Chapter 60
So, if you haven't heard already, SEAL Team has been green lit for a movie on top of a season 6! Dave seems super excited and I'm very curious to where this will all go. Not much detail has been disclosed other than it will not be a bridge from season 5 to season 6. We don't even have a cast listing as I write this. The show must be doing really well on paramount plus that they're "expanding" this universe. So excited for all the avenues this could open. Now please enjoy a new chapter of my story. Thank you for all the continued support!
"I lo-," a smiling Mandy began saying as a smiling Jason stared back.
The smile vanished as a loud explosion went off cutting Mandy off. At first, Jason thought their connection got cut off. He knew how service being abroad could be sometimes. Especially when it came to the places they went to in their line of work. Jason's phone showed a black screen saying the call was lost. However, Jason also knew what an explosion sounded like too.
"Mandy?" Jason panicked as he tried re-dialing. "Come on, come on," Jason muttered as the phone kept telling him he couldn't get through to Mandy. "Damn it," Jason exclaimed as he walked back into the house and opened the door roughly. "Son a bitch."
"Dad?" Emma and Jason called out from the couch. Both were looking at him with worried looks.
Jason paused and looked at his kids, he could feel his heart breaking all over again. They'd already lost Alana and if anything happened to Mandy, he wasn't sure if any of them would survive this time.
"I need to head to base. I'll be back. You guys stay here okay," Jason said as he grabbed his keys.
"Dad, what's going on?" Emma asked.
"I don't know yet," Jason sighed as he walked over.
"Is it Mandy?" Emma asked with a little tremor.
"Something happened when we were talking. I'm going to base to see what's going on," Jason said as he hugged both kids.
"Is Mandy alright?" Mikey asked.
"I don't know," Jason said squeezing them before letting go. "I promise I'm going to do whatever it takes to bring her home though," he said looking at them.
"What's going on?" Susan asked as she walked into the living room.
"I don't know yet. I'm headed to base. Something happened while I was talking to Mandy," Jason said walking over to her and hugging her.
"Go, go. I'll take care of them," Susan said as Jason let go and left.
Blackness. An endless blackhole of nothing. No sound, no light.
"I love you," a familiar man's voice said.
"I lo-," a woman said.
Mandy lay on the ground knocked out in a world of blackness. Where was she? Whose voices were those? Was it her? Slowly, a face appeared in front of her. Blurry and repeating "I love you." Wait, were they talking to her?
"I-," Mandy spoke realizing she was about to say it back.
"I love you," a smiling face finally became clear.
"Jason?" Mandy asked confused.
"I love you," Jason kept repeating. "You gotta fight, Mandy," he suddenly said. "Never out of the fight."
Before Mandy could respond, she blinked back into reality. It was bright and everything sounded muddled. She blinked trying to gain focus and found herself face down on the ground. As her focus came into view she coughed, trying to get her breath back. She lifted her head and tried to get her bearings as she assessed the situation. People were everywhere, some wounded and others trying to help.
Mandy coughed again as she sat there and assessed her injuries. She seemed fine for the most part. Her memory of being on a video call with Jason started coming back to her and she looked around her for her phone. She found the phone. It had cracks across a black screen. She tried to see if it'd turn on, but it wouldn't. Suddenly all the sound around her came back to her. She grabbed at her head as she got up and suddenly remembered the café. She turned towards it and saw that it looked like the explosion must have come from there.
"Oh my god," Mandy said walking as fast as she could to the café.
"Ray!" Mandy called out as she walked in.
People were inside hurt and all trying to get their bearings as well. Mandy only had Ray on her mind though. She was terrified of what she would find. She didn't know if she could face everyone back home if Ray was dead. The air was smokey as Mandy searched around causing her to go into a coughing fit again.
"Ray!" Mandy yelled again. "Come on Ray, don't do this to me," she muttered as she looked under debris for him.
After a few more minutes, Mandy finally spotted him unconscious on the ground. She ran over and kneeled down looking for a pulse. She let out a breath of relief feeling one and started assessing him.
"Ray," Mandy said shaking him. "Come one, you got to get up."
Ray started to stir and started coughing as well. Mandy helped him sit up and let him get his bearings.
"What the hell happened?" Ray asked looking around.
"I don't know. Some sort of explosion," Mandy said. Suddenly she could hear voices, "Shit, we need to get out of here."
"What's going on?" Ray asked as Mandy helped him up.
"I don't know but we probably spooked the ambassadors and I hear voices asking around for us," Mandy said as she put Ray's arm on her shoulder. "Can you walk?"
"I don't think my leg is broken but something definitely hurts. Let's go," Ray said as they started heading for what was the back of the café.
Before they could exit, the men Mandy heard came in and saw them. They pulled out their guns and Mandy shoved both of them down. She reached to her back side where her gun still was thankfully. Ray had one as well.
"We gotta make every shot count," Mandy said as they cocked their guns and Ray nodded.
Both went just above the wall cover they had and started firing off shots. Both were hitting their targets. There were five guys there now but probably more outside.
"We gotta move," Ray said getting up with Mandy's help.
They managed to get outside just before the next batch, and they looked around at where to go next. They started going down the street. The whole area was a chaotic mess of people from the after math of the explosion.
