Chapter 05: A Mother's Errand

Two Weeks Later

"How many times must I tell you this? You can't keep babying me! Alyssa has more freedom than me! Is it because I can't walk? Is that it?!" Natsuki despised this. Just because she was unable to walk didn't give her mother the right to suffocate her in bubble wrap!

"Natsuki, the Schwartz Colony want independence. If we-"

"-we'll go to war. As you've mentioned a thousand times." Sliding her hands against her face, Natsuki sighed as she then leant her jaw against her palm. "They'd have to be stupid to target me when I have Shizuru. I'm an adult, not a child, mother. Or have you forgotten?" Could she catch a break from this woman's superstition? They couldn't hide away forever. What would that even prove? That the Krugers didn't have a backbone? That Aries would write a pathetic letter to Windbloom for help?

"At least let me work behind the scenes? You never agreed to me wanting to get into the military. Or are you still pissed-"—"-Natsuki!-"—"-No. Don't you Natsuki me! Are you still pissed about the nanomachines?" Adjusting her wheelchair in order to leave, she ignored the President.

"I was nev-" Sinking into her chair, Saeko stared as the doors closed. Ugh. Earl's sake. Every time she tried negotiating with Natsuki, somehow she just managed to wreck it into pieces. Brushing her fingers against her lips, Saeko stole a glance to her desk telephone.

There was no helping it.

Spinning the dial of the phone, Saeko inputted a number and pressed the receiver to her ear.

"President?"

"Slot in a new meeting on the next hour, please. I will organise the details during the meeting itself."

"Anything else, ma'am?"

"Contact my daughter. Allow her entry into the meeting this time." Saeko's attention went down to a picture frame on the corner of her desk. It would be fine, right? "The meeting regards Aries' overall safety, so warn her."

"Yes, ma'am."

As the connection cut, the President sighed. Placing the phone back onto its stand, she opened her desk drawer. Within this particular drawer was only a stack of paper. Bringing a few pages out, she placed them before her.

Every operation had to be started somewhere. With the Schwartz Colony, they required to settle this swiftly. Schwartz had never been a quiet one. They had always been a thorn in her side.

Instructions and details pinpointed, Saeko paused. Her pen remained on the paper, and she stared at her writing. Was any of this a good idea? Her thoughts remained on her daughter instead of the task at hand. Though the younger woman was indeed trained, she couldn't help but worry over her desperately.

Saeko could only hope she hadn't made an awful mistake.
