She caught everyone's attention when she tripped into the meeting point. This tiny, little, girl with the long, long blue hair and big brown eyes. She is dainty, and sweet, and not all dangerous looking.
"Ano…" she stammered as she shyly stood up and brushed herself down, "I'm sorry I'm so late. I'm here from Cait Shelter. My name is Wendy. It's nice to meet you guys!"
"A girl?" Lyon said disbelievingly.
"A child?!" Gray and Lucy yelped, both shocked.
Natsu stared at her in confusion. "Wendy?" he repeated.
Wendy.
The name tickles at the edge of his memory.
He has a flash of a warm summer's day, the feel of being smothered in the middle of the night by warm bodies, the sound of laughter, the sweetest smile, and the sense of kinship…
The others bicker amongst them as Happy instantly, madly, falls in love with Charle and the Blue Pegasus playboys sweep Wendy of her feet and wait on her hand and foot. Natsu frowned at the sight as he tried to pin down why he felt so unsettled.
Tears that always won him over, a tug on his hand, the weight of her head on his shoulder, and the daisy chains they used to make for one another….
He crossed his arms and thought really hard. "Wendy…." He murmured as he tried to reach out to that lost memory and force it back. Yet it danced away from him before he could even grasp it.
"What is it Natsu?" Gray asked,
"I have a feeling that I've heard that name before," Natsu admitted. He closed his eyes and focused entirely on the name. Wendy, Wendy, Wendy, Wendy, over and over again. "Hmm…"
"Natsu-nii! Gajeel-nii!" she cried out as she chased after them. "Wait for me!"
The echo vanished as the memory slipped through his fingers lost forever in the dark blankness of his mind.
"Eh," he gave up as he turned to ace Gray. "Can't you remember for me?"
"NOT GONNA HAPPEN!"
