Link was able to get some sleep. He ended up falling asleep in the chair next to Zelda's bed, holding her hand in his, her presence able to drown out all the worries in his mind. When he awoke, he found a familiar Zora leering at him, her arms folded.

"While your concern is appreciated, I believe I told you I'd take care of the Princess." Lera said factually. "And that you should get some rest yourself. I can only imagine how uncomfortable it was sleeping in that chair."

Link leaned forward, rubbing his stiff neck. "Sorry Lera." He apologized. "I couldn't sleep last night. And well… I think I'll let Zelda explain the rest."

"Oh?" Lera said, her face curious, "Well I suppose I can wait until she wakes up."

"Thanks Lera." He rose and grabbed his clothes, which were dry now. "I need to go talk with Mipha actually. Do you know where she is?"

Lera shrugged. "Probably with Prince Sidon. The young prince is in much better shape than Princess Zelda, however I think the whole ordeal traumatized him. I gave him some calming herbs, but he's been very reserved and quiet. He probably just needs time."

"Yeah." Link scratched the back of his head. "He probably is. Actually it works out if Mipha is with him. I can say visit Sidon too."

"He'd like that." Lera smiled, "He admires you, Link."

Link blushed. He wasn't used to having people look up to him. "I'll stop by later." Lera nodded in confirmation, and then Link was off, making his way towards the royal quarters. It didn't take him long to find it and he noticed Mipha right away. Knocking, Mipha looked up at him. She motioned for him to enter and Link saw Sidon resting in a bed next to her.

"How is he?" Link asked, his eyes taking in the sleeping Zora.

"Tired. Frightened." Mipha replied.

"That's understandable." Link said, scratching his head. He sighed, deciding to cut to the chase. "I talked to Zelda. She told me what happened."

Mipha straightened and she looked down. "I-" She fell quiet, uncertain of what to say.

"I know it's a lot to ask of someone, Mipha. But we need you. All of Hyrule needs you."

Mipha sighed. "I know that, Link. But father… he would never allow such a thing. Especially what happened to Sidon. He is very protective of us."

"Perhaps I could talk to him." Link offered. "It is dangerous, but I believe together we can defeat Calamity Ganon. But we need all of us to do so."

Mipha rubbed her arms nervously, "You would do that? I do wish to help… I just don't feel I'm the right person for the job."

"Hylia chose you." Link replied. "Just like she chose me and Zelda and the other champions."

Mipha didn't look convinced. "I'm not a healer."

Link shrugged, "I'm not a hero. Yet that seems to be my role."

Mipha shook her head. "Oh, but Link, you are a hero. You've dedicated your life to saving people and Hyrule."

Link sighed, "So have many others. I don't think I'm particularly special. I'm just good at wielding a sword and killing enemies, whether they be monsters or people."

"Link…." Mipha whispered.

"Will you help us Mipha?" Link asked, his voice serious. "We need you. All of Hyrule needs you."

Mipha closed her eyes, a thousand thoughts running through them. She knew what she had to do, and in her heart she wanted to: she wanted to protect and save her people as well as the other clans of Hyrule. She opened her eyes to meet Link's. "I accept Link. I will be the Zora Champion."

Link beamed. "Great. Now, I suppose we need to talk with your father."

Mipha frowned, "Yes, that will be the hard part convincing him."

"He's reasonable. He will understand." Link assured although he wasn't looking forward to discussing this with the king. But he knew he had too. After everything Zelda had done, he could do this.

"Let's go." Link nodded resolutely.

I opened my eyes, my body sore, but also refreshed at the same time.

"You're finally awake." Came a voice, and I turned to see Lera mixing together some herbs at a desk close by.

"Lera." I said. "What time is it?"

"Almost noon." She replied and then set down what she was working on. "Link mentioned you wished to speak with me."

"Yes." I said, surprised at how direct she was. "I haven't been completely truthful with you, Lera." I started. "You see, I was told by Hylia to find four champions, however she did not tell me who they were. It's been a bit of a guessing game."

Lera took what I said in calmly, patiently allowing me to explain. "Do you think it's someone else besides me?" She asked neutrally.

"Well…." I trailed off, feeling guilty for some reason. "These champions, I am supposed to give them a specific power. And last night, Mipha came to visit me…. And I gave her the Zora Champion's power." I gulped, "Mipha is the Zora Champion."

There was a pregnant pause, my body tense as I awaited Lera's reaction. Finally, "I see." She said calmly and then gave a soft smile, "I think the Princess is far more worthy of the champion title than I."

"Don't say that, Lera." I protested, but she held up a hand to stop me.

"To be honest, I wasn't sure I was really cut out to be this Champion. I was nervous. But then I thought, I would still be a healer, I would just be taking care of all the clans, not just the Zora. And that gave me peace of mind. I'm not a fighter. And even though the Zora Champion is a healer, I think all the champions will have to fight at some point. Princess Mipha is strong and kind." Lera gave me a pointed look at this, "You are strong too, but you're far too reckless. Perhaps you can learn something from Princess Mipha."

I nodded, knowing Mipha was indeed the ideal Princess. I had become far too obsessed with showing the world I was strong and capable, perhaps to a detriment. Sometimes I wondered how I would have turned out if I didn't have the pressure of the throne and this power upon me.

"You are right." I agreed with Lera. "Perhaps I can learn something from Mipha."

Lera smiled, "Even so, your recklessness did save our Prince. For that I am grateful. I wish you, Link, and Princess Mipha the best of luck." She dipped her head. "Of course if you ever need me, I will be happy to assist."

"Thanks Lera. I'm glad to have your support."

Lera nodded at me. "Now then, I have other things to attend to today. So let me quickly rebandage your wounds. And I have some medicine for you as well."

"Oh!" I said, startled at how quickly she changed gears. "Well you see the thing is…" I quickly relayed how Mipha had healed my injuries and in shock, Lera quickly inspected me, finding it to be true.

"Astounding." Lera whispered. "Truly."

"Does that mean I am free to leave the infirmary?" I asked abashedly.

Lera chuckled amusedly, "I'm going to have you on bedrest until tomorrow. I'll have you take energy-revitalizing herbs as well - I'm sure your body is still tired."

"That's true." My body still felt weak.

"Well, you better rest up then, Zelda."

Link walked into the throne room, Mipha with him. King Dorephan sat on his throne as usual, however his face looked tight with worry. His eyes shifted to Link and Mipha as they entered. "Is Sidon alright?" He asked, his thoughts instantly going to his son.

"Sidon is fine, Father." Mipha assured. "I had something else I wished to discuss with you." Mipha sent Link a quick look, needing backup. Link gave her a nod and a light smile. They had gone over what they would say to the king on the way here.

