What's up, everyone! This is GKC here bringing you the next chapter of "Spirits of Fairies".

Now let's get this party started… BEGIN!
Chapter 2: First Job, New Servant, New Member?
I can't believe I'm actually part of Fairy Tail…
Gazing upon the crimson red Fairy Tail marking emblazoned on my left bicep after I took off my jacket so Mirajane could place the magic ink stamp on it.
"How's it feeling?" Mirajane asked me.
"It feels like I'm part of something awesome." I replied with a smile. "I still can't believe I'm in Fairy Tail."
"Believe it, man! You're in the best guild in all of Fiore!" Natsu exclaimed from behind me.
*WHACK!*
"STOP SHOUTING BEHIND ME, YOU IDIOT!" I yelled in annoyance after punching the Dragon Slayer.
Natsu immediately got in my face. "Who are you calling an idiot, four-eyes!?"
"You, you pink-haired pyromaniac!" I retorted, slamming my forehead against his while giving him an angry glare.
"Say that again! I dare ya!"
"How about I punch your lights out instead!"
"Geez, it's like watching Natsu and Gray…" Lucy sweatdropped as she watched me and Natsu get in a fight.
"Aye!" Happy, the blue cat said while munching on a fish.
"Don't compare me to that moron." Gray Fullbuster, the Ice-Make Wizard of Fairy Tail, remarked…while dressed in his boxers.
"Uh, where are your clothes?" Lucy deadpanned. This shocked Gray as he scrambled to find his discarded clothing. "Seriously, why does Natsu keep fighting with everyone? I mean, Chris hasn't been here for even a day but he's pretty persistent in wanting to fight him."
"That's Natsu for ya." Happy chimed in.
"You're seriously asking for a beating, Natsu!" I shouted, holding up my fist.
"Oh yeah? Bring it on! I've been waiting for a chance to fight one of those Heroic Ghost guys!"
"It's Heroic Spirit, dumbass!" I retorted, irritated.
"Whatever! Call out one of them so I can fight them!"
"It doesn't work like that, idiot!"
I felt an armored palm rest on my shoulder which suddenly tightened to the point that I could feel my collarbone almost snap.
"Boys, please refrain from fighting." Erza said as she looked at me and Natsu with an expression that promised pain if we didn't comply.
"Yes, ma'am!" Natsu and I (to my embarrassment) squeaked in sheer terror.
What? Don't look at me like that. She's still terrifying in person and I'm still pretty squishy as a regular human.
"By the way, Chris," Erza's voice snapped me out of my current position of terror. "Aren't you going to take your first job today?"
"Oh, right," I said in realization. I had forgotten that Wizards in guilds could take jobs. Depending on the requests, they could be as simple as finding a lost pet to exterminating a vicious monster. "I guess I could do one today."
"Hey, maybe we should come along." Lucy suggested.
"Huh? Why would we do that?" Gray pondered in confusion, dressed in his clothes once more.
"Maybe because my first official job was Natsu and Happy dragging me along to be a maid to a freak with no taste in women." The Celestial Wizard said with a dry expression.
"Wait, he did what!?" I exclaimed in faux shock.
"Come on, Lucy! That's in the past! Besides, didn't you get Virgo's Key after all that?" Natsu pointed out.
"Only after we went to Galuna." Lucy added.
I chuckled sheepishly. "Maybe, I should do this myself."
"At least take someone as a partner." Erza suggested. "You're still a new member and while I'd be ecstatic for your independence, it's best to get used to partnering with a fellow guild member before you go out on solo jobs."
Well, she's not wrong. I mean, I hardly know anything about Fiore and I'm not entirely confident that my own Magic would last in a fight, especially with the power of Heroic Spirits.
"Alright, I'll take Lucy." I said, bluntly.
"Why her!?" Natsu and Gray exclaimed, eyes blank and their teeth sharp.
"To be honest, I'm pretty sure if I paired with Natsu, he'd destroy everything in sight. Gray's a walking stripper. Erza…well, enough said. Lucy seems the least destructive out of all of you." I stated.
"Why wasn't I included?" Happy held up a paw.
"Because you're useless in a fight." I admitted bluntly.
"YOU'RE SO MEA~N!" The blue feline flew away dramatically, crying hysterically.
Ignoring the drama queen of a cat, I settled my gaze upon the blonde girl. "So, what do you say, Lucy? Wanna help me with my first official job?" I asked.
"Sure, I'd love to!" Lucy beamed with a bright smile.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Natsu and Gray exclaimed with the same expression, fire and ice now enveloping their fists.
"The hell's your problem? Not like you two are trying to get her attention to have a date with her." I raised an eyebrow.
"AS IF!" The Dragon Slayer and Ice-Make Wizard retorted.
Geez, these two are so random…
"Why didn't you pick me as a partner?" Erza chimed.
"Oh, that answer is simple." I said. "You'd get more attention since you're an S-Class and famous throughout the land. Plus, you're scary as hell."
*POP!*
Uh-oh… I fucked up…
"Ho~? Is that so?"
*C-R-R-RACK! C-R-R-RACK!*
ESCAPE PLAN: ALPHA!
"Boy, look at the time! It's time for us to grab that job and head on out! Come on, Lucy!" I stammered in a panic, grabbing Lucy's hand before running towards the job board, swiping a random job, and fleeing for my life out of the guild.
"Chris, slow doooooooown!"
"No time for that! NIGERUNDAYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
After running away from the de- I mean, Erza; Lucy and I were on a train heading towards Frank Town for the job. Apparently, the details were about getting rid of a bandit guild that's been harassing the townsfolk and even attacking travelers.
