Chapter 27.

A couple of days later, Magnolia was sat in the Great Hall eating her breakfast when she saw her brother jump up from the Gryffindor table and follow Cedric out of the Hall. Magnolia rolled her eyes and quickly followed her brother; he had not been making the best decisions recently and him wandering the school alone wasn't such a good idea with people still thinking he had put his name in the Goblet.

Magnolia jogged up to him, bumping shoulders as she slowed down to a walk in step with her twin. Harry was watching Cedric intently, following him up the staircases.

"What are you doing, Harry?" She whispered.

"I'm telling him about the first task."

"Why the hell would you want to do that!?"

Harry shrugged, "I know, Maxime and Karkaroff both saw the dragons, so I bet Fleur and Krum know about them too. It's only fair that Cedric knows."

"Fair!? Harry, he's older than you with more experience! You don't even know what spell to use, how is it fair to you, if Cedric knows as well?"

Harry didn't respond to his sister, instead he caught Cedric's attention and jogged towards him, before whispering about the first task to his competitor. Magnolia stood beside Harry, not at all happy that he was giving Cedric the edge against him.

As much as she liked Cedric, he was her brother's competition, and her brother needed all the luck and help that he could get. Magnolia was brought out of her inner judgement by the sound of a familiar clunking noise coming down the hallway.

"Come with me, Potter's. Diggory, off you go." Moody growled as he approached the three students.

"Erm, Professor, I should get to class." Magnolia rushed, trying to get away from her Defence teacher.

"Never mind that. In my office, please."

Magnolia grimaced as Moody left no room to argue, and hesitantly followed her brother into Moody's office. As he shut his office door, Magnolia emptied her mind, and pulled up the landscape she had been working on with Malfoy to keep unwanted visitors from accessing her thoughts and memories. She could only hope that it would work.

Magnolia glanced around the room as Moody and Harry spoke about the first task, she wasn't surprised at all that he knew about the dragons. The room couldn't have been more different to when Lupin had been the occupier.

Magnolia tuned back into the conversation when Harry sat looking at Moody in confusion. Magnolia rolled her eyes at her brother; he could be dense sometimes.

"What are you especially good at, Harry?" Magnolia grumbled, "What are you especially good at, that could get you past a dragon?"

Magnolia could see her brother thinking carefully at her words, before his eyes lit up.

"Flying! That's brilliant!" Harry jumped up from his seat, "Thank you, Professor. I need to go and look into what I can do!"

Magnolia smiled as her brother ran from the room and picked her own bag up to follow him. Before she could move even a couple of steps, Moody grabbed her arm and pulled her to a stop. Magnolia froze, her heart pounded from her Professor's grip.

"I wanted to talk to you as well, Miss Potter."

Moody motioned for Magnolia to sit down. She tentatively let her bag slip off her should and onto the floor, sitting on the very edge of the seat.

"I've been worried about you, Miss Potter." Moody began, "You've seemed very tired recently."

"I'm fine."

"Are you really? I've overheard from your friends that you have been having multiple nightmares."

Magnolia focused on her mind landscape, a dense forest with small ponds scattered within the trees, when Moody stared at her intently with both his eyes.

"I'm really fine."

"You know, as your Professor, you're wellbeing is important to me. What have you been dreaming about?"

Magnolia fought against the unwanted pressure in her mind, she didn't want to see the green lights flash through her mind or hear the terrorised screams that echoed around her dreams. She concentrated on the trees of the forest, the water in the ponds glistening from the sun peeking through the canopy above.

"I suppose it's just my mind working through my worry's about Harry and the Tournament." Magnolia replied, pleased that she was so far keeping her mind forest in place, "If I have any issues, I assure you, I'll go to my Head of House."

"Hm," Moody grunted, "Severus. And, how does he treat you?"

Magnolia frowned, why was he asking her about Professor Snape? He had always been as fair to her as the other Slytherin students, although he could be colder towards her. She assumed it was because of her brother, it was no secret that Harry was Professor Snape's least favourite student.

Professor Snape's behaviour after the snake incident in Second Year drifted into Magnolia's mind though, he had kept her after Potions class to see how she was and had seemed genuinely concerned at her fear of the snake. He had also visited her in the Hospital Wing after she had been scratched by Professor Lupin, it had been brief, but he had assured her that if she had any adverse reactions, she could go to him for help.