"Yes?" King Dorephan asked, curious why his daughter seemed so nervous as well as why Link was with her. What could the two of them have to tell him… unless… "Did something happen to Princess Zelda?" Fear for his old friend's daughter filled him.

"No!" Mipha exclaimed, "Well not exactly…" Mipha sighed and then began to explain to her father what had happened the night before: how she had visited Zelda and had been giving a strange yet miraculous power. "So you see Father, I am the Zora Champion."

Mipha and Link waited in stunned silence for the king's response. Both were tense, fearing the King's anger and unwillingness to cooperate.

The King frowned, "The Zora Champion?" He muttered and then sighed. "How can this be?" He shook his head, his eyes turning melancholy. "Mipha…."

Mipha took a step towards her father, her chin high. "I know it's dangerous, Father, but I cannot ignore this. Hyrule needs me and this power I have now."

King Dorephan met her daughter's gaze. He let out a long exhale. "Despite my reluctance, you are right. But Mipha, you must promise me you'll be careful. I shall have some of our finest soldiers accompany you at all times."

Mipha nodded, happy that she had convinced her father, "Of course." She replied, completely fine with her father's demands.

"I will look out for Mipha too." Link spoke up, bowing his head.

King Dorephan studied the Hyrulian knight, "I appreciate that Link. I know Mipha will be in good hands. But remember, Princess Zelda is your first priority. She needs someone like you to temper her. Her mother was strong-willed as well, however reason was a close friend of the Queens, whereas her daughter seems to favor recklessness and danger."

"But Father," Mipha protested, "Zelda saved Sidon."

"Yes." King Dorephan agreed, "And I will forever be grateful, however she could have equally ended up getting both herself and Sidon killed. Do you know how that would have looked if I had to tell King Rhoam his daughter perished while in my Domain?"

Mipha looked away. Dorephan rubbed his forehead, "Do not get me wrong. I care for Princess Zelda and am glad she is safe, however she has much to learn before taking the throne. In that regard, so do you Mipha. Perhaps I have sheltered you too much."

Mipha merely nodded, both her and Link uncertain what to say.

"You may both go now." King Dorephan dismissed them, clearly having said his peace.

With that Mipha and Link left the King's presence, not exactly sure how they should feel. Both were relieved he had agreed to Mipha becoming the Zora Champion, but they also felt as if they had been lectured. They stopped at the bottom of the stairs, about to part ways, but uncertain what to say.

"The rain is letting up." Mipha mumbled the first thing that popped into her brain.

"It is." Link said, putting his hand out to catch a few raindrops.

"Hopefully you can still take a tour of Zora's Domain." Mipha replied, "The reservoir really is something to behold. I think Zelda would like it."

"She probably would." Link agreed.

"What will you do now?"

Link shrugged, "I'm kind of tired, so I think I'll go back to the inn and take a nap. You?"

"I need to look after Sidon."

Link nodded. "Well, I'm sure I'll see you around Mipha. Maybe before we leave, you and I can get a sparring match in." He recalled what Zelda had said to him.

Mipha smiled, "I'd like that."

A day came and went and I found myself in the throne room looking up at King Dorephan seated on his throne. "You wished to speak with me." I said, curious as to why Dorephan had called upon me.

"Yes, Zelda." His eyes analyzed me, "You look well."

"Yes. I feel much better." I replied. Having rested for an entire day, my body recovered much of its strength. Link had stopped by briefly yesterday to inform me that Mipha and the King and agreed to Mipha being the Zora Champion, so I knew I didn't have to explain anything to the King. "Thanks to Mipha."

Dorephan smiled, "I have no doubt she will make a fine champion. Although I do pray she stays safe and uses good judgment."

"Mipha seems the type to think things through." I stated, recalling the little I knew about the Zora Princess.

"Yes, she is." Dorephan said and then gave a pointed look to me, "However I cannot say the same about you, Zelda."

My eyes widened in surprise at his blunt words. "King Dorephan?" I said, not sure what to say.

The giant Zora sighed, "As you are the only child of my dearest friend, I feel I need to instruct you with some parental discipline. Especially since your father can't. But you acted quite brazenly the other day. I am very grateful for what you did for my son, but you need to show more thought and consideration in your actions. You could have gotten yourself killed along with Sidon."

I swallowed, not expecting the stern reprimanding. "I realize that, King Dorephan."

"You realize that now, but did it even cross your mind before you acted?" I stared at him in silence, not really sure what I had been thinking beforehand. "Well that's answer enough." He huffed, his eyes disapproving. "I do not mean to be harsh, Zelda, but you need to learn that as the future Queen of Hyrule, many people depend on you. If something where to happen, it's more than just your life that would be lost…. The future Queen would be lost and with Calamity Ganon's return, would we even be able to win without you?"

None of that had crossed my mind before. "You are strong Zelda. So is Link. And my daughter, Mipha. But there are many kinds of strength." He gave me a sympathetic look, "Your strength is that of a child, boasting about with all this self-bravado."

I flinched at his words.

"You can fight. You are studious. You are well-learnt. You are diplomatic. But so are all others born into the nobility. You put so much emphasis on proving to others how strong and great you are and not enough on just being the Queen you were born to be."

I stared at King Dorephan, dumbfounded and stung. "I…" I stopped completely at a loss for words.

"Zelda, your mother was a dear friend of mine. I can only imagine how her passing must have affected you. Thus, I am not saying any of this to be cruel, but I am saying it out of concern and perhaps trying to instill upon you some advice." Dorephan sighed, his countenance suddenly wary. "Do you remember much about your mother?"

I shook my head, "No."

"Yes, I would imagine. You were so young when you lost her... Would you like me to tell you about her?" He offered hesitantly.

Before I realized it I gave a quick nod and uttered, "Yes."

Dorephan gave me a sad smile. "As I'm sure you are aware, in terms of looks you are almost a spitting image of her. If I didn't know better, I'd say the Queen was right before me. Beyond that, your mother was strong and wise. She was an excellent martial artist, as are all who contain the Blood of the Goddess. No one matched her in skill and technique. Yet she was wise and studious, training her mind as well as her body. She fostered great relationships with the other clans and brought about peace for all of her short reign. Her powers were not very strong however. Still, this did not deter her, for she capitalized upon her other strengths: her cunning and intelligence. She was a just and kind Queen."

A dull ache started in my chest upon hearing about my mother. "Do you know how my mother awakened her powers?"