"So, why did you really pick me?" Lucy asked from the seat across me.
"Hm?" I blinked, focusing on her. "Well, to be honest, you seemed like the sanest person out of everyone in the whole guild."
Lucy giggled at that. "That makes two of us. Though there are others like Mirajane and Levy too. They're not crazy like the others."
I chuckled. "From what I heard in the past, I beg to differ about Mirajane. Still, I can't say that I don't enjoy spending time with them. Everyone seems pretty cool." I said, idly messing with my gauntlet which I had dubbed as my Grail Glove since Heroic Spirits are usually involved in Holy Grail Wars.
"Yeah, I agree. Even if they drive me nuts, break into my apartment, and sometimes do things that make no sense, I wouldn't trade anything else in the world as long as I got to spend all my time in Fairy Tail." The girl said with a bright smile that made my heart go pitter-patter.
"Uh, r-right," I replied. Crap, I feel my cheeks burning!
"Say Chris," Lucy said as she shuffled in her seat.
"Y-Yeah?"
"Could you tell me about some of those Heroic Spirits from your Magic?" She asked.
How could I say no to that smile? "Alright, I can tell you about some of them." I rubbed my chin in thought about which hero to talk about before snapping my fingers. "Oh, how about the tale of the fabled King of Knights?"
"King of Knights?" Lucy repeated while doing the most adorable head tilt. Seriously, it was freaking adorable! I had to resist the urge to pat her head!
"Mhm." I nodded. "The King of Knights, known by his people as Arthur Pendragon, was a legendary warrior-king that rose to the height of royalty after pulling the fabled Sword in the Stone, Excalibur. Though, there are very few accounts that say that Arthur was actually a woman in disguise, and that the Sword in the Stone was actually known as Caliburn, the Sword of Selection."
"Eh? I thought it was Excalibur?" Lucy pondered in confusion.
I shook my head, "The tales of Arthur's sword were spoken and reiterated many times but my tale describes Arthur wielding Caliburn at first. During his rising reign as king, Arthur traveled the land, correlesing or subduing other kingdoms under his rule."
"Why would he do that?"
"You see, the land that King Arthur was born in had been embroiled in civil war after the last High King died. A wise magician then brought forth Caliburn and buried its blade into a magic stone. As it was titled the Sword of Selection, the magician explained that whosoever would pull the sword from the stone would be named king of all the land. Though, what many people don't know, was that the magician never cared whether or not that person was man or woman."
"Wait, even a woman could be king?"
"As long as they met the requirements to be king then yes. Anyways, even after drawing the sword, Arthur was met with many challenges on his road to become king of his homeland. One of those challenges was the Vile King, Vortigern." I said, telling the tale of one of King Arthur's greatest battles.
Lucy gulped. "That…doesn't sound like an easy story."
"Well, to be honest, Vortigern was a bastard. In every sense of the word. He ruled his kingdom like a tyrant, driving his people to despair while also killing whoever he pleased. Sad thing is, he's also King Arthur's blood-related uncle. He even became a dragon during his final battle with Arthur."
"What?" Lucy gasped.
"And if you think that's bad, then the worst has yet to come. Because his greatest challenge, it led to the fall of his kingdom. All due to one of his most trusted knights betraying him, by falling in love with his queen, Guinevere. And I'm sure you can piece together what happens next."
The Celestial Wizard had a hand covering her mouth in horror, "How-"
"It was part of the reason that led to the end of King Arthur. In fact…it was all orchestrated by Arthur's sister, Morgan le Fey. Because of her jealousy after her father named Arthur as his successor, Morgan vowed to get revenge and she would use any means to get it. Even by using her own children."
"That's-"
"Horrible. I know…" I interjected with a frown. "Several of Arthur's knights were Morgan's blood-related children. All of whom were to be molded to kill or usurp the throne from Arthur. But…they all instead served the King as his loyal Knights of the Round Table. Despite this, Morgan would not let this deter her from her vengeance. So, she took…drastic measures."
"What…do you mean?" I could see it in her eyes. Lucy was scared of what would happen next.
"Before I continue, I must ask…are you willing to hear the rest of this tale?" My question came. If she is uncomfortable now, she'll be having a bad reaction to this next part.
"Um…" Lucy gulped.
"I won't force you to hear the rest of it. It's your choice after all."
She inhaled then exhaled before giving me a resolute stare, "I want to hear this."
Well, no turning back now. "Okay, then I shall tell you. You know of King Arthur's queen, yes?" Seeing her nod, I continued. "Well, as you may know, being a King means that it is expected of him to produce an heir to succeed him when he passes away or abdicates the throne. So, his court wizard enchanted the King with enough virility to impregnate his Queen. Unfortunately, Morgan had already interfered in this by assuming the form of Queen Guinivere."
"Wait, you mean he-"
"Impregnated his own sister? Yep. To be fair, he was also put under a spell by Morgan and was powerless against her as she…had her way with him." I grimaced, remembering that horrid detail that led to Mordred's birth. "With the King's seed in her womb, Morgan hid within her lair and waited until the child of King Arthur would be born…"
"That…That's despicable! How could she do that?!" Lucy cried out, tears in her eyes as she felt sorry for the King of Knights.
