Here it is.
Gamelover41592 and NinjaFang1331 - thanks for the Reviews.
Not much to talk about so let's go.
Three days have passed since the White Fang incident Jaune has been involved in. After the green haired shaman who used a pendulum as his Over Soul took care of the escaping bullheads, everything somehow sorted itself out.
Team RWBY reunited, Blake finally gave in and accepted that the current White Fang wasn't the peaceful organization she knew it as and from what he heard from Ren and Nora, after another loud fight at Beacon the girls from team RWBY seemed to be doing perfectly fine.
Overall, everything at Beacon was going great at the moment. Which made him smile quite often the last few days as friends doing fine were always good news.
He was currently walking through the lesser known alleys of Vale searching for the exact location his second fight would take place in. He was trying to find it quite quickly as well because today was the day of his second match and he wouldn't want to lose a fight because he couldn't find the place where he was supposed to fight.
The night had already started and he was beginning to worry that he wouldn't be able to actually find the location described by the message on his Oracle Bell even if he still had about two hours left before his fight starts. Especially since every building around here looked almost exactly the same in the dark.
"What sort of description is 'The most inconspicuous warehouse at the southern edge of Vale'?! Why couldn't they just give us a precise address instead of this semi-mystical gibberish we got?" Summer loudly complained out of the boredom born from traveling through the edges of Vale without getting anything to show for it for the last few hours.
Normally he would have tried to calm down his guardian spirit a little or at least argue with her a little to not walk in silence the entire time but in this scenario he wholeheartedly agreed with her.
The last time they had a shaman fight the directions they got weren't that good either but at least back then the place they fought at was already known by Summer earlier so it wasn't too big of an issue.
Unfortunately right now that wasn't the case.
"Maybe, it's that one. It does look very inconspicuous to me." He said with a slightly tired voice while lazily pointing at one of the smallest warehouses that was surrounded by a bunch of the bigger ones.
Hearing him say that, Summer turned her head towards it, slightly tilted it to the side and thought about something for a short while before starting to fly towards it and saying. "Alright let's go see if it's that one. It's not like we have any better ideas at the moment."
Seeing that his guardian spirit already decided to go there, he quickly followed after her. There weren't many other directions they could be going in anyway.
It didn't take long for them to arrive right before the warehouse as the path towards it was neither long nor complex and they weren't exactly walking at the slow pace either.
From the outside the warehouse right before them didn't look any different than all of the building around it and if it wasn't in a completely distant place then Jaune and Summer would have most likely thought it was the exact same place they were fighting White Fang in a few days ago.
The only thing that stood out about it, aside from its smaller size compared to its neighbors, was the building's entrance because it looked unnaturally new compared to the rest of the warehouse. It looked so fresh that he wouldn't be surprised if it was because someone actually renovated it yesterday.
"Do you think this might be it?" He asked Summer after quietly inspecting the doors before him.
"We won't know unless we enter it." Summer said with a shrug before flying through the door and entering the warehouse making him quickly do the same.
Right after entering the building he discretely looked around to see if this warehouse could really be the arena for his second shamans fight as he doubted that the battles between shaman could take place in a full or too destroyed warehouse.
Thankfully the warehouse they were in was entirely empty and somewhat stable making the chances that they were at the correct place quite high.
Unfortunately they wouldn't be able to know for sure until at least one more person necessary for their shaman fight arrives here as well.
...
Two hours later...
...
After a short debate about whether staying at the warehouse was wise or not they decided to stay there and wait under the assumption that the Great Spirit wouldn't throw someone out of the tournament because of its unclear instructions.
Ignoring the fact that Jaune was sitting on a cold floor the entire time they were waiting here, awaiting for the judge and his opponent was actually quite comfortable and nice.
There was of course some nervousness because of the whole uncertainty related to their fight but after sitting in one place for about an hour even he got tired of being nervous so right now he was just peacefully laying against one of the building's walls. In fact he was so calm at the moment that Summer has already berated him a few times for being too relaxed.