"Ah, yes, I can imagine you'd be curious. News has even traveled to my Domain about your dormant powers." Dorephan replied, "Your mother trained relentlessly at awakening her powers, focusing on training both her body and mind as has been done for generations. She was probably a few years younger than you when she was finally able to use her powers. Although I do not know the whole story as the Queen and I became friends years later, she told me after a weeks worth of training, both physically and mentally, she awoke one day and felt this new strength within her: her sage powers. Although according to your mother, how you receive your powers is different for everyone; her mother, your grandmother, awakened her powers when she needed them the most - a life or death situation I was told. And her mother before that, was born with her powers already unlocked." Dorephan locked eyes with me, "I'm not sure if that helps any, Zelda. But you should know, your strength as well as your worth should not come from these Sage powers you contain in your blood. Your strength comes from within. As for your worth, you already are worthy. You don't have anything to prove, you simply must continue to grow and improve."

I stared at Dorephan, not sure how I should feel. He had thrown so much at me, from reprimanding me, to talking about my mother, to encouraging me. "I… have never felt worthy, King Dorephan." I said, looking at my feet. "I've always felt like I have to prove something. Everyone seems to doubt me."

Dorephan did not reply right away. "There are many who doubt, Zelda. But there are also many who believe. The champions who follow you believe in you. I believe in you. That knight of yours believes in you. And your mother believes in you. Naysayers will always be there; as rulers we cannot please everyone. But your worth is not determined by the people. Neither is your strength. You must determine that for yourself Zelda. Believe in yourself."

I swallowed, pressure building behind my eyes. "You make it sound so easy."

Dorephan gave a hearty laugh. "Oh trust me, I know it is no easy task." He sighed, "Let me tell you something, Zelda. I am telling all of you this not only because I wish to help my dearest friend's child, but also because you remind me of myself when I was a young Zora. I had something to prove as well. My father before me was one of the greatest rulers in Zora history. To live up to his example, well I doubt even now I've accomplished that. And that's ok. I have carved a new path for myself. Not as grand and noble as my father, but I believe I have led my people well. But it took some hard lessons before I became King to shed that old mentality of trying to prove myself and putting on this fake sense of strength and confidence. It takes time, so start small. And know you don't have to go it alone."

Blinking back tears, I clasped my hands together, feeling humbled. "I will try. I'm not really sure where to even start though."

Dorephan smiled, "The first step is always the hardest they say. Perhaps work on that reckless nature of yours. And reflect on what strength means to you. Those may be some good starting points."

"I see." I replied, mulling over his suggestions. I bit my lip, the words I wanted to say stuck in the back of my throat. "King Dorephan…." I started, "How do I find… my own worth? For most of my life I've been thought of as a failure and incompetent. And because of that, I've viewed myself as nothing but a burden to others."

Dorephan frowned, "Zelda, I can assure you that you are quite competent. There are many things you excel at. And everyone has failed at some point in their lives. Repeatedly in fact. But that doesn't make you a failure. Look at how much you've accomplished. Even the small things. We all face setbacks, so focus on how far you have come and keep working towards where you need to go. Besides, who would ever call someone as accomplished as you, a failure?"

"My father." I bit out. "And I'm sure most people at the castle think so as well. All they care about is if I awaken my powers."

Dorephan narrowed his eyes, "King Rhoam… That does explain some things." Dorephan sighed. "I am truly sorry you had to grow up in such an environment, Zelda. But they are wrong and shortsighted. Yes, your powers are important, but they are not what defines you. Keep working at it, and you will succeed. I truly believe that. And I do not mean to speak ill of King Rhoam, for he is a decent King. But he is a lousy father. Children do not learn and grow from negativity. And to call his own daughter a failure…" Dorephan shook his head, "Deplorable."

Dorephan's words comforted me. They gave me much to think about, but while some of what he said did hurt me, I knew it was for my own benefit. "Mipha is lucky to have a father like you." I said, feeling a pang of jealousy. I wished I could have had such a caring father.

Dorephan chuckled, "Lucky? Zelda, I'm just doing my job as a parent. I feel I am the lucky one for having such brilliant children as Mipha and Sidon. Mipha will make a wonderful queen, although she still has some things to learn." Dorephan gave me a pointed look, "I do hope you and Mipha can become good friends. I think it would be good for both of you as you can each learn something from the other."

I nodded, "I would like that."

"Perfect. Then how about that tour I was planning? The two of you can get to know each other better. The weather is starting to clear up, so I can put together a small group of warriors to escort you while Mipha shows you around."

"That sounds nice. I would like to see more of Lanayru." I agreed.

"Then it's settled. I'm sure you are still recovering, so how about in two days time?"

"That would be lovely."

With that I bid King Dorephan goodbye. I walked back to the medic area so Lera could check me over once more and then I was free to go. I returned to the inn and pulled out a shirt to exchange for the white one the Lera had given me. Link was out training with the Zora, so I spent my time journaling. I ended up falling asleep as well and once awake I decided to go for a walk.

The rain had finally stopped, and although still cloudy, dim rays of sunshine poked through holes here and there. The water below looked calmer as well, and the waterfall was visible once again, not drowned out by the reservoir waters. I walked along the bridge, stopping when I saw Mipha leaning against it, looking down at the water.

"Mipha?" I called, walking up next to her.

She turned to me with startled eyes, clearly lost in thought. "Oh, Zelda."

"Are you alright?" I asked.

She nodded, "Yes, just thinking…" She trailed off, her eyes looking down at her hands. As she lifted her hand up, I noticed a faint white mark on the back of her hand. It was in the shape of an elephant.

"That mark." I whispered.

"Yeah, it slowly started to appear since you gave me my powers. Although I'm not sure why it's an elephant."

"I actually have no idea either." I stated, now wondering why each power seemed to be tied to a random animal, "But it seems each power is related to some kind of animal. Daruk and Urbosa also have imprints like that on the back of their hands. Urbosa a camel and Daruk a lizard."

"A camel and a lizard?" Mipha smiled, "Seems like we're a wild animal exhibit."

"Yeah, it is weird." I furrowed my brows, "I don't recall Revali having a mark though."

"Maybe his didn't appear until you left?" Mipha offered. "My mark is still very faint. How long did it take for Urbosa and Daruk's marks to appear?"

"Instantly." I answered. "It was as if their marks were scorched into their skin as soon as they received their power. I wonder why you and Revali are different."

"Maybe it's the nature of our powers?" Mipha suggested.

"Maybe…" I mumbled, digesting her suggestion. "That seems to make sense. The Powers of Fire and Lightning I would imagine are more violent than Wind and Healing."

"Ha, don't tell the Rito that. The wind can be just as fierce." Mipha laughed. "I think fire and lightning are fast, so they etched their marks immediately. While the wind and healing are slower, so our marks appear slowly."