"Bad things happen to heroes. It's kinda why they have such tragic stories." I said, sympathizing with her. "Anyways, when Mordred, Arthur's son, grew up, he was trained in the ways of knighthood while also told by his mother that King Arthur was his enemy. However, Mordred did not see it that way. In fact, he believed Arthur to be perfect and silently vowed to serve under the King of Knights. When Mordred's own deeds reached Arthur's ears, he was granted a seat amongst the Knights of the Round. However, unaware of his true heritage until his mother told him, Mordred was fine with being Arthur's shadow. Likewise, Arthur never knew about his own child. So, you can imagine how when Mordred, ecstatic about being told he was Arthur's son by his mother, informed his king and father of such news, that it did not end well."
"How so?"
"Remember, Arthur knew nothing about Mordred's status as his son until that point in time. He had believed that when it came time to impregnate his queen, that it failed and he had stopped until he could find a suitable heir. When he learned that Mordred, who bore the same face as his, told him that he was born from the womb of his half-sister, Morgan…he rejected his son."
"No way…"
"And this would start the chain of events that led to the eventual downfall of King Arthur. To be frank, because of this, some of his Knights had either left his service, believing him to be inhuman, slain by someone once lauded as the Perfect Knight, or joined with Mordred, who instigated a rebellion after the King left to battle an invading empire. And it was during the Battle of Camlann, that both armies led by a Pendragon battled in a bloody conflict that saw brother against brother and father against son. By the setting sun, only Arthur and Mordred stood. Battered, bloodied, and exhausted from slaying those that had once been their comrades on the battlefield. They clashed, the King's holy sword knocked out of his hands, Mordred went on a tirade, proclaiming that all of the death that happened was Arthur's fault and wanted to know why the king hated him or made him his successor. Arthur's response was rather shocking. He had never hated his son. Nor did he feel contempt with his birth. The only reason he rejected Mordred was because he did not have the capacity to be a king."
"That's so… terrible…" Lucy said, horrified and saddened that such a thing could happen. "How could Arthur say such a thing? To his own son?"
"That's because before he pulled Caliburn, Arthur was told by his mentor that if he were to pull the sword, he would forgo his humanity. That meant, he could not express his emotions or his human side to anyone. He had to be the Perfect King. And that meant he had to be alone, shouldering the burden of the country on his shoulders for his people." I explained.
"That sword…"
"No. The sword did not control Arthur. He merely followed that creed even after Caliburn was shattered and he received the Sword of Promised Victory, Excalibur." A sigh escaped my lips.
"That's heartbreaking…" Lucy frowned.
"Still, even these words did little in the end…for Arthur had driven a lance through his son's heart but not before Mordred, who was cursed by his mother to slay the king, dealt a severe blow to him. And so, the wounded King remained…on a mountain of corpses that had once been his loyal knights. It was only until after the battle, that King Arthur, in his dying state, gave a task to his last surviving Knight of the Round, Bedivere, to deliver Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake, the one who gave Arthur his sword. Twice he went to the lake but failed to deliver the blade, for Bedivere feared that if he returned the sword, his king would die. Yet even after he tried to give it back to Arthur, the dying king continued to give him the order. So it was on the third trip that Bedivere returned the Sword of Promised Victory to the Lady of the Lake. When he returned to his King's side, Arthur had passed away."
"Victory…at the cost of one's humanity…who would ever live a life like that?" Lucy sobbed, wiping her eyes that were filled with tears. "No one should have to give up their humanity for something so…so…petty as victory."
I nodded, "I agree. However, we cannot change the past. For how can we expect to live in the future? If it makes you feel better, King Arthur and his Knights were praised highly by the citizens of his homeland centuries after their deaths. In fact, I daresay, if I had him as a Saber in my hand, he'd be the most powerful warrior in all of Fiore."
But somehow, Lucy didn't buy that. Look no further than the frown on her face.
"Look, I can't say that what happened to Arthur was right. However, by becoming the Perfect King, he had been the ruler needed to stabilize his homeland after it was ravaged by civil war." I stated.
"It's not that. What if…you become that person, and you become just as heartless as him?" Lucy sniffled.
Oh, Lucy…even if I did, King Arthur was far from heartless. The problem is, they just weren't able to be human with their knights or their citizens. They had to remain strong and dutiful to serve the people. Despite my grievances with how Arthur ruled, there is no true way to be a king. How a kingdom is run is dependent on the person that runs it.
"I assure you, Lucy. Even if I did, I'd still be me. That will never change." I assured her.
"Really? You mean it?"
A smile formed on my face. "I promise. No matter what form I take, I'll never change." Looking out the window, I noticed a town in the distance. "Seems we're at our destination."
"Huh?" Lucy looked out the window as well. "Oh…right. I guess I was so engrossed in that story, I completely forgot." She said, before rubbing her nose.
"You alright?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'll be fine." Lucy nodded with a sad smile. "I'm sorry if I was being such a crybaby…"
Shaking my head, I placed a hand over hers. "There's nothing wrong with being sad. Shedding tears just means you're human. Even Arthur shed tears when it came to him. No one is perfect, after all."
"Yeah…you're right."
"How about this? After our job, I'll take you out to lunch and I'll tell you one of the more happier tales of the Heroic Spirits. Sounds good to you?"
A bright smile greeted me, "Sure, I'll hold you to that." Lucy said with a giggle. Then she looked down and…blushed? "Um, you can…let go of my hand now."
Oh, shit. Am I- Yep, still holding her hand. "S-Sorry!" I quickly released her hand, idly tapping my pointer fingers together.
When the train arrived in town, Lucy and I left the station to meet with the person that sent out the guild request. Luckily, in my wisdom of video games and television, we decided to meet with the mayor.
"Thank you for coming," The mayor of the town said in relief. "I was worried that our pleas for help would be ignored."
