"...Why am I here?..." Saitama thought with a serious expression, as he looked down at the floor with an intense pondering gaze.
Being the single most well known individual in the entire world has both it's perks as well as it's disadvantages, and sometimes both can miraculously go hand in hand with one another. One such example of this would be when he began receiving requests and invitations to appear on television, at first they started out normal day time talk shows and some legit interviews with major news outlets wanting to hear his story, then it quickly devolved into gossip talk and asking him if he'd ever date a fan, pointless crap like that. So he of course stopped accepting them in the hopes that they would realize their error, they didn't, so as he no longer made ANY appearances on TV quite literally EVERYONE tried their best to convince him to be on their program, for now he had become an elusive guest and if they managed to score his appearance the ratings would skyrocket. And to their credit they did make some compelling offers, appealing to his bargain shopping nature with deals to many local grocery stores, promising a completely isolated room where no crazed fans could reach him, they even had made offers to conduct the interview in a location of his choosing even if it was strange or inconvenient, they wanted him THAT badly.
But in the end he always said no, turned them away like he did his fans who'd probably risk getting a light slap from him if it meant ripping off a part of his costume in order to keep it for themselves, and so he went back to his life of just watching TV and never appearing on it. Then Amai Mask came into his life, and for the life of him he could never figure out how the blue haired hero kept getting him to come onto different shows for the sake of interviews. Maybe it was because he was a fellow hero, maybe it was because he always delivered on his promises to make the experience less awful, or maybe it's because he had an equally successful career outside of hero work as a typical celebrity and he was just good at working people to get his way. Whatever the scary power he had to compel people to do things, or in his case simply agree he had no way of knowing, even so this latest outing from the other's request had crossed a line.
To be fair he had no idea what it was EXACTLY the top ranking hero of A class had told him, for when he had called him on his phone and made the request he was in the middle of playing a game King had left him, so most of the details had been simply ignored. Except for certain keywords that he made sure to listen for such as gameshow, any mentions of himself, and the promise that he would not be a contestant in any way whatsoever. And so thanks to a combination of both his lack of attention and Amai's gift of gab he agreed just so he could end the call and get back to his game, which led him to his current horrid situation. Sitting in an admittedly comfortable chair he was basking in a soft shade of pink light, and to his left there was a massive wall to hide about three fourths of the set he was on, though he knew very well that on the other side of that wall there were either stools or chairs for people to sit in.
Saitama, the strongest hero in the world, the man who had single handedly stopped a planet wide invasion, was on a dating show.
"I could just leave, not like anyone could stop me, I could even jump out of here and be free from this..." He reasoned in his mind, as he lightly gripped the arms of his chair "Just because I'm famous doesn't mean I have to go along with this, besides Amai would be better for this kind of thing, ladies love him just as much as me."
"Ahem." The very person who was on his mind sounded from behind him, causing him in turn to release a sigh "How are you doing?" Amai Mask asked.
"How do you think?" Saitama returned, still staring at the floor with an expression that made it seem like it had wronged him in some way.
"Ah, well I just came over to inform you we're going to be starting soon, our contestants have finished getting their answers prepared for the questions and all of the other necessary preparations have been completed." Amai Mask explained.
"Speaking of, you didn't do what I think you did right?" Saitama asked, finally looking over his shoulder to meet his gaze with his own.
"What is it you assume I did?" The other questioned.
"Tatsumaki, Fubuki, and Mutsuko aren't going to be the contestants right?" He clarified.
"Oh, oh no, that'd be suicidal of me." Amai Mask replied with a semi shocked expression "Fubuki would've been fine on her own as a contestant sure, but if I were to invite the other two or even just mention this to them, they'd turn this whole building into a war zone." He commented.
"Which would've given me a chance to escape..." Saitama lamented sadly.
"Be rest assured that the contestants we have brought forth, while of course fans of yours as everyone is, are not your personal friends nor are they mentally unstable or questionable in their motives, they are simply three lovely ladies who were chosen because they are composed and professional." He assured.
"Huh...that's...actually impressive." Saitama admitted, surprised he was even able to FIND three female fans of his who weren't complete loons.
"Believe me, I want you to do more things like this as it's good publicity for the association as well as yourself and encourages hero enlistment, so I take each opportunity I get you in front of a camera with absolute seriousness." Amai Mask assured, as someone off set waved to get his attention "Ah, looks like we're going live right now, again Saitama just relax and ask the questions we show on the prompt, this whole thing will be painless and quick and you'll be back home before lunch." He promised as he walked away.