"Huh, that's a good idea." I said, "I guess I'll find out about his mark next time I see Revali."

Mipha and I feel silent for awhile, lost in our own thoughts. Finally, Mipha said, "You talked to my father."

I nodded, "Yes. He was very… insightful."

Mipha gave a slight giggle. "Meaning he admonished you."

I paused for a moment, "Yes."

"That sounds just like him." Mipha replied, a soft smile upon her face, "He can be quite stern, but he does care: for my brother and I, his people, and you, Zelda."

"I could tell." I said, not sure how much to share with Mipha. But something compelled me to continue, "Although some of his words did sting, it seemed almost fatherly, what he said."

"When you're as old as him, everyone probably seems like a child to you... well almost everyone." Mipha explained, "And I imagine he wants to help you because your mother was a close friend to my father."

"Yes, I imagine so. He made it clear I still have much to work on." I sighed and placed my head in my hands as I leaned against the railing. "Perhaps my entire approach to everything has been wrong."

"I wouldn't say that, Zelda." Mipha replied. "In fact, I somewhat envy you."

I stared at Mipha, eyes wide. "You do?" I uttered, feeling as if I should be the one to envy her.

Mipha nodded, "You're so decisive. You can think of a plan in seconds and take control of a situation as if it were natural. When Sidon fell in to Lake Ruto, I had no idea what to do. I panicked. But you… you took control and came up with a plan easily."

"I wouldn't say my plan was the best though. In fact, I need to be more reasonable and careful in my plans. I think I envy you in that regard." I stated, "You take such care and consideration. Even if I can think of a plan fast, there are lots of flaws in them, which can easily unravel and result in someone getting hurt or death."

"Then perhaps we can learn from each other." Mipha offered, meeting my gaze.

I nodded and extended my hand towards her. "I'd like that."

Mipha clasped my palm with hers. We shook hands, an understanding passing through us. Releasing our hands, Mipha said, "My father tells me I'll be showing you around Lanayru once you've recovered more."

"Yeah, I agreed I'd like to see more of your land, however if you're busy we don't have to." I replied.

Mipha shook her head. "I'd like to get out of the city for awhile. And it will be nice to spend more time with you and Link."

I looked up at the darkening sky. Link would probably be back soon from his training. "I think we all would appreciate a peaceful sight-seeing adventure. I've had enough near-death experiences on this journey to last me a lifetime."

Mipha's eyes widened. "Really?"

"Yeah." I laughed, "I wouldn't mind a little break. But as soon as I'm back at the castle, there's a million things to put in order."

"Then let's plan something for when this is all over." Mipha said, a determined light shining in her, "When Calamity Ganon is defeated, let's all go somewhere nice to relax and just waste the day."

"That sounds absolutely wonderful." I agreed. "Let's do that. Somewhere peaceful… like Lurelin Village."

We both smiled. "Until then, let's work hard." Mipha said. I nodded, the thought of making plans for after Calamity Ganon was defeated made me happy. As if it wasn't impossible, that together we would find a way.

As the sun set, Mipha and I walked along the bridge, back into the city. Once at the entrance, Mipha turned to me and asked, "Zelda, would you like to have dinner with my brother and I? I know he would like to see you. He probably would like to hear about some of your adventures through Hyrule too."

I nodded, "I'd love to." With that, Mipha and I made our way back to her place, which was much grander and bigger than the other establishments in Zora's Domain.

Sidon greeted Mipha when she walked through the door, burying his face in her legs and wrapping his arms around her knees. "I brought a visitor, Sidon." Mipha motioned to me as he looked up at her.

"Hi Sidon." I smiled at the tiny Zora, kneeling down next to him. "How are you doing? I never did get to thank you for helping me get down from Veiled Falls. If not for you, I'd have been in big trouble."

Sidon gazed at me with watery eyes and then flung his arms around me, nearly knocking me over. Surprised, I stared at his body against mine for a moment until my arms snaked around his small frame. "I'm glad you're alright." I said softly.

"Come." Mipha called, "Sidon, why not show Zelda some of your games while I make dinner." Mipha scrutinized me for a moment. "Forgive me, but I know Hylians are not used to Zora cuisine. What exactly do you like?"

"Uh…. fish?" I replied, figuring that was something all Zora could prepare easily.

Mipha giggled, "Just fish? We have oysters and a variety of crustaceans too."

I thought for a moment, "Those all sound fine." I said hesitantly. "I'm fine with most of your local vegetation too." Recalling the seaweed and lotus seeds I had eaten during my stay.

"Well that gives me lots of options." Mipha said and left to prepare food. Sidon led me further into the house and we sat at a round, perfectly-polished, stone table. It had matching chairs which were cold to the touch. Upon the table was a stone board with blue and white squares on it. There was a collection of polished stones scattered over the board, some bigger than others and different colors. Sidon began to gather all the purple pebbles and I quickly gathered the grey ones.

"Arrange them like this." Sidon instructed as he showed me where each size pebble went on the board. Quickly I did as instructed and then he began to relay to me how to play the game. Not too much later we were playing his game, Sidon correcting any mistakes I made.

He beat me the first round and in the middle of our second, Mipha walked in to inform us dinner was ready. We collected our food and I was happy to see nothing too exotic: broiled lobster, smoked trout, and a seaweed slaw with several different kinds of seaweed in it.

Returning to the table, Sidon set aside the board game and the three of us enjoyed a nice meal. Mipha talked for a bit, but then asked me to relay some of my adventures. Soon I was sharing some of my more exciting and dangerous experiences, from escaping Death Mountain, to nearly plummeting into the Great Rift, and fighting off lizalfos in the desert.

"I was completely surrounded." I said, finishing my tale about encountering the Yiga. "My ankle was badly injured and there was no way I could possibly escape. But then, Link appeared, holding his sword, ready to defend me."

Sidon gave a toothy grin. "And Link defeated the Yiga!"

"He did." I smiled fondly, "He saved me."

"Link is an amazing warrior." Mipha praised, "Even when he was little he had unprecedented talent."

"And then what happened?" Sidon asked, eyes eager for me to finish the story.

"Well the Yiga eventually retreated and then Link and I returned to Gerudo Town via sand seal." I finished.

Sidon smiled, grabbing a yellow cookie from a tray Mipha had set on the table. "I want to be strong like Link." Sidon said through chewing his cookie, which earned him a disapproving look from Mipha.

"Finish chewing before you speak." She reminded him.

He swallowed, abashed. "Sorry Mipha."

She patted his back. "You've certainly been in many dangerous scenarios."

"Yeah…." I said and frowned, "I suppose I could have avoided some from better judgment on my part."