"Think nothing of it, sir." I said in response as I sat comfortably in the plush, leather chair with Lucy beside me. "What can you tell us about the bandits?"
"They started harassing our town three months ago. They would raid taverns and stores for money or food then leave the next morning. After that, they'd attack travelers on their way to our humble town, sometimes hurting them severely. Thankfully, no one has died but…" The mayor grimaced.
Lucy frowned as well. "I get it. It won't be long before people start to die from these attacks."
"We'll do what we can, sir." I assured the mayor. "We just need to know where the bandits frequently disappear to."
"I wish I could tell you… they cover their tracks as if they hadn't been there in the first place."
I rubbed my chin, pondering over this detail. "It's likely they have a wizard or two amongst their numbers."
"It's possible." Lucy nodded before she looked at the mayor. "Where are the attacks more frequent?"
The mayor blinked in confusion before his eyes widened. "By the edge of the forest near the town's border."
A smirk formed on my face. "Then we have our investigation area. We'll set out immediately and take care of these guys."
The mayor smiled in relief, "Oh, I can't tell you how thankful I am to hear that." He said to us, standing up from the comforter across and shaking my hand.
"No, thanks necessary. We're just doing our job." I assured the man.
"So Chris, do you already have a plan in mind of how we're going to catch them?" Lucy asked, as she and I were making our way towards the area of interest.
"Well, knowing how criminals work, they always leave some form of damning evidence that could trace them back to their hideout. Like a footprint or a marking." I explained.
"But the mayor said that they cover their tracks well." Lucy pointed out.
I wagged my index finger at her, "Oh, Lucy, Lucy," I said, rather teasingly. "Allow me to show you why my form of magic is amazing." I took out my Archer Class Card from my Grail Glove. "Class Card, set!" Placing the card into the opened slot, it immediately closed and the familiar crimson runes appeared once more. "Verto!"
INSTALL: ARCHER
A brief migraine filled my head while my body morphed to accompany the form of the Heroic Spirit. Following that were memories, muscle movements, anything that was foreign to me was implanted as if I've known them my whole life.
Checking my hands, I saw that they were tan and I felt…powerful.
Still getting used to becoming a Servant. It definitely ain't gonna be easy to adjust.
"Why'd you transform?" Lucy asked me.
"Simple, really," I said, inwardly stunned at how I sounded just like Archer. "As a Heroic Spirit, I have an innate ability to sense magical energy, no matter how miniscule it might be."
"But…don't all Wizards have that?" Lucy pointed out.
"Not on the level of a Heroic Spirit. Since we can detect magic even from far away. And since these bandits have mages, they must have a magical trail."
"And you can see those trails?"
"Exactly. Like what I'm seeing right now." I said, noticing a faint trail of blue colored magical particles. "It's faint, but I can see them clear as day."
"So… where is it leading?" Lucy asked..
"Hm, it'd be faster if I ran but…" I looked at Lucy, apprehensive.
"Um…" Lucy mumbled, looking away as she blushed. Goddamn it, she's so damn cute looking like that! Why Natsu never pulled the trigger to date her, I'll never know.
"Sorry about this." I said, my- or rather, Archer's cheeks burned faintly.
"Sorry for- Eep!?" Lucy squeaked in surprise when I picked her up in a bridal carry.
"Hold on." With that said, I used my newly acquired speed and agility to leap onto the tree branches and kicked off ahead. "Judging by the trail, we should be there in exactly five minutes at this pace. I could go faster but I don't wanna risk giving you whiplash."
"Just…don't drop me." Lucy mumbled.
"Lemme guess…Natsu?"
"Yeah…"
A brief snort of amusement left my throat. "Don't worry, unlike that idiot, I don't let a pretty lady down." Shit, did I say that out loud!? "Uh, what I mean is, I…"
Lucy giggled, despite the blush on her face. "It's okay. I got it. Sweet of you to say. Guess you never did change."
"Please, you're making me blush, Lucy." I said, sheepishly. God, it feels weird for some reason. I kinda wanna make a snarky remark but…unlike Archer, I ain't an asshole to girls.
"Hehe…"
Dammit, her laugh is cute too!
"A-Anyways, let's keep going." I snapped out of my thoughts as I kept jumping from branch to branch, while being careful not to drop her.
I kept my pace slow (at least by Servant standards) as I carried my partner through the foliage until the mana trail grew stronger with each passing second.
"We're close." I told her; my expression firm. "Got any idea which of your Celestial Spirits you'll use?"
"I think I can use Virgo for this one."
…What? That submissive maid? Don't get me wrong, she's cute, and she'll follow Lucy's orders to the letter, but…
"If you're sure. We're about to come into a clearing in T-minus…" My form shot out of the forest. "Now."
After landing on the ground, I let my passenger down gently, who took a step forward. I could feel the heavy surge of magical energy practically surged in the center.
"Our targets are in there." I gestured ahead…to an empty space.
"I…don't see anything."
"They're using some form of invisible magic to hide themselves, but they can't hide so easily from me." I smirked.
"Magic sense?" Lucy asked for clarification.
"That, and my eyes can see a faint outline of a building." I answered, my vision momentarily blurring for a bit before focusing instantly on the invisible building. Have I mentioned how much I love magic? It's freaking awesome.
"How do we get their attention?" She pondered.
"Blow up their base." I said, matter-of-factly. I then pulled out a card, this one depicting a robed man holding a staff. "And I got the perfect one."
"Caster…right?"
"Yep. Hopefully, it's a good one." I replied, mentally canceling the transformation with Archer, momentarily dropping on a knee to catch my breath. "Damn, I still feel exhausted."