He disagreed with her about him being too relaxed at the moment as he was merely too tired of the non stop tension from today's fight to worry on top of that but he didn't voice it because he understood that the situation must be completely different from Summer's perspective who as a ghost wasn't able to feel pain or tiredness from anything.
"Are you sure we shouldn't keep looking for some other place? What if the warehouse we were supposed to be at is right next to this one and we will just look like idiots because of being here?" Summer said in worry while flying in circles to relieve her nerves.
Despite often criticizing him for being terrible at social interaction, Summer seemed to be quite a nervous dork trying to fit into society herself. It was actually kinda funny to see his guardian spirit acting so different from the skilled and experienced huntress she was in his mind.
"Summer calm down. Even if we are in the wrong place at the moment, I'm sure that we will be informed of it and the correct location by the Oracle Bell right before our fight will start." He answered, trying to reassure Summer.
In reality he didn't have a clue whether they would be notified of being in the wrong place or not but the most important thing right now was to not panic as it would only make things worse if they truly were in a wrong place at the moment.
"Ughh... If you say so, although I still think that we should have at least waited outside of this building in case our fight were to be in one of the other warehouses nearby." Summer said with uncertainty still present in her voice.
"Don't worry this is the correct place because if it wasn't this warehouse then our judge would have to assess an empty building instead of our fight." A soft and calm voice reassured his guardian spirit from behind her.
"Ahh!" Summer screamed out of surprise before hastily flying to his side.
After Summer flew to his side and stopped blocking his view by doing so, he was finally able to see who was his opponent and after seeing who it was he grinned out of happiness.
Before him stood a young green haired boy wearing what could only be described as an old detective outfit and even though the boy's sleeves were covering his entire arms he knew that under one of these sleeves a pendulum was hidden. His opponent was the same shaman who destroyed the escaping bullhead three days ago.
"Nice to meet you again. Looks like we will be each-other's opponent tonight." Lyserg said with a small smile while extending one of his hands as a greeting.
Seeing that his opponent already extended his hand he didn't think long about exchanging greetings and quickly shook Lyserg's hand before standing up with a bit of the dowser's help.
"Again? I remember you from the recent White Fang incident but I don't think I left any lasting impression back then." He asked out of curiosity while stretching his arms as he didn't remember doing many attention worthy things back then.
In fact, aside from making one surprise attack on Roman Torchwick and helping Blake and Sun with some of the small fries from the White Fang, he didn't do that much three days ago.
"You didn't really make any but I saw your spirit acting as a scout a few times while helping team RWBY find their friend with my dowsing abilities." Lyserg said with a wry expression on his face.
That explained how the RWY of team RWBY were able to follow them no matter how or where they hid. Although it didn't really explain how the method they used worked making it an unimportant information for tonight's fight.
Does his Over Soul have the ability to track anyone based on only their name. He wondered while discretely observing his opponent only to find zero clues about that skill of his foe.
"Good to know that at least Summer was remarkable." He said with a sigh before slightly smiling and saying again. "You probably know my name already from the Oracle Bell but I still would feel bad if I didn't introduce myself."
"My name is Jaune Arc, a wandering shaman while the scout who was making your dowsing work harder is Summer Rose, my guardian spirit and an incredibly skilled huntress." He said while pointing at himself and Summer who was waving her hand before waiting for his opponents to introduce themselves.
"I guess since you introduced yourselves we should do it as well." Lyserg said with a small sigh before introducing himself.
"I'm Lyserg Diethel, a dowser from Atlas and my guardian spirit is Morphine, an ancestral guardian spirit of my entire family." His opponent said while a small fairy like spirit flew out of one of his pockets.
The small spirit waved her hand and flew in a cute way to greet them. She was small enough to fit on a person's hand or in a bigger pocket and her skin was almost entirely light pink wint only the ends turning into green.
Adorable. Both he and Summer thought after seeing the little spirit.
"It appears that both contestants are finally here!" A loud and unfamiliar voice quickly spread through the entire building getting the attention of everyone present.