"The fact that you recognize that now means you're learning and growing. I think that's a good start."

Her words made me happy. Perhaps there was hope for me yet. With that Sidon and I returned to our board game, Mipha helping me. We nibbled on cookies throughout and after three more games, I finally beat Sidon…. With Mipha's help.

Night had fallen and Sidon let out a big yawn. "Bedtime for you." Mipha poked her younger brother in the abdomen, causing him to giggle. I watched them for a moment, seeing how much they cared for each other. So this is what a family was like… firm and stern when necessary, but always supportive and caring. It wasn't that I felt jealousy, but rather a deep sense of longing. I wished for a family like there's. Or like Urbosa, whose sister was her best friend. Or Daruk, who had a brother that was always there for him. Or Link, whose family, from what he told me, seemed so close-knit and accepting.

All I had was my father… and we… We didn't like each other. If my mother hadn't died, would our family have been like this? Maybe I would have had a younger sibling, to tease and teach and love.

"Are you ok, Zelda?" Mipha's voice jarred me from my thoughts and I realized there were tears in my eyes.

Blinking them back, I shook my head. "I'm fine. Although I should be getting back. I'm actually quite tired."

"Your body is still recovering." Mipha informed. "Get a good night's rest Zelda. And thank you for joining us."

"The pleasure was mine, really." I said as I stood up. "Thank you for dinner, and games… and the advice. I appreciate it."

"Bye Zelda!" Sidon waved, giving me another crooked grin.

"Goodnight, Sidon. Let's play again, sometime."

The three of us said goodbye and I made my way back to the inn, walking slowly. I felt odd. Not bad… just odd. As if I had a revelation but was unable to fully process it. Eventually my feet came to a standstill and I lifted my head up to stare at the sky. There were still thick clouds, but there were holes for the stars to poke out from.

Rubbing my arms, I hurried back to the inn, the cold creeping in. Link was lying on his bed, reading a book when I returned. His eyes instantly found me and he arched an eyebrow at me. "I thought you were staying at the medical unit another night."

I shook my head. "Nah. Lera released me. I actually spent the night with Mipha and Sidon." Link looked intrigued so I continued. "I ran into Mipha after talking with King Dorephan. We had a nice conversation and she invited me for dinner. Sidon seems to be in good spirits, which I was happy to see. How was your day?"

"Fine." Link shrugged. "Trained. Went on patrol. Ended up running into some lizalfos, but we quickly chased them off."

"Is everyone ok?" I asked.

"Yeah. It's pretty common to find stray lizalfos lurking around here. So getting rid of them is routine."

I flopped down on my bed, the tension in my body fading away. "Ah… this feels so nice." After a moment of silence, I said, "Dorephan also offered a tour. I said yes and you're welcome to come. Mipha will be showing us around and we'll have an array of Zora soldiers with us. Although we should be fine. I think they're just showing us the reservoir and area around it."

Link nodded, "Yeah, it's a pretty common tourist attraction. Especially Shatterback Point." Link narrowed his eyes at me. "Just don't jump off of it."

"Hey!" I said and threw a pillow at him. Link caught the pillow and laughed. I rolled away from him and muttered, "I'm going to be less reckless from now on."

There was a pause. "Come again."

I sat up in bed and glared at him, "I'm going to try and be more thoughtful in my actions and not so reckless."

Link arched an eyebrow, "What brought his on?"

I shrugged, "King Dorephan. I suppose Mipha too." I sighed, "Look, I know I can be obstinate and hasty at times. And I never really thought through all of the consequences of my actions. But I need to do better from now on."

Link didn't reply for awhile. "You're different, Zelda."

"Am I?"

"I think so."

"I have a long way to go." I leaned back into my bed, feeling exhausted.

"That's ok." Link assured. I could hear the smile in his voice. "It's the journey, Zelda, not the destination."

Before I knew it, two days had come and gone and I was climbing the stairs up to the top of the reservoir, Mipha chatting about how it had been constructed. Link was behind me while four guards tailed us. I glanced down at the tiny Zora a step ahead of me, his tiny hand outstretched and holding mine.

Sidon had been stuck to my side since we left Zora's Domain, which I didn't mind, although I figured he'd be glued to Link since Sidon admired him so. As we reached the top of the reservoir, I let out a gasp, my eyes staring at the giant pool of water before us. The sunshine, which had finally shown itself, made the water glimmer. It was a peaceful day, thus the water was completely still.

"It's amazing." I breathed and walked to the edge. Rocks surrounded the pool of water, the highest one to my left, which seemed to reach up into the clouds.

"That's Shatterback Point." Mipha informed, seeing me looking up at it. "It's dangerous to jump off - only our best divers dare to."

That came as no surprise to me with how high it was. Walking to the other edge of the reservoir, I looked out at Zora's Domain, the city now below us. The giant fish's tail arched into the sky, the scales shining pristinely. The rock that made the city seemed extra blue today, bright and brilliant.

"The view is wonderful up here." I said, taking it all in.

"It is." Mipha said. "That is why the architects who built the reservoir also made this outdoor bedroom, for the King and Queen to stay here whenever they so desired."

I glanced at the open bedroom, a stone roof held up by elaborately carved columns protecting the bedroom from rain and the sun. There was a large bed as well as a nightstand, but otherwise it was empty.

"I wish Central had something like this." I said, "But it's too flat. Just grassland and some forest."

"You have the coliseum." Mipha stated. "And there is the Tree of Wisdom."

"That's true. Although the Tree of Wisdom has become more of a tourist attraction. The town there thrives off travelers and knights taking their families there for a quick getaway. It's become very busy. Whereas this is more… secluded." I walked back to the other side of the reservoir.

"This place does actually get pretty busy during other parts of the year. They like to go up Ploymus Mountain and swim in Mikau, Lulu and Toto Lake." Mipha pointed to the mountain to my left.

"How do they get up there?" I asked as it looked like nothing but steep cliffs.

"We have a set of stairs built along the cliffs so others can get up to the lakes and mountains. We Zora can just ascend using the waterfalls, but it's good business making this accessible to others. Some Zora own small stands they set up on the Mountain or at the reservoir selling drinks, food, and knick-knacks."

I raised my brows, impressed. "You really have this figured out."

"My father is actually a decent business man. He may not be a renowned war lord like my grandfather, but he's increased the Domain's wealth using more peaceful tactics. While others may think it's not as noble, I respect my father for the methods he's used."

I nodded, finding myself agreeing with Mipha. While many in Hyrule viewed fighting for their people and homeland honorable, I preferred keeping the peace, even though I had trained for years in the arts of battle. Then again, most people had some weapon training. It was important to know how to defend yourself since there was always a chance of coming across a monster.