"Are you okay?" Lucy asked, kneeling next to me.
"I'll be fine. I should have enough energy to turn into Caster." I answered.
"You don't have to push yourself."
"Heh, even if it's for a short time, you should know how Fairy Tail Wizards are, Luce." I said with a reassuring grin, holding up the Caster card. "We never give up."
(3rd POV)
"Ha! Bunch of idiots! Can't find us at all!" A bandit laughed while drinking a mug of pilfered beer.
"I know! Thanks to our bosses, we're living large!" Another added.
"Yeah, so count em'up boys! Cause we eatin' drinkin' and being merry for a loooong time!"
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" All of them laughed heartily. This was a great day for all of them. Nothing could possibly ruin-
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*
Spoke too soon…
"Oh, pardon me, gentlemen." A suave voice spoke in the middle of the smoke. "I was actually looking for some garbage."
"Who the hell is that?!" A bandit asked.
"Oh, where are my manners?" The smoke cleared to reveal a man who wears a robe woven with the finest fabrics, though he still looks modest such as the black hakama-like pants, and black boots. His long white hair seemed to shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow, eyes like a shining amethyst and he carried an intricate staff of black oak gilded with gold. "You may call me Caster. I am a mage from Fairy Tail and I'm here to get rid of you."
"What?! Fairy Tail!" One of them shouted.
"Oh hell naw! We don't have time to deal with you!"
"Hm, a shame. But I'm sure my lovely assistant here can keep you company." Caster gestured to the empty air beside him. "Oh, Virgo. Care to punish our disobedient friends here?"
Then, from out of nowhere, a figure materialized in the form of a maid with shackles around her wrists, short, pink hair, and blue eyes. She wears a typical maid outfit, consisting of a black undercoat and a white, frilled-trim apron and white knee-length socks with black Mary Jane shoes.
"Damn, she's hot!" All of the bandits suddenly exclaimed in surprise with their eyes being replaced with pink hearts.
"Virgo, if you'd be a dear." Caster gestured with his staff.
"Of course, Lord Caster." Virgo said with a bow before she raised her foot and stomped it down, which caused a hole to open underneath the floor as half of the bandits fell into the pit, screaming.
"Well, this is gonna be easier than I thought." Caster said, and with a wave of his wand, several threads of magic wrapped around several more bandits, tieing them up. "Lucy, the rest are yours."
Stepping through the hole made by Caster, Lucy looked at the defeated group of bandits. "You guys are in big trouble. Shame on you all for terrorizing those townspeople!" She chastised.
"Strange, I expected the wizards helping them would be amongst their number." Caster rubbed his chin.
"Hahaha… you think we're that stupid of telling you that?" One of them sneered.
"Hm, that won't do. Virgo?" Caster gestured to the Celestial Spirit. Virgo nodded and approached said bandit, before putting him in the Boston Crab.
"EYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" The bandit wailed in pain. Due to being tied up by the magical threads, he can't tap out.
"So, care to tell us now?" Caster smiled.
"Okay, okay! I'll talk! They said they were gonna be transporting cargo to the black market! They actually left not that long ago!" The bandit cried out.
"Do you know which direction they went?" Lucy asked.
"The mountains! They're taking a pass there to get to Bosco!"
"And what's the cargo?" Caster inquired.
"I-I don't know, man! I-It looked like an egg!" The bandit panicked.
"An egg?" Lucy looked confused.
"Hmm…are there any details to this…egg?" Caster questioned.
The bandit shrugged. "How should I know? It was under a tarp!"
"Hm, in that case, tell me about the wizards themselves. What magic do they use?"
"Uh, fire, water, and wind magic."
Caster smiled. "Thank you very much." With that said, he lightly bops the man on the head, knocking him up. "Well, shall we get going? We need to intercept those wizards from smuggling away an innocent life."
But what about these guys?" Lucy pondered.
"Virgo, after we leave, could you be a dear and put these men in a fifty foot pit?" Caster asked the maiden with a charming smile.
"Certainly Lord Caster." Virgo nodded, with a smile back. She then stomped her foot hard and the floor cracked beneath the tied up bandits, before falling to their supposed demise.
"Uhhh…are you sure they'll be okay?" Lucy asked, looking down at the pit that Virgo made.
Caster shrugged. "Eh, probably." He said, leaving the hideout.
"You don't sound so sure of yourself." Lucy raised an eyebrow.
"Lucy, I am not at liberty to care for these men at the moment. I'm more worried about the innocent life being taken away from its family." Caster stated.
"Princess, Lord Caster makes a valid point." Virgo interjected. "Once the other bandits are dealt with, we can inform the proper authorities to take the rest into custody."
"Well okay, if you say so." Lucy sighed.
(3rd POV)
"Come on! We need to get this merchandise to the market in Bosco before it hatches!" A man with wild red hair and burning orange eyes shouted.
"Shut up! I'm pulling as fast as I can!" Another man, this one with bright green hair in a ponytail and yellow eyes, retorted.
"Stop arguing, idiots! We're making good progress. We already dealt with the mama, so there's nothing to worry about." A third man, this one having azure blue hair in waves and dark green eyes chastised the duo. "Just a little more than we can sell this egg and make big Jewels on it!"
"I'm afraid I'll have to take that egg from you."
The three men stopped when they heard a sound echoing around them.
"W-Who's there?! Show yourself!" The red haired man demanded.
"I am the noble defender of the innocent. The magician that blooms like a flower of justice…"
Suddenly, a torrent of pink flower petals erupted in front of the trio, shocking them. Once the flurry of petals finally ceased…
"I am the Heroic Spirit of Fairy Tail, Caster!" The transformed mage declared with an elegant wave of his staff while smirking at the men.