Even though he still found this entire thing uncomfortable he knew that Amai was a man of his word, so begrudgingly he allowed himself to become less intense with his gaze and straightened up a bit to get ready.
"Camera's rolling in three!...two!...one!..." Someone next to the camera shouted out before going silent as the filming started.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BOYS AND GIRLS, FRIENDS, ROMANS, GLADIATORS, AND SPECTATORS OF ALL SHAPES, SIZES, AGES, ORIENTATIONS, AND LOCATIONS! IT'S TIME FOR THE ONLY SHOW THAT FINDS LOVE FOR ALL YOUR FAVORITE HEROES, IT'S HEROIC HEARTTHROB!"
"THAT'S the name of the show?..." Saitama wondered with a raised brow, as the loud booming voice of the show's announcer continued.
"AND FOR TODAY'S SPECIAL VALENTINE'S DAY EPISODE WE NOT ONLY HAVE AN AMAZING HERO AS OUR MYSTERIOUS LOVE INTEREST, BUT ALSO THREE RAVISHING LOVELY HEROIC LADIES WHO WILL BE THE CONTESTANTS! HOWEVER ONLY YOU AT HOME AND WE HERE IN THE STUDIO WILL KNOW WHO THEY ARE AS TO KEEP THE MYSTERY STRONG AND THE PASSION PURE, SO LET'S BRING THEM OUT FOR YOU TO MEET!"
Upon saying that three different pairs of footsteps could be heard coming onto the set from the other side of the wall, one by one all stopping once they reached whatever seats had been prepared for them. And while he still had no interest in this at all he was curious if whether or not he could figure out their identities from their voices.
"CONTESTANTS! WHILE THE VIEWERS AT HOME LEARN ABOUT YOU FROM THE MESSAGES THAT APPEAR ON SCREEN, WHY NOT GREET THE MAN WHOSE HEART YOU HOPE TO HOLD?"
"Hello there! I'm so honored to have this chance to speak to you! and maybe even go on a date with you too!" The first woman exclaimed, from both her tone and volume she was very excited yet was also polite.
"This is my first time doing something like this, so I hope you don't mind if I'm a bit awkward." The second woman admitted, and even with her apparent nervousness still sounded determined and focused.
" Although I have only recently become a hero, I am still grateful for this opportunity to meet you and I hope that should you choose me that we will get along. " The third woman spoke, her voice having a perfect balance between elegance and seriousness.
"...Nope, I have no idea who they are." Saitama quickly decided, as not a single of those voices jogged any kind of memory.
"ALRIGHT! NOW THAT THE GREETINGS ARE OUT OF THE WAY LET'S GET ON WITH THE SHOW! STARTING WITH THE FIRST QUESTION!"
"Huh, not a bad lineup." Tatsumaki commented, as she picked up a piece of popcorn and threw it into her mouth.
Valentine's day was not just an unbearable slog for Saitama but also for all of his friends, hence why they had all agreed to meet up at King's place in order to survive the day. Everyone, except for Saitama and of course Geryuganshoop was present, even Mumen Rider who had only recently been included into their group had been given an invitation by Kaemon, resulting in them all gathering around in King's living room and watching tv with a sea of snacks and beverages populating the small tables nearby. However as they began to flip through channels trying to find something like a crappy rom com movie marathon to riff on as they watched it, they stumbled upon a dating show that was apparently meant for heroes, peaking their curiosity just enough to settle on it as the first thing they'd watch. Though after seeing the lineup of female heroes who would be the contestants they were quickly glad they had decided to do so, as each one of them was not only beautiful in their own way but was also fairly unique from each other.
The first two female heroes could be simply described as amazons as both were remarkably tall and had very visible muscles, however their muscles as well as every other detail of their appearance helped to easily differentiate the two from each other, along with their personalities of course. Starting with the one who sat on the left you had the B class hero Captain Mizuki, a former track and field champion she was inspired to become a hero after witnessing a live news feed of Saitama killing a monster with his signature one punch, after that she began training every single day using his own training method to try and be as amazing as him. This in turn has caused her whole body to essentially be one well toned muscle, a perfect balance of flexibility, speed, and power made her a deadly threat against any foe she encountered, though combine her physical appearance with her abundantly long wild orange hair and bright blue eyes, and she was an absolute bombshell.