Almost immediately after both of them heard that voice a person jumped out of the ceiling to land right between them. The person before him was a rather muscular, long haired man who was wearing tribal clothes and based on another set of ears seemed to be a wolf faunus on top of that. Around that man there were also five spirits of different animals who were all clinging to him.
"My name is Silva and I will be the judge of this fight. Since this is a second fight for both of you, we won't be going over the rules as you should already know them well by now." The man said in a calm manner before moving to the side with his spirits to allow them to prepare their Over Souls.
"So this time you will be my judge, mister." Lyserg said with some familiarity in his voice while watching their move away.
The response his opponent got from their judge was merely a silent nod of confirmation as Silva didn't even turn around to acknowledge Lyserg.
"Do you two know each other?" He asked with some confusion while silently signaling to Summer to turn into her spirit ball form so that they could form an Over Soul.
"He was the person responsible for my qualification test for the tournament. Apparently the judges for the fights are always the examiners of one of the combatants. " Lyserg answered with a small smile while quietly observing his previous examiner and creating his own Over Soul.
"Good to know." He said absentmindedly as he was focused on forming his Over Soul at the moment.
It didn't take long to form their Over Souls after their short conversation as they already did most of the preparation steps while talking so soon both of them were standing opposite to each other while being fully ready for a fight.
"It seems that both of you are ready. Although we still have about a minute until the scheduled time, I will start the countdown now." Silva said before reaching for a scroll in his pocket and pressing something on it.
"3"
Their Oracle Bells loudly beeped and showed the counter indicating that their fight was about to begin.
Seeing that the countdown had already started, Lyserg fully lifted one of his sleeves to make sure his pendulum wouldn't be obstructed or interrupted by the clothes. He also moved a bit backwards to make sure he had more room to dodge in case of a quick charge from his foe.
"2"
Jaune firmly grasped his spiritual halberd after a quick spin to get a better feel of it and leaned a bit forward to be ready for a dash. Familiar rose petals didn't begin falling from the ceiling as it wasn't the sky, making him worry a little about the fight for a moment.
The worries he had in his head quickly changed into plans and ideas on how to fight without his teleportation ability as the training Summer made for him ensured him that he was able to at least do something in scenarios like that.
"1"
Both Jaune and Lyserg tensed and prepared themselves for the first clash.
One of them was leaning forward for a quick charge at the opponent to make use of his short ranged weapon while the other was leaning backwards getting ready to widen the gap between them and dodge any frontal attacks.
"START"
A message with a loud noise from everyone's Oracle Bells began the fight and both of the combatants started with a dash.
Jaune dashed forward to keep a pressure on his opponent to get himself some time to think of a plan for the lack of his usual ability while his foe dashed away from him to make sure he wouldn't be able to do so.
Shortly after dashing away and realizing that he wouldn't stop his charge so easily Lyserg sent his pendulum directly at him forcing him to dodge to the side as the flying crystal was simply too fast to outrun it backwards.
Right after dodging he immediately noticed that his opponent's pendulum followed right after him by making an impossible ninety degree turn exactly the moment he dodged away.
Seeing that there was no point in dodging it that way he decided to try to block his opponent's attack. He knew it was capable of easily piercing through the thick metal of bullheads but he also knew that his halberd was strong enough to do it as well.
He turned his weapon sideways so that the wide side of the halberd's blade was facing the flying pendulum and after doing so he raised it slightly up to cover the part of his body that was most likely to be the target of Lyserg's attack.
The crystal part of the pendulum collided with the flat part of his halberd and the force generated from this exchange was huge enough to launch him backwards. He flew for at least a dozen of meters only to be stopped by the metal wall of the warehouse. The impact created from it was big enough to make his sized dent in the wall.
"Is that it?" Lyserg asked with clear surprise in his voice as he most likely didn't expect for his first attack he made to defend himself to be that effective.
"What do you mean by 'Is that it'? I'm still doing perfectly fine." Jaune said with a pained smile while standing up from the wall he was thrown into.