I looked over at Link, who was listening as Sidon was telling him something, pointing down at the city. Link nodded as Sidon grinned his toothy smile, clearly having the time of his life. Meanwhile Mipha began to lead us to the end of the reservoir next to Ploymus Mountain, where I spotted the stairs that had been built alongside the mountain.

Nervously, I took a step onto them, grasping the railing tightly as they didn't seem very sturdy as they were made of individual planks of stone drilled into shafts that were attached to the mountain. Yet as I placed all my weight onto them, I found they were quite secure. Mipha and I led the group, two guards right behind us. Link and Sidon were a ways behind, as Sidon kept stopping to point things out to Link.

Eventually, we reached the end of this stretch of stairs and walked to the edge of the cliff, a giant waterfall spewing out and down into a small lake. There was another waterfall below us as well.

Link and Sidon joined us, but soon Sidon ran off, Mipha following him closely behind. "What do you think?" I asked Link, peaking at him from the corner of my eye.

"It looks exactly how I remember it."

"Not much has changed then." I readjusted the blue shirt I was wearing, which I had bought from one of the shops in Zora's Domain. It had a swirling design on it in white that created a jumping fish. "It's a beautiful view." I took in the cavity that Zora's Domain resided in: a city in the middle of a giant lake surrounded by arching rocks.

Link nodded and I turned to face him, studying him carefully. My eyes shifted to Mipha who was talking to two of the guards, the other two were heading down the stairs that lead to the bottom of the waterfall. Meanwhile, Sidon ran past Mipha heading up towards Ploymus Mountain.

"Are you looking forward to returning to Central?" I asked, my eyes shifting back to the waterfall.

"It will be nice to be back." Link stated.

I sat down and Link joined me, our legs dangling over the side, water lightly spraying our shoes and pant cuffs. "There will be much to do once we get back." My mind tallied all the things on my to-do list. "There's the champions, war preparations, collaborating, research… and you'll have to go back to the Lost Woods."

"Yeah, but we'll manage." He gave me a reassuring smile.

"Before you go do your trials, make sure to visit your family." I told Link.

Link smiled, "That would be nice. My sister will want to hear all about my travels." He paused for a minute, his face suddenly tinted a faint pink. "If you want, you could come with. I'm sure they'd love to meet you."

"Meet me?" I replied shocked. I quickly shook my head, "No, that's ok. I'd rather not intrude. Besides I'll have a lot of things to tend to at the castle. Thanks for the offer though."

"Right." Link said and scratched the back of his head. "Makes sense you'd be busy."

Before I could reply, Mipha walked over to us, "Have you seen Sidon? It looks like he escaped me while I was talking to Haphe."

I rose, brushing off my pants. "I saw him go up the mountain. I can run up and fetch him quickly."

"That'd be great. I'm going to head down to Lake Lulu. Dunma and Gaddison went back to the Domain to grab us some food. I thought it'd be nice to have a picnic. They'll meet us by the lake and then we can go back up to the mountain."

"How lovely." I smiled. I loved picnics. "I'll be right back with Sidon!" With that I followed the trail up the mountain, excited for the picnic. As I rounded the corner, I saw an array of trees scattered about and the trail continued to lead up to a rocky peak: Shatterback Point.

"Sidon!" I called, figuring he was hiding behind a rock or a tree. "Let's go down by the lake with the others. There'll be a picnic."

A rustling sound came from behind a large boulder and I walked over to it, a smirk on my face. "Come on Sidon! I know you're there." But as I neared the boulder, my skin began to prickle, a feeling of uneasy settling in.

Another noise sounded and then a loud stomp, like that off a horse hoof hitting dirt. And then a deep grunt came followed by a creature of nightmares walking out from behind the boulder, it's sharp, intelligent eyes instantly fixing on me.

I stopped dead in my tracks, my blood instantly freezing. Terror seized my body while my brain tried to process what I was seeing. This was impossible. How could such a monster be here? This was a well patrolled area. How could one of the most vicious creatures to exits - that filled children's nightmares - be here?

My bottom lip quivered as I finally understood just what was before me. I didn't understand why it was before me, but I accepted that it was here. And I could see my death reflecting in it's dark eyes.

Lynels were powerful creatures. But what made them the most fearsome and dangerous was their shrewdness and intelligence. Most monsters were easily outsmarted. Not Lynels. They could strategize. They could set traps. And they're strength and size outmatched even the Gorons.

Lynels were rare and mysterious. Rumors would spark every now and then of sightings, but once anyone went to investigate, it's like they were trying to find a ghost. A few people that traveled in remote locations of Hyrule would sometimes go missing, their belongings found abandoned, but not a trace to be found of their bodies. Lynels were always the go to monster people liked to claim were responsible, as these beasts had earned an almost godlike reverence due to how much they were feared.

And it was easy to see why so many feared them. They were giant, sporting the body of a lean horse while the top half was that of a broad-chested man and a small face surrounded by a main of fur, wild and spiky. Two curved hours protruded from their skulls, deadly sharp. The Lynel before me was no exception. It was pure muscle and strength. It's rough face was surrounded by a main of red fur, a portion tied into a gold ring. It's black horns glinted in the sunlight and scars marred it's body. Upon its back was a giant broadsword and a longbow.

But most frightening of all were its eyes: black and bottomless, staring at me with a cruel intelligence. As it analyzed me, time seemed to stop. I was rooted in place for what felt like hours but at the same time milliseconds.

My arms shaking, I reached behind me to grab my bow, only to find empty air. I let out a pained exhale as I recalled leaving it back at the inn, knowing we wouldn't run into anything that dangerous, a stray lizalfos was about all we may come across.

I had been deadly wrong. Even with four guards, I doubted we could bring down a lynel. Tearing my eyes away from it, I turned around and fled, knowing running away was my only option. Even I knew fighting a lynel was insanity.

As if my movement had flipped a trigger, the beast let out a bone-chilling roar, which seemed to shake the very ground, making me stumble. But that stumble had saved my life as an arrow whizzed by me, just grazing my shoulder.

I dove behind a tree, my breathing heavy. I clamped a hand down on my injured shoulder, blood staining my shirt, yet I felt no pain. The fear drowned out the pain. I had to get away… somehow. Yet panic had filled me, making it extremely difficult to think of any plan to escape this situation. I didn't even know if there was a way to escape. Death was the only possible outcome.

I was going to die here.

The Lynel let out another roar and then charged at me, his colossal sword high above his head. Adrenaline pumping through my veins and as the Lynel swung his sword, I dove to the ground, feeling the wind coming off his blow from the sheer power behind it. The tree that I was behind had been cleanly sliced in two, the upper half sliding to the group with a thud.

