Wendy helped it come out naturally more and more.

And then when she ended up in a relationship with Jellal, Erza finally understood why people would hide parts of themselves. She wanted Jellal to be in love with the best version of herself. She wanted him to think of her as wife material, and wife material did not explode in furious bouts of temper and kick their male friends' heads in for eating the last slice of cake….

So for the last three weeks since Jellal officially joined the guild (and officially became Erza's boyfriend) Erza had gone to great pains in hiding her violent temper from him.

It was not easy.

Especially when Natsu is deliberately trying to bait you into a fight because he has nothing better to do. So far to date Natsu had made obnoxious jokes, singed Erza's hair, eaten one of her cupcakes with deliberate slowness before throwing half of it in the bin, and constantly getting into fights with Gray.

Really loud, violent, destructive, fights.

Erza was half certain that the twitch her right eye developed would be a permanent feature at the rate she was going.

Natsu and Gray were fighting again when they both tripped over a stool, crashed into Jellal, and sent her poor boyfriend flying, face first, into her strawberry cream cake.

Strawberries and cream exploded all over Erza as she could only watch with horrified shock as the events unfolded before.

That was the last straw.

She snapped.

"YOU FUCKING DESTRUCTIVE MORONIC IDIOTS!" she roared furiously as she stood up so quickly the chair she sat on slammed onto the floor with a loud, thunderous, sound. "PREPARE TO DIE FOR YOUR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY!" She summoned her sword just as she kicked both Natsu and Gray across the bar. "I WILL HAVE VENGENCE!" she bellowed as she pounced forwards, sword at the ready, and –

…and immediately froze when she realised Jellal had just witnessed her outburst.

"Ah!" she croaked as she slowly turned her head. "Ah!" she croaked out a little louder an definitely more panicked as she met Jellal's blank, probably utterly disgusted, face that peered out beneath her from the cream he had just be in the middle of wiping off with a handkerchief. "Oh my God!" she cried out as she dropped her sword. It landed on the floor with a loud clattering noise. "Oh God!" she repeated again as she ducked her head into a formal bow. "I am so sorry! I am so sorry you had to see that." Jellal said nothing at all while Natsu and Gray both blinked bewilderedly and exchanged confused looks. "I'm not normally like this," Erza lied hurriedly, "I just lost my temper. I didn't mean to!" she blurted out hurriedly.

She bowed apologetically again and kept her eyes trained solely on the stone slabbed floor as she blinked rapidly to keep tears from filling her eyes. This was it. This was going to be the moment her first ever real boyfriend, the love of her life, was going to break up with her because she was a violent, demonic, shrew.

"You…." She whispered mortified. "You must be so shocked and disgusted with me."

There was a moment of silence where all Erza could hear was her own heart beating rapidly in her ears. Slowly, Jellal's feet appeared before her, and gently his hands cupped her face as he cautiously forced her to look up at him.

He looked confused and amused all at the same time.

Erza had no idea what to make of this.

Jellal tilted his head sideways. "Why would I be disgusted with you?" he asked in a soft voice.

"Because….because…." much to Erza's shame she was trembling at this point. Fear, anxiety, and sadness had seized her and was making her a mess. "I am violent and temperamental and a bit of a demon."

She tried to duck her head again so she look at their feet and not the soul-penetrating stare of Jellal Fernandes but Jellal kept a firm grip on the sides of her head as he forced her to meet his eyes. "You're fierce, and strong, and incredibly beautiful," Jellal counteracted, "your temper is part of who you, Erza Scarlet, are, and it's something I love about you."

Erza's heart fluttered at that. "It is?" she asked hopefully.

"It is?!" Natsu and Gray yelped.

(They were promptly ignored.)

"It is," Jellal confirmed.

"B-B-But doesn't it shock you that I could be so….so….volatile."

"Erza," Jellal drawled out in amusement. "I was on the Magic Council, remember?" he pointed out with a soft, beautiful, smile that sent butterflies fluttering in her stomach. "I know all about your violent temper. All of it. You tried to murder me the first time met after you left the Tower of Heaven." Erza flushed at that reminder. She had totally forgotten that she had once leapt at him like a feral animal and attempted to strangle him in front of the entire Magic Council. "I used to sit in on all the meetings….and….and I'm not going to lie, Erza…." Jellal looked hesitant and Erza blinked as she wondered what he was reluctant to admit. "…but I used to read every report on yours and Fairy Tail's antics when I was on the council and laugh myself to sleep every night!" Jellal blurted out quickly.

Erza blinked at that.

She had no idea how to process this.

"Laugh?" she mumbled.

"Yes," Jellal sighed, "I must confess. I found your wrong-doings fucking hilarious."

Something about that rubbed her the wrong way. She couldn't shake off the mental image of smug, pompous, Siegrain, laughing gleefully at all of her mistakes and wrong-doings. Her eye twitched slightly at that.

"I still have some of the reports," Jellal continued, "I have personal favourites that I still re-read when I'm feeling particularly down. One of my favourites is when yo-oomph!"

It was an instant reaction.

Erza never took very well to the idea of being laughed at and now she was just being told how she and her guild had been her boyfriend's favourite entertainment when he was evil and even now he found them fucking hilarious….Erza's temper snapped once more and before she knew it, she punched him.

Her first sank into his soft stomach as Jellal doubled over in agony.

"Oh my God Jellal!" Erza cried out aghast as her brain kicked back in and she realised just what she had done. "I'm so sorry! I just lost my temper and-"

"Its fine, its fine," Jellal held up a reassuring hand as he stood up straight again. He was obviously in great discomfort and his eyes shined with tears of agony but simultaneously there was a big smile on his face as he gazed at her lovingly. "God," he said breathlessly, "you're so beautiful."

Erza flushed at that.

They shared a deep, meaningful, stare as they smiled sweetly at one another before Erza offered her hand to Jellal, and together they walked out of the guild as they discussed all of Jellal's favourite moments of Fairy Tail's destructive antics.

"It's official," Gray murmured to Natsu as he still tried to process how exactly the pair of them escaped with lives and the sanity intact from what they had just witnessed, "Jellal is a masochist."

"Yeah…" Natsu mumbled as he blinked bewilderedly. "….What's a masochist?"
