Back at the palace, Prince Yamato Ishida AKA Prince Matt is having a few fencing rounds with his best friend, Taichi Yagami AKA Tai Kamiya, just before the ball was to take place. At first, Prince Matt is winning, but then Tai points his own fencing sword at Matt.
Taichi 'Tai' Yagami/Kamiya: Wake up, your majesty. You've become slow these past few days. And I don't only mean at fencing. You're acting just like you're in a daze.
Just then, Captain Wisemon comes forward for them to stop their fencing from being turned into an actual sword fight. While it is true that the two of these young men are the best of friends, there is also a bit of a rivalry between them, especially when regarding the ladies.
Captain Wisemon: It's true, your highness. You've been acting as though your mind is elsewhere since the hunt several days back in the forest.
That is when Koushiro Izumi AKA Izzy comes into the room to express his annoyance with the prince's slippage in what he helps his royal highness in.
Koushiro 'Izzy' Izumi: You have even been particularly slow in our tutoring lectures, your royal highness.
Prince Yamato 'Matt' Ishida: It's that wonderful girl. I can't get her off my mind.
It is then that Jyou Kido AKA Joe joins them all in the room on his way to move his effects to the palace's medical ward.
Jyou 'Joe' Kido: Well, there'll be plenty of girls coming here to the ball tonight. Who knows, maybe your mystery girl will come to the ball tonight. And isn't that just the whole reason you wanted this ball to be put on in the first place?
Prince Yamato 'Matt' Ishida: Nah-ah-ah-ah. She's unlike any other girl I had ever met before. She had such spirit and kindness.
Tai suddenly sees a reason in the prince's description of the girl he had met in the forest to make the matter about him.
Taichi 'Tai' Yagami/Kamiya: You don't suppose that this mystery girl of yours has a sister, do you?
Prince Matt can see exactly what his best friend, Tai, is trying to do, but he just chuckles at the very thought of it.
Prince Yamato 'Matt' Ishida: I know exactly what you're getting at, Tai. But as I told my father before, I barely know anything about her, never mind whether or not she has a sister or close friend or anything else of the sort. Besides, this ball isn't just so that I can reunite with my mystery girl; isn't also for the benefit of the people.
Jyou 'Joe' Kido: Of course, your majesty. How shallow of me.
The prince is suddenly nervous about the idea that his mystery girl does come.
Prince Yamato 'Matt' Ishida: What if she comes, after all? Then, what'll I do?
Captain Wisemon: Then, you'll tell her that you are the prince, and that the prince can choose whichever bride he wishes.
Prince Yamato 'Matt' Ishida: I thought that my father and the Grand Duke wanted more than anything for me to marry Princess Tara of Sonatania.
Captain Wisemon: Well, they did say to me that that would be the only solution if you don't find your mystery girl at tonight's ball. Besides, if she's as charming as you say, she may just be capable of changing their minds.