"We need to get a vehicle. We don't have much time before they find us. No idea who here will give us up either," Mandy assessed. "Shit," Mandy said looking back and shoving them into a nearby shop as she saw the enemy come out the back of the café looking for them.
"What if we circle back to the front," Ray suggested.
"And take one of their vehicles since they'll be searching up and down this side for us," Mandy concluded. "Good idea, let's go out the front here then."
Luckily, the shop they were in was deserted and they were able to move through easily. Once they got to the front entrance, they took a look back towards the café to see what they'd be dealing with.
"Looks like we have about half a dozen tangos," Ray observed. "We take that front car closet to us."
"Yeah," Mandy said as she looked around the shop, they were in. "But we can't just walk out there," Mandy added as she walked over to a clothes rack. "We're gonna need a wardrobe change. The more we blend, the better chance we have of not being noticed. We stick out like a sour thumb right now."
Mandy changed her clothing and put a shall over her head and covered her face. Ray too changed into some men's clothing and put on some sunglasses Mandy had found. They went back to the entrance to look out towards the café.
"Looks like everyone is out back," Ray observed. "Now is our chance."
"Let's go," Mandy nodded as they headed out towards the closet car.
They stopped near a stall by the car and looked around discreetly to make sure they weren't being watched too closely. Mandy opened the passenger door and helped Ray in. Ray grimaced in pain as his leg flared in pain. Mandy quickly ran around to the driver's side and hot-wired the car. It started and she just started pulling away as a couple of the enemies were coming back. Mandy looked in the mirror to see them pull out their guns.
"Get down!" Mandy yelled as they both ducked for cover.
Mandy continued driving through the chaos and hoped they wouldn't be followed, and that the enemy didn't think it was them.
"You think they know it's us?" Ray asked looking back. "They're not following us, yet it seems."
"Hopefully, they think we're just some desperate locals stealing their car in the chaos," Mandy said looking back. "I think I know somewhere we can go. I have an asset in the area."
"Can we trust them?" Ray asked.
"We can't head back to the base. We'd have to go through a check point and if this is all linked to the ambassador, who knows who we'll be able to trust there," Mandy concluded. "Our odds are better with my asset where we can lay low for a little bit and figure out how to get us help."
"You seem pretty calm and put together for being in this situation," Ray raised an eyebrow.
"Not my first rodeo," Mandy smiled sadly. "Welcome to the life of a spook."
After a few moments of silence Ray spoke, "You know Jason is never going to let you out of his sight after this right?"
"Probably," Mandy managed to smile. "Naima and Jameelah will probably be the same with you," Mandy replied as they continued to drive.
Jason was on a mission as he marched down the hallways of base looking for Lisa and Blackburn. He hadn't seen them anywhere on base and was headed for the ops center. His heart was still racing, and he was still trying Mandy's phone in hope she'd pick up.
As Jason approached the door to the ops center, someone came out and Jason nodded to them as he slipped in. He looked around and could feel the buzz in the air. Operations were running in full force. Jason then spotted Lisa, Blackburn, and Lindell all talking. He could tell by Blackburn and Lisa's worried faces; they were probably just being filled in.
"Jason?" Lisa asked being the first to see him.
"Master Chief Hayes, what are you doing here?" Lindell asked. "You need to leave right now."
"This is about the blast in Tunisia, right?" Jason ignored him.
"How do you-," Blackburn began to ask.
"This doesn't concern you right now," Lindell ordered.
"I was on a call with Mandy when it happened," Jason said holding his phone. "Do we know if…?" he trailed off not sure if he wanted to know the answer.
"As I said before, this doesn't concern you at the moment. I know you have a personal investment in this, however-," Lindell said before being cut off.
"What do we know?" Jack asked authoritatively, appearing out of thin air with Troy at his side.
"Director Thomson, we don't know much other than an explosion went off at a local café," Lindell filled in. "Now Master Chief Hayes-," Lindell continued.
"Stays here and will get his team ready to deploy out," Jack finished. "I'll also be on that plane with them. Orders should be coming down to you any minute. We'll be bringing home your SEAL and my agent."
"Can I borrow your phone?" Troy asked Jason. "Was it a video call?"
"Yeah," Jason said giving the phone to him.
"Great, I'm just going to download the archive, so we have a copy to review," Troy said setting up his laptop.
"Doesn't a director have something better to do than fly across the world for an agent missing," Lindell wondered.
"That agent," Jack said emphasizing the word agent. "Also happens to be my daughter. So, if you or anyone gets in my way of bringing her home, I'll do whatever I need to do to get you out of my way. I want Bravo team on this one. I believe they'll be able to hold it together to bring their team member home."
"Members. Team members. Mandy's a part of this team," Jason spoke up. "We're not coming home without either of them."
"Sounds like a plan. Get your team ready. We'll brief on the plane as we're still getting intel. We haven't found either of them at the scene and we've got alerts at the hospitals. I'm also organizing for some extra manpower to help us out," Jack said.
"Yes, Sir," Jason nodded before leaving the room and heading for the cages to get the team together. He wasn't lying when he said they wouldn't leave until Mandy and Ray were both brought home.