"Huh? Who's this quack?" The blue haired man sneered.
"He doesn't look tough." The green-haired man added.
"It's one thing to underestimate me, but its another when it comes to my looks. And they can be quite deceiving." Caster said. "Now then, if you would please hand over the egg, then we leave with no problems."
"Ha!" The red-haired man scoffed. "As if we're gonna listen to some Fairy Tail lovers! Don't you get who you're messing with? We're the Element Trio! We rule this land and that dead-end town!"
Caster chuckled softly, "How amusing. You three actually believe you're a threat."
"Damn right we are! And we'll show you why!" The red-head mage said, before a glyph formed in his hand and fire enveloped both his hands. "Let's see how you handle this!" He said, before punching rapidly, sending a barrage of fireballs at Caster.
"Amusing." Caster casually waved his staff, causing a vortex of flower petals to surround him as the fireballs struck but did no form of damage.
"What?!" The red-haired mage gawked.
"You idiot, let me handle this!" The blue-haired mage scoffed as a blue glyph formed in both hands, before putting them together like a certain Saiyan. "Take thiiiiiiiiis!" he shouted, before sending a high-pressurized stream of water.
"Nope." Caster casually stepped aside, avoiding the stream of water without even a scuff of dirt on his robes. "That was so slow, a baby could dodge it."
"Fools, you're supposed to attack him from all directions!" The green-haired mage said, as he jumped and formed a green glyph before flying around and sent crescent waves of wind that would seemingly cut just about anything from all directions.
"Virgo." Caster said with no form of fear. A wall of rock materialized around the long-haired mage, defending him from the biting winds. Once the rock lowered, it revealed Virgo standing beside Caster. "Much appreciated, Lady Virgo."
"Of course, Lord Caster." Virgo nodded.
"The hell is this?! We're supposed to be unstoppable!" The red-haired mage exclaimed.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, that my friend, was your first mistake." Caster wagged his finger at him.
"Then let's see you stop a triple onslaught!" The trio declared before they pooled their powers together then unleashed a spiraling blast of fire, water, and wind. "Elemental Tri-Shot!"
"Oh, that looks dangerous. Well, I've been meaning to try out this technique." Caster said with a smile before he brought up his staff and aimed it at the spiraling attack. "Velvet Hurricane." The moment the words left his mouth, a powerful spiraling gust of flower petals was shot right at the attack…and shattered right through it towards the trio of bandit mages.
"NO WAY!" The Element Trio exclaimed in horror with their jaws dropped and their eyes nearly bugging out of their skulls.
"Now then gentlemen, care to surrender now and hand over the egg?" Caster asked with a smile. "I promise, the next attack will be devastating."
"W-We surrender!" The trio raised up their arms while waving tiny white flags.
"Excellent!" Caster said, cheerfully. "Lucy, you may come out now!"
Stepping out from behind a rock was Lucy, who breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness, I was starting to freak out that these guys would blow up the whole mountainside with that attack."
"Come now, rest your worries. It would not make for such a pretty face to have stress lines." Caster said as he approached the cart that was covered by a white tarp. He paused in his step when he placed a hand on his chest. "Mm…out of time, huh?" Motes of golden light began to erupt from his body.
(1st POV)
The time limit of my transformation ended, reverting me back to normal even as the Caster card came out of my Grail Glove, which I swiftly caught and returned to my card holder.
Already, I could feel my energy being drained from performing two transformations. Was honestly not expecting to get Merlin but having a high-class Servant such as him would prove fruitful later on.
"Chris, you alright?" Lucy asked me even as I felt her hand on my back.
"Yeah," I replied, taking a moment to catch my breath. "I'm just gonna be needing a lot of food after this job."
"Don't worry, Mirajane will fill you right up." Lucy smiled. She then turned her attention to the tarp covered cargo. "We should check on that egg and make sure it's okay."
"Yeah, good idea." I looked back at Virgo. "I know I'm not your master or anything but could you make sure these three don't run away?"
"Yes, Lord Chris." The maiden bowed.
Yeah, that whole Lord thing doesn't roll off the tongue for me. Despite that, Lucy and I approached the tarp then we removed it. When we managed to view the egg in its splendor, a gasp left my lips.
The egg itself was big. Around the size of a small dog. It was crimson in color but it had strange black markings that reminded me of a bird in flight.
"It can't be…" I said softly.
"I've never seen an egg like this before." Lucy said, examining the egg.
"It's a wyvern egg." I answered.
"What?" Lucy gasped.
"Yeah… I don't know how the hell they managed to get their hands on this, but if sold to the right seller, and they train it right, then it will be a deadly asset to that person." I glanced at the trio that were chained up by Virgo and stormed over to the red-haired man, grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt, and glared. "Where did you get this egg?"
"Isn't it obvious? A nest." The man spat with a sneer.
"The mother. What happened to it? No wyvern would leave its egg unguarded."
"Hah… what do you think? We killed it."
…
…
…
*POW!*
"Ack! My nose!"
I punched the red-haired man's nose and it was bleeding profusely.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH! DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU'VE DONE?!"
"Ugh… yeah, and it was damn worth it." The red-haired man chuckled, with no remorse.
"...Maybe I should do the same." I said, coldly, grabbing the man by his throat and began to strangle him. "What gives you bastards the right to take away a child's mother?! That egg will grow up to be an orphan! You heartless son of a bitch!"
