Omega was so happy when she walked into the palace with her now official family. She held her now officially adopted parents' hands as they entered their home again.
"Welcome back home..." smiled Anakin. "Omega Skywalker."
"Your officially part of the family now, by all standards this time." Padme smiled.
"And by those standards," said Sapphire. "Omega, it appears you are officially a princess."
"Either way, you are our princess." Qui-Gon said, picking up his granddaughter and kissing her cheek.
Estrella gave Omega a good nuzzling.
Omega was so happy she was back with her family. Permanently this time.
"I love you, Big Sister." Gabby said, giving her now official sister a big hug.
"I love you too... Little Sister." Omega smiled, returning her sister's embrace.
To celebrate, a special dinner was served to welcome Omega into the family. A celebration just for her and the family. They could introduce her as a princess later. For now, they simply wanted to welcome her as a Skywalker and a Jinn family member.
Everyone raised a glass to Omega and to a new family.
Omega felt so loved knowing that her family was there and welcoming her with open arms and friendly smiles.
"Soon we shall announce to the rest of the galaxy," said Qui-Gon. "That Princess Omega has arrived."
"That's gonna be a real craze." Carmine said. "Once you're announced as a royal, there's no going back to being ordinary."
"Too true." said Lamenta. "I still can't walk outside without cameras swarming me unless I literally become invisible."
"No one ever said being a princess was easy." Gabby said. "I should know."
That made Omega nervous, hearing everyone saying how being royalty was a big deal and a challenge. She remembered a lot of the princess stories Nala Se used to tell her sometimes often featured princesses being trapped in towers, poisoned into a deep sleep, kidnapped or enslaved, and then being rescued by a handsome prince with whom the princesses live happily ever after. None of them mentioned being swarmed by reporters, all eyes being on her, or that she'd be expected to know a lot of manners, poise, and graceful behavior.
Padme patted Omega on her shoulder and said, "Don't worry, Omega. Everything is going to be fine. You're part of this family now. Royal or not, you are loved here and always will be."
But Omega felt some worries hit her as she stood in the dressing room and looked at some of the gowns in her size. She didn't know why, but everyone asked her to try on different ones and pick which colors and styles she liked best quickly.
Omega looked at herself in the mirror as she tried on a yellow gown. She felt a bit unsure. And then she saw a tiara sitting on one of the vanities and tried it on with the dress. It looked pretty, but Omega felt very unsure if she was ready to fulfill this role of a princess.
Omega:
Everything seems crazy big
And I'm feeling unsteady
Mom says I'll be just fine
But I don't think I'm ready
Omega picked up her plush pony Little Star and played with her like the toy was dancing
New school, new friends, new family
And parties where they want me to dance
I'm just a little girl from an ocean world
In this world I don't stand a chance
Omega looked in the mirror and sighed.
I'm not ready to be a princess
I don't have what it takes
Omega tripped on the long gown she wore and adjusted herself and looked at the amethyst tiara she wore, which wasn't her style. And she worried about other parts of being a princess too.
I'm too short for gowns
I look bad in crowns
And I'm gonna make a bajillion mistakes
I'm too average to be a princess
I respectfully refuse
Omega pushed a book away and some more jewelry she found.
I don't know the rules
I don't want the jewels
And she lifted her skirt up a little bit and kicked off the uncomfortable high heels she'd been trying on.
And these feet were made for comfortable shoes
Omega then moved on to look around and found a bunch of expensive-looking trinkets she couldn't bring herself to touch and saw a bunch of fancy toys and pillows that must've been bigger than her!
Shelves bursting with trinkets
That I'm afraid to touch
Fancy toys and ginormous pillows
It's all much too much
Omega got into her regular clothes and exited the room. By now, everyone was in their rooms, and Omega was alone as she ran through the halls, feeling so much fear inside her as she thought of how much she was going to mess up as a princess. She loved her family, but felt sure she'd fail as a princess.
Too much
I'm not ready to be a princess
Omega looked at herself in the mirror and started to think she didn't want to have a ball at all, and not because she didn't want to share it with her brother.
One look and that seems clear
Cancel my debut
Keep your royal crew
And then she found herself lost in the palace, unsure where her room was now. Despite living in the huge facility on Kamino her whole life, getting used to such a huge space was difficult for her.
And if I ever find my room again
I'm outta here
Omega sat down and sighed.
Omega, not a noble name
She tried a royal wave, but didn't believe it was good enough.
Omega, even my wave is lame
I'm not ready
To be a princess
Omega covered her face with her hands and cried for a little bit. So much pressure she felt; all the expectations people would have for her now that she was a princess, she didn't know if she could handle it, or if she would be able to take the humiliation she would probably face if she messed up.
However, someone arrived as they had left their room to get a drink of water.
"Omega?" said Padme.
"Oh, Mom." Omega ran into her mother's arms.
Padme held Omega close and comforted her.
Omega drank some warm cocoa Padme made for her as her mother used to whenever she was in distress as a child.