Right after doing so he stretched a little to see how badly that first attack injured him. Thankfully he didn't feel much pain while moving so the damage from the attack wasn't substantial or at least it wasn't immediately noticeable.
"You sure don't look fine." Lyserg said with a doubtful expression on his face before extending his hand forward and firing his pendulum once again, only this time he was entirely focused on offense.
Seeing that the pendulum was soaring at him, Jaune decided to rush forward to meet it in the middle of its flight.
He decided against holding his ground mostly because he knew that if he were to try blocking Lyserg's strike while standing in place then the pendulum would just turn and move a couple of times to catch him off guard from a direction he wasn't covering at the moment.
The images of a crystal pendulum piercing through multiple bullheads from dozens of different angles were occupying his mind as he was charging at it and thinking of a way to somehow counter or fight it. If they were fighting under the clear sky then he was sure he could easily avoid the pendulum completely but unfortunately for him it wasn't the case.
Not even five seconds have passed since Lyserg sent his pendulum out and Jaune already met it somewhere in the middle of the warehouse. This time instead of dodging to the side he chose to try knocking away.
It might have sounded like a terrible idea at first but he was doing it more as a test to see how his opponent's power works then to actually succeed in getting to hit them.
He planted his feet firmly on the ground, moved his torso slightly to the side to make sure that even if his strike didn't work he would be somewhat safe and swung his halberd upwards with all of his strength.
The pendulum flew all the way into the ceiling, the strength behind his upwards slash was huge enough that Lyserg couldn't stop it from flying away. His opponent might have been able to directly control the pendulum and make it turn at impossible angles but even the most skillful of shamans would struggle with directly opposing a force bigger than the one they controlled.
Seeing that the crystal part of the pendulum was now so high in the air that it pierced through the ceiling, Jaune grinned a little in satisfaction before realizing that he was wasting time and quickly rushing at his enemy.
The distance between him and Lyserg quickly began to shrink. What earlier was the length of a bit over the half of the warehouse soon became the distance of two-fifths of the warehouse's length and not long after that it turned into a quarter of the warehouse.
Noticing that Lyserg would soon be in his attack range, he began preparing his halberd for a quick strike to see if his opponent's Over Soul had any close range capabilities. He started to smile from confidence while approaching Lyserg for an attack only to stop himself in surprise after hearing a whooshing sound from above him.
Immediately after recognizing what that sound meant he instinctively jumped away. During his dodge, out of the corner of his eye he noticed a flying pendulum piercing the ground he stood on not a second ago at a rapid speed.
"I did not expect that attack." He said, thankful that he didn't get hit by it while landing on the ground before looking up to follow the wire of the pendulum with his sight.
Thanks to that wire he noticed that the pendulum passed through the ceiling in two separate points meaning that when he launched the pendulum flying into the air Lyserg didn't try retracting it into the device on his hand on purpose to be able to attack him from above.
It also made him wonder what exactly was the range of that wire as the ceiling of the warehouse was actually quite high and any ordinary pendulums, even the ones with the long wires, would have ran out of the range long before being able to reach the roof of this building let alone be able to come back.
His thoughts were quickly interrupted by the pendulum once again flying at him from the place he dodged it last time and Lyserg's calm voice.
"You shouldn't get distracted during the fight. Against me it will just cost you the win but against some of the other shamans you could have already lost your life."
Knowing that there wasn't really any point in dodging the crystal and that simply blocking it was not only tiring but also risky, he decided to launch it into the ceiling once again.
Meanwhile during the time Jaune was preparing to launch the pendulum into the ceiling and Lyserg was throwing his Over Soul at him their judge was watching all of it with his many animal spirits in a calm silence.
Silva wasn't really that invested in the fight the two young shamans were having. Sure, he paid attention to it and was prepared to intervene if something too dangerous were to happen or if any rules were about to be broken but none of the present combatants were at the level at which he could call them impressive or interesting to watch.
