Izuku ran. He couldn't stop. He didn't even know where he was going.
He ran at full speed, not using his quirk, and flew by people. Glancing at each person, he noted that every civilian wore similar outfits: Black jacket, red shirt, black bottom. For men they were black slacks and for women they were black skirts. Every civilian wore the exact same style shoes: Black wingtip.
Izuku didn't know what was going on. Why was everyone wearing the same thing? Even hair styles were monotone per sex.
He collapsed in an alley, far away from the public eye. He looked at himself. He was an outlier in the entire city!
But why?
He pulled out his cell phone and promptly threw it on the ground. It was destroyed by that vortex, so no use keeping it around.
Izuku just sat quietly in the alleyway, thinking about his next move.
A lightbulb lit in his head.
Mom.
Standing quickly, he activated full cowling. He prepared to take off, when he heard familiar voices.
"Hey! Cellophane! Look what we have here! A stray, wannabe hero!"
Izuku turned with glee at the voice. It had to be! He smiled when he saw his friends Mineta and Sero, who looked at him with predatory eyes. Deactivating full cowling, he turned to them with a grin.
"Oh thank God! Sero! Mineta! Am I glad to see you! What happened? I was in that vortex and-"
A slab of tape slammed into his stomach. Falling to his knees, Izuku looked at a grinning Sero, who cracked his knuckles.
"What the hell are you talking about? I don't even know you!" He turned to Mineta, who chuckled. "You know him, Wine?"
Izuku felt his stomach drop. There was no way. He observed the outfits both guys wore.
Sero had on an black and white striped dress shirt, covered by a black silk vest, accompanied with an orange tie. The sleeves were cut off, exposing his well built arms and quirked elbows. His hair was the same as Izuku knew it to be.
Mineta wore a purple and grey three piece suit with an olive coloured tie bar. It was definitely better than what his hero costume was.
Both teens grinned, which spelled bad news for Izuku.
"Nope. Never seen him a day in my life. Whatcha think? Maybe Ground Zero might wanna round with him?"
Sero pondered for a second. "Yeah, I think that's a good idea. Let's wrap him up." He lifted his arm, but was promptly thrown aside by a long pink...appendage?
Izuku swerved to the side to see a girl with long green hair, black body suit and goggles turn to him. Her tongue retracted back to her, and she leapt at Mineta, sending him back into Sero with a flying kick. She grabbed Mineta with her tongue and slammed him into a car, effectively knocking him out.
She grabbed some beads from her suit and threw them at the recovering Sero, who convulsed with electricity when hit. Knocked out, the tape user collapsed.
She extended a hand towards him. "Come with me if you want to live!" Izuku didn't hesitate as he grabbed her hand, and they sped to...his house?
This only added to his ever-growing list of questions.
They landed in a park near his home, and who appeared to be Tsuyu set him down gently. She looked him over, suspicion filling her eyes. She pointed to him. "Explain."
Izuku paused, trying his best to recall the events. Everything happened so fast, that it was hard to keep track of everything.
Everything played in his head like a movie. The goodbye, the swirling vortex behind him, the beach, the newspaper, the board, the alleyway, and now this park. Wait, the newspaper!
"You're not from around here, are you?"
Tsuyu's voice cut him off before he had a chance to speak.
"What gave it away?"
She chuckled. "No sane person would ever go head to head with Cellophane and Wine."
Izuku nodded. "I know they can be dangerous…"
Her eyes narrowed. "How would you know if you've never fought against them?"
Izuku gulped. "Well, I know them. I know you, Tsuyu." He wished he remained silent with the look she gave him. "I-I mean, I know another you. Maybe. This is so complicated."
"Start at the beginning, then. Ribbit."
Izuku nodded, regaining his composure. "It started when I volunteered to help test out a time machine at my school. The other students didn't want to risk their lives, but I needed to see if it worked to help wipe out the league of villains.
"The quirks used were my little friend Eri's rewind. The thought was that with her quirk, we could rewind back in time, to a certain time period. It was supposed to be a few minutes before the test." Tsuyu nodded, motioning him to continue.
