"Mom" Clary called, "Can I have the Fairchild family ring?"
"Why." Jocelyn asks eying her daughter.
"This box seems to have a hidden compartment that requires the crest to open!" Clary said frustratingly.
When the compartment opened Clary found a second set of the same karambits with one exception, these didn't have an edge to them.
There was also another note.
See you soon
Michael
Clary blinks, turning the note over in her hands as her mother said, "Stay close to home, Tessa's going to stop by, she has something for both of us."
"Clary, if you're serious about becoming a Shadowhunter, it's going to mean walking away from everyone and everything you know."
"It means Simon, can never be a part of your life again…"
Clary swallowed heard and shed a tear as she said, "I understand, but for the first time I feel… whole."
30 minutes later Jocelyn looks out into the back yard of the house she and Clary share with Luke to see her daughter learning how to work with her new weapons, and she picks up the note reading.
See you soon
Michael
Gazing at the live blade versions of the karambits Jocelyn realizes, those are angelic weapons. Her mind drifted back to the moment Clary first handled them thinking to herself, only angels should be able to touch them.
15 minutes later Clary came back inside with her teacher close behind her
"I believe introductions are in order." The Man said, "My name is Michael…"
The Arch Angel! Jocelyn thought.
With a gentle smile the man said, "The very same…"
Using a voice only Jocelyn, can hear Michael, explained, "She is 99 percent, in time she could tap into the angelic collective… consciously."
Jocelyn's eyes snapped to Michael and the look on her face asked, Are you saying she can talk to angels.
Michael just knotted
Beginning of the school year at St. Francis Of Xavier School in PARK SLOPE, NY'
Simon Lewis walks into the school asking, "Is Clary here."
One of his friends someone who had known the 2 of them for years looked at Simon asking, "Who… is this a new girlfriend I don't know about."
Running to the office Simon asks the principle, "Is Clary Fray enrolled this year?"
"Mr. Lewis." The man said, "I pride myself on knowing the names of all the students under my care, there is not any student named Clary Fray nor has there ever been."
What's Going on… Simon thought, I just talked to her last night…
Back at the house, Tessa and Jem Carstairs walk in.
"Clary, Jocelyn" Tessa called, "I come bearing gifts…"
"I think it's about time Clary had her own Stele." Tessa said looking at Jocelyn she said, "And you need to replace yours"
"Jem" Clary asked, "Would you give me The Voyance rune."
"Mom… I have another rune I want you to mark me with."
Jem handed Clary a parcel giving her a wink, he said, "Why don't you have your mom show you how to put it on."
Later that night at the dinner table Clary got really quiet and asked, "Luke Can you still bear marks?"
"Clary! Luke's gruff voice asks.
Clary starts drawing out the Familias rune on a piece of scrap paper saying, "I thought the three of us could share it."
Clary's voice broke the silence saying, "Valentine Morgenstern may be my father, and there is nothing I can do about that…"
Walking into Luke's embrace Clary breathed in his scent and said, "Your, my dad, when I was little and afraid of the monster under the bed, you kept watch all night."
"When I needed help rescuing mom you didn't hesitate."
"Clary whispers something in Luke's ear."
Jocelyn's mind was awash with a multitude of emotions when her brow shot up to a speculative arch.
"Luke." Clary asks, "Can I set up a training area at the farm."
Suddenly there was a knock on the door, and Jocelyn ran to get it.
"Simon." Jocelyn called out, as she moved aside to let him in.
Looking at Clary, his body Simon's voice was tight as he asks, "Can someone explain why I'm the only one that remembers you."
Taking a breath Jocelyn gestured to the sofa saying, "Eventually even you will forget her… she made her choice Simon."
"Then she made the wrong choice." Simon said sharply only to have Jocelyn cut him off telling him, "From the moment I started training her a countdown began Simon."
I'm sorry Simon, Jocelyn remembered the conversation with Michael as she let her mind drift back his words coming to the forefront of her mind, I'm sorry Simon, the shadow world is the only safe place now.
Your daughter is as close to being an angel as you can get and still be human.
"To what?" He asked her.
It wasn't Jocelyn who answered him saying, "A countdown to the day I would have to choose what world I want to live in Simon"
I'm sorry Simon, Clary thought, I can't tell you the truth!
The look on his face pleaded with Clary to change her mind, as he said, "I don't want to forget."
"You will… nothing can change that now." Jocelyn explained looking at him, "She won't change her mind."
"You know that."
30 minutes later Clary sits across from her mother, "I know you have your reasons for not wanting to live their mom, but it's the one place he can't follow me."
"Why don't we start with going to the farm." Jocelyn said, "we may need to move into the institute, but let's take things as they come."