Yet if she were a bombshell, then the woman who came next would be a nuke. Sitting next to her as the middle contestant was the only female member of the Tank Top army, and while she was nearly equal to Mizuki in height she VASTLY trumped her when it came to physical power. Being the only female member of an otherwise all male group of heroes meant she had to prove her worth, that she wasn't going to be the token girl inclusion and could actually pull her weight. And not only had she proven to herself that she could go well beyond what might be expected of a woman hero or otherwise, she had shown her leader that she was as dedicated if not more so to the tank top than the others.
This ultimately led to her having as stated an amazon physique, but where as Mizuki's entire body was comparable to a well toned muscle, her's was more on par with a flexing bicep. From the muscles of her arms, to the abs on her stomach, to the calves of her legs Tank Top Girl was easily the strongest normal female in the world. And while most men were honestly intimidated by her because of this, the one who she was here to see hadn't been. Similarly to Mizuki she had also been inspired by Saitama's strength, always having dreamed she could be an amazing hero though finding the lack of powers to be a detriment, upon seeing what he could accomplish by simply working towards his goal a new found fire had been ignited within her to chase her dream.
Though because he worked alone there was never a chance she could become his disciple, so instead she sought to train under Tank Top master for the time being, for she also respected and admired him as a hero and knew his strict yet fair training methods would help her more than any gym trainer could. Topping off all of this with short cut brown hair and matching brown eyes, and she was a subtle and obvious beauty at the same time, though her personality was not well known as she rarely ever spoke to anyone other than her master.
Finally there was the third contestant who was staggeringly different from the other two, though this didn't mean she was a pushover by any means. Unlike her competitors she wasn't a looming tower of apparent fitness and muscle, admittedly she was on the smaller side, however from both her appearance as well as the description given on screen about her, any doubts or assumptions she couldn't hold her own were quickly dismissed. Her name was Lin Lin, and although as stated by herself she had only recently become a hero, she was a highly regarded and respected martial artist who had competed in the widely known super fighter tournament, as well as single handedly had beaten all other female martial artists that were actively practicing.
This in turn left her with little to no challengers as any women who hadn't fought her yet came to fear her skill and power, causing her to look elsewhere to continue her training and refinement of her martial art talents. And given that the world she lived in was constantly being threatened by monsters and criminals alike, this meant that so long as she registered to become a hero she would be able to beat up as many opponents as she wanted, and so began her newfound career in addition to martial arts. However, not too long after she had begun had she encountered a monster who proved too much for her, despite everything she threw at it the creature kept coming with no signs of even being affected by her attacks, where as she was at the end of her stamina and was badly battered from it's connected strikes. With aching legs crying out in pain and on the brink of collapsing altogether, all she could do was hope by some miracle she would win and survive as the creature approached to end her life.
But then without warning a cannon like explosion came from seemingly nowhere completely obliterating it, covering everything around her in viscera and blood yet she for some reason was still clean. That's when she saw him, like a knight riding forward to protect his fair maiden from the clutches of some vile fiend, the strongest hero in the world One Punch Man stood in front of her, having appeared within the blink of an eye to protect her. Sadly, due to the state she was in as well as the fact the remains meant to cover her had covered him instead, he took off before she was able to even properly say a single word of gratitude, thus leaving her there to fall to her knees and begin recuperating. After that near death experience she took her duties as a hero far more seriously as well as her training, she vowed she would not let that moment shake her but instead fuel her to be better and better, so that hopefully one day she might get to meet her savior and give him the gratitude he deserves.
Combine this motivation of her's with her serious yet graceful personality, as well as her dark raven hair and violet colored eyes, she while not the same as the other two was still a competitor to be wary of, truly making it anyone's game.
"I'm kinda surprised they were even able to get them all to agree to this." King admitted as he sipped his soda "Not just the women, the guy too." He added, just so they know he meant everyone in the show.
"That does bring up the question of who the mystery hero is, from how they described him it has to be one of a highly notable status." Genos noted.
"Could it be someone from S class?" Mumen Rider asked.
"PFFT! HELL NO!" Tatsumaki shouted out, with a small fit of laughter "Do you know HOW much crap they'd get from everyone if they were?" She asked.
"It's honestly probably that one guy, ya know the one with the blue hair?" Mutsuko suggested.
"Oh Amai Mask, yeah that does make sense." Fubuki agreed.
"Shh! he's gonna ask a question! then we'll know from the voice!" Kaemon exclaimed, quieting them down so they could all hear.