"What's the matter, Omega?" Padme asked.
"I don't wanna be a princess anymore." Omega said. "I can't do it."
"Oh, Omega. Don't say that." Padme said. "You've only just begun."
"But I'm no good at all that stuff. I don't know which fork to use, I can barely dance, and I hate wearing heeled shoes. I did fine at the anniversary ball, but at the next one, I'll trip and everyone will laugh at me."
"Omega. You're more than just a royal princess." Padme said.
She got Omega to look at her and said, "You're our little princess because you are part of this family. And no one laughs at a princess, especially because if they mess with you, they're messing with me and your father. And you can be sure Ani wouldn't let them hear the end of it."
Omega chuckled a bit. She hadn't known Anakin for very long, but she knew he was as charming as he was fierce when he was angry. He'd give the ones who messed with his kids a literal thorn in their side. Actually, a bunch to teach them a lesson.
Padme assured Omega that no one expected her to be a perfect princess, and no one expected her to get the hang of it right away.
"Believe it or not, we're all still learning ourselves." Padme said. "It's been months since your grandfather's coronation, and he's still getting used to being Solaris' ruler and being the leader that his children will have learned from when the time comes for one of them to be the new ruler. Even I'm still learning to be a princess."
"But you were Queen of Naboo."
"When I was not much older than you, yes. But I had advisors and often felt unsure of myself."
Padme told Omega all about how when she was Queen and how she faced many challenges, including when she first met Anakin and his mother before Anakin knew Qui-Gon was his father.
"That adventure turned out to be the most wonderful of my life. How little did I know eventually I would marry that adorable little boy and have his babies."
"But I haven't even met a boy who like me that way."
"That's not the point. Being a princess is a lot harder than most people care to believe. Some think we're spoiled girls who take whatever we want, some think we have a luxurious life free of responsibilities of our own, but they're wrong. I still have my responsibilities as a wife, mother, and senator. Your father and uncle still have their responsibilities as fathers, husbands, and Jedi. And you children have your responsibilities to learn things and grow up to be the best versions of yourselves."
Omega thought about what her adoptive mother was saying and started to wonder if she might actually be able to handle being a princess. But, she was going to need a little help figuring out more of this princess stuff.
So, Omega went to the palace library and found some books about princesses and etiquette. She also consulted the holo-net on different sites on how to be a princess. And she spent all night trying to figure out how to be a perfect princess.
She also found old videos of various princesses when they gave speeches and noticed how a lot of them were very good at talking, so she started practicing different tongue twisters she found, but found it very difficult to master.
She went to the wardrobe and found some ballet slippers that fit her and tried to learn ballet on her own to make herself more graceful, but she fell down.
She tried to remember which utensil was for what, but kept getting the salad knife and butter knife mixed up, and the salad and dinner fork too. And it felt weird to have her pinky raised while drinking tea.
Omega spat the tea right back into the cup once she took a sip of it.
"Yuck! How can anyone drink that stuff?!" Omega grimaced in disgust.
And she even tried to sing in a high voice like the princesses in some of the movies she found, but only succeeded in hurting her throat.
"How do princesses do that?" Omega coughed.
Omega even tried brushing her hair and looking at herself in the mirror. But her hair barely even reached to her neck and she felt a bit insecure. Her sister, her cousin Lamenta, her mom, and Caroline all had long hair, and so did nearly all the princesses in her story. Then she wondered... Carmine used a spell to change his hairstyle multiple times on stage whenever he performed as Count Crescendo. Maybe the same spell could make her hair longer.
The only problem was she didn't know how to cast it. She figured maybe her uncle had it written down somewhere. So, she quietly snuck into his and Caroline's room while they were still sleeping, using a little light she conjured in her hand to look.
But she found nothing except that even though Carmine had Caroline to sleep beside him every night, he still slept with his childhood stuffed bunny by the bed. And when she heard Carmine yawn as he was getting ready to wake up to the sun rising, Omega took that as her cue to flee before she would get in trouble for invading her uncle and aunt's room. But, she did end up knocking something down on the way and waking them up. Still, she managed to flee back to her room, only to find Lamenta sitting on her bed.
"Something going on?"
"Ahh!" Omega yelped. "When did you get up?"
"Just after you entered my parents' room." Lamenta answered. "I see dreams, remember? I sensed you were awake too. And given the time you woke up and how long you've been awake while everyone else was asleep, I had the idea something was bothering you. It wouldn't happen to be about your worries about being a princess, would it?"
"How did you know?"
"Gabby's not the only princess full of surprises around here. Dreams go deep into one's subconscious. In other words, they tell how a person is really feeling in a crazy, elaborate way. And spontaneous musical numbers never go completely unheard. Especially when you've spent as much time around Daddy as I have."
"Well, I'm really no good at all this. I'm no good at singing or dancing like a princess, or etiquette stuff."
"And that's why I'm gonna help you. By the time we're through, you'll really feel what it means to be a princess."