The judge of the shaman fight sighed a little in disappointment after seeing the pendulum of the contestant he chose fly through the ceiling once more. He wasn't sighing because he found the fight boring or considered the combatants to be worse than him simply because they were weak right now.
No, the reason he was disappointed was because of the fact that he expected a bit more from the opponent of his contestant.
"You know, after that scary bird lady from the Braven tribe bragged about finding one of the best contestants in the tournament, I expected that blond boy to at least do something to fight back and not only focus on the defense the entire time." The eagle spirit on his shoulder complained out of boredom after seeing the blond shaman launch the pendulum into the ceiling for the third time.
"Didn't she say something about him being able to relocate anywhere he wants at will? Why isn't he doing it right now?" The coyote spirit to his left agreed with the eagle while noticing that the green haired combatant didn't have to move from one place for almost the entire fight.
After recognizing that the state of the fight wasn't going to change any time soon and that it would most likely continue being this one sided stalemate with Lyserg on the offense for a while he decided to look away from it to explain to his spirits how exactly Jaune's Over Soul worked based on what Raven told him earlier.
"Jaune can't use his Over Soul's ability at the moment because the fight is happening inside of the building. When he activates his Over Soul rose petals start falling from the sky and his ability to teleport only allows him to teleport to one of those petals so if he were to use it now he would just teleport out of the building and forfeiting the match by running away."
His explanation shed some light on the confusion his spirits were having and based on their expression it also made them understand the current situation the blond shaman was in a bit better. The only exception to that seemed to be the turtle spirit of his who still looked a bit confused.
"Weird, I thought that the Great Spirit always chooses arenas that bring out the most potential out of the participants in the tournament. Why would the arena for a person with an Over Soul so reliant on the access to the sky be a closed building?" The turtle slowly asked while carefully observing the warehouse.
It was a good question, normally even if someone's Over Soul was extremely specific and could work only in a few scenarios the Great Spirit would always choose an arena where there was a way to actually use it. He even remembered overseeing a shaman fight where one of the combatants had to have the source of water near them not too long ago and it still happened near a lake.
He pondered a bit about the Great Spirit's choice only to be interrupted by a small ray of sunlight blinding him from above and a realization that came with it.
"Isn't it obvious?" He asked with a smirk before looking up to see dozens of holes in the roof separating a sizable part of it from the rest of the ceiling. "To bring out their full potential not only in strength but also in wisdom."
Not long after he said that a pendulum pierced through the ceiling one more time only to make the entire middle of the roof fall with it on its way back.
"Wha-?!" Lyserg shouted in surprise before quickly moving to the corner of the warehouse to make sure he wouldn't be hit by the falling steel.
Jaune, seeing that his improvised plan somehow worked, grinned widely in satisfaction before covering himself with the cloak from his Over Soul and disappearing right from under the falling debris of steel only to reappear right above them.
"Now, since my plan finally worked, let's start this fight for real." He said before disappearing from the battlefield once again.
Lyserg, who wasn't aware of the ability his opponent's Over Soul had reacted with surprise and bewilderment. He looked everywhere around him to see if Jaune was anywhere near him but he didn't see a thing.
A sudden sound of a falling heavy object from above him, made Lyserg look up to see Jaune falling directly at him with his halberd pointed down. The crystal part of his pendulum was too far for Morphine to interject his foe and change his falling path so he rolled away just as he was about to be hit dodging the attack by doing so.
"I had no idea you could do that. Was that surprise attack the reason you weren't using it earlier?" Lyserg said with a huff while observing the rose petals slowly falling into the warehouse from the hole in the ceiling Jaune made him create.
"Not really. There simply wasn't a way for me to do so earlier." Jaune said with a small and embarrassed smile while scratching the back of his head.
After saying that, he grinned a little in confidence before rushing at Lyserg with his Over Soul ready to be used. Now that he could finally use his Over Soul's ability, he wasn't worried about most of Lyserg's attacks.