"Okay, first question." Saitama Spoke, as he looked at the teleprompter "Why did you choose to become a hero? not everyone who joins knows what they're getting into, leading to a lot of resignations before a full month has passed, so what made you decide not only to try it out but stick with it?" He asked.
Keep in mind that due to his boredom, which had been worsened because of the situation, Saitama had read that question out as monotone and as simple as possible. However both the staff in the studio and the girls knew why this was due to the circumstances regarding his emotions, so it didn't bother them at all but for those at home who didn't know it was not only noticeable but also strange.
"Well...to be honest..." Mizuki spoke first, her cheeks heating up as she tried to find the right way to answer "I...became a hero because of you, you're just so amazing and awesome and all the while you're just a normal guy, and so I wanted to be just as incredible as you are." She answered, doing her best to compliment him to try and earn extra points.
"Um...that's kinda why for me too..." Tank Top Girl replied awkwardly, rubbing her arm as she did.
"...Same." Lin Lin hesitantly chimed in, as she wanted to at least try and think of something unique to say but ultimately couldn't.
"Wow, I inspired all three of you to become heroes?" He asked, honestly amazed by their response.
"Well yeah, like Mizu-, I mean contestant one said, you were just a normal guy who worked hard to become as powerful as you are, you might not see it yourself but you are a really big inspiration for a lot of people out there, and we're no exceptions." Tank Top Girl explained, just barely catching herself from saying the first girl's name to him.
"Huh, I guess I never really thought about that, thanks for telling me." He said, causing a small blush to appear on her cheeks.
"What is with this guy? he sounds bored as hell." Tatsumaki commented.
"Yeah, it is a little weird, you'd think regardless that they're heroes he'd still be excited to have three women all wanting to be with him." Mutsuko agreed.
"Maybe he's just nervous? I know I sure as hell would be." King suggested, dreading the thought of a day like that ever happening.
"I dunno, there's something kinda familiar about his voice..." Kaemon muttered, as their mind began to try and figure out who it was.
"I was thinking the same." Genos admitted, as he too was doing his best to uncover his identity.
"Well who knows, maybe as the questions go on he'll get more into it?" Fubuki suggested.
"Speaking of." Mumen said, just as the announcer came back.
"ALRIGHT! QUESTION NUMBER TWO! KEEP IN MIND BOTH CONTESTANTS AND VIEWERS THAT OUR MYSTERY BACHELOR DID NOT WRITE THESE QUESTIONS!"
"That...is concerning..." Saitama thought, as the last part of that statement sounded scarily like some kind of legal disclaimer.
Unfortunately for the one and done crusader his uneasy feeling would prove to be on the dot, for as the second question came onto the prompter he slowly turned his head to look at Amai Mask, who stood only but a few feet away next to the camera.
"No. Way." He mouthed out silently, not wanting to make a scene.
"We. had. a. deal." Amai Mask mouthed back, causing Saitama to grip his chair's arms tighter.
Considering for but a moment to just throw all care out of the window and jump through the ceiling, the moral compass he had inside of him knew that wouldn't be fair to the contestants, who true to Amai's word were controlling themselves and not acting like a bunch of psychopaths, which he did appreciate. So with a heavy sigh he looked back to the teleprompter, beginning to believe that he had somehow died and was now in hell.
"If...we were on a date...how would you want me...to make my move..." He said as slowly as he could, dreading each bit that left his lips.
Although there had already been a brief silence before as he had a non verbal conversation with Amai, another brief silence followed as he finished for the others hadn't expected such a question, and thus needed a moment to think.
"U-Um...well...I guess...I-I'd want you to...wrap your arm around me and p-pull me close..." Mizuki stuttered out, as the thought of him making a move on her REALLY heated up her cheeks.
"I...would want you to be direct...not waste any time...just...do whatever you felt like...within reason of course..." Tank Top Girl said, each bit getting progressively quieter to the point she was practically whispering.
"I'd want you to hug me as tightly as you could so my head could rest against your chest, and then as we remained there in the embrace I could hear the soothing steady rhythm of your heart." Lin Lin answered, managing to be the only one who was completely calm and collected.
"Wow, that jumped to eleven pretty quick." King commented.
"Bet ya it was some perv who writes the questions." Tatsumaki reasoned.
"Yeah, even the guy didn't wanna say it out loud." Mutsuko noted.
"I wouldn't either, to just ask something like to women you don't know? that'd be embarrassing, and would probably send the wrong message." Mumen said.
"I swear I know who this guy is! it's on the tip of my kombu!" Kaemon insisted, closing their eyes to try and search their memory for who the voice belonged to.
