Chapter 06: Uncertainties
"Natsuki? Are you alright?" Having observed the Kruger retreating from the President's office, Shizuru immediately caught up with her. They were now outside in the courtyard, away from spying ears. "Your mother sent a message in quite a hurry."
"Now what?" Why were her mother's antics so exhausting? "What does she want now?" Her Meister eased closer to her, passing her a memo card. Her mother was always excruciatingly frantic with decisions. It was remarkable that the President was even successful at all. Perhaps she was merely popular? Actually, Natsuki wasn't even sure.
Taking the small memo, she flipped the card. Upon it was the graceful scrawl Shizuru had written just moment's prior. "A meeting?" Was Natsuki losing it? The scenario that Saeko Kruger had been persuaded to allow Natsuki into the meeting was impossible. Now this had Natsuki's attention. But, ugh. She seriously didn't want to turn back now. For all she knew, this could just be one of her mother's ploys. The President tended to be fickle like that. Naturally, due to this, Natsuki was unsure whether to trust her.
"You should go, it is worth the try, surely?"
Glancing up to the woman, Natsuki sighed. "Suppose you're right."
Natsuki honestly didn't know what to do with her life. During the fortnight Shizuru had certainly been helpful, but even so? What was her purpose? She had never taken fancy to public engagements, and working for the military had been ripped from her fingers. Not only by fate, but by her mother also.
Other than being disabled, who truly was she? Her hopes, dreams and beliefs had all been shattered. It was unknown to her what she would become in the future. If… anything? Her potential was ruined and she wasn't exactly creative. She needed to do things with her hands, but those past hobbies had required mobility.
"Natsuki."
"Sorry." Rubbing her brow, Natsuki glanced behind her as Shizuru took control of the wheelchair. "I'll go then."
Exactly who was she?
N/A: Only took me how long? Anyway, here we are. I've done a basic rewrite of the previous chapters so things should flow better. No idea why I made Alyssa sound so middle aged during the original version.