Sometimes, though, Magnolia couldn't read his expressions at all. Sometimes, he looked at her with so much guilt, but sometimes she would say something, and he looked at her like he loathed her. Usually, that would be when he caught her pranking with the twins.

Magnolia frowned, and brought her forest mindscape again, mentally chastising herself for slipping up. It was too easy to think about something else and tiring to keep the landscape firmly in her mind especially when the pressure tried to creep around it.

"Fine, Professor Snape treats me fine. I'm a Slytherin, remember."

"Hm. You are indeed-"

A knock on the door interrupted Moody, and the pair looked towards it. The door creaked open, and Malfoy appeared in the office. He looked between the two, his face twisting into a grimace.

"Professor, I've been sent for Potter. We have Transfiguration." Malfoy drawled.

Magnolia grabbed her bag from the floor and gratefully moved towards Malfoy as Moody excused her. She followed Malfoy out of the office and down a few corridors in silence before she reached for his arm.

Malfoy turned towards her sharply as she grasped his hand and stumbled. He caught her easily, looking her over with a worried expression.

"What's wrong? You're pale." Malfoy's eyes travelled around Magnolia's face, "What did he do to you?"

"He tried… He tried to look into my mind."

Magnolia felt exhausted, she was sure that Malfoy holding her was the only thing keeping her standing.

"Tried?"

Magnolia smiled at Malfoy, "I tried to keep my landscape up at all times. It was hard, and I think I slipped up when he asked me about Snape, but I did it for a while."

Malfoy pulled her closer, resting his chin on her head as he sighed, "I knew I should've found you sooner."

Magnolia wrapped her arms around his waist automatically and breathed him in. She felt safer now. She had felt safer from the moment he walked into Moody's office, she realised. Now, she just wanted to nap.

Malfoy pulled back slightly, moving one of his hands from around her to hold her cheek. He stroked his thumb across her cheek.

"Let's get you back to your Dorm, you should lie down. Occlumency is exhausting when you're still learning."

When the First Task came around, Magnolia was stood with the Gryffindors having bickered with her Slytherin friends whilst getting ready. Malfoy had come into the Common Room proudly wearing the 'Potter Stinks' badge and handing them to every Slytherin he could reach. It hadn't been long before Magnolia had been surrounded by the infuriating badges.

She was also getting frustrated at the different sides she saw of Malfoy. That morning he had been the arrogant pompous jerk, but the day before when they had been alone, he had been sweet and kind to her. Magnolia glanced over to the boy in question, to see him and Pansy huddled together, Pansy wrapped around him.

Magnolia looked back into the pit that the stands surrounded with a knot in her stomach. She couldn't decide if that was because of Malfoy or looking at the massive arena where she knew a dragon would soon be waiting for her brother.

Behind her, she felt George put his hands on her shoulders and lean down. Fred, Hermione, Ron and Ginny were stood with them. Magnolia had glared at Ron when he joined the girls with his brothers, but the guilty look on his face was enough to make Magnolia realise he regretted the way he had been treating her brother.

"He'll be ok, don't worry."

Magnolia looked at George, he was wearing a reassuring smile, and she tried to return it but the knot in her stomach tightened. She turned back to the arena, watching as a dragon was taken to a nest near the centre by a number of wizards.

The crowd grew louder, cheering suddenly, and Magnolia turned to see Cedric making his way out into the arena. She watched as Cedric pointed his wand at a rock, transfiguring it into a dog that ran towards the dragon until it began to follow the dog.

Cedric ran towards the nest whilst the dragon was distracted, grabbing a golden egg that lay with the others. Magnolia thought for a moment that he might have done it, but the dragon quickly span away from the playful dog and bounded towards Cedric. Magnolia cried out and jumped as the dragon shot fire towards Cedric, catching him before he managed to get away.

Magnolia's heart pounded as the wizards fought the dragon out of the arena, to replace it with another. Fleur soon came into the arena, looking around with fear. She pointed her wand directly at the dragon, waving it around in a way that Magnolia had never seen.