"Like we give a shit." The blue-haired man scoffed. "The world we live in ain't full of rainbows and flowers."
"We all gotta survive somehow. And this is how we do it. You don't like it, then tough shit for you." The green-haired man finished.
I wanted to kill them. Transform into any Servant and end their pathetic lives right then and there!
No one should do this to another living creature.
I wanted…
I WANT TO-
"Don't do it!" I felt arms wrap around me, forcing me to drop a blue-faced redhead who began to cough and breathe in oxygen.
"Lucy…"
"Please, don't." Lucy begged. "If you do, then you'll be no better than them. Please don't do it."
…
She's right.
If I kill these men, I'll be no better than any other criminal. As much as I want to, I'm no murderer…
"You won't be hurting anyone else. Ever again." I told the Element Trio before swiftly knocking them all out with a roundhouse kick. I placed a hand on Lucy's shoulder, "Thank you, Lucy… For a moment there, I lost my composure. It'll never happen again."
"It's fine, just…don't lose sight of what really matters…okay?"
I nodded, "I promise." Looking over her shoulder, my gaze focused solely on the egg. "Now all we need to do is figure out what to do with this."
"What can we do?" Lucy pondered, running a hand on the crimson shell with a sad look.
*CRACK!*
"Eh?!" Lucy gasped, her hand retracting from the shell. It was hatching! Oh boy, I was afraid of this…
"It must've been ready to hatch." I said, standing beside the Celestial Wizard as the egg began to move back and forth as the crack in the shell grew bigger before a piece fell out and what greeted me…was a bright, innocent blue eye. "Here it comes…"
*CRACK! C-R-R-RACK! C-R-R-R-R-R-RACK!*
All of its shell then exploded outward, sending the fragments flying until it revealed itself to be a red-scaled wyvern with blue eyes, while having black streaks on its body. The strange thing is, that its wings were tiny and it had what appeared to be black raven feathers.
I knew it. This wyvern…is a Rathalos. But that's impossible, something like this only exists in Monster Hunter. This particular breed of Rathalos…was a Ravewing Rathalos.
"Oh, it's so cute." Lucy said with hearts for eyes as the tiny wyvern shook off any shell fragments on its tiny body before it looked at her then at me.
*Raaaaawr!*
"Ahhhhh! It's even cuter!" Lucy gushed. "Chris, can we keep it?!"
"Huh?!" I gawked. "Wait, Lucy, we can't just-"
"Pleeeeeeeeeease?"
Dammit, the puppy-eyes! My number one weakness.
"Okay…" I said with a sigh. "We can keep him."
The little Rathalos seemed to like that idea as it hopped off the cart and tried to flap its tiny wings before falling into Lucy's arms. It looked up at her and released a squeaky roar.
"Oh, you're so precious!"
"You'll change your tune once it grows up…" I said dryly. "It's gonna be your responsibility to look after it."
"You mean our responsibility." Lucy pointed out.
"What?"
"Well, if you think about it, he saw both of us when he hatched. So that makes us his adoptive parents."
Oh…shit…she's right. Well…given that I played Monster Hunter before I came to this world, I should be able to take care of the essentials. It's gonna be a pain in the ass to clean up after it, but hey…it's just a scaly dog if you think about it.
A big…fire-breathing…scaly dog…that flies…
Fuuuuuuuu-
"Thank you so much! You two have saved our town." The mayor congratulated the both of us.
"Oh, it's no problem! We're glad to be able to help!" Lucy smiled. "Plus, we got a bonus to boot too!" She said, showing off the little Rathalos that was sleeping in her arms.
"Bless me! A wyvern? I've not seen one of these except in my grandfather's stories." The mayor said as he stared at the small newly hatched creature.
"Yeah, apparently, those bandits killed its mother and tried to sell this little guy to the black market." I explained, running a hand on my newly adopted wyvern son's head.
"Well, I'll say you two did a good thing. Even if wyverns aren't as good as their dragon cousins, this little guy shouldn't be alone." The mayor replied with sympathy. He reached into his desk and pulled out an envelope, handing it to me since my hands were empty. "Here's the reward. 300,000 Jewels. And as a bonus, I'll even pay for the train tickets back to your route in Magnolia."
"That's a bit much, sir." I said, sheepishly.
"Nonsense." He shook his head, looking at the Rathalos. "This little one is yours to care for. I would feel honored to give safe passage to him towards his new home."
"Oh, we need to come up with a name for him, don't we?" Lucy asked. She looked down at the sleeping wyvern and pouted. "But I don't know what name to give him."
"Ratha."
"Eh?"
"That's gonna be his name. Ratha." I said. "It's something…I just know it felt right for him."
"Ratha…" Lucy said, looking down at it again and smiled, "It does have a nice ring to it. Alright then, Ratha it is."
Ratha's eyes slowly opened before he looked up at his foster mother and croaked softly, seemingly liking the name.
A smile graced my face. Even if it was impossible, I couldn't really care about how a monster from a video game series managed to appear in this world. After all, I'm not even from Fiore. But…
…I wouldn't change it for anything else.
The trip back to Magnolia and Fairy Tail was rather easy-going. Ratha, despite his wings being small and unable to produce flight, had a lot of energy. Heh, he caused me and Lucy no end of trouble on the train. Strangely enough, he even managed to figure out how to breathe fire.
Still, it was enjoyable and…nice. Being a father, I mean. Hell, when it grows up, we could take him out on Jobs and our missions would be a lot easier and smoother. Though I'm also sure that once we introduce him to Fairy Tail, I pray that he doesn't burn down the guild, let alone…fight Natsu. Oh shiiiiiiit, thinking about that, I should prevent that at all costs. Because God help that pink-haired pyromaniac if he ever hurt my precious Ratha-
Holy crap, I'm getting the full paternal package here. So this must be what it feels like to be a worried parent. Now I sympathize with my folks.
