Chapter 02: Gold and Silver

"Natsuki! Stop being lazy! She'll be here soon!"

"Do you really have to shout, Alyssa?" Resting her elbow against her wheelchair's armrest, Natsuki stared at the blonde surrounded by clutter inside her room. Easing her hand from her jaw, she lifted an index and middle finger upwards. "You're going to be double digits soon."

"Nine fingers." The child rose her hands, frowning when a scoff was thrown her way, "Stop being mean!"

"One thumb, eight fingers." Natsuki muffled into her palm as she leant against her mouth. Cocking a brow as the blonde scrunched up her face, she shook her head. "Sisters." Choosing to ignore her baby sister, she peered outside the room's window. It was clear out. She wondered what her Meister was like.

"Na-tsu-ki!" Her persistent sister prodded, shuffling up into her lap.

"Fine. Fine. If you insist." Natsuki muttered under her breath. Hovering her hands from the blonde, she allowed Alyssa to adjust herself. Once the girl was happily seated against her, she laid her hands against her armrests. "Comfy?" A nod was her only reply, and she smiled languidly. "You do know you'll think this is gross in a few years, right?"

Already her baby sister was nine. It was surreal—Natsuki could still remember when the blonde had been a newborn. The time had flown past swiftly. So fast, Natsuki had hardly registered it. Now that time had grinded to a halt thanks to her accident.

She wouldn't be walking again.

"You're doing it again. Stop it." Small hands waved before her face, causing Natsuki to blink. "Stop. It. I'll help you not be poorly!" Turning to face her elder sister, Alyssa narrowed her eyes.

"If only." Natsuki chuckled soberly. Guiding Alyssa into her previous position, she propped her chin atop her sister's head. "Besides. Shouldn't you be outside doing… kids stuff?"

"When it's just Miyu I'm happy. Why must I be watched by everyone?" Alyssa couldn't understand the fuss. Their mother was always so overprotective of her making friends. Yet on the other hand wished that she'd make more. How was she supposed to with that mindset?

"Mom's th-"

"Mom this, mom that!"

A laugh escaped Natsuki who leaned back against her wheelchair. Resting her knuckles against her jaw, she sighed. "Alyssa, aren't you the more sensible one of the family?" She asked.

"Natsuki Kruger, Alyssa Kruger?"

A voice sounded as the bedroom door opened. Glancing towards the intruding voice, Natsuki's expression settled neutrally. A brunette stood just inside the doorway.

Her Meister had arrived.

A/N: As always I'm going to gradually introduce different characters. This is going to work a little differently compared to Renascence and Squall. Instead of the usual characters, I'm going to mix a few new ones together.