The dragon seemed to sway before it fell to the floor, looking like it was asleep. Fleur ran towards the nest, grabbing the golden egg but dropped it quickly when a shot of fire set her skirt on alight, from the dragon snoring. Fleur quickly cast a spell that shot water out of her wand, distinguishing the flames.

Magnolia felt like she could be sick. Only Harry and Krum were left to face their dragon's now. Harry could be next. The crowd cheered as the next Champion walked into the arena. Magnolia's shoulders slumped as she realised it was Krum and not her brother.

Krum sent a series of spells towards the dragon, eventually hitting it in the eye with one of them. The wounded dragon reared back, thrashing its head around and crashing through its nest. Krum rushed towards the golden egg whilst the dragon was distracted with its injury and easily picked it out of the nest.

Magnolia was hoping Krum would take longer with his turn. Harry would be coming out into the arena any moment now. She felt George's arms wrap around her, pulling her closer to him so her back was pressed against his chest.

"He's going to be ok." He whispered in her ear.

Magnolia clenched her hands into fists, she could barely breathe, she wanted this to be over. Moments later, Harry stumbled into the arena. Magnolia looked between her twin and the dragon curled around its nest. Magnolia dug her nails into her hands as her brother stood still and raised his wand.

Magnolia sighed in relief when she saw Harry's Firebolt flying towards him. He jumped on it and Magnolia yelped with pride. She moved closer to the stands side as Harry flew around the arena, followed closely by the massive dragon, and screamed when it blew fire at Harry. She relaxed when he dodged it but clenched her fists again when its tail sliced across his shoulder.

"Move, Harry! Move!"

He shot off again, flying around the dragon until he could coax it away from its eggs. Harry dipped suddenly out of the air, grabbing the golden egg and soaring back away from the dragon. Magnolia jumped up and down as her brother flew to the ground and wizards came out to restrain the dragon.

Hermione grabbed Magnolia's hand and ran down to the tent the Champions went into after they had faced the dragon. Ron was quick to follow them, Magnolia smiled.

"Harry!"

Magnolia threw herself at her brother as soon as she could get close, he pulled her tight, wincing at his shoulder. Magnolia looked at him with concern, but he smiled at her and told her that Madam Pomfrey had already given him something for the shoulder.

"Harry, you were brilliant!" Hermione gushed, "You were amazing! You really were!"

"Harry," Ron began, slowly, "whoever put your name in the Goblet- I- I reckon they're trying to do you in."

"Caught on, have you?"

Magnolia nudged Harry, frowning at him until he and Ron made up. Magnolia looked at Hermione in surprise when she burst into tears. Harry looked between his sister and Hermione, bewildered and hoping Magnolia would say something.

"Erm, Hermione. Its all good. They've made up."

"They're just so stupid!" She cried, pulling the three students into a hug.

"We should go, they'll be putting up the scores." Ron practically begged.

Hermione let them go, and the four of them walked out of the tent, Ron telling Harry what had happened with the other Champions. They four students joined Fred and George, who were stood with their brother Charlie. Magnolia smiled at him, Charlie smiled back and wiggled his eyes when George tucked her under his arm.

Magnolia looked down, guilt filling her as George grinned back at his brother. She looked back up at the judges as they gave their scores for Harry's turn against the dragon. Madame Maxime gave him an 8, Mr Crouch and Professor Dumbledore gave him a 9, then Ludo gave him a 10.

"Ten?" Harry mumbled in disbelief.

Karkaroff then gave Harry a 4, causing Magnolia and Ron to scream in anger. Whilst George and Fred spoke between themselves about in the injustice of the score.

"You're tied in first place, Harry! You and Krum!" Charlie grinned, patting his back before rushing off to write to Mrs Weasley.

Magnolia released herself from George's hold and hugged her brother, jumping up and down with him as the Hogwarts students cheered for his scores. Not just Gryffindors, but all the Houses; Magnolia was sure she could see a few of her own friends cheering him on too.

The Champions were called back to the tent, Harry took Magnolia and Ron with him until they reached the tent. Magnolia pulled him in for another hug, pride and pure joy filling her chest. Her brother was alive, he was barely injured, Ron had put his jealous grudge aside, and the rest of their school had finally accepted him as a Champion as well.

Things were looking up for her brother, and so Magnolia felt lighter than she had for a long time.