Lyserg knowing that he had to do something to stop Jaune from attacking him decided against retracting his pendulum to the device and instead he chose to use his Over Soul to strike his opponent from behind.
Unluckily for Lyserg, Jaune was already prepared for an attack from behind so the moment he saw the wire of the pendulum moving he covered himself in the cloak from his halberd and disappeared from Lyserg sight by relocating behind him.
Silver bladed halberd was swung downwards by Jaune only to barely miss his opponent who dodged at the last second and clashed with the returning pendulum that was supposed to strike him from behind earlier.
The force generated from the clash between his and Lyserg's weapons paired with his lack of balance at the moment of the attack were enough to easily send him flying backwards but he didn't consider it to be a big issue as he just used his Over Soul to teleport away while still in the air to negate the fall and make sure he wouldn't be hit by the pendulum flying at him.
He once again reappeared near Lyserg with his weapon already in the middle of a swing. The force from the previous exchange still carried him forward making the strike noticeably faster and stronger.
Lyserg, who was on the receiving end of that attack, knew he wouldn't be able to dodge this attack even before Jaune vanished in the flurry of petals after clashing with his pendulum as he knew he wouldn't be able to regain good footing for another dodge so he tried to use his wire as a provisional shield from his opponent's attacks.
The green haired dowser ducked under the two wire paths his Over Soul left during the exchange that just happened and put it between him and his opponent.
The silver halberd met the wire, the strength behind Jaune's Over Soul made the wire stretch and bend but even with all of the power the halberd had it still was stopped by the wire right before Lyserg's body after stretching it for half of a meter.
"That was a close one." Lyserg said with a huff of relief before jumping away and commanding his pendulum to target his opponent once again.
Jaune stood still and looked at the wire that just stopped his Over Soul in surprise. He knew the power of the halberd he was holding. It was strong enough to cut through solid steel as easily as common weapons would cut through wheat so it being stopped by an ordinary wire should be impossible.
The wire must also be a part of his Over Soul. He thought to himself while observing the pendulum flying at him from a slightly higher position than he was at now.
He jumped out of the pendulum's way right as it was about to hit him and when he saw it pierce the floor with the wire still moving forward he used his Over Soul to teleport himself next to his opponent.
The fight from that point quickly turned into a peculiar standstill where he would always teleport right next to his opponent for an attack and Lyserg would always try to dodge, duck under or stop his strikes using the wire while commanding his pendulum to pierce through him which would never actually succeed as he was consistently able to disappear out of the harm's way anyway.
Of course his foe wouldn't be always successful in his attempts at dodging his attacks and soon wounds and tiredness became clearly noticeable on Lyserg's body.
Their battle went like that for at least fifteen minutes and almost the entire time he was wondering why Lyserg was even trying to hit him with the pendulum like that. He was sure that if his opponent were to retract his Over Soul and try to strike him just at the right moment similar to how Ren was fighting during his previous fight then he would have a harder time dodging these attacks.
When he reappeared for yet another time he once again wanted to slash at the green haired dowser but a quick look at the area around Lyserg made him realize that it wouldn't be so easy anymore.
The pendulum's wire was everywhere around them. It pierced and connected the warehouse at countless different points creating a building sized cobweb made out of the spiritually enhanced wire.
While he was busy chasing after Lyserg to get at least one good hit in, his opponent was slowly forming an arena where he not only would always be safe but he would also be capable of ending the fight whenever he wanted.
Jaune didn't even want to imagine what would happen to him if Lyserg were to launch his pendulum forward out of the arena knitting all of these threads together. He would be either crushed or sliced apart or maybe even both.
"So you finally noticed?" Lyserg said after noticing the surprise and slight fear on Jaune's face.
"Did you plan to create this cobweb from the very beginning of the fight?" He asked while looking around and comprehending the sheer amount of the wire around them.
"No, it was a complete improvisation on my part. I have a couple of really powerful attacks in my arsenal but considering your ability, I doubt that I would be able to actually hit you with most of them." Lyserg answered with a tired smile before slightly moving his hand to order his pendulum to attack him.