"Here we are, Ratha," Lucy said, still carrying the small Rathalos in her arms as he looked up curiously at the slowly rebuilt guild hall. "Your new home."
"Hopefully, everyone hasn't started a brawl yet." I added with a bit of a jest, opening the door and- CHAIR!
*POW!*
"OW! GODDAMN! THAT HURT!" I cried out in pain, holding my aching head. Glaring angrily at the interior, "OKAY, WHO'S THE ASSHAT THAT THREW THAT!?"
"Sorry about that, Chris!" Wakaba, the Smoke Magic Wizard apologized. "We bet Natsu and Gray couldn't go a day without fighting."
Macao added in with a sigh, "Needless to say, they didn't last a second…and I lost five hundred Jewels…"
"I warned you not to bet with Cana." Wakaba told his friend.
"NATSU, GRAY! GET OVER HERE!" I roared in absolute fury. "I GOT A WYVERN TO BURN BOTH OF YOUR ASSES AND I'M NOT AFRAID TO USE HIM!"
"YOU HAVE A WHAT!?" The entire guild cried out in comical shock. But when they looked towards Lucy who had it in her arms, their moods did a complete 180. "AWWWWWWWWWWWWW, IT'S SO CUTE~!"
"Shh!" Lucy shushed the guild. "He doesn't like loud noises."
Natsu, Gray, Happy, Erza, Mirajane, Elfman, and the rest of the guild crowd around Lucy to get a better look at Ratha.
"Whoa, did you guys find him on your Job?" Natsu asked, looking at Ratha with sparkly eyes.
"Yeah, we rescued him from bandits that tried to sell him off as an egg." I explained. "Though, when he hatched, he immediately imprinted on us. So we're its parents."
"Awwwww, that's so cute!" Mirajane gushed out.
"Does it like to eat fish?" Happy asked randomly.
I nodded, "Well, we've been feeding him small meats and fish. So, yeah, he does. He usually burns them before he eats them."
"What's his name?" Gray pondered.
"We named him Ratha." Lucy answered.
"Hmph! A manly name indeed!" Elfman nodded in approval. "It's gonna grow big and strong with that!"
"You don't know the half of it…" I muttered.
Ratha stared at Natsu for what seemed like forever…until he breathed fire at his face?! DAMMIT NO!
Luckily, Natsu was a Dragon Slayer that specialized in Fire. So, it didn't really affect him…more like, he just decided to suck up the wyvern's flames and released a satisfied burp after eating them. "Man, Ratha's got some tasty flames!" He said with a toothy grin.
"How? Just…how?" I stood there gawking. I mean, it's Natsu but seriously, how the hell can Fire Dragon Slayer magic give you the ability to eat FIRE!?
"That's Natsu for ya!" Happy chimed in, which Ratha added in with a small roar.
Erza examined Ratha while running a finger along his chin, much to his delight, "He'll make a fine addition to the guild. I daresay, he'll be the first wyvern we've had in Fairy Tail."
"Oh! Speaking of which, Chris unlocked a new Heroic Spirit!" Lucy chimed in. "He called him Caster, so I guess it was a very powerful wizard in the past."
"Uh, not was, Lucy. Is. Caster is actually still alive." I pointed out.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Remember, whatever Heroic Spirit I have, I become that Spirit. Or rather…I become one with them. Their spirits are still alive within these cards." I said, showing the unlocked cards.
"So, are they trapped?" Mirajane pondered.
"Not exactly. It's more like, I have a copy of their spirits in these cards. It's not actually them but it is." I explained.
Natsu groaned, "This is hurting my head."
"Trust me, there's a lot about this kind of magic that would confuse you. Even me." I said. "There's a lot I don't know about when it comes to my magic, but even so, I'll eventually come to understand it one day."
Yeah, fat chance of that happening. Damn you, Nasu for making magic in Fate so goddamn complicated…
Makarov approached me and Lucy, his gaze lingering on Ratha, who seemed content with staying by Lucy's side. "Well, I say we have ourselves a little party to welcome the newest member of the Fairy Tail family. Mirajane, get out the beer! We're gonna party like its no tomorrow!"
"YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" The guild cheered.
Welp, just another day in the life of me in Fairy Tail…
…But, I can't help myself. I just love being with these guys!
A/N: And there's the end of the chapter, folks!
Now, just to add, Ratha is the only MH monster appearing. Why would I bring him in? Because I have ideas for the future and you will see them come to fruition. Mark my words.
Anyways, don't worry if your OC hasn't appeared. They will, trust me. I was gonna just do four OCs, but seeing how many of you were so passionate about this fic to the point of giving me multiple OCs to use? I just couldn't choose anymore. So, hopefully, I can bring in characters to make this more interesting.
Good news, the next chapter will begin the Tower of Heaven arc. Bad news, my new job usually takes most of my free time, so it'll be sparing on when I'll be able to work. Have no fear, I'll be doing my absolute best to upload new chapters.
Oh, and, uh, as for the MC going off the handle like that… I'll admit, it's a habit of his that mimics mine. When I see people act so cruel to others, be they human or otherwise, I just…lose it. So yeah, that's gonna be appearing at some points during the story. Some of which will be affecting him in drastic ways.
Review and comment on this chapter. Love it, hate it, but just know that you've read it.
Peace out, everyone!