"However, something went wrong. While I was supposed to wake up to my friends, I ended up on a beach, and I saw a billboard with All Might." He noticed Tsuyu flinching at the mention of his predecessor's name. "I also saw the article about you attacking pro hero Ground Zero, though I'm questioning if he is an actual hero based on what Cellophane and Wine mentioned, and you saved me from them." Tsuyu nodded.
"Now, we're here, and I'd really like to know what's going on." Izuku finished with a sigh of relief.
Tsuyu was at a loss. It was confusing. There was so much to take in, and it didn't look like he was kidding either.
He actually reminded her of her boss. From his truthful nature to his looks. She knew she had to take him to the boss. This seemed important.
"Ribbit. Well, I can tell you're not lying," Izuku turned to her. "And I can't just leave you here. I can take you to where I'm staying, and I can tell you what's going on."
"You believe me, just like that?"
"Are you saying I should kick your ass right now?"
"..."
"It's settled then. I have one question for you. Ribbit."
"Uh, sure."
"What do you know about the thieves?"
"The what?"
"Ribbit. You just answered my question. I don't have a reason to doubt you."
Izuku was baffled. "Uh, thanks?"
"Now, about All Might…"
Izuku learned a lot about where he was. He found out that there used to be pro heroes, but it wasn't until the death of a student that inspired upcoming heroes and actual villains to revolt, claiming that no hero could ever let a student die.
Apparently, the act that killed the student was by All Might's hand, where he became infuriated with the student and snapped his neck.
No one, except a handful of people, knew the student's true identity, as it became lost over the year.
Izuku was blown away.
Whatever happened was done a year ago.
He found that the heroes that turned into villains were several of his old classmates, who grew fed up with the system that heroes worked under. This was apparently influenced by Stain, who was still at large.
When asked about the students that didn't revolt from being heroes, Tsuyu made sure to dodge the question, looking rather...uncomfortable. Seeing this, Izuku didn't pry.
He asked about the villains. Tsuyu was glad to supply that some villains ran away, but some turned over a new leaf and helped them out.
By the time he wanted to ask about "them", they arrived at their destination. Izuku looked up to see… His house?!
He turned to Tsuyu, eyes narrowed. "What is this?"
"It's where I live, ribbit."
"Is it? I'm pretty sure it's where I live."
"Oh, say that louder, I'm sure Wine and Cellophane didn't hear you." Her eyes were narrow as well. "I'm sure you lived here once upon a time, but I'll have you know that this is hq, ribbit." She placed her hand on a keypad, and let a laser scan her webbed fingers.
Izuku was stunned. "Headquarters?"
"Yes."
"Oh."
The door opened, and Tsuyu stepped inside with her guest in tow. She turned to him. "Once you meet the commander, only speak when spoken to, do not give attitude, and DO NOT call her by name. You are to call her by "sir". Ribbit."
Izuku nodded. "Got it."
Izuku looked around as they walked, smiling as everything was exactly as he remembered. And he would remember, since he was literally here earlier that day.
They entered a small room, and upon closer inspection, discovered an elevator. Stepping in and pressing the number thirty, Izuku and Tsuyu stood in a comfortable silence, with Tsuyu staring blankly ahead.
Izuku's mind was a tornado of thoughts. What is going on? Why was this happening? Who was the student who was killed? Why did All Might snap? Why did his classmates snap?"
"Hey Green guy." Tsuyu snapped him out of his trance. Hey looked timidly at the girl he swore he knew.
She rolled her eyes. "Cut out the mumbling. It's annoying. Ribbit."
"Ah, okay."
"Grow a backbone. We're here." True to her words, the door opened, revealing a massive laboratory like area, equipped with stations of firearms, chargers, weapons of all sorts, and food.
Following the frog girl, he saw she led him to a room closer to the second floor, and she led him inside. What he saw put a stop in his step.
It was his mother, but it wasn't. She was slim and tall, rather than the short and stout woman he loved to death. She looked rather intimidating. She was currently scanning her eyes on the computer, unaware of his presence.
Tsuyu coughed, gaining his mother's attention. Inko smiled. "Hello, Tsuyu, what brings you here today?"
"Found a scrub on the streets. He has an interesting story for you." She pushed Izuku in the woman's sight, remaining silent.