Hearing the attack flying at him from behind, Jaune instinctively jumped out of it's way to land behind it.
After fighting against Lyserg for the last twenty minutes he already had some idea what the speed and turning angles of the flying pendulum were so he dodged in a way that he knew would be safe.
He didn't want to use his Over Soul to teleport away because the number of places he could reappear at and his Furyoku units were slowly decreasing. Dodging his opponent's attack without using his ability to disappear might not have been the safest choice but it was the most cost efficient.
The confidence in his knowledge about Lyserg's limits together with his wariness of wasting Furyoku could have easily make him lose the match though as right before he landed on the ground after dodging he noticed the crystal part of pendulum pointing directly at him again by wrapping around one of the wire threads present in the room.
"W-What?!" He shouted out of surprise before moving his halberd to guard himself from at least some of the damage.
The pendulum collided with his weapon sending him flying. Normally it wouldn't have been too big of an issue as he was thrown into a wall in a similar situation in this fight already but the close-knit wire that was present here now would have made such flight way more dangerous.
Knowing that he didn't want to be cut apart by the huge amounts of wire he was flying at now, Jaune immediately wrapped himself in the white cloak of his halberd to vanish from his current position.
Just like he knew the basic limits of Lyserg's Over Soul, Lyserg knew the ground rules of his Over Soul as well so the moment he covered himself in the cloak Lyserg instantly began looking around to find the place he would most likely reappear at.
There weren't many safe places left that he could teleport to and Lyserg was aware of that and because of it his opponent ordered his pendulum to fly at the largest fragment of the floor without any wire surrounding it before he could even reappear to catch him off-guard and win the fight.
Unfortunately for his opponent he didn't plan on reappearing in a free space this time.
The green dowser shook a little in surprise after feeling a slight and unexpected pressure on his pendulum. He reflexively looked at the entire wire to check if something wasn't blocking it at some place but the thing he saw startled him even more.
Jaune was hanging with one of his feet on one of the threads of wire directly above Lyserg and looked as if he was about to strike him down with a falling attack.
The blond shaman dived at Lyserg with all of his force making the green dowser immediately react with fright. The wire cobweb he created might have been a perfect way to corner Jaune and protect himself from ordinary attacks but it also make him a highly stationary target if his opponent were to find a way to actually get to him.
Lyserg saw his foe falling. He knew Morphine wouldn't arrive to protect him in time.
He quickly glanced to his left to see that there weren't any easy paths to move through.
He then looked right only to witness an impenetrable cobweb made out of wire.
The sight before him wasn't pleasant either so he took a step back in a hurry only to realize that he was able to do it without anything blocking him and rolled to the back right after.
Jaune missed and clicked his tongue in annoyance after doing so. He really hoped to end the fight with that last attack as he was already running dry on Furyoku and stamina. Judging from how tired he was, he should be able to use his Over Soul's ability for at most three times and it was only without counting the effort he would have to go through to actually land a hit in the meantime.
He looked to the side to see a pendulum flying at him. Even if he had only three teleport left he would have to waste one right now as he wouldn't be able successfully dodge the attack in the position he was in now.
He gritted his teeth and made a quick yet precise movement with his arms to cover himself with the cloak from his halberd. Rose petals gathered around him engulfing his entire body and making him vanish from the place he was at just a second ago.
One of the most significant flaws his Over Soul had that didn't seem like a big issue at first glance was the fact that he had to decide on a place he wanted to appear at before disappearing and he couldn't do it while or after vanishing meaning that once he was gone the place he would end up was set in stone.
In most of the normal fights it wouldn't have been a huge issue as just the traveling speed he got from his ability would be enough to overwhelm most of the usual opponent but when he was fighting against someone who was already used to his ability and he had only a few of available places to chose, every single activation of his ability became a gamble.
He didn't know if the place he would appear at would be a trap or maybe even a target for an already flying attack. The only thing he could do was hope that his foe wouldn't guess correctly.