"Is something wrong Genos? you seem kinda surprised by something? which is pretty rare for you." Fubuki asked, as she looked towards the wide eyed cyborg.
"..." Genos kept silent, for it was in that exact moment he had matched the voice to the person.
"ALRIGHT LADIES! ONE MORE QUESTION BEFORE OUR FIRST COMMERCIAL BREAK! AND HOO BOY IS IT SPICY~"
"There is no god." Saitama concluded, as no merciful deity would allow this kind of thing to happen.
Knowing well that whatever he was about to see would be horrible, the moment the words came onto the small screen his eyes shot open as far as they could.
"Oh HELL no!" He exclaimed as he stood up and pointed at it "There is NO way I am asking that!" He asserted, completely taken aback by what the question was.
Catching everyone off guard by his sudden outburst, it was this extra bit of emotion added to his voice that sparked the memory of a certain black skinned sea creature.
"IT'S SAITAMA!" Kaemon shouted as they jumped to their feet "HOLY SHIT IT'S SAITAMA!"
Feeling proud of themselves for having finally figured it out they turned around to look at the others, as to share in their glorious success at having deduced his identity. Sadly what they were met with was the stunned expressions of their friends, with the three women's faces leaning a bit more towards horrified.
"Um...you guys okay?..." They asked.
"...SAITAMA!" The three women all shouted at once, before they suddenly took off flying out of the apartment, Fubuki having been lifted into the air by her sister.
If King's apartment had one of those walls that was nothing but massive windows then the damage caused by such an action would be minimal, sadly he had an actual wall where they exited resulting in a massive gaping hole to now be present in his home.
"...I knew that would happen." Genos stated, having already gotten over his surprise when he had figured it out first.
"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!" Saitama questioned angrily, as he pointed at Amai Mask's face.
Due to the outburst the producers of the show decided it would be best just to rush the commercial break, so that way they could hopefully calm down One Punch Man as it was going on.
"Now now, no reason to be so angry..." The other replied, genuinely becoming nervous as Saitama was surprisingly intimidating when he was actually mad.
"No reason?! WHAT kind of question was that?! and is it even allowed to be asked on TV?!" Saitama asked.
While the question was honestly not AS bad as he was making it out to be it still wasn't that great, meaning that the anger he was currently feeling towards the top ranking hero of A class was completely justified. Yet before he could say anything the other three heroes walked up behind him, leading Amai Mask to assume they would help diffuse the situation.
"Ah ladies, could you please help me calm down One Punch Man? and tell him the question isn't THAT bad?" He asked.
"That depends, who wrote the question." Tank Top Girl replied coldly as she, Mizuki, and Lin Lin all had angry glares present on their faces.
Having been curious as to what could've possibly elicited such a reaction from the normal emotionally mute hero, when the three females saw what was on the teleprompter they felt a massive wave of heat hit their faces, though this one entirely due to anger. Normally due to the difference in their rank Amai Mask would have been quick to assert his authority over them, but seeing as how a man capable of turning him into a fine paste was also glaring at him with a fiery gaze, he decided it be best to continue trying to calm them all down.
"Look, I will admit fully that I was the one who put the questions onto the prompt, but I myself did not in any way come up with them, they were questions chosen by a poll from a carefully selected group of individuals." He assured.
"Not careful enough." Lin Lin retorted.
"I understand your anger, believe me I do, but we still have the rest of the show to do, so how about we just toss away the pre selected questions and One Punch Man can-"
Being cutoff as a massive explosive force blew a huge hole into the building, as everyone looked to see what had caused it they found a VERY displeased looking trio of more female heroes standing there.
"SAITAMA!" Tatsumaki shouted out as she pointed at him "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!" She demanded to know.
It was in this moment that the light bulb in his head dinged with realization, for he could just walk out of here right now and go home.
"Don't look at me, it's all Amai's doing, dude tricked me." He partially lied, as he began walking away.
"W-What?! One Punch Man you can't-" He began to say, only to be cut off again as the sound of cracking knuckles was heard from behind him.
A part of him wanted to turn around, to look and see just exactly what the other three women were preparing to do to him, but considering as he was now caught between six angry women, two of which were espers, he opted to let his instincts do the talking for him by running away.
"GET HIM!" Mutsuko shouted out as they all proceeded to chase after him.
"...I really hate Valentine's Day..." Saitama thought with a sigh, as he closed his eyes and left via the hole the others had made.