"Tsuyu, I-" Inko froze when she saw her guest. It was him, but it couldn't be. He was dead! Inko's fingers and legs shook as she walked to the boy, and hesitantly placed a finger on his shoulder.
She flinched when she actually touched cloth. Looking over to Tsuyu, she nodded. "Leave us." Tsuyu bowed and left the room.
Inko heard the door click and placed another shaking hand on Izuku's cheek, lightly caressing it. "H-how?" Her voice was wavering, and her body couldn't stop shaking.
Izuku smiled lightly. "H-hey Mom."
Inko couldn't hold it anymore. She pulled her son into a hug, tears flowing from her eyes. "It's really you. You came back to me."
Izuku felt awkward. He didn't have a clue of what was going on, so he awkwardly hugged her back, hoping she didn't know how tense he was.
Alas, a mother always knows. She released her hold on him, concern adorning her features. "What's wrong, Izuku? Aren't you happy to see me?"
Izuku rubbed his arm awkwardly. "Well, that's the thing. I just saw you this morning."
Inko stood up rigidly. Her voice was quiet. "What?"
"Yeah, I don't know why I'm here, or where I am, to be honest."
Inko slammed her hand on a table, surprising Izuku. "WHAT TRICKERY IS THIS?" She rushed Izuku, grabbing him by the shirt. "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU THEN?"
Izuku was concerned. He'd only seen his mother this angry once, and he never wanted to see it again. "Mom, it's really me! You have to believe me!" He was shoved to a table by his mother, whose hair shadowed her eyes. "I don't know what's going on. I just want things to go back to normal, and attend Eraserhead's class, and get yelled at by Kachaan." His eyes teared up as he spoke, desperation loud in his plea.
Inko looked at her boy, and her gaze softened significantly. "Okay, Izuku." He looked at her. "One chance to explain what's going on. If something doesn't add up, you aren't my son, and if something does, you'll be free to do as you wish."
Izuku nodded.
She raised a pistol at him, taking the safety off. "Start talking." Her eyes held no emotion.
There Izuku went, telling the truth as he told Tsuyu. He left nothing out, and over time Inko started to smile. She smiled at the part where Izuku told Katsuki to take care of her, and she grew concerned that he spoke to Bakugo's lackeys already.
Izuku finished the tale, and was relieved that his mother put her gun on the table.
Inko stared at him, trying not to remember. She smiled. "You called him Kachaan. You really are Izuku." She tackled him in another hug, crying of happiness this time. He gladly returned the hug, and smiled.
A few minutes passed, and Izuku, Tsuyu, and Inko sat at the table, cups of tea out and steaming. The three talked about the world they were in, what happened, and what they were doing now.
Izuku was surprised to hear that his mother was the head of a group called the "Liberation Front", where they take in strays and are fighting the army All Might created. They took in people with quirks and people without, in honour of the original Izuku. As long as the person showed promise, they were welcomed. There was no use bringing in anyone who was going to hold them back.
It turned out that All Might established a dictatorship, taking control of Japan and most of the world, due to his one of a kind quirk and charisma. Though, the dictatorship didn't know about Izuku's quirk.
When asked about his quirk, Inko and Tsuyu were surprised to see that Izuku has a form of All Might's quirk, and was currently training to use it. In fact, the two were ecstatic that they finally had a counter to All Might.
As their conversation came to a close, Inko told Tsuyu to give Izuku a tour of the area, and show him where he'll be sleeping. Grumbling, Tsuyu obliged, and immediately directed him to the sleeping area.
It wasn't spacious, which was fine with Izuku, but what irked Tsuyu the most was that it was directly under hers, something she knew the Commander had something to do with.
Izuku found the Liberation Front headquarters to be a pretty cool place, and immediately passed out once his head hit the pillow.
Tsuyu didn't sleep. Instead, she elected to sharpen her knives, her thoughts on a rampage.
She recalled what now deceased hero Nighteye prophesied:
"A man of green and black shall take the dictatorship down, piece by piece."
She momentarily paused her sharpening, her eyes glistening.
Was this stranger the key to taking down All Might?