Finding myself by the lynel's hooves, I rolled away before he could stomp on me and then clamored to my feet. The lynel huffed, his torso whipping in my direction, his burly arm swinging out and knocking me clean off my feet. My body slammed into the ground and I rolled onto all fours, spitting out blood.

I looked over at the lynel as he walked over to me, like a demon of destruction. I scrambled to my feet and began to climb up the more rocky part of the mountain, hoping the rougher terrain would prevent him from charging me. If I could get some distance between us, perhaps I could think of something. As I reached the ledge, I skidded to a halt, a clean drop off below me. I couldn't even climb down as the rock I was on jutted out. It was either jump to my death or be cut down.

I turned back to the lynel, who knew I was cornered. It walked to me at an even pace, sword in hand. I met the beast's gaze, seeing nothing but coldness in them. This must have been what it felt like to look death in the eye. For in that moment, I could feel death's grip around me.

Letting out a shaky breath, I clenched my fists. In my final moments I had one choice to make, and that was jump or be prey. I decided to jump.

Link watched Zelda climb up Ploymus Mountain, jogging easily up the trail. It appeared that she had fully recovered.

"I'll head down to join the others." Mipha called as she made her way towards the stairs and then disappeared down them. Link sat down at the top of the waterfall, waiting for Zelda to return. He knew it wouldn't take her long, but he felt like sitting while he admired the scenery. However a minute later, Mipha was running back up the stairs.

"Link." She called, "It looks like Sidon's actually already down by the lake. I spotted him down there with Haphe."

Link stood up. "I'll let Zelda know."

However before either of them could make another move, a tumultuous roar echoed out, far too close for comfort. Link met Mipha's eyes, which were wide, "Get the guards." Link told her and then ran up Ploymus Mountain, his heart already racing. His hand went for the Master Sword, pulling it from its sheath.

As he rounded the corner in the path, his eyes took in the scene before him in seconds, although it took his brain slightly longer to realize exactly what he was looking at: a lynel. And Zelda, trapped at the edge of the cliff.

Link had never encountered one of them before; he had only heard stories about how fierce and vicious they were. He had been warned these beasts were best avoided and if you had to face one, do so in groups. Yet all of that advice melted from Link's mind as he saw Zelda in danger. His hands closed around the handle of his sword and he charged forward, abandoning his fears and reservations. A cold, calculating calm took over him as he ran at the Lynel. Then when he was close enough, he lunged forward, cutting down with his blade.

I steeled myself, ready to jump, before I could go any further, a flash of blue suddenly caught my eye. And then there was Link, his blade sinking down into the lynels's flesh, blood spraying everywhere. The lynel dropped his giant sword, the creature's hand still attached to it. It gave a mangled cry, its amputated arm squirting blood.

It lashed out at Link with it's other hand, but Link was too swift, darting away out of range. The lynel, now enraged, charged at Link, who dove out of the way and rolled back to his feet. The lynel sneered, growing irate. Link quickly lunged in close, hacking deep into the Lynels side. The lynel roared, its cry menacing but also filled with anger and pain. It rounded back and picked up it's huge sword with it's other hand, shaking it free of the decapitated appendage. Link followed it and tried to get a blow in, but the Lynel saw it coming and spun around, swinging the gigantic blade at Link.

I gasped, watching as the blade cut clear across. Yet Link evaded the blade by flipping backwards and as soon as he landed on his feet he charged in close, countering the Lynel while it was wide open. He hacked into the lynel's thick skin, showering blood onto him, which soaked into his blue tunic. The Lynel bellowed and swung again, but it was a slow and messy strike, which Link easily ducked underneath. As he dodged, Link swiped out his blade, slashing into the creatures ankle. The sword cute deep, causing the lynel to collapse on that foot.

Link darted away as the lynel fell. The lynel dug his sword into the ground, trying to use it to steady himself. Seeing his chance, Link ran at the lynel and using the colossal sword as leverage, Link jumped from the sword onto the lynels back. Link raised his sword high and then plunged it deep into the lynel's back, only stopping when the hilt touched the beasts skin.

The lynel let out a strained noise and then gave several ragged breaths until it finally collapsed and fell still.

I felt myself let out a breath that I had not realized I had been holding. My body was shaking and I began to feel the tingles of pain in my shoulder and chest. A cough racked my body and I spit up more blood.

Link dismounted the lynel, pulling his blade from the beasts flesh. Instead of the normal silver, the sword was now crimson, coated in blood. Link's head turned towards me and our eyes met, blue to green. We each took a few steps toward the other, I stunned from what had transpired, while Link's eyes were still serious and cool, as if he was prepared for another threat.

I stopped a few paces away from him, my body trembling. Had I really survived? I had been looking straight at death and somehow I had made it out alive.

Link took another step towards me, his hand stretching out towards me. I met his gaze once more and whatever he saw in them made his freeze. I let out a shaky breath and then an impulse overcame me. Although I had near death experiences before, for some reason this one had rattled me. It had truly made me fear for my life.

In that moment I threw away all my inhibitions. I didn't care about politics and social norms. All there was was Link and I on this mountain and this burning feeling inside me. I couldn't ignore it any longer.

In the blink of an eye, I closed the distance between Link and I, my body colliding with his as I wrapped my arms around him, pulling him close to me. My lips met his and before I realized it we were kissing, his arms snaking around my waist. The burning sensation in my chest reached a crescendo as the desires that I had been resisting for so long finally had been realized. Link… he was here, his body against mine… his lips on mine, soft but fierce. A part of me thought this was a dream, but everything felt too real for it to be a dream, too delightfully real.

I pulled away, resting my forehead on his shoulder as I gasped for air, my body still shaking. Link held me close to him, his arms steadying me. The endorphins were fading and a deep throbbing had started in the side of my chest. My knees finally gave out and Link slowly knelt to the ground as I clung to him.

"Zelda, are you hurt?" He asked with concern and in response I gave a wet cough, as if I had phlegm stuck in my throat but instead blood trickled out. Link pulled me back so he could look at me, his eyes instantly seeing the blood running down my chin. Another cough racked my body, causing more blood to spew forth. My hands came to my mouth, as coughs wracked my body.

"Hold on Zelda." Link said and quickly picked my up in his arms. He did not get far before Mipha and two other Zora ran into view, weapons in the guards hands. The stopped in shock, there eyes flitting from the dead lynel to Link and I. Mipha recovered first and ran to us.