In the warehouse there were effectively four places he could theoretically teleport to.
Two of the them were in the middle of the air, right under the ceiling and in a rather large gap between the wires, one of them was on the ground in the southwest corner of the warehouse and the last one was on one of the wires where he wouldn't be able to to hang on it like he did before and would have to stand on it instead.
He chose the last option hoping that his opponent didn't notice it as it would allow him to get a surprise attack on Lyserg and maybe even win the fight with it.
Unfortunately for him the first thing he saw after reappearing was a crystal part of a spiritually enhanced pendulum pointing directly at him just before his head.
"Yield!" Lyserg loudly commanded while holding the hand his pendulum was strapped to.
He didn't answer his opponent's order immediately as he chose to subtly look around and assess the situation.
If he were to suddenly try to use his Over Soul then he could have most likely managed to teleport away but he would have to finish the fight right after doing so because he wouldn't have enough Furyoku left to do anything if he were to teleport more than once.
Lyserg was surrounded by the wire at the moment, making any attacks he could make extremely risky. It also meant that there sadly wasn't a location he could reappear at that was close to his opponent.
It was a close fight and I did my best. Besides, there is still one more fight that I can win later. He thought to himself with a tired sigh before slowly releasing his Over Soul. There wasn't much he could do at the moment to win that fight.
"I surrender." He calmly said while casually raising one of his hands up after his Over Soul dissipated.
Their judge after hearing his surrender quietly looked up and stared at him in silence for a few seconds before taking one step forward and loudly saying with a clear voice. "Because of one contestant surrendering, the winner of the match between Lyserg Diethel and Jaune Arc is Lyserg Diethel!"
Soon after Silva's voice echoed through the building a beeping sound came out of his pocket and he didn't need to check his Oracle Bell to know what it meant.
"SECOND FIGHT: JAUNE ARC VS LYSERG DIETHEL"
"WINNER: LYSERG DIETHEL"
The message from his Oracle Bell wasn't the only thing that followed the announcement of his loss as the moment relaxed a little and was about to ask Lyserg if he could help him get down from the wire he noticed that the wire he was standing on suddenly wasn't as sturdy as it was just a second ago.
A loud crashing sound resounded through the entire warehouse as he painfully fell to the floor at the speed the gravity accelerated him to in the time of his fall.
"Ouch! Why would you do that!? I know that you won the fight and all of that but you could have at least shown some respect!" He shouted in annoyance because of the pain from the fall.
"Sorry. I would have happily helped you but I ran out of Furyoku and the range on my wire." Lyserg politely said with a small laugh.
"That's still not the reason to-" He was about to argue further but he stopped himself after realizing something. "Wait! Did You just say that you ran out of Furyoku and wire? Why did I give up then? I could have won this fight! You deceived me."
"I still won though." Lyserg said with a small grin, happy that he managed to get his second win already.
Hearing their post-fight conversation, Silva smiled a little as it was always nice to see the contestants not being hostile towards each other after their fight. It proved that despite the tournament being a tense competition there still was a place for respect and kindness in it.
It was a closer fight than I expected based on the first part of it though. If it happened at an open field then I'm sure the winner wouldn't be Lyserg. Silva thought to himself before glancing at his Oracle Bell to check the Furyoku meters of both combatants.
"LYSERG DIETHEL 0/350 : JAUNE ARC 23/421"
Sorry Jaune but sometimes you have to take that L.
The amount of wire Lyserg has to have to do what he did, seemed like a ridiculous amount at first but then I remembered that in the first time we met him in the Shaman King anime and manga he makes the entire copy of The Big Ben to attack someone with it so I think it should be enough to do what he did in this chapter.
Sidenote: The amount of Furyoku I chose for Lyserg to have is his original Furyoku from at the beggining of the anime divided by ten because 3500 would have been way too much for the first arc of the story and 350 somewhat fit the amounts other have here or had at the start of Shaman King (Yoh had 270 and Ren had 350).
See ya.