"Put her down." She instructed Link, who complied. Mipha quickly began to inspect me, her gentle hands probing at my injuries, which made me hiss in pain. "Cut to the shoulder and punctured lung." She muttered. With ease she began to tend to my injuries, setting my rib back into place and then she placed a hand over my injuries, her face in deep focus. Just like last time, a warm, tingly feeling began to radiate from where her hand was touching me and into my body, chasing away the pain until it was all gone.

When it was over, Mipha pulled her hand away and let out a relieved sigh. I brought my hand up to my shoulder, the skin completely knitted back together. "Thanks Mipha." I said and sat up.

"Take it easy." Mipha told me and Link's hand came to my back to support me.

"I'm ok." I said, "I'm just… a little freaked out." My eyes shifted to the lynel's limp body, a pool of blood forming around it.

"With good reason." Mipha assured. "You two should go back to Zora's Domain. I'll follow but first I need to collect Sidon and tell the other guards what's happened."

Link nodded and once more I was whisked into his arms. I wasn't weakened like the last time; I knew my body was still capable of walking. But I didn't protest as Link carried me down the stairs and back to Zora's Domain. I was pretty sure I was in shock and for right now I let the others take control of the situation while I collected my bearings.

As we entered the city, I grabbed Link's tunic, earning his attention. "We need to inform King Dorephan." I whispered. "Right away."

Link agreed and as we neared the throne room, he set me down. I took a few deep breaths, feeling calmer. Climbing up the stairs, I found Dorephan, discussing something with a green Zora who I believed was named Muzu. There chatter instantly stopped as they laid eyes on Link and eye.

"What's the matter?" Dorephan asked, his eyes seeing the blood on our clothes.

"There was…. A lynel on Ploymus Mountain." I said, my voice steady.

"Mipha and Sidon-" King Dorephan started with alarm in his voice.

"Are fine." I quickly reassured him and then began to explain what happened. Dorephan quickly told Muzu to inform Seggin and have the Sergeant send out patrols. As the King did this, Mipha, Sidon - who was being carried in Mipha's arms- and two guards hurried into the throne room.

"Father." Mipha greeted, her voice tense.

"I know." King Dorephan said, "Zelda told me what happened."

The Zora quickly began to discuss what happened, Mipha relaying her end of the experience. Feeling as if I wasn't needed here anymore, I grabbed Link's wrist and the two of us slunk out of the room unnoticed. Quietly we made our way back to the inn, where we both cleaned up and changed into different clothes that weren't blood-soaked. I stared down at my blue fish shirt, disappointed that it was already ruined.

Link shuffled over to me, his shoulder brushing mine. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah." I sighed, "Just shook up. I never would have expected a lynel to show up here."

Link grimaced, "It is concerning."

"You took it out easily." I said admiringly. Link had charged head first into battle, whereas I had cowered in fear.

"I was able to get the upper hand by surprising it." Link said, "Besides I couldn't let anything happen to you." His hand came up to my face to tuck a stray lock of hair behind my ear. He felt so close and suddenly I recalled that I had kissed him - unabashedly and without restraint.

What had I done?

I sat down on my bed, folding my hands and looking at the floor. "I suppose this is just the beginning." I stated, keeping the topic on monsters and war rather than my feelings.

"Yes." Link answered, finality in his voice. "I'm sure more monsters like that will appear all throughout Hyrule. Entire hordes too. War is coming." Link sat down next to me.

"We should return to Central. Who knows how much time we have." I said, the severity of the situation finally setting in.

"Leave tomorrow?"

I nodded. "Yes. That way we can be back to Central in two days."

Link and I sat in silence for a long while, both lost in our own thoughts. Eventually we found ourselves sprawled out on my bed, feet still on the floor and our eyes fixed on the ceiling. We stayed like that for a long time, lost in the silence.

My thoughts went to the lynel and for the first time since we started this journey, Calamity Ganon's return seemed real. And it scared me. For so long I hadn't understood the full gravity of the situation, but now I did. I wasn't sure why the lynel had rattled me so much, since I had been close to death before. Sometimes I had even sought death. But never had I been so powerless and hopeless. I think that's what shook me the most… I could do nothing in the face of such a terrifying monster. How would I ever be able to face Ganon?

I rolled onto my side, curling into a ball as my forehead came to rest against Link's ribcage. My hands reached out for his red shirt, squeezing at the fabric. At least no matter what happened I'd have Link by my side. As if to affirm that, Link's arm wrapped around my shoulders.

An image of Link, battered and bloodied flashed through my mind - it was from the vision I had at the Spring of Power. Swallowing, I vowed that I would never let that happen. We would find a way to come out of this, all of us alive.

And there you have it. So a lot happened in this chapter, at least for me. Zelda was given some much needed advice because she has been kind of reckless in this story. I've tried to write her more along the lines that she comes off as really strong, but that strength is actually quite shallow. She's got a lot of insecurities and someone has finally talked to her about finding her own strength and worth.

Also wanted to build Mipha and Zelda's relationship up as Zelda already has pretty good relationships with the other champions - Urbosa and Daruk who she's known since a child, and Revali who's become a rival/best friend to her. So I wanted to take a little time to build a friendly relationship between Mipha and Zelda.

A quick side note. When I was developing the idea for this story, one thing I've always been a big fan off is the idea of training your body and mind, kind of like the samurai's did of ancient Japan. It's actually something I incorporate a lot into my stories and probably something I myself resonate with... lol I'm a gym rat and a lab rat. So that's where the idea behind Zelda's martial arts training came from. And her mother and grandmother, etc. all underwent this same training: martial arts and prayer. (I picked martial arts cause I'm more familiar with it as I train MMA).

I still have a lot planned for this story. I think this might be the halfway point, give or take. I know Link hasn't had that big of a role yet, he's been a huge support for Zelda, but he's kind of been her sidekick up until now. Which honestly, is kind of how it was in the games - at least how I saw it. In my opinion, Age of Calamity/100 year before BOTW is Zelda's story. Link was just following her around while she prepared for Calamity Ganon. So A Hero's Ballad is mainly Zelda's story. Link will have some more important moments coming up, but largely this is about Zelda. The next story in this trilogy, A Hero's Sacrifice, will be all about Link, since BOTW is Link's story, and Zelda takes a back seat.

And finally, the most important part of the chapter... the kiss! Ah, it finally happened! This has been my image of their first kiss for a long time. Not sure why, but it just came to me and I loved it. Hopefully you guys enjoyed it too and the wait was worth it. There will still be some things to sort out with their relationship because nothing is ever easy for these two. But we'll get there. Their relationship is the core of this story and I've still got a lot to build.

Anyways, your thoughts are always appreciated! Let me know what you thought and as always thank you so much for reading!
